I loved the food at St John's! This is a fine dining restaurant and I definitely enjoyed the flavors here! To start with, they gave a complimentary bread basket with two breads. My favorite was the potato bread. I got the scallops as an appetizer and found it to be really tasty! It had a fruity taste to it. For my entree, the pork belly fried rice, I loved that as well and I found the pork to be amazing. I got a side of fries and I really enjoyed that as well, but the fries was heavier than other fries I'm usually used to.

We visited the new St John's location for the first time for our anniversary. I was very impressed this time! The bread was different, which was a little bit sad, but it was still good. I got a filet and ordered it medium. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. The mashed potatoes were also amazing. My plate was perfectly clean at the end of the night! My husband chose the duck and he also really enjoyed his meal. We also each got a cocktail, but they were okay not fabulous. I liked mine which was something fruity I think with ginger beer in it. Overall we were really quite happy with our meal. If it wasn't so expensive I'd want to eat here all the time! It's a really great place for a special occasion.

Went here for our Anniversary dinner. And coming from the Gulf Coast was surprised by the cook on the scallops. They seared the outside perfectly but the inside was raw. The main dishes were great! Cooked to perfection. Especially the filet enjoyed it very much.

Once again, we planned a little anniversary weekend away, to Chattanooga, TN We enjoyed another 5 dinner at St. John's. Our menu was personalized for our anniversary, and chef sent out a "bite" as a special treat. We are never disappointed. Every course was an explosion of flavors as Chef worked his magic in the kitchen! Shannon was a good server. He was Very knowledgable and explained in detail, each course we were interested in. Shannon explained from the beginning, that the symphony was playing this night and they would be needing to move more quickly through dinner to turn the tables. We understood, but felt very rushed between courses. Definitely a first time experience at one of our favorite restaurants. Service was excellent, per usual. Lovely ambience, and the staff, was as warm and welcoming as always. House made Pappardelle with mushrooms, truffle brown butter and sherry cream sauce was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted! Crab cakes, best ever. Apple butternut squash soup with Maine lobster was incredible. Osso Bucco over risotto amazing! New York strip perfection! We will ask next time we make a resy, if there is a time limit and we will need to hurry through dinner. It was still a fab dinner!

Had my best meal in Chattanooga here. It's a lovely two-story room in a triangle shape due to the way the streets come together at its intersection. The staff was right on top of everything and the courses were perfectly paced. I particularly enjoyed the elk tenderloin entree, which was seasoned and then cooked to a perfect medium rare. The entire experience was smooth from start to finish and all three courses were scrumptious and the perfect size -- there was plenty to eat, but I didn't feel absolutely stuffed at the end. If I ever find myself back in this corner of the world, dinner here will definitely be on the list.

To me, St. John's is the very best fine dining restaurant in Chattanooga. It never disappoints, the food selection is constantly changing, reflecting creative recipes, featuring the finest selection of unique, and seasonal ingredients. This is the approach taken from the drink selection, thru the desserts offered for each sitting. You enjoy a wonderful setting, supported by a helpful staff that can offer insightful input to each offering on the menu. As we sipped on our drink selections, we opted as usual with a "for the table" offering, a smoked trout on crackers, delicious. As we reviewed the options for the evening for both the "first courses" and "main courses", after a brief discussion with our server Caitlin, we opted to make this our version of Spanish Tapas night at St. John's, selecting all first course items. We sampled then in turn: Roasted Corn Soup, Seared Sea Scallops, Fried Green Tomatoes, Warm Beet Salad and Morel Mushroom Carbonara. While I won't offer full descriptions of each item, some of the featured ingredients included: poached Maine lobster, crawfish, duck sausage, veal sweetbreads, escargot, smoked peaches, prosciutto and pole beans. It was a culinary exstravaganza, that I concluded with a warm peach cobbler. We were so pleased we opted taking this approach to eating as opposed to a first course, along with a main course for the range of culinary delights to which we exposed our taste buds was simply, beyond belief.

Ask the Community - St John's Restaurant

Do allow patrons to bring there own special wine?

    Yes! They do!

    Is there a dress code?

No they do not have any official dress code. It's a pricier place so most people go dressed business casual or on the nicer side. But they certainly won't turn you away for being dressed casually.

    Is there a dress code?

Definitely not blue jeans and tennis shoes. Very very smart casual. This is an upscale establishment and we always dress appropriately ( no blue jeans).

