I am loving this food truck round up every Wednesday at Michelson and Teller. They have a great variety of food trucks, including the popular ones like Lime Truck and Seabirds. I was going to go to the Viking Truck and then I stopped immediately when I saw chili fries. I love chili fries more than the average person and they are my absolute weakness. Their regular chili fries are amazing. They are loaded with chili (tri tip - heck yeah!), sour cream, green onions and just the right amount of cheese. The service is very quick and friendly, which is always a plus. Luckily, their line wasn't long so I was in and out of there fairly quickly. Another bonus is their first timers Yelp checkin. I like their fries! They're crispy, hot and have enough salt. The only downside is you pay more than what you get. I tried all their different fries (carne asada - meh, too saucy, the other 3 - santa fe, irish, pulled pork, are good). Portion is not too small not too big. I got their pulled pork fries again today. The pork was tender and juicy. Fries were crispy. Had some chipotle sauce, cheese and tomatoes. It filled me up! Overall, food is not bad. My last Food Truck review was almost 2 months ago!? Well, I was back at Los Al DinDinaGoGo, & it's about a new OC truck called Spudrunners, which serves fries, baked potatoes, 2 soups, & grilled cheese sandwiches. And from an AVID fan of French Fries my $5 Santa Fe Spud without the Cilantro Lime Chicken ($1 extra) was unexpectedly damn delicious! The potato piece alone was well-seasoned w/o emphasizing more on sodium side, crisp on the outside, & almost perfectly starchy on the inside. Cheddar cheese blend was, you guessed it, cheesy; & minced veggies on top were fresh, including the good, flavorsome green chiles. Finally, the Chipotle Ranch on the side (which I happily f'in prefer, & the guy poured that by default) gave a decent oomph of its emblematic ranch + chipotle essence. And was my filling dish spicy, if you wondered--nope, not at all, you sensitive tongue, you :P. It may not be that original for what it costs, but it wasn't so bad as a vegetarian dish (which resulted in me getting something full of protein at Lime Truck ^_^). Plus, I had a short & sweet chat w/ a couple of ladies sitting w/ me, & from their POV their Chili Cheese Fries were really good, the Grilled Cheese [her] Way was alright (she didn't try Grilled Cheese Truck, btw), & the Spud Bowl [soup] was chunky & yummy. Another french fry truck? NAY!! It's a spud truck and that has made all the difference. Spudrunners doesn't just offer delicious french fries but more importantly they sell loaded baked potatoes (and chili for some reason). I like baked potatoes but Maama LOVES baked potatoes. It made me excited that I could bring her to the Din Din and she would really like something. We both ordered the loaded baked potatoes. Hers just had bacon and cheese. Mine had everything (sour cream on the side for the Tedmeister). The wait was super short and the staff was polite. *side note: my friend's chili and grilled cheese looked extremely yummy* Potatoes cooked to perfection; not too soft, not too hard and not too starchy. What more could a girl ask for. Since I'm watching my figure I pawned most of my tater off on Ted but it was still super good. Next time I'm going to consider some chili. Ordered a pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich and irish fries. The grilled cheese was pretty good and there was a good amount of pulled pork in it. Unfortunately, the irish fries weren't cooked. Not just cold, the fries were still raw on the inside. I ended up throwing the fries away. It does seem like they have problems with their fries based on other reviews I've seen on here. Although, I was impressed that the fries didn't get really soggy in a matter of minutes. I finished it all, but my friends didn't care for their food. This is one of the food trucks that comes on Chapman's campus on a weekly basis. Since they prided themselves on good French fries and great grilled cheese sandwiches, I decided to give them a try one day. The truck was run by 2 men: one who took the orders then gave them to customers and the other who cooked the food. By the time I came up to the truck's order window around 12:15, they were out of most of their gourmet dipping sauces - a bit disappointing for a truck that is on campus from 10:30 AM-3 PM. I ordered a grilled cheese with a 1/2 pound of french fries and their Pesto Aioli sauce. The overall wait took less than 4-5 minutes. The grilled cheese was crisp on the outer edges and soft and gooey inside, which is perfect in my book. The fries were crispy on the edges and were seasoned lightly with a salt-pepper-herb blend. The sauce was too bitter to enjoy and did not have enough pesto flavor in it. Service was quick and polite but I wish they had prepared for the crowd of students in advance since they were out of many of their gourmet dipping sauces before noon. Or, I wish they had posted a notice on their chalkboard that listed the sauces available that day at that moment. read more

