I loved the food at St John's! This is a fine dining restaurant and I definitely enjoyed the flavors here! To start with, they gave a complimentary bread basket with two breads. My favorite was the potato bread. I got the scallops as an appetizer and found it to be really tasty! It had a fruity taste to it. For my entree, the pork belly fried rice, I loved that as well and I found the pork to be amazing. Sat at the bar area hoping to get a window seat however we ended up meeting a couple from Boston and decided to stay at the bar and had dinner there, the bartender was very friendly and answered any questions and gave suggestions, I definitely will recommend this nice beautifully decorated restaurant!!! read more

Second NYE dinner ( fixed dinner )food excellent but this year service was abysmal. So disappointed took 2.5 hours to eat Server ( Tomi) spent. 90.% of time chatting up couple at corner table. We sat with dirty plates and no water for an eternity waiting on his return. At last a member of our party rose and approached him asking if we needed to contact another server. He immediately rushed over and began clearing table at end of night issued us a handwritten note of apology with a Starburst candy from his home country -Croatia!? We visited the new St John's location for the first time for our anniversary. I was very impressed this time! The bread was different, which was a little bit sad, but it was still good. I got a filet and ordered it medium. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. The mashed potatoes were also amazing. My plate was perfectly clean at the end of the night! My husband chose the duck and he also really enjoyed his meal. We also each got a cocktail, but they were okay not fabulous. I liked mine which was something fruity I think with ginger beer in it. Overall we were really quite happy with our meal. If it wasn't so expensive I'd want to eat here all the time! It's a really great place for a special occasion. read more

Once again, we planned a little anniversary weekend away, to Chattanooga, TN We enjoyed another 5 dinner at St. John's. Our menu was personalized for our anniversary, and chef sent out a "bite" as a special treat. We are never disappointed. Every course was an explosion of flavors as Chef worked his magic in the kitchen! Shannon was a good server. He was Very knowledgable and explained in detail, each course we were interested in. Shannon explained from the beginning, that the symphony was playing this night and they would be needing to move more quickly through dinner to turn the tables. We understood, but felt very rushed between courses. Definitely a first time experience at one of our favorite restaurants. Service was excellent, per usual. Lovely ambience, and the staff, was as warm and welcoming as always. House made Pappardelle with mushrooms, truffle brown butter and sherry cream sauce was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted! Had my best meal in Chattanooga here. It's a lovely two-story room in a triangle shape due to the way the streets come together at its intersection. The staff was right on top of everything and the courses were perfectly paced. I particularly enjoyed the elk tenderloin entree, which was seasoned and then cooked to a perfect medium rare. The entire experience was smooth from start to finish and all three courses were scrumptious and the perfect size -- there was plenty to eat, but I didn't feel absolutely stuffed at the end. If I ever find myself back in this corner of the world, dinner here will definitely be on the list. read more

To me, St. John's is the very best fine dining restaurant in Chattanooga. It never disappoints, the food selection is constantly changing, reflecting creative recipes, featuring the finest selection of unique, and seasonal ingredients. This is the approach taken from the drink selection, thru the desserts offered for each sitting. You enjoy a wonderful setting, supported by a helpful staff that can offer insightful input to each offering on the menu. As we sipped on our drink selections, we opted as usual with a "for the table" offering, a smoked trout on crackers, delicious. As we reviewed the options for the evening for both the "first courses" and "main courses", after a brief discussion with our server Caitlin, we opted to make this our version of Spanish Tapas night at St. John's, selecting all first course items. We sampled then in turn: Roasted Corn Soup, Seared Sea Scallops, Fried Green Tomatoes, Warm Beet Salad and Morel Mushroom Carbonara. While I won't offer full descriptions of each item, some of the featured ingredients included: poached Maine lobster, crawfish, duck sausage, veal sweetbreads, escargot, smoked peaches, prosciutto and pole beans. It was a culinary exstravaganza, that I concluded with a warm peach cobbler. First of all they charge you $7 to park in their parking lot.. it is enough to pay the large prices they charge but to park please!! If I did not have a client to meet I would have gone elsewhere.. got inside and the service was extremely slow.. waiter said he did not want to disturb us? How about take our order.. dinner took 2 and half hours .. way too long.. appetizer was excellent but I could only finish half of my dinner.. asked for it to be boxed and they never brought it back to the table.. eaten at St John's many times at their old location but this will be my last time at their new location.. recommend finding another restaurant!! read more

