Perhaps we went on an off night. Perhaps the friends we went with have broken tastebuds and don't know what "great" means in terms of food or service. This place has great ambience and is in a beautiful spot next to the river- BUT- the outdoor patio seriously needs fans. Service was super slow and when our food finally got to us - well - there was a few items that we had to send back (the oysters were well past "questionable") and a few others that made us question what we were getting ourselves into. The one bite of oysters that my husband had was enough to cause us to race home (if you know what I mean) and I'm not sure the pesto mayo was kept at proper temps. I might come back- just not in the heat of summer. read more

I was rather disappointed in my take and bake pizza yesterday. The ingredients were all clumped together in the middle, and the cilantro (#7 BBQ chicken) was almost all rotten. I tried as best as I could to pick most of it out. But to say I was frustrated would be an understatement. Yes, it was a Monday afternoon, and maybe not a very busy afternoon, but it was completely unacceptable. On top of that, the lunch I ordered was not great (very undercooked grilled cheese) and an additional charge for sauce because the waitress didn't remember my order correctly. There were 4 of us and a couple of our checks were wrong. We all stopped on the way up to the mountains a few days prior and got lackluster service because apparently they only have one cook and one server/bartender before 11am. Not sure what they would do for a busy breakfast lunch. Usually really like this place. Now, I'm not sure I'd recommend it. Bathrooms and tables are clean. Went here for lunch while touring the area. Had a Modelo, champagne and bloody Mary at happy hour prices all day for $3 each. Enjoyed the cheeseburger with fries as well as an individual pizza and also a Philly cheese dip with onion rings. Super busy but service was good. Sat outside by the river. So pretty and comfortable. Dear Locking Horns Riverside, Me and my Honey have been to your establishment about a year ago for the same menu item, prime rib dinner. About a year ago we sat on the patio and ordered dinner. We absolutely loved our meal, except that it was cold. Figured it was due to eating outside. Fast forward to a few weekends ago...extremely disappointed in the service. We werent acknowledged to be seated for 15 minutes and no one else was waiting. We then waited for waitress for a very long time just to place our drink order, which were sodas. After our drinks were almost gone, she finally came back to our table for our orders. Mind you, it was only about 5:00 pm and not busy at that time for a Saturday. When our food arrived, we weren't disappointed! Excellent piece of prime rib, medium rare and seared, just as we ordered. The food was very good. It was the darn service that sucked. We ordered a meal to go...prime rib was gone by the time we got to ask about putting in another order. Ordered fish for person at home and she stated it was "just ok". I'm so sad that we were disappointed at all...the meat however, saved the evening. We will go back again...perhaps get a table at 3:30 to order prime rib for 4:00 next time and Immediatly put in a to go order. My first time up to Horseshoe Bend. Met up with a friend for a meal. Menu is great, but we opted for breakfast. I got the western skillet, my friend chose the Horseshoe. Basic breakfast, but done well. Great attention from our server, who admitted she made a mistake and threw away our order ticket, so the kitchen never got it! I absolutely appreciated Sunshine's honesty and she took our order again. We were in no hurry. The restaurant looks clean, loved the rustic and vintage decor. Seasons are changing here, but this place has so much to offer in outside activities. Patio on the river, games, music...I will definitely be back! read more

We moved to the Treasure Valley about 4 months ago. We love the drive up to Banks and have wanted to try the Riverside Restaurant for a while now. Located in Horseshoe Bend, it is situated right along the Payette River. It has a small town, family friendly atmosphere. Inside, it has dark wood, a mixture of tables and booths. There is a bar to the right. If this was the only place to sit, this place would not be near as desirable to frequent, though from what I read, they have Trivia night and other funs activities. The draw is the outdoor seating, with a nice view of the river. Picnic tables and some counter seating, and a TV if you want to catch a game. On this crisp, October day at 4:00 in the afternoon, there was one couple inside and two tables of adults and kids outside. As we sat down, one of the families left. We had a table right at the rail next to the river. Our server did a great job. She was friendly and provided excellent service. I had the pesto grilled chicken sandwhich with tots, and my wife had the French dip with onion rings. The food wasn't great but we still enjoyed our choices. The argula and pesto aioli on my chicken sandwich was good. I think my wife is more of a foodie than me and was less enthusiastic. My strawberry lemonade was not great. Still, it was a beautiful day, with good food, and we were well taken care of. We will come back. We think it would be a great place to bring out of town guests. read more

Let me start out by saying I love the renovations they've done to the place since I was here years ago! Really fun environment to stop along the river inside and out. The onion rings were wonderful and overall food tasty. A few things to be aware of- nowhere on the menu did we see certain sides were extra, but when your meal says one side, the sides are limited. Also our server was nice, but she had a "Let's Go Brandon " t-shirt on. I didn't even know what that meant- my husband had to explain. I'm all for free speech but I believe in having respect for our President even if you don't like him. Dogs are welcome outside and it's peaceful. read more

