I bought a $2000 touring bike from these hacks and was treated like they were doing ME a favor. Surly and non-helpful in any way. FAR more interested in impressing each other than helping a cash-paying customer. They tried to sell me a bike with serious damage to the paint, but I made them get me an un-damaged one. They tried to say that damaged paint "wasn't really damage". Total BS from worthless, ignorant people. I do not recommend this store for ANYTHING - period. I'll never go back. They were the only store that had what I wanted, or I would have walked out. If they had a "zero-star" rating, I would have selected that. read more

I went to BCS South on June 15th to get a wheel with broken spokes repaired. The repair tech advised me that 4 broken spokes usually means that the wheel needs to be replaced. (Makes sense) I was told that I would get the repaired wheel back by Friday, June 18th. The tech checked their suppliers for new wheels, but the new wheels are back-ordered. When I got home from running errands, I got a text saying that my wheel was repaired! The repair price was reasonable, the service was speedy, what more does anyone need? Check these guys out! Always condescending and stuck up. Were never very friendly, but I was willing to look past that. Not anymore. The last straw was when they sold me a tube that had a hole in it (potentially due to a manufacturing defect, or some mystery, I'm not sure.) When I brought it back literally 15- 20 minutes later they didn't trust me and told me they thought it was a pinch flat. (even though I could not have possibly ridden on it in the 15 minutes since I bought it). To add insult to injury, upon bringing it back, I realized it was a 650c tube, even though I had grabbed it from above the 700c label on the shelf. I didn't get any respect and more importantly, they didn't give my money back or give me a replacement tube. If ripping people off on tubes is the only way bike shops can stay in business these days, that deeply saddens me. Forget these stuck up jerks, take your business to FULL Cycle or Community Cycles. read more

Had such a bad experience with Boulder Cycle sport south. I take my bike in to get a tune and the tubeless tires resealed. When i get it back, bth brakes are locked u. They were not like this when i took it in. I did not know that they were locked up. But the kid at the counter told me that this was a known warranty issue shram would fix this but i had to pay BCS another $20 for their time. I come to find out that they get trade credit and not money to fix warranty stuff so BSC charges me extra. I take it home and get on it when I'm ready to ride and thats when i learn both brakes are locked up. I take it back in, today, and the same kid at the counter tells me he needs to check with Shram and will let me know today if its a warranty fix. No call back so i call and he tells me he didnt have time to call and check on my issue but he can call tomorrow. I am done with this crew, this store. Fortunately in Boulder there are plenty of bike repairs options so no loss. read more

I've never written a review before but feel like this is necessary for the public to know. This was far and away the worst experience I've ever had with a bike shop. I took my mountain bike in for a tune up which is ~$100. Everything on my bike was functioning properly when I took it in, though I did need a brake replacement. Instead of doing the tune up like I signed up for, the bike shop decided to do a full shock treatment to the front and rear shocks (something that is far more expensive than a tune up and something I never asked for). When I picked up my bike, the back tire was flat, even though it was perfectly functional when I took it in. The shop blamed it on my tire being old and worn, even though it was perfectly functional with plenty of tread when I took it in. The shop claimed they contacted the tire company about warranty for the tire but they never got back to me. I ended up having to pay $80 for a brand new tire that was fully functional when I took it in to the shop. When I took the bike home, I noticed that the handlebars were not screwed on and there was dirt caked on the derailleur and chain. I called and asked why these parts were not cleaned because cleaning these parts is included in the level 1 tune up. The bike shop said there was a mistake with my order and they did a shock treatment instead of a tune up- even though I had signed up for a tune up and it was marked in their schedule as a level 1 tune up. At the end of this experience, I was charged over $320 for a new tire (that was perfectly functional when I dropped it off), shock treatment (that I never signed up for), and brake replacement (the only thing I actually needed...). Again, the level 1 tune up was only supposed to be $100. I asked the shop for a discount because they messed up my order and I was charged far more than the tune up. They didn't give me one and just said, "sorry, we really messed up here with communication". I am still furious about this experience and would not recommend this shop to anyone. read more