So disappointing. We were in the area for a special weekend event and were happy to find a place with a dog friendly patio for lunch. I've had this place bookmarked forever, so I was really looking forward to what I assumed would be a remarkable experience as this restaurant has consistently been ranked as one of the best of Chattanooga. After our lunch, I left confused as to how this ranked on any top 10 list. We were seated quickly, then it went downhill from there. We'd opted for an early lunch as we were participating in the event, and were happy to see only one other occupied table on the patio, which boded well for a quick meal. Our server was polite, friendly, and took our drink orders quickly. After what felt like a lengthy wait, he surfaced with our drinks so we made a point of ordering our meals. As the menu wasn't vegetarian friendly, I asked if the crawfish mac and cheese appetizer could be made without crawfish. Our waiter assured me it wouldn't be a problem. He didn't ask if I (or anyone else at the table) had an allergy, and since it's mild, I didn't bring it up because I didn't want to make a big deal out of it in front of the couple who was hosting us. I assumed, as St. John's positions itself as a high end establishment, that a request for omitting shellfish would be taken seriously. After an hour, our meals were still nowhere to be found, and while apologetic, our server didn't really have an explanation as to what happened to them. Meanwhile, two other tables around us had been seated, ordered, and eaten. When our food finally surfaced, the comments were generally "meh". The two burger eaters stated their burgers were serviceable, but fries were hard and lukewarm, and our companion who ordered a salad said it was "a salad". My mac and cheese looked good, but after inspecting some suspicious pink bits in it, I poked around and of course, there were whole crawfish throughout. After bringing this to the attention of the server, he was again apologetic and asked if I'd like something else, but at this point, we'd waited so long and we had to get back to the event, so I declined and had a protein bar in my purse. This overall could have been a 3 star situation, but for a restaurant that positions itself as a fine dining experience, I expected a manager to visit the table and demonstrate some sort of concern that I'd eaten shellfish after asking for no shellfish in my meal. This is not the server's job. No manager spoke to us after we asked for the check, so we left and won't be back. We had a much better experience the following day at a place around the corner, so it's a good thing Chattanooga has options. If you have allergies, St. John's should never be one of them because this poorly managed establishment obviously does not care. read more

I know things happen, but it just seemed that they need more place to accommodate the need. We had a 7 O'clock reservation and had to wait until 7:30. The food was decent but not anything special for the price in which they cost. We ordered the sautéed sea scallops, fried green tomatoes, a salad, and an antelope dish. The food was great from the lobster roll appetizer to the main meal. My husband had the Pickett Ranch Trout and I had the Compart Duroc Pork Chop & Smoked Pork Belly...both were absolutely phenomenal. Our server, Joy, was delightful and attentive. Recently visited St. John's and if I could give it 10 stars I would. We have visited many restaurants in the Chattanooga area and keep a list of those that we have been to and those that are pending. Only rule we have is that no matter how much we like a restaurant we DO NOT go back a second time as we keep going down the list. Reason being is that it is easy to get caught up in repeatedly going back to your favorite restaurant and getting your favorite thing on the menu. With that being said, we do have our favorites and I put St. John's at the very top. The food was delicious, service was great and ambience was top notch as well. read more

