I was so saddened to see the "nothing held back" and "clearance" signs peppered all over the front of this establishment. As you'll note from my previous review I was a big fan of this shop. They did great repairs on my vintage Schwinn and carefully constructed my vintage English bike shipped from Maine. While the repair portion of the store is no longer scheduling bike repairs one of the staffers is branching off to open his own repair shop. Just head on back to the bike repair area to add your name to a contact list so he can reach out when his new shop is up and running. Nearly everything in the store is on sale (fixtures excluded, however there is a sign up for those items). My gal pal and I perused the bikes (she's in the market for one), ladies clothing, snacks, and helmets. My gal pal scored a beautiful Giro helmet for 40% off, score. If you are in the market for some bike accessories, or event a new bike definitely come and check this place out ASAP as the staff weren't able to confirm when the doors would close for a final time. read more

Received an email from Performance Bike stating I won a Hammerhead Karoo. I replied as they required and received no word or reply - was waiting on the tracking info for my prize. Emailed them 3 more times over the course of the week - still nothing. So I called the 800 number waite din iline ot talk and when they answered I explained the issue and he laughs and starts to tell me story. a few minutes later he reveals they sent emils to all their customers and it was a mistake we all didnt win. What a bunch of bulllshit!! They didnt bother sending us all out n email letting us know of the mistake? Im sure everyone was contactign them - instead they let me waste my time thru out week emailing them and then calling to find out iut wasnt real. This seems like a big marketign scam to get your customers attention and try to keep it by offering fake prizes. Im not going to purchase from this store ever again!!! Purchased a new bike from them. They assemble as much as possible then ship. Bike arrived to me missing the seat post clamp hardware so I can't ride my new bike or be sure everything is as it should be mechanically. It's been 4 days since I reached out to report the issue and I have not received any communication from them. I should have driven the hour plus to a bike shop that represents the brand I purchased. Would have needed to make 2 trips but would have come out with a rideable bike. I don't recommend purchasing a new bike from Performance. read more

I purchased a bicycle from another Performance location and came up from Highlands Ranch as they had a different size in stock. The entire experience was fantastic and I'm glad I made the trip. Staff was unbelievable helpful, worked with me on trying a different size and ultimately adjusting the ride I had previously purchased. If I lived closer this would be my go to shop. Best prices when there's a sale. Don't expect a lot of sales help but my neighbor has had his rear wheel repaired free for the last year each time he's had a problem so he loves them. They do honor their satisfaction guarantee even if their sales folks get surly about it sometimes. I exchanged a pair of sunglasses one time and the sales guy hinted that I shouldn't have bought them in the first place and that I should expect them to break again. When I asked him what I should do, he just shrugged his shoulders like he could care less. read more

I have had a string of fantastic experiences in this store as of late. You've got a lot of choices when it comes to bike retailers in Boulder. When I was in the market recently for a new carbon road bike, I checked out a good many of them. While each one had reasonable customer experience and a nice selection of the usual suspects (Cannondale, Trek, Specialized, Giant, and so forth) I always felt like I was being talked down to, even though I've been cycling for 25 years and know my way around a bike. And there wasn't all that much difference in the bikes as long as you were comparing apples to apples. Performance carried a brand or two that I wanted to check out, and I wasn't expecting much in the way of customer service, which was OK. And then.... ....I had some of the best customer service I've had in ANY retailer over the past decade. Tom spent a great deal of time with me on a Saturday morning going over the bikes I was interested in in detail. He was friendly, approachable, and really knows his stuff. By the end of the day, I had purchased my new bike and was tickled with the overall experience. A few weeks later Tom did a fitting for me (included with the purchase of the bike) and I have to say it fits me beautifully. What makes Performance even more compelling are the PRICES. Maybe it is because they are a nationwide dealer with significant buying power, but their regular prices are pretty good, and their sale prices (which happen all the time) are fantastic. I ended up with an Ultegra-level, full high-mod carbon ride for just over $2K, and no, not a "house brand" bike. Prices on clothing and parts and accessories are great, AND you can also buy on-line and have things delivered to the store. Not to mention they'll give you back 10% on your purchases in store credit if you sign up for their membership program. I also should mention I had similarly positive experiences with Nathan and AJ. I realize this sounds like an unqualified rave, and perhaps if you're looking for something ultra-high-end this isn't the shop for you. But for the 99%, I think you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't check out Performance. read more