I recently was looking for a bike and wandered into their south store to see what they had to offer. They have an amazing selection of really sweet bikes. My previous visit was to purchase my little one a strider style push bike made by Specialized, and the service was top notch (not to mention that she loves it!) This visit however was for me and required moderate adjustment of multiple bikes to get a proper feel for a full suspension mountain bike. The staff were incredibly attentive and very knowledgable about the products they have, not to mention they went out of their way to help me test ride a couple of bikes on a busy day. I am very impressed with the design of the store as well as the large selection of bikes, supplies, and accessories. Going here is very much like going to the candy store! read more

I see what others are saying about serving high end customers (some pretty spendy bikes in there), but I'm an average Joe and was treated very well this week. I wanted to demo a Turner Sultan and they had my size in stock but the demo model was up for sale and not in their demo fleet anymore. No problem though. Jim let me pick it up mid-day so I could get a ride in that day and the following before I had to return it. When I brought it back, we talked about what I liked and didn't like about the ride and he suggested some geometry changes that might make it a little less twitchy in the front end for me. Also, he offered me the opportunity to take it back out again for another ride at no charge. That's great customer service IMHO. read more

The front desk service is friendly and is relatively helpful showing the limited selection of bikes that they carry. If you're just shopping around and want to ride the higher trim version of the bike you like, then you should be ok visiting here. However... I wouldn't take my bike to the service department ever again. I live up the street and decided (against my Better judgement) to have them take a look at some creaking I was experiencing in my rear wheel. 2 days and $60 later i was told it was good to go.... It wasn't. My mechanic in Denver took apart the rear hub and discovered the problem in minutes. He didn't even charge me for the work. Apparently the tech at bcs didn't even touch the rear hub during his diagnosis of the creaking. In conclusion, these guys are too busy, too pricy, and too inexperienced for me to recommend. read more

Nice store that does a good job supporting local clubs. I want to buy a bike there but so far I just haven't found the right one other than kids bikes. The have a nice selection of accessories and some high end bikes, especially mt. bikes. If you're interested in a road bike they have some selection but I've heard several times that "they have it at the north shop" Probably more road bike selection up north. Service staff is helpful and knowledgeable but they always seem busy or need longer than other shops for service. Great asset for south Boulder read more

We've been frequent flyers at the North Boulder location for over 15 years, and they've never let us down. We always get great service, and the shop always stands behind their products. Just popped in yesterday needing a small part for a home repair on my son's derailleur, fully expecting to pay for the part, but they gave it to me for free. Day before that I needed a quick turnaround on a fix for a flat tire (YES - same bike - that kid seems to be pretty hard on his bike!) - and they were able to do it right away while I waited just a short time in the shop. read more

My experience with this place was excellent for both purchasing a new bike and also for taking my older bikes in for tune-ups & maintenance. The customer service that I receive deserves recognition because my older bikes look and feel like new after each tune up. Was in town for the US Pro cycling challenge, and wanted to ride myself. Reached out via phone and online, simple process to rent a bike. When I arrived, I was informed that they had upgraded my bike ! Great Scott with Ultegra setup, top class, had been used maybe once. Was provided with a proper fit that lasted 20 mins , to ensure I could enjoy the bike. Overall very nice guys, very knowledgeable , and genuinely friendly. 3 days for $200 - no complaints. Shop has a full scale of bike products, from, well, bikes to gear to nutrition to foam rollers - just great, but not over the top. read more

I had a "Level 2" bike fit recently with Sean at BCS. I have never had a bit fit that was as thorough, or had the person who did it be so helpful! I had been having issues with my saddle and he recommended that I try another. After riding the saddle for a couple of days, I realized that it didn't work for me after all and I was allowed to return it, hassle-free. What's more, after I returned it, he re-fit me with my original saddle again, without charging me extra. He spent so much time getting my fit right, I almost felt guilty that I didn't have to pay extra! Sean is HIGHLY recommended by me for bike fits. read more

After buying a bottle of tubeless sealant they told me they wouldn't let me use their air-compressor because "they don't let customers use their tools," however they'd be happy to fill my tires for $10 per wheel. What a deal! So I went down the road to Full Cycle where they have not only an air compressor for customer's use, but a bike stand and basic set of tools. Save your money, go to a bike shop that doesn't treat their customers like children. read more

