We ordered a Trike on line. Longmont Bicycle assembled it. Chris was great. It was a gift and he…read moreactually got the trike to our home without my husband knowing. He went the extra mile when we had trouble riding it. Returned to the house watched us try to ride and solved our problem. What incredible personal service.

I just found out--and admittedly, it's on me for trusting the clerk knew what he was doing and not…read moreIMMEDIATELY checking every single thing he did before I left the shop or paid--that at my last visit, they installed my new tubes with NON-REMOVABLE-CORE presta valves ... without consulting me first. This is even weirder because I brought the bike in with schraeders installed, and the clerk assured me that even with prestas (The only type they had on hand, somehow??? Apparently???) I would be able to put slime in. I was not able to put slime in. Specifically, FlatOut. I want to clarify that the man that I spoke to during this last repair WAS NOT THE OWNER! The owner has always been very kind and accommodating, I think he might have just hired on a guy who shouldn't be in a customer-facing job, and I had bad luck-of-the-draw. I was trying pretty hard to be polite with the repair tech at the time to keep the tone light despite being told multiple times that what I wanted (A tube with a schraeder valve, the most commonplace type-) wouldn't be possible on my standard-size 26-inch tires. It must not have worked because the entire conversation, the guy I spoke to was using a very infantilizing tone that makes me wonder how he talks to his female colleagues if he talks to his female customers as if they don't have object permanence and have never seen a multi-speed bicycle in their lives. He told me to my face that I would be able to put my Flatout in, seeing as we live in goatshead burr country ... which requires a removable core. I should not have believed him. 80 bucks for a single tube-liner replacement that was literally the exact opposite of what I asked for on a slow weekday afternoon? No offense, but absolutely never again. You basically can't tell the difference until you get your face right up against the tire because the difference is so minute, but fun fact: once a NRC presta is damaged, there is nothing you can do about it except buy another brand-new tube. I have no choice but to completely replace this tube, which I'm sure is very good for their business model but has unfortunately lost them a customer, given that this was the third time in less than a year riding a road-bike on a well-maintained sidewalk. The unfortunate last straw. Given that they also sold me tannus tire-armor in the wrong size the first time (then when I came back to install it on the other wheel, AFTER I paid for the part order, told me that the original tire-armor they installed was the wrong size--as if that was somehow my fault, even though all I did was listen to the clerk and tap a card when they swore up and down that everything was copacetic--and then informed me that they didn't actually have any they would fit, so if I wanted liners I'd simply have to take what they had or order MORE %$#*ING PARTS with only a cursory promise that they MIGHT fit.) I am now genuinely wondering if this was deliberate sabotage to ensure I'd come back and buy more tubes. I am also wondering if the owner is aware that this is even happening, because I work with multiple bike commuters who say that they'll never go to Longmont Bike either for similar reasons. That feels like a bad-faith thing to assume, but I've had enough bad repair experiences in a row that I think it either has to be genuine neglect/incompetence on that one tech's part or a planned-obsolescence tactic. I wanted to like this shop so, so badly. It's local, it had what I needed (as long as I was coming in for small accessories like a U-lock, or a pump) and I'm genuinely bummed that I can't in good sense consider them as an option now. I'm gonna have to take my chances with the University of Youtube in a town full of cyclists, which is a crying shame.
