We learned about SBR through their workshops at our kids elementary school. My son and I had a 1-on-1 bike repair lesson with SBR owner - Ryan, in his quaint outdoor workshop. Ryan's approach makes bike repair engaging and non intimidating for beginners. We found the lesson more beneficial for our son with Autism than many traditional (and more expensive) therapies because it appealed to my son's favorite activity, empowered him to learn useful life skills, and lots of fine motor exercise while working on the bike. read more

Best service I've had in the Boulder area. Many times I've had inexperienced service at the bigger shops. Here you know who the Dr is. Will be back! read more

Ryan is everything his website says and more. He took on my project to update my beloved Lemond bike from the 90's and added an electronic derailleur. We talked about costs and options and all the decisions together, and as soon as the parts arrived he got it done. I took it on a great ride that afternoon and have been loving the new, improved bike ever since. So glad I found Ryan and the Standard Bike Repair. read more

Ryan helped me out with my bicycle late in the evening when everywhere else was closed, did a great job, made it possible for me to get home

We just moved here and our bikes came by moving van. They had removed the front tires and when they put them back on, they neglected to attach the brakes. We're novice bikers so we didn't know how to fix them. We called the closest bike shop and they told is it would be at least a week. I decided to try this shop and we got in the next afternoon. Not only did he attach the brakes but he taught us how to do it and taught us how to check our bikes. I'll never go elsewhere. 100% recommend. read more

I found Ryan's bike repair shop on Yelp when I ran into customer service issues with a large bike repair shop chain located in town that I had used for years. It was the 4th of July and I had brought my bike into town to drop it off for a tune-up after calling them on the phone. When I arrived their staff seemed more interested in blaming each other why they couldn't accept my bike, so that's when I decided to find another repair shop. Ryan was highly recommended on Yelp and he not only answered his phone on the holiday but arranged for me to drop my bike off at his shop immediately even though he was enjoying the day with his family (always the best choice). He had it fixed the next day. Now that's customer service. More impressive is his knowledge and experience. He has been doing this for 7 years full time and his expertise shows. He not only had this 12 year-old bike running better than it had in years but took the time to explain to me things about it I was unfamiliar with. I look forward for Ryan servicing our bikes for many years to come. read more

While Ryan is a SUPER nice guy, he's not quite the expert bike repair man...yet. I took my bike to him to repair a flat. He replaced the tube, and two days later it was flat again. He was super nice about fixing it for free, and even replaced the wheel band for free as he thought that my old one may have caused the second flat. When I got a third flat another two days later, I was pretty sure the repair job just wasn't done well. While Ryan promised to refund my money (which I haven't gotten yet), and while he was super nice, I just can't justify giving any more than 3 stars to a bike repair shop that can't fix a flat tire. UPDATE: Ryan did refund me for the faulty repair. read more

Ryan was very knowledgeable and friendly. He fixed my bike super fast and took care of a few issues that make it run better than ever. He is very reasonable and available. I love his shop and the fact that he is creating a life work family balance doing something he enjoys. read more

Ryan is truly amazing - great old-school service! He listens to you and what your goals are and then discusses what repairs and how they should be done based on that! Want it done "right" with top level parts, Sure. On a budget, he can work to that too and lets you know what might be an issue later, what can wait, and what should be really done now... And if you want to wrench on it yourself to learn, there's that option too. (Try that at a bigger shop!) read more

I will be recommending Standard Bike Repair to my friends and anyone interested! Ryan was so kind, helpful, and went above and beyond for a tune up. I wish more businesses were run this way! read more

I highly recommend Standard Bike Repair - great service & price. Ryan did got me back on the road - diagnosed the problem - my bike is working great. read more

Please support this local business! Super happy I came here for a bike tune-up rather than a commercial bike shop. Ryan has very fair prices and teaches you about your bike along the way. I'll definitely be coming here again! read more

I love this place! Ryan takes great care of my bike. I can always get an appointment right away (sometimes I just walk in) and services don't take too long. I'm new to Boulder and felt intimidated by all of the bike snobs in the area; I could hardly put air in my tires! Ryan taught me a lot about my bike so now I'm confident in my knowledge of the basics. Best thing about the shop is it is conveniently located in the heart of lots of residences. :) read more

Ryan was extremely helpful! He knows his stuff! Repaired my bike in a hurry and its working great now. Would definitely go back.

Good customer service is defined as making sure the customer knows you are credible and accountable, friendly and prompt, and genuinely interested in them and retaining their business. Standard Bike Repair embodies all of this! My boyfriend had a flat and he had already replaced the tube once. He brought it in and the owner replaced the tube again, and didn't find any reason for the flat. A day later, when the tire was flat again, the owner backed his work up by making sure to fix it right (thorn in the wheel! Previously undetected) and putting another tube in. Accountability and good service are a rare match and found at this bike shop! read more

I met the owner of this store last week when he pedaled up to Vic's Coffee on a really beautiful fixed gear bike. We talked about his bike- an old style steel frame, painted over solid, satin black, with really nice looking contrasting deep gold rims. Anyway, that's how I found out he owned a bike repair business that also did a small amount of retail. I had a badly bent derailleur. He had the special tool which realligns the derailleur to wheels/cogs. He fixed my old thumb shifter and replaced the cable. New shifter would have been $45 at REI. If I had wanted the generic part, he said he could get it for $10. As it was, I didn't even pay for the cable with the derailleur adjustment. Also, he checked brakes and the post derailleur-fix shifting. I replaced my grips which had been slipping around. He had all black Clark's grips which bolted onto the the handlebars for $10 which is $4.00 less than equivalent grips at REI. For the deraillurr adjustment and shifter fix and checking the rest of the bike he charged $42 which is what he charges for a 42 point inspection or basic tune. I believe that is significantly less than the big shops. Along with this inspection he cleans the bike. When I got to the shop, I was expecting him to look at the bike and set up a future appointment but he fixed it on the spot. He's got a very nice shop out of his house. 2 rooms dedicated to the shop with 2 Park stands in the front room, a very clean and organized bench with all tools neatly on a pegboard. During the warm weather, he has two additional Park stards outside, a nice canopy for shade, and about 10 colorful bikes, different types. Inside he had a full suspension Specialized mountain bike. Ouside he had my bike in one stand and a small purple road bike frame that he was building up into a single speed for his mom to ride during her upcoming visit. My impression was that the head mechanic/owner was definitely competent for what I needed and that his prices were better than the big shops. I think he treats 40 year old women on 10 year old Rockhoppers as well as he treats much younger, serious athletes on higher end bikes. read more

