I went in to get a flat tire repaired and was charged $35. When I asked why I was so expensive the owner said the price of tubes had increased when I looked into the price of tubes the increase was not enough to charge $35 to change a tire. You would think that the shop owner would care more about the reputation of the bike shop and making an extra $15. Unfortunately capitalism is alive and well in the bubble. read more

Having had service done at BBW, I would not return or recommend anyone go here for service. My mountain bike had a mystery creak, they "fixed" by tightening several bolts and cleaning the headset and charged me $100+. After I picked it up, it still creaked. I then took it to University Cycles where they spent less than 10 minutes deducing it was a loose brake caliber bolt and charged me nothing. Don't go to BBW when other shops like UC do a better job, with no cost associated with a quick once over. read more

I have an ebike where the headset got really messed up. It was very difficult to turn and the front brake cause some wobbling by the headset. Tightening the screws didn't really help--it caused steering to be more stiff and it still wobbled. I took my bike here and Dave was very friendly and informative. He is very transparent on what would be done on the bike and what they might need to do if they find further issues with it along with what the cost would be. When I got the bike back, my steering felt like a brand super smooth and the wobbling was completely gone. On top of a job well done, I noticed that they went above and beyond by fixing stuff that I didn't even ask for. They had reset my front brake cable which was installed incorrectly and adjusted my kick stand, which never worked for me and was always falling. Thanks so much for the great service! I came in because I was having trouble replacing a lever blade on a Shimano MTB lever due to the spring placement. One of their techs insisted that you need to undo the lever and therefore bleed the entire system. I was skeptical of this so I said I'd do it myself at home. Turns out with a little patience and the correct starting placement of the spring you don't need to do any of that. Good thing I didn't follow their advice and waste time performing an entire brake bleed. His advice made no sense as your are basically aligning 3 things to put a pin through. read more

Everyone on this shop is an expert and will spend the time needed to make your bike the best it can be. This seems like a truly great bike shop. I've been steeped in bikes (all kinds: road, mtb, gravel, cx) for several decades now and I do the vast majority of my own bike work, but I needed a wheel rebuilt and that's such a faff and also I'm quite mediocre at it, so I looked at reviews and settled on this shop. Wheel turned out great. Price was fair. I felt listened to. Communication was flawless. Brian and his team are awesome and do awesome work. I do most of my own maintenance but whenever I have something I can't figure out, I immediately head over there. I have unnecessarily complicated Hope components and these guys are more than happy to tolerate them. I always seem to learn something new as the mechanic comes out and talks me through what he did when I pick up the bike, which I enjoy (usually learning how I messed up haha). This place is a rip off! I went to boulder Bicycle Works to have the front tire on my husband's bike replaced. The employee who greeted me told me I would need a wheel, tube and tire. He quoted me what I thought was a reasonable price. I gave him my name and phone number, and asked if I would receive any paperwork. He told me that was all and I would pay upon pick up. When picking up the bike I found the work to be 30% more than the quoted price. When I asked about the discrepancy I was told "labor costs more". This is a dishonest practice. If I had known the work would cost that much more I would have taken my business elsewhere. I suggest you do to. I will not be back and not recommend. read more

Had been to multiple bike shops for simple repairs on my new ebike, and all to no avail. Range of reasons like, "didn't buy it here so won't work on it", "can do it but it'll take 21 days","don't do ebikes", etc. The last place also refused even look at it, but they did refer me to this shop. What an amazing shop, owner, and experience I had here! Dave was courteous, listened, and is extremely knowledgeable. He accepted the job and even had it done the next day! One of the earlier shops I visited claimed to be "the best bike shop in the state". Ha, not true! This shop and Dave are the best in the state! BTW, I used to work on bikes myself for many years, doing complete tear downs and rebuilds, so I know real knowledge and skill when I see it. Dave and this shop have that. This town has too many snobby bike shops. And I own really nice and not cheap bikes. But walking into BBW, you get a different vibe. There is nobody looking down their nose and acting as if they'll get to you when it's convenient. Not overly expensive and real problem solvers, they focus on doing good maintenance work and finding ways to help. They did a tune and chain wax/clean up. Delivered when promised and then located a part that had eluded other shops back in Chicago when I lived there. No rush, no pressure. Just solid partnering. I arrived unannounced with no appointment looking for advice on how to reassemble my daughter's new bike, which had been taken apart and basically trashed by a moving company. Great Spot! After multiple failed attempts to repair the broken front-breaks on my 1992 Cannondale at Boulder's more prevalent bike shops down on Pearl Street (they didn't carry the older parts that were "necessary" to get it rolling again", I had finally found a place that fixed it without a problem. Dropped the bike off and picked it up the next day ready for action. I believe Brian did the bike work, but both guys there were very friendly and informative. Snagged a brochure for century ride in Trinidad, CO. (cyclocross?). Maybe I'll put it to use :). Paid around $50.00 for new breaks and grip tape. They did some basic bike maintenance free of charge. read more

I was thoroughly impressed with the staff's demeanor, desire to help and their ability to explain the issue at hand. They gave me the most reasonable quote I had heard so far (which they did not exceed by a penny after the work was completed) and finished the repairs in under two days. This place rocks. There is a reason they have been around so long. I called on a Tuesday hoping to get a bike fit for a bike I had already owned to get my measurements and suggestions to get my bike more comfortable. I own a Canyon Endurace 8.0 and if you know bikes you know you can't really try these bikes out at a shop. After 6 months of riding I just felt like I was trying too hard to compensate for certain things. The bike frame fit but everything else felt "off". Eric took my call and said he could fit me in Thursday am! They fit you for 2 hours from 0800-1000 before the shop opens so they have 0 distractions which is so cool. Eric spent that time letting me pick his brain/getting my shoes feeling good/getting all the measurements dialed in/ giving me honest suggestions on components I could change to make me feel good on the bike. He never once suggested that I needed some crazy high end anything. He gave me honest feedback and created a list of things he felt would help my ride out. He ordered parts right then and there and gave me an upfront cost of the parts. I always expect labor to be added into that later on and was surprised to find out that they only charged $30 to install my new bars- stem- tape- and saddle. They had my bike up and running in 1 1/2 days from when I dropped her off. The bike fit was $150 which is by far the cheapest I have ever found. I love the mom and pop vibe. These mainstream bike shops I have found to not be of the hometown taste I am after. Will 100% be coming back to have anything done. The only complaint I have is I wish I found these guys sooner. read more

Brian at Boulder Bicycle Works agreed to accept my electrified Trek, put it back together and make it road ready. This was a blessing to me as I was moving to the area. BBW had the bike ready for me before I even got to town. SInce then I noted a small issue, probably caused during shipping, on the bike brakes. Brian told me to bring it in and they'd try to turn it around that day. Sweet! This is a small shop that seems to depend on repairs, not new bike sales, for their revenue. It seems like the type of shop you can talk bikes in, not that I'm a bike geek like so many in Boulder seem to be, but that yes, I've put together my bike and know it well. I can do a lot of the work myself or at least talk through the options. The bike was fitted in a Chicago shop. I'm looking forward to running it around Boulder. Thanks Brian and BBW! :) read more