Sadly, as an individual customer, that was not my experience on a Thursday night. I arrived a little before 7pm and I was warmly greeted by Drew. I told her I was excited to dine here, specifically in the bar, based on reviewers comments. Her friendliness and positive attitude assured me I made the right decision. However, the bar area was not as inviting or welcoming as the evening progressed. My bartender was cordial and asked if I wanted a cocktail. I asked if this place makes a good Cosmopolitan. He said "Do you like it tart or sweet?" (Never been asked that before, but I appreciated the question.) I said "tart" and he made me the BEST Cosmopolitan I've had in a while! It was served half in a glass and the rest in a small decanter surrounded in a glass of ice. Great presentation and even better drink! Just a touch of pink and nice and strong. 5 star start! Then, it went downhill. I ordered the Wedge Salad ($9) and the Seared Scallops ($18), both under the "Starters, Small Plates" section. Both were very good, with excellent presentation. I should have realized the "Small Plates" would only provide a few scallops (3), but they were very well prepared and quite good. After I ordered and the food was provided, little customer service was given thereafter. I had to ask for water refills twice. (When I finally asked for my check, I got a refill without asking.) During this time, only one other customer was in the bar. The two bartenders were talking to another employee about a streaming finale one recently watched. Eventually, the second bartender came onto my side and I asked if I could order one more item from him since my bartender never came back. (The first bartender was Josh, which I discovered when I got the bill receipt.) The other bartender took my order for the Pot Roast Nachos (as I still somewhat hungry) and the Nachos were absolutely fantastic, just like the reviews recommended. At 8pm, I left as I was the only patron left in the bar (I wonder why?) and they were cleaning up even though closing was still an hour away. The bill for two cocktails and the food mentioned above came to $77. Then, $13 was added for Tennessee state/county tax and also liquor/wine tax!!! Was my meal and service worth $100, not really. As I left, I saw the personable Drew and she asked me how the evening went. I explained and she apologized that it did not meet my expectations. I said I just think I came on an off night. However, maybe she should tell management that if only one customer is left at the bar, you should treat them with the attention and respect as anyone who came in earlier. I don't feel I received the service I deserved for the price I paid so sadly, I can only provide a review based on this one time experience.

People left upstairs and went back down due to the lack of service. Again, not our guys fault. Seems they may be a little short staffed today. Half moon cheese sticks were cooked very good. My wife had the tenders and sidewinder fries. Both were really good. I tried both as well. Breeding on the tenders was crunchy but not overly cooked. Sidewinder fries are a definite must try. They are like steak fries but curly. Just the right blend of potato and crunch. Also tried some local brewery beer. It was called Odd story golden ale. Fresh with no bitter bite to it. Not hoppy but clean finish. A pleasant surprise. I added photos of everything we tried today! Watching the chefs work their magic while enjoying Oyster Happy Hour was dinner and a show all in one. I sampled seven oysters from seven different regions, and my favorite raw oyster was the Cold Creek from Washington. It was clean, briny, and perfectly balanced. As much as I enjoyed the raw oysters, the true star of the evening was the Hearth Roasted Oyster. Buttery, silky, and kissed with just a hint of citrus, they were absolutely unforgettable. The Smoked Grouper Rillette was a pleasant surprise. Rich and smoky, it was elevated by bread-and-butter pickles that added a Southern touch and cut through the richness beautifully. The saltines were classic, but the twice-baked crackers brought an extra layer of crunch that I loved. The King Salmon Crudo was incredibly refreshing. The salmon had a delicate sweetness that paired perfectly with the fresh vegetables, while the serrano peppers added just enough heat to keep every bite interesting. Even the vegetables impressed me. The baby carrots were perfectly tender, and the chimichurri's bright acidity balanced the creamy richness of the toum. For my entrée, I ordered the Gramigna, which was fantastic. The sauce was packed with flavorful andouille sausage from a local butcher and finished with delicious Tomme de Lafayette cheese. Comfort food with a refined touch. To top it all off, the team surprised me with a strawberry gelato for my birthday, which was such a thoughtful gesture. The entire staff had amazing energy and worked together like a well-oiled machine. Sitting at the oyster bar gave me a front-row seat to the action, and my hands cramped just thinking about how many oysters they shucked throughout the evening. The aromas coming from the kitchen were intoxicating. The atmosphere was bright and welcoming, with large windows overlooking the covered patio. At one point, I even spotted a horse-drawn carriage taking a couple on a romantic ride outside, which felt like something out of a movie. The upbeat soundtrack kept the vibe lively, and the extensive bar menu offered plenty of creative cocktails and mocktails. A special thank you to Chef Ben, who took great care of me and even poured my aguachile tableside so I could capture it for a video. Chef Emery and Chef Skylar were also fantastic.