Ryan is the best. He is extremely knowledgeable and really knows his stuff about bikes. I truly appreciated him educating me about my bike & giving me enough information for me to feel confident that he was doing an awesome job. My bike has ridden seamlessly ever since going to see him 6 months ago. I had been to 3 other bike shops in the Boulder area and none of them impressed me like Ryan did. His prices are also very reasonable, which is great for a privately owned bike shop with such amazing customer service. I would highly recommend Standard Bike Repair! read more

The owner, Ryan, is a nice guy, but he doesn't know much about bikes. This will be my fourth time going in for the same initial issue, that turned into many other problems which stemmed from his first "repair" read more

Ryan is such a great business owner, he'll fix your bike no matter how old it is. He understands that we get attached to our 2 wheels and don't always want to "buy a new one" like every other shop in town suggests. He sourced parts for my old bike from other older bikes and gave me back my old bike in better shape than it's been in years. If you're sick of pretentious bike repair shops in Boulder, check out Standard Bike Repair. They care about your bike and you! read more

Wow, what a great experience at Standard Bike Repair! Ryan allowed me to bring my bike in same day--to get a brake line fixed & a wonky transition that was occurring between gears. He was upfront about cost of repairs, quality work, and was fun to talk with as he worked his magic to get my bike back into peak condition! I highly recommend Standard Bike Repair to keep your wheels rolling. read more

I have a variety of bikes and Ryan the owner of Standard Bike Repair can fix them all! He is not a negative guy, he is a positive guy and with great exuberance and handles his clients with flair! He has fixed my recumbent, mountain, road and cross bike and is ready for any challenge. If a guy like Ryan can fix any bike and has the ability to give great customer service he should be able to get your business! He is a great find in the central part of Boulder! read more

I got a good deal on an old bike which had been left outside for over 4 years. Needless to say, it needed some work. I brought it in to Ryan for a full overhaul. When I came to pick up the bike, it looked like a completely different bike! On top of that, he asked me a few questions about how I intended to use the bike. and he let me work with him to swap out the fork and stem to something which would be more comfortable for my commuting. I've been riding the bike every day to work and it works great!! I would strongly recommend Standard Bike Repair to anyone! Thanks, Ryan. read more

Ryan is a wonderful guy and a great mechanic. He takes the time to get to know you and how you use your bike. He won't make you feel dumb if you don't know anything about bikes, and you won't feel uncomfortable if you don't have a top-end bike. He will patiently explain things and give you helpful tips while he shows you how to care for your bike. I can't recommend him highly enough. read more

Ryan changed the way I viewed my bicycle riding experience. My previous bike was a heavy, clunky, no fun to ride cross bike that I bought from a box store because I hadn't owned a bike since my youth. I loathed riding it despite how much fun people always seemed to tout riding could be. When I met Ryan, he pointed out all of the reasons why my riding experience was such (i.e. unnecessary and heavy components, more gears than I needed for the way I ride, my size in relation to my bike, the width of my wheels / tires and so much more that I had no idea about). He helped me build a bike that became my prized possession and encouraged me to look for excuses to ride rather than excuses to drive. That speaks volumes about his knowledge, compassion and service. Whenever my bike needs an adjustment, or a tune-up (a maintenance task I now find great value in supporting) I can always count on Ryan Kelley of Standard Bike Repair to take care of me! read more

I think standard bike repair is a great place to get a fixie, but ten-speeds might not be their forte. A few months ago they sold us road that is still on their website as for sale. Also, they had been trying to sell the bike for something like 1200 dollars. We only paid $450 for it, and rightly so. The frame is terrific - rides like a dream. Only problem was that when they went to build it up it was obvious that they just pulled together whatever they happened to have in the bin. The brands, ages, and quality of the parts where all over the map. I found things where not properly adjusted: like the bottom bracket that wasn't properly tightened, which is a safety hazard. read more

This is an awesome bike repair shop. Ryan went above and beyond what was required of any "standard" bike repair to get me up and going on my new bike. If you are looking for customization there are no limits at this repair shop. I am extremely satisfied with the bike that I left with, and had a lot of fun while fixing it! read more

as soon as we met he spent time to learn my name, learn about my life and genuinely asked how I was doing. it was cold out and he gave me his jacket. although he probably had a long list of things to do he chose slow down and be intentional. he took the extra time to do things right. he is a guy I want to be like. Ryan is a man. his character was manly in the most humble way. he knows how to balance hard work and also how to be human and care for others. he was so reasonable with the pricing I couldn't fully understand how how he made money. then I realized he doesn't work for money. he works to provide for his family and care genuinely for people. I received far more than he charged. time with him today was a blessing. he silently challenged me to be intentional. when I had a minute I spent time sweeping his shop. with a man like this it only seemed normal to serve him. I will come back to his shop just to spend time with him. I suggest everyone to come by his bike shop. read more