Wish I was able to sit outside to look at the water up close, but it was hot! Staff: Decent. They acknowledge you as soon as you come through the door. Ambience: Great for families. Casual. Reminds me of Black Bear Diner. Food: Everything we had was satisfying, but the berry pie was the best dish of all. Forgot to take a picture of the Pesto Chicken Sandwich and the chocolate shake, but both were great as well. The shake was unique as you mix (I think) chocolate syrup with the milk instead of it already being done for you. It was aesthetically pleasing. Wifi: Reliable and free! Just ask for the password. Horrible! We've been to this restaurant several times in the past, and previously had good service and decent food. However, no such luck this time and unfortunately, will be the last time! We made a reservation 4 days in advance for a party of 12 to celebrate a 94th birthday. We arrived on time and was greeted and seated by the hostess (who was very nice). We were eventually acknowledged by our server who seemed to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder. She seemed to be put off having to wait on a large party. Once our order was finally placed, never saw her come back to the patio again. After 20 minutes, had go inside to get the glass of wine my wife had ordered. The food (when finally arrived) was subpar, cold and expensive for what it was. We ended up just choking our food down so we could leave. What was supposed to be a fun birthday party celebration turned out to be very disappointing! I'm sorry to say we will never return to Locking Horns Restaurant. I'm giving two stars only because the hostess was very apologetic for the terrible service, otherwise it warranted only one star! read more

Had an amazing after-Valentine's dinner at Locking Horns Riverside Restaurant! The waitress's recommendations were spot on. We loved the bourbon-glazed chicken--so much that we ate it before we could even snap a picture! The crab bisque soup made for a perfect meal. And the chocolate mousse with red velvet cake? Nice ambiance and rustic. I can imagine what the outside patio is like in the summer but in November, when we were there, no one was out there. The prime rib at medium rare was so deep red almost purple. I couldn't eat it but my partner did. The rolls had been microwaved to warm up because they were like rubber after 60 seconds and even then you could barely pull them apart. Warm them in the oven or serve fresh please!!! Ok, one of my favorite places to go enjoy the ambiance and the great food. We went there today, never had their prime rib so we ordered it. We also ordered salad and clam chowder. I spotted wilted lettuce and clam chowder was so watery. Then our prime rib came which was brown and very bad. I just wish I took a picture of it. I love prime rib but after a few bites I just couldn't stomach it anymore, so I asked for a box and when I put the meat in the box I saw hair in my plate. That did it l, I never make a big deal but I had to let them know at least about the hair. I just wish they make things better otherwise they WILL loose customers. It's a shame to own a great restaurant like this and let it go downhill. read more

I wanted to give a shout out to the new menu at this restaurant. I had the Asian bowl and it was the best thing I've had in a restaurant in a long time. The flavor profile was incredible. I got it with riced cauliflower, so it was very healthy. It's a 40 min. drive to get there from Star but I can't wait to go back to get it again and also try the Ahi bowl. My new favorite spot to get eaten alive by mosquitoes in the warmer months. Winter is fun too. LOVE this place and worth the roadie up Hwy 55. Great number of items on the menu so it's easy to find something you like. Not a full service bar though. UGH. The queso dip app is spectacular. Always get great service. Afternoon concerts on the river awesome. Trivia nights fun for all. Place just gets it right and I never feel like it breaks the bank. Maybe it's because they don't have a full bar though. It has been years since I've stopped in Horseshoe Bend at the Riverside now called Locking Horns, right on the river outdoor seating indoor seating, great service it's really good lunches and some unusual tasting condiments, their ranch dressing has a little kick in it, blue cheese. The fry sauce has got a secret to it too. Little bit different than most restaurants, so good, glad we stopped on the way up the hill heading historic Double D&J Hotsprings in Garden Valley where we're staying for a couple days that's gonna be amazing on the river! read more

Our family of four, including a four year old and three month old, we're staying at an Air BnB in HB. We arrived into town late the first night so we came here for dinner. The food was great - we ended up eating here two more times in just two days. We enjoyed the burgers and loaded fries the most. The location is picturesque - we even got to watch a beaver work the river bank. They have game night, live music, and fun outdoor games for the kids. The service is so friendly and fast. We even ended up getting some shirts to remember our visit. The owner Summer is very sweet and works just as hard as everyone else. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area. read more

I took my parents out for a drive and we found ourselves in Horseshoe Bend. I'd spotted this riverside restaurant with interest as we drove into the area. When it came time for lunch we headed straight to Locking Horns Riverside Restaurant. Our hopes for a delicious lunch in a pleasant setting were not disappointed. We sat riverside on the patio, enjoying the view and sunshine. The vibe is fun and family friendly. The staff was welcoming and attentive, keeping our thirsts quenched at all times. I had the salmon tacos. I do not usually order entrees with a sweetness to them. However, the salmon sounded good and I gave it a try. They were quite good with layers of flavor. With the addition of heat from some Chalula, they were just what I was looking for. My parents each savored a shrimp basket with onion rings and pork tacos with tots, and had happy bellies. Lastly, we ordered and shared the mudpie and I am so glad we did. Oh, it was a perfect cap to a satisfying lunch. As we walked out, I bookmarked the place in Yelp and remarked what a nice find this place was. My mom's quick response was that she wants to come back for her birthday. Well, I guess Locking Horns Riverside Restaurant is a winner and I'll be taking my parents on another long worthwhile drive. read more

We wanted to really like this place. 2 stars for the sweet waitress and the cute location! The rest of the review is based on the food and hopefully the owner takes notice. The food was mostly not edible. This was the "meat" inside my husbands sandwich. The sweet waitress noticed it and removed it from the bill. I ordered a veggie burger and in between the patty, the bun and the Ortega Chile there was a piece of ham. There is no ham on this veggie burger. The waitress said the cooks were "probably messing with" me. Not that funny when I've been a vegetarian most of my life. Good thing I checked inside the veggie burger before I took a bite.
