Love me some dive bars. Especially ones that don't have sticky floors or smell like old beer and stale cigarettes. Great beer selection, knowledgeable staff. Not very pricey, but they do carry some higher-end beers...so keep that in mind. Will definitely be back! read more

After patronizing just about every restaurant and bar surrounding the Star Bar, I finally ended up there for the first time after a Yelp event. As usual, I started with a Manhattan. It was made with CO spirits and reasonably priced. I also scored a bonus mispour beer -- gratis! Don't judge my double fist. The place was seemingly dead on a Thirsty Thursday night, that is until the karaoke rolled in. Within 15 minutes, this place became packed. I wish that we could have stayed for more than 2 songs. I will definitely go back to the Star Bar. read more

Star Bar is everything I personally love in a bar. Divey in appearance, but clean and comfortable. I've mostly been here in the early evenings, so I can't comment on peak hours, but the noise level is appropriate to actually have a conversation with the people you're with as well. They also have pretty good live music. As for the drinks, best selection in LoDo I think! The beer selection is top notch and the have a good variety to choose from. The bartenders make great cocktails as well. I'm a fan of their moscow mules, but they also make custom drinks as well. Star Bar is a must visit in LoDo. No kitchen, but Biker Jim's is right across the street and never a bad choice either. read more

Star Bar is no more and no less than it should be. Divey and dark, with stickers plastered across the bar cabinets, you know this place has earned the right to say "established in 1959." Yes, I look slightly out of place here, but so what? The beer selection is amazing (and rotates regularly), the bartenders are usually up for a chat between pours, and the place just feels like home. Plus, I hear they host movie nights out on the patio--something that I fully intend to take advantage of this summer. Star Bar is not the place for you if you're looking for something swanky or even really something hipster. But, if you're in the mood for a casual night with some great beer, good music, and chill surroundings, you should definitely check this place out. read more

Fucking amazing dive bar with great tap selection and great local liquor selection. On top of all that biznass these guys actually know how to make a drink and despite being a dive bar are very conversational. The one draw-back is their broke-ass pool table, the worst I've ever seen. But its fun and adds to the ambiance. read more

If you're bar hopping, this is a decent stop. Most of the time, this isn't a place I would stay for long. The bar is thin and long and usually very packed in. They have stuff going on a lot of nights and a decent selection of beers. The service is good but because of how loaded it usually is, getting a drink can be tough. Came in on a slow night thinking this place was going to be a great experience ended up being disappointed. Came In and went to the back of the "Jurassic Tiki bar" and was in the mood to just hangout and have a beer. Bartender puts the menu on table and starts talking about the drinks. Don't get there early or late! They partner up with a dirt bag towing company and will have your shit gone quick. Tried to go on a Saturday and just missed them. I've only been in Denver for two days but I've probably visited 17 bars, yea...don't judge. This bar is right in the middle of everything, yet just out of the way to make you feel cool for finding this gem. The staff is friendly, A total dive, but one of those types of dives that you've feel like you've been a regular within 15 minutes of your first beer. Live music?? They had a dude with a guitar, the kind of dude that I wished was my uncle if I grew up in backwoods Kentucky and didn't know any better. Place is the WORST. A fucking booth seat broke, sent me flying under the table and the drinks on the table spilled all over me. It sucked obviously but I was gonna just shake it off and ask the bar staff for a towel to dry off. I don't think I've ever been treated worse by a bartender in my life. I asked for a towel after pointing out what happened and I got laughed at and the barback threw a WET dirty towel at me. I tried again to explain that I wasn't even complaining I just needed a dry towel and the bartender came over and openly mocked me sarcastically asking if my bones were broken and calling me princess. I'm not usually a fan of dive bars. However, this place was pretty awesome. Matt, the bartender, was very personable and talkative. He gave us several great recommendations to check out. Their beer selection was awesome. We went on Sunday right when they opened and they weren't busy. They are located between the Lodo and Rino districts which are awesome place for beer and food. FYI, they don't open till 4pm so we got there and had to wait. The great things about Denver is that there are plenty of other bars so we walked down to the 1Up bar to play some video games. read more

Brian at the Star bar in Denver should definitely reconsider the customer service industry for his line of work. I am legally blind and cannot read the beer menu and asked him to tell me the ipas they have on tap and he was a complete dick and said "I don't have time to read menus to you" and asked away. I went here around midnight on a Saturday night. Paid ten dollars for one vodka red bull. Considering this bar is more of a dive style I would say that is pretty pricy for the area. My friend asked for a sugar free redbull and was ridiculed for the request. I understand the fact that you do not carry it in stock but mocking the customer as an employee is the part I do not understand. Uppity shit-hole. Don't get me wrong, I love dive-bars, but I cannot fathom why anyone would go here twice. The booths and bar itself were absolutely disgusting (sticky and dirty) and it wasn't even that busy. And the whole place smells like mold. There are two bars, one in the front that has live music, and one in the back that is a bit more chill and has a jukebox, but after spending $5 to select music, the bartender skipped every one of my selections because he "wasn't feeling it." I also watched this same bartender (male with glasses) pocket several patron's cash instead of typing it in the register (back bar is cash only). Super shady guy. A solid dive bar, right by Coors field. Came here in a large group, trying to find a place that would be able to take 20+ people on a Saturday night. There were some other bars in the area that looked a little too crowded for our large group, so we quickly saw Star Bar and made our way in. Managed to find a booth to put our coats and miscellaneous stuff. Gotta be careful and have someone on guard, because throughout the night, people did try to move our stuff out of the way and take the booth when we weren't all sitting down. Kinda weird, but we kept our guard up. I really couldn't quite put my finger on the crowd. There was definitely a very eclectic mix of people, so I guess there isn't any one set type of clientele. Not quite alternative, and not quite college-age, and not quite older. A pretty broad repertoire for sure. The bar itself is pretty large, with some games in the back like skee ball and darts. I really like the brewery scene in Denver, but I was really glad to come to a dive bar that had a bunch of different games and things to do while hanging out. While most breweries might have the far superior beer selection, Star Bar really had a nice, comfortable, and not-too-skeezy atmosphere, which is really all you can ask of a dive bar these days. We also made some selections on the jukebox near the front, which would play for $1 a song. Obviously, I put on Return of the Mack, my go-to bar song. Apparently there's karaoke on certain nights, so that will have to be tried in the near future. Bartenders were pretty friendly and quick, and they did have a number of different rotating Colorado draft beers, although I went with my typical Fat Tire in a can. I'm a creature of habit, ha. Prices were decent at around $5-$7 a beers, perhaps a little more for cocktails and well drinks. If you're looking for a nice, comfortable dive bar with some games in the back, and a readily accessible jukebox, look no further than Star Bar. read more

My favorite karaoke place in Denver Metro Area! Zak is a great KJ, fair rotations, always a fun loving crowd, great drinks, two smoking areas, great conversation, and phenomenal bartenders! I love my dive bars! This is one that I usually end up at after a long hard night downtown. Great night cap bar with cheap drinks and usually not too busy. To be completely honest I rarely have much of a memory of Star Bar but I keep going back so that is a good sign! read more