I love coming back to St Johns! It's a wonderful restaurant to celebrate special occasions. It's on the pricy side - but it's refined and it's always a pleasure to be there. The food is delicious, and they have a a great selection at the bar. I generally go for the duck - in my opinion you really can't go wrong with it (and make sure you get it medium!) This last time I got the duck, my friends got chicken, steak, and trout. They really do have a great variety - without the headache of flipping through pages and pages of a menu. For my friends birthday they printed out special menus that said happy birthday which was a very sweet touch! Also you can bring your own cake/cupcakes to the restaurant. Simply Superb Those two words describe my dining experience at St John's Restaurant. We stopped through here two weeks ago and I want to go back soon. We dined on smoked pork belly, lobster bisque, snapper, trout, and had a couple of chocolate cannoli for desert. The bartender was crushing it with the best Old Fashion I've ever had. The Weller they used might have staked the deck but the execution was spot on. The staff made us feel special and were genuinely cared about our dining experience. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at St. John's Restaurant. It was our first time dining here and the ambiance, service and menu will demand further visits. At this price point you expect upscale, but not pretentious. You expect great food and imagination in their preparation and plating. You want service that is going to be welcoming, knowledgeable and on point. St. John's hit it out of the park on all aspects. Gus served us and was just charming as he guided us through menu choices for starters, drinks, dinner and dessert. We let him know we had a curtain time of 7:30 and he paced everything just perfectly, not hurried but no lag where you are watching your time get tight. All the courses were wonderful and the Ribeye gets two thumbs up. Just exceptional. Their dessert menu is large, varied and oh, so yummy! Some of the best service I have had anywhere. The name on the receipt was Bryan D. The warm roasted beets with apple, arugula and green tomato relish was fresh tasting and delicious. The fried green tomatoes with gulf shrimp, frisée and pimento cheese was exquisite and flavorful as the coating was not too thick. My wife had the lamb which had no aftertaste and was perfectly medium rare. I normally can't stand to eat lamb but this was incredible. I had the filet and the caramelized onion butter and black pepper gravy was to die for. I have eaten steak in many high end restaurants but this steak beat them all by far!! Had an amazing Valentine's Day dinner here this year. We were sat immediately upon arrival for our reservation time. Great social distancing between tables and perfect service. We both had an app - crab cakes for me and gnocchi for my husband. The crab cakes were so yummy but I had to eat them off the bread plate cause there was too much hollandaise sauce for me. Speaking of ... the homemade bread was so yummy. For dinner I had the chicken, moist and yummy on top of gnocchi. He had the sea bass special which was also excellent. We would have given it 4.5 stars... just not worthy of a solid "5" stars. My girlfriend and I had a great night at St. John's! I'm 45 and she's 30 and when we saw the photos on their website we felt like it might be an "older" crowd... Truth is, there was a very wide age range of diners. "Young trendy and hip" isn't my description of this place... but "Well executed cuisine for a romantic couple with discerning taste" would be a better fit. The escargot was great, (there were 4) it was served over cornbread... odd, I know but it was great! We also had had the crabcakes... they weren't mind-blowing, but 2 were solid. Next we had the Shrimp and Grits and the Brussels Sprouts. Shrimp and grits were great! (Shrimp heads were included, make sure you get the goodie out of them). The Brussels were our favorites in this course... inspired, flavorful, not your standard delivery, more like a cheesy Caesar dressing idea. I had the Sea Bass for my main dish. It was an "8" on my scale. She had the mushroom gnocchi and it was the star of the night! Solid 10 (15 if the scale was higher) Apple Crisp desert was perfectly executed. We give it a 10 also. From start to finish our experience at St. John's was exceptional. We were quickly seated and decided to start our meal with scallops and the mixed greens with charred okra and dill tahini dressing. Delicious and fresh, every bite was bursting with flavor. We ordered the skirt steak and braised cheek and the halibut for our entrees. The steak, topped with chimichurri and served with horseradish mashed potatoes was outstanding! Rich in flavor, cooked to perfection. The halibut, on the other hand came out dry and the risotto underneath was starchy and not very pleasant. Our server was kind enough to switch our dish to the Roasted chicken breast and I am happy to say it was one of the best chicken dishes I have ever tried. Creamy, delicious sauce simmered with Smokey bacon and shiitake mushrooms, it was the perfect balance to the glistening chicken with crispy, salty skin.