Overall, this bike store is great if: 1) You know exactly what you want 2) You don't need help from an associate 3) You are cheap like me =) Those issues aside, they have a liberal return policy, they match any price, and the sales associate was honest enough to tell a customer to come back next week during an anniversary sale. I picked up some bike shorts with gel padding, a helmet and a tail light for 90 bucks. Not bad. Will have to see how the shorts hold up. One other thing; I did not see any Specialized Bikes for sale... Good thing I got mine in CA. read more

The state of my bicycle was an embarrassment. She's so good to me Spring through Fall, but I am a neglecting parent. She sits out in the cold through winter braving the elements, rusting, and collecting bird-poo. When I wheeled my little tike into the local Performance Bicycle Shop she had a flat tire and needed some care. No appointment necessary, the spiffy, friendly, and handsome workers quickly took over and in a matter of 10 minutes she was back good as new (Bird-poo wiped off my seat, and everything!) My total? $15! She got a new wheel installed, a good wipe down, some oil on the gears, and presto! She was lookin' good and more importantly riding well. I was encouraged to come back again when I had time to take advantage of my free tune-ups (since I purchased my bike there). For now I'm back out on Boulder Creek enjoying the Spring time sun. *Bling bling* read more

I needed a new SRAM twist grip shifter for my 20-year old Giant bike. The part arrived promptly in good condition. I installed it and found it worked, but not quite perfectly. When I notified Performance, they informed me that I had ordered a slightly different model than I should have. Although they could have blamed me and said "tough luck", they bent over backwards and shipped me the correct shifter. Overall, terrific service people and good products at very fair prices. I think I got a great deal on a bike a couple weeks ago and since then have bought some misc items and taken my older bike in for a tune up... The tune up was such a rip off, it cost almost half as much as the new bike! I asked about the labor charges and the cashier was so rude to me, like how dare I ask? I am a high paying customer and have the right to ask what I'm paying for. For this reason I will not go back there. I feel very ripped off and belittled. read more

I like to work on my mountain bike myself and was wary of going to a chain store -- especially in Boulder, with so many great bike shops around. Originally ended up at Performance circumstantially (found a great deal on a wheelset) and A.J. took such great care of me that next time I needed something fixed I went back. Even better service the second time. Well, not better service per se, but the task at hand was much more complex and A.J.'s service was as exemplary as the first time around. Just bought a bike from there and it was a very awkward experience. I found it strange that a bike shop didn't have ample space to "test ride." I bumped into racks and couldn't do a full turn. Staff was comprised of about 4 high school boys that were uncomfortable talking to me and checking me out was painfully slow. I didn't get a fitting, so I had to have a friend adjust my brakes and seat. As I was leaving the teenage boy told me lifetime tune ups are included in my purchase - good to know! read more

My first time here was a great experience. 1. I brought my bike in to an anticipated tuneup (as all other shops said I needed ranging from $79 to $135) After inspection told me I didn't need one just a general gear cleaning (which is less than a tuneup) and didn't need it until October. Well in meantime the brake cable broke so I brought it back and told them in addition to the brake cable repair, might as will do the other recommended service After they wrote it up, he wrote it up in a different way that would save me money. If that wasn't good enough after they repaired it and did the necessary service he further saved me money The total cost was approximately $35 less than I originally anticipated These will be by new bike needs shop UPDATE : just came in (May 24, 2018) because my gear wasn't shifting right. After purchasing a Tomasso bike on Giantnerd.com and having a tremendous amount of issues with flat tires, I went to the Performance store in Ft. Collins and purchased new high dollar tires that I hoped would help my situation. It didn't, but the moral of the story is that after about 5 rides after having them installed, my tire went flat and this time, I had a rip in the tire. I took the tire to Performance in Boulder and they replaced the tire with no questions asked. I have to say that this kind of customer experience led me to purchasing a FUJI bike with them on the same day. I want to thank Walker and Will for helping me that day. Walker was very kind and informative with helping me select a bike to fit my needs. Will was incredibly busy that day, but took the time to help me with my Tomasso bike issues. I took my bike in for repairs after trashing the dérailleur on the trail - not the first time I've taken it there. As always, the staff was helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. They returned my bike a day earlier than promised and it's literally working like new, for less money than they estimated. They will honestly only do repairs that are needed and will give you the facts to decide what needs to be done. While I was discussing what was wrong with my bike, I overheard another customer talking with another employee about the repairs needed on his bike. The service rep was patiently explaining how the customer could do the repair himself, saving him lots of cash, I imagine. I've had the same experience myself on other visits. It's this type of service that makes me feel like the Performance staff are partners in my cycling life. I've been intimidated at other shops in town, but at Performance I always leave feeling good. read more

