I like the divey little Star Bar! It's bigger than it looks and has an outdoor back patio. They have bands often in a small corner of the bar. They have pickle beer -- LOL what?! Yes! I love pickles and pickle anything. It's in a great location right downtown and near Coorsfield. When in in the area, I gotta remember to go here more often versus other places. What an INCREDIBLE time to be had here. Conveniently located in the Lodo/Rino/Five Point area, or otherwise known as Larimer Square. These bartenders are the best in the biz. They are quick-witted, kind, and sometimes a little shrewd, but drinks are always top-notch! Star Bar is purely a place where (at least on karaoke Tuesdays and Thursdays) you can easily be the star. A bustling crowd from all walks of life met in this pretty small dive-like atmosphere. There's a bit of Texas or some cowboy or saloon influence in the bar so I wonder the history behind that. I know they also have live music and the dance floor is the perfect size for me. This bar has been around for decades. Shoutout to AJ, Justin, & Javier. They keep that bar going. And Zak - the Karaoke host is one of the best as well. As a Professional Karaoke singer (Haha)... he is your guy. He doesn't hog the mic and put himself in the queue - he allows you to have fun and he does pump you up! I felt like it was my very own concert the last time I was there. I have not tried any food, nor have I tried to go on the weekends. I don't like a HUGE crowd. All in all this is a great bar with great drinks and I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time. read more

I went her for a night out with co-workers. The whole staff was so nice and they do karaoke. Unfortunately there was one individual I think there sex is female and they had this fan. A fan ment for like cooling people off. Yet this person kept whacking the fan like a snare drum on every song. I mean every song. Like slow to fast ... whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, ....... It got to the point where this noise was ruining the sound of the songs people were trying to sing. I asked her to stop and she told me that I wasn't adding anything to the experience and that she comes her 3 times a week and thinks everyone loves it. She then told me to get out of "her" bar. Tbh my whole group and groups around me all thought it was very disruptive and annoying, taking away from the people who wet trying to sing. I love this atmosphere but if this is the 3 days of week local you want clacking at every 4 beat of a song ear piercing loud and then being rude on top of it... I would go to another karaoke bar. This a dark haven in the middle of a corporate nightlife district. I liked laid back atmosphere. I really liked the jukebox that was blasting a playlist of my favorite nu metal songs from around the turn of the century. I was able to get a drink quickly, though I wish more local beers were on tap. Seating is available at the bar and at some high tops in the main room. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!! We went in on a Wednesday night (it really wasn't that busy) and stood at the bar waiting to be served for at least 10 minutes. We eventually motioned to the bartender that we were ready to order (honestly to see if he was even aware that we were there) and he responded in the most condescending tone, telling us that he had a "system of tending to the groups ahead of us". I totally understand that, but his tone was incredibly rude right off the bat. When my friend and I responded with confusion, he doubled down. He was definitely doing the "I flirt with girls by being mean to them" bit and when he didn't like our reaction, he refused to serve us and kicked us out of the bar for being "shitty". Tried to get the bartender's attention because I thought he hadn't seen me yet or realized I was waiting for a drink (it had been like 10 mins). When I did, he came over and talked to me like I was 4 years old in the most condescending tone, explaining to me that he had a group to attend to that got here before me. When I reacted by not being smiley and friendly (because he was being a dick) he kicked me and my friend out!! When we asked what we did to deserve getting kicked out, he said "you guys were acting like assholes" And then stared at us, refusing to speak, with a smug grin on his face for like a minute when we asked for further clarification. It was some sort of weird power play. Seriously unsettling and actually very creepy. I forget his name but he was blonde with long greasy hair and a sickly complexion. Best dive bar ever! Great ice cold beers that rotate so you can try something new. They also have tiki inspired cocktails that Les & Matty can whip up. Word of advice don't write a bad review for the bar if 1) you get yelled at for smoking weed inside the establishment - duh and 2) if your car is towed out of the neighboring lot which star bar does not own or manage. Oh yes, Star bar is my kinda place. We came in with a group of coworkers to keep the party going. This is definitely a place I would frequent on a regular basis if I were nearby. No frills, cheap drinks, and a long bar full of locals. They got some games and a photo booth (which we fit a stupid amount of people into) and plenty of room to escape alone or bring the whole crew. After a night with co-workers for dinner and drinks, a few of us late night warriors were hungry for more. We were hoping for a divey place that was nearby and Star Bar was a suggestion that was made. They served alcohol, weren't too fancy and stayed open late... sign me up! For being pretty divey feeling, the tv menus above the bar were a little surprising. But all the other elements made it feel like a typical dive home. Bar games, cheap drinks, photo booth and that dark feeling that might hide a night of skipping a thorough cleaning. We hit up the photo booth when we arrive and managed to squeeze 5 full sized humans inside. A feat that was not very easy. We ordered drinks and had a seat. Came in here about a year ago and ordered a beer. Asked the bartender to borrow his phone because I had to make an important call and my phone had just died. He said "We don't do that here." I'm not sure what his thought process was before he said, but I thought to myself what a shame he can't just let me borrow his cell phone? I didn't jump to conclusions or make assumptions (like maybe he's judging my appearance or the way I talk or something). Terrible reflection of his character. Paying customer btw. Used to frequent Star Bar a lot about 6 years ago and it was a great dive bar, but I struggled with prices then, and that has not changed. I believe I paid $8-$9 for a vodka cranberry and that was a bit hard to swallow considering it was well vodka and the bar is divey. It's a nice place to come for maybe 1 drink then head out for a night of bar hopping, but not one that I would spend longer than a single drink at. During that time I never missed a karaoke Thursday and often times found myself at the Golden Tee machine with my friends on Saturday nights. We decided to rendezvous at the bar last night for a friends birthday and we're extremely dissatisfied with the attitude of the bartenders. This was the last stop on our Denver bar hopping adventure, so needless to say we were a few drinks deep by the time we got here. Our first stop once entering the bar? The photobooth. I don't know how we fit 5 adults in this booth, but there is photographic evidence that it happened. They have no problem being blatantly rude to your face, it actually amuses them so life must be pretty bleak if that's their best source of entertainment. I luvs me some Skee-Ball. Star Bar has two of them tucked in the back, by the restrooms. And even though the machine on the left is crammed against the wall, impeding proper Skee-Ball forms and flourishes, they are only $.50 to play, and that works for me. There was also a Rolling Stones pinball machine. I would call this place upper-divey, and it seems a bit cleaner and nice than many similar establishments. I liked the patio area out back. It had some nice chalk art and varied seating. I will be back in the future to imbibe. read more

I'm from out of town and intended to visit the Star Bar. Unfortunately couldn't get in the door. Someone was illegally towing a car from the parking lot next door, and a whole group of men who appeared to be employees were pouring out of the building just losing their sh*t. I had friends waiting for me inside the bar so I walked around the block to see if the men would cool off, but when I got back around there was a group standing around with their cell phones and someone was in the middle of a call to the police. One man had a visible gun tucked in his belt. I obviously left at that point, but heard sirens on their way. I see other reviews here saying they had their cars illegally towed at this same spot. Used to love this place but short bartender with a flat billed hat was absolutely disgustingly rude to my friend for absolutely no reason. I have never seen anything like it. He flat told her "can't you see how busy I am right now" when she asked for a straw. Pretty simple. Then literally threw a fit for the short time we were there. Tossing glasses and beers like a petulant child. It was the most insane and ridiculous thing I have ever seen. One other patron said " he has been terrible tonight".