You carboliscious truck, I present to you my 4-1/2 stars. Hubby, 8yo, and I headed to the Flavorful Fridays Meetup this fine 111111 day, and being a holiday (for most people), there were only 5 food trucks - Spudrunners, Dos Chinos, Bacon Mania, Lime Truck, and Shortstop BBQ. Shortstop BBQ was already closed up by the time we got there around 1:30. It must have been a slow day. Spudrunners' special was the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich or fries for $9, which was tempting, but my cheapiness kicked in and I opted for the Pesto Chicken sandwich for $7. The nice gentleman who took my order suggested making it into a combo that included fries and lemonade for $10 all together. Shoot, for more food, I happily paid that extra $3! I got the blackberry lemonade and the sun-dried tomato basil dipping sauce for my fries. Woot. Hubby ended up getting the Philly Cheese Steak fries with the garlic roasted onion dipping sauce. Woot woot. My 8yo got bacon balls from Bacon Mania. No woot (she didn't give me any). The Pesto Chicken was oh-so-toasty-crunchy-good. The grilled sourdough bread already scored points from the get-go (it's sourdough, aiight?), and the fresh tomatoes and spinach balanced out the richness of the cheese and aioli. The chicken wasn't overly seasoned too. Yum. Yum. The sun-dried tomato basil dip was good, but the garlic roasted onion dip was more flavorful (if you have to go back to work, you'd probably want to think twice about getting that one though...garlic + onion). The Philly Cheese Steak fries were good too, but I probably would've liked the sandwich version (oh well, hubby paid). The combo itself was a lot of food, so it can easily be shared between 2 girls. Not enough for 2 dudes though. I knocked off a 1/2 star because the fries were a bit salty for me, but that's just me since I'm sensitive to salt, and I will happily bring my BP monitor along for another round of Spudrunners. read more