After my visit to this Performance Bike Shop I felt the need to warn other people about this horrible store. I was limited for time and needed to buy a bike for a special occasion. I walked into the store and really needed some help. I was completely ignored. The group of staff sitting around in the back seemed more interested in their conversation than they did in helping me buy a bike. They lost my business. I googled bike shops in the area, and ended up at U Bikes. What a great store. I bought the bike ($3500) and will def be back again. I have run a retail store before and I would have been mortified if one of my patrons experienced what I did at this Performance Bike Shop. read more

Let me start by saying, I wasn't buying a bike here, my girl was and I was along for the ride. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful (as any retail staff should be), but they were also knowledgeable in helping fit the bike and other must knows. Some of the customers there were a bit rude, but they are probably the bikers who don't follow the rules of the road anyway, so I wouldn't expect them to follow common courtesy life rules either. If I ever end up getting a bike, I'd prob check these guys out. read more

Thank god I don't live there anymore so I don't have to find myself reluctantly stepping through their doors to get a flat fixed. I shopped for a commuter bike with an Alfine internal hub & disc breaks, & found the best value here, with the Charge Grater 3. The staff was helpful in choosing the right size for me, as that this bike was not on the floor but had to be ordered and shipped to the shop. The staff helped me choose an inexpensive rear rack. And I've popped by the store since buying the bike, and it is nice to be greeted by my name by the personable floor staff. And a year after purchase, the energetic, young blond bike tech and the other techs, in the back, are consistently so nice about fielding a mechanical question for me, demonstrating that buying a bike from this shop isn't just a one-time transaction but something they'll support me with several miles down the road, which I appreciate. read more

Boulder, CO is about as cycling-centric as you can get in the US, and there are about 30 bike shops here, many of which are excellent. Performance just cracked the top few in my book due to the great service I got on Friday night. Last Friday night, I discovered a mechanical issue that I couldn't fix myself, and I had a big ride planned for early Saturday morning. I called Performance at 8:02PM - after their business hours - looking for help. Thankfully, they said come on over. I went there, and they (mechanic Steve, in particular) were kind enough to stay after closing hours to immediately fix my mechanical issue, and did an excellent job. Steve even showed me how to do the repair so I could do it myself in the future. Thank you Performance Bicycle! You guys rock! read more

Went in shopping on Sunday, it was a horrible experience. Staff was busy but some were rude, wife needed key for the trying stuff on, asked a sales person and he said go up front and ask. We went to the 50% rack for members, wife picked through the riding shorts until she found a pair. The price was marked out. They rang it up at 60 bucks. We got out to the car and I told her the others were 100, so it should be 50 bucks, not 69. We went back in and asked the sales person why so much, he said it doesn't have a yellow dot on it, so no disconnect. Rude. The sign does not say anything about that. I'm taking them back on Tuesday. I will no longer shop there. Very misleading and rude staff. read more

Absolutely awful experience. I ordered an in-stock bike helmet on May 4, using the ship-to-store option that is comparable to ship-to-home in legitimate businesses (e.g. REI). The helmet supposedly shipped to the Boulder store on May 6 by FedEx, but it still had not arrived by May 29 (or at least I had never been notified that it had arrived, which comes to the same thing). The FedEx shipping could not have taken more than a week, though Performance never bothered to send me a tracking number, which means that the Boulder store has now taken more than three weeks to open the box and let me know that the helmet has arrived. Obviously, I would not recommend that anyone try to buy anything from this operation, which should not even be in business. read more