Review is for SOUTH store. I came to Boulder from Mexico in late May to train for a high-altitude event in June. I took my bike into South BCS for a tune and left it overnight. Next day I got a call - the mechanic found a slightly bent derailleur hanger, tried to straighten it, and "it broke" in the process. Bike was unrideable, no idea when he could get a replacement part from their distributor (his guess was 1-2 weeks but his attitude was "whenever"). I told him my training situation, and I was clearly distraught, yet his attitude was "whatever". I asked if the part could be FedExed, he told me I was welcome to figure it out on my own. After doing some research I found out the manufacturer of the replacement part is located IN BROOMFIELD and one phone call and a 25 minute drive and I got the part I needed. I told the tech at BCS that the manufacturer was local and he said yeah, he knew that (but of course never told me). Attitude: whatever. He never took any responsibility for breaking the part. He never once said "I broke the part" (it was always "the part broke"). He never once said "I'm sorry" that he broke the part. He had zero interest in my predicament or in even giving me the information I needed to solve my problem. I've seen other bad reviews about the service department, I should have heeded them. read more

It is really nice to come across a person experienced in the bike industry like Andy at Boulder Cycle Sport. I stopped by Cycle Sport to look for a new helmet. Because I had a severe concussion last year, I have read and thought a lot about the new "Mips" helmets, Multi-Directional Impact Protection System helmets. People hope this new technology will remove the rotational forces which cause a lot of the concussion damage in bicycle crashes. Andy was able to explain how the various Mips liners were meant to decrease rotational forces. He pointed out that the ability of a helmet to rotate when struck at an angle is what is important- the yellow Mips liner doesn't guarantee that a helmet will rotate effectively to prevent concussion. Andy's perspective was very helpful. What I ended up buying was a Giro air attack with a thin helmet liner which rotated better on my head than any of the Mips helmets I tried on. Cycle Sport has a very knowledgeable cycling expert in Andy. He has sound perspective on emerging technology. He is respectful. He gave me lots of information but didn't tell me what I should buy. I had a fabulous experience with the repair department at the South Boulder Store; Harrison helped us and he was so nice! I had to bring in my son's bike twice that day, once for a gear shift adjustment and then again when my son popped his inner tube jumping curbs on the way home. Harrison prioritized getting my son's bike squared away on the spot since he knew he was eager to ride more that afternoon. The price was right and the service was great! Great service! The maintenance staff built my Scott Spark with great attention to detail and followed special requests on the build. No failures to date. Shifting has been nothing but spot on. Sean gave me a great bike fit recently. He had no problem staying late to dial it all in -- it says a lot that he didn't mind at all taking the extra effort to make sure I left feeling good. He emphasized that he could help me down the line if something wasn't quite right once I got used to the fit. Since my fit, my back problems have disappeared and I feel much more on top of the pedals. Why didn't I do this sooner? The whole BCS crew gets 5 well-deserved stars in my book. read more

Used this shop for years for standard tune-ups and repairs. People are friendly and the work used to be good. Last year, shortly after having a total tune-up my crank fell off while I was on a ride. IT hadn't been properly tightened. Maybe such untoward events happen to all bike shops, but to me this bespeaks lack of quality control and i won't return. There seems to be a lot of year-to-year turnover in personnel. read more

It was the day before the Boulder, Colorado Ironman race in September 2016; and I was wheeling my road bike to the drop off zone near the Swim/Bike transition area, when all of a sudden my bike fell to the ground. After I picked it up, I noticed that the back tire wouldn't spin. I only had two hours left until my bike needed to be in position, so I rushed over to Boulder Cycle Sport. Thankfully Chris was on duty and was able to diagnose the problem on my bike within minutes. Chris made a quick phone call and within 5 minutes, a guy walked into the store with the part that I needed to replace on my bike. After a few more minutes, Chris had repaired my bike and took it for a test ride. What could have been a complete disaster was averted thanks to Chris. By the way, the very next day I was able to successfully complete my First Ironman Race! read more

I bought a used demo bike - a Scott Scale 710 - from this shop on October 31, 2015. The shop is one of the best I've ever been in. Every employee was friendly and helpful. They made sure the bike was exactly what I was looking for, and even swapped out and mounted tires that I brought with me. They even diagnosed a little problem that I had with one of the tires (I had damaged a sidewall - thought I dented the old rim). Anyway, they explained that it wasn't a big deal. I wish I lived in Boulder so I could visit this bike shop more frequently. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. read more