Spudrunners is a gourmet food truck that specializes in - you guessed it - potatoes! Their menu consists of french fries served various ways, baked potatoes, potato soups, and surprisingly, grilled cheese sandwiches and chili. I'm not a baked potato person, so I tried the pesto chicken sandwich. Grilled chicken, brie cheese, tomato, pesto basil aioli and spinach on sourdough. I didn't have to wait in a line and my food was done within 5 minutes. This was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! I wasn't expecting it to be so delicious but I was VERY pleasantly surprised. It was juicy, flavorful and melted in my mouth. Next time I'm trying the Santa Fe fries and the blackberry lemonade, but I have a feeling I'll keep returning to the pesto chicken sandwich. One bad thing about my experience - the sandwich was supposed to come with spinach (that made me feel a little less guilty about the lack of healthy-ness) but they were all out. Don't get me wrong, it was still amazing without the spinach, I just wished they had had some. Another reason they got 4 stars instead of 5? Their prices are higher than what's posted on their website. I went while they were parked at Cal State Fullerton, and I had looked at their menu online beforehand. They were working a festival at my child's school. My husband was ordering food when he asked, "can you add a water to that too bud?" The cashier responded with yeah BUD with a lot of attitude. My husband didn't have any attitude when asking. After he ordered, my husband thought about the interaction and verified the attitude that we heard from the cashier. He shortly went back and politely asked for a refund and to cancel his order. The cashier asked why, and my husband responded that he didn't feel appreciated as a customer. My husband received his refund and went to the neighboring food truck. While in line at the other food truck, the cashier from Spudrunners came up and confronted my husband saying that "this is a children's function and you didn't have to cuss and be disrespectful in front of the children." My husband did no such thing. The fact that this cashier couldn't take feedback on his customer service THEN proceeded to make a scene and confront my husband in front of others was uncalled for and embarrassing. He then angrily yelled out at my husband from the window of the food truck after we privately told our friends what actually happened. The cashier was angry and entirely immature. I was initially going to skip this truck since I wasn't in the mood for fries or a baked potato. I'm glad I actually paused to look at the menu. The have fires, potatoes and sandwiches, but not you mamma's grilled cheese, some really interesting items. Although I wasn't interested in fries, the tri-tip chili fries called my name. I asked for the chili on the side because I wanted to try one of the many dipping sauces - they were keen to oblige. They put the chili in a cup, and I had tons left over to eat solo. All in all the fries were pretty good. The chili was probably a bit tomatoey as a stand-alone bowl (for my taste). It was very good however, and equally, very fresh. I had the roasted garlic dipping sauce, and it was great with the fries. Next time, I think I am going to try the Chipotle Chicke grilled cheese sandwich. I've had fully loaded spuds as big as my face for less than $9 lol.... but I had no choice it was Wonder Con weekend and all the lines to the food trucks were long! I ordered a medium russet potato quartered into wedges with a scoop of sour cream, sprinkles of bacon bits, green onion, and side of cheese sauce. It would have made more sense if it was topped with a protein or include a drink with my order. But I get it. I understand it cost a lot to run a food truck. But I would not want to spend 14-15 on single potato and a cola for basic food you can find at a cafeteria for less. read more

I usually stay away from food trucks because the food typically is mediocre and it's overpriced, not to mention I usually have to scramble to find a place to sit and eat. Check, check, check on all three of those above points with Spudrunners. Purely comparing Spudrunners to other food trucks it's still on the mediocre end. I tried Spudrunners for the first time last Sunday at the Great Park Farmer's Market, I think this truck only shows up for the Antique event on the first Sunday of every month. Since I was going to the movies later in the day and was planning on eating there, I allowed Laina and Jess select the food. Jess came back with the Irish Fries from Spudrunners with the Baconaise Sauce. The fries were really good, the sauce was great and there was a good amount of cheese on the fries. I could have used more bacon on the fries, but otherwise they were really good. I would definitely grab food here again, maybe a potato next time. read more

Although I already had lunch, the Spudrunners truck was sitting peacefully just few steps from the office, so I couldn't resist and checked it out. Unlike some of the other french fry trucks, they also sell other stuff like grilled cheese sandwiches and soups. Plus, the pictures of running spuds running away from the chef gave me a chuckle. The first thing I asked was, what's the best selling item? The guy helping me was cool, he said pretty much everything sells. He said the Sante Fe fries is good. It looked tempting, but since I was already pretty full from lunch, I decided to just go with a regular 3/4 lb order of fries with the garlic onion dipping sauce (I mentioned the cilantro lime sauce and he threw that in for free, sshhh). I thought that the fries were pretty tasty, nice and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. It wasn't oily, greasy, or soggy. I like how they toss the fries with some seasoning and chopped parsley to give it an added "gourmet" dimension. The sauces were good, and sort of reminded me of the dizzying array of sauces offered at Pommes Frites in NYC. $4 for the fries is on the high side, but they are of the thick-cut variety and good for a quick snack. read more

Over all it was going to be a 3.5, but there's some rounding up to 4 stars because the fries were mighty tasty and very much on the creative side. Excellent all around. The chili cheese spuds were fantastic. What with a good portion of tri-tip chili, a nice bundle of cheese and sour cream. It was basic but very good in the department of comfort food. Unlike the grilled cheese truck, this truck doesn't have a massively long and annoying wait behind it. So you can really get all those great tasting grilled cheese in a pretty quick turn around. I can't help but suggest the Grilled Brie. It's so tasty and delicious. Though I'm a big brie fan, so that's a little part of me in there. This truck also has fresh lemonade, which does go well with the food. You can even get blackberry or strawberry versions of it. It's like Hot dog on a stick without the silly uniform... or dogs on sticks. It's not very often that you come across a food truck that does a full spud, but hey, if you're in the mood for that and not the fried variety of potatoes, then this truck will get you pleased. I was really hesitant on trying this truck. Not a huge fan of thick fries but this one does a good job of it. The fries here are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I went with the santa fe fries. It was filled with tomatoes , caramelized onions, cilantro, a pink dipping sauce, and chicken. The tomatoes didn't need to be in it and the chicken was a little dry. The fries itself were really good and I finished it all. This itself should make you full. It's a pretty big portion. I actually ordered the Pesto Chicken grilled cheese sandwich - it comes with white breast meat, brie, spinach, and tomatoes, with a pesto basil aioli and is quite good! I unfortunately was just not a fan of their french fries, although the dipping sauces were not bad. The strawberry lemonade tasted pretty watered down, however, and I only made it through half of that. In between any of my 14 classes at Fullerton (I'm a quadruple major. ALPHA BABY.) I usually walk past this truck and it's flamboyant little brother, Barcelona on the Gay. I was hungry and actually had the budget to overpay for some food truck cuisine, so I chose Spudrunners. I ordered the Santa Fe Fries without the chicken for 6 bucks flat - service was prompt and friendly. Fries came out and looked delicious - I love how these food trucks focus on presentation even when the food they are selling isn't something that requires it. Fries came out in a very handy container (seen in the pictures) with tomatoes, green chile, and cheese piled on top - the chipotle ranch that comes with the fries was on the side, which is a good idea. These are the type of fries that you probably need to eat with a fork. They are "fat" fries but have a great texture - not soggy like I personally have come to expect from fat fries. Good crispy texture on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Seasoning salt on the fries is a nice bonus. If you go to Fullerton this truck is very convenient - it along with Barcelona and the Gastrodome are the most expensive food places on campus but when your other choices are the fucking Green Burrito you might want to consider Spudrunners. read more

The BF has an unhealthy obsession with french fries and HAD to get something from this truck. They were at the Irvine Great Park Farmer's Market on Sunday. Tried the Irish fries. Cheddar, green onions & bacon on fries with a large selection of dipping sauces. Sounded promising... Really nothing special. Fries were larger than Mickey D's but smaller than a steak fry. Had some seasoned salt on them, & we're pretty sure they were microwaved to melt the cheese. Bacon was crispy and delicious but otherwise pretty average, felt like I could have made them myself. Not work the $5.75 price tag. We opted for the cheddar jalapeno sauce which was like nacho cheese with some diced jalapenos mixed in. Good, but again nothing special. Had this tonight and it did not live up to the hype. Got the pesto chicken sandwich. For the money, very small chicken breast. The brie was good and the pesto had good flavor. But I just could not get in board with what little chickem I got. The lemonade is amazing though. We got 2 different flavors snd both very tasty. The Irish Nachos were also good. The wasabi ranch was a little weak on the wasabi. I prefer my sinuses to clear and it only had a hint of wasabi. Not bad overall, but only 3 stars due to high cost versus value. read more

When I heard about Spudrunners, I was unimpressed. Another food truck that specializes in potato products? Snooze. But then we tried it out when they were at the Great Park Farmers Market and these fries were actually quite delicious with a nice ratio of crispy to soft (or outside to inside). The plain french fries are also lightly seasoned with more than just salt, so conceivably, you could have them without any kind of toppings or specialty sauce, which is how we had it. I wish there were more vegan options, but that's a rather specialized niche so I don't really fault them for not offering much in that arena. Compared to some of the other french fry trucks I've tried (not that I'm naming names), this is probably the best one in my opinion. The portions are quite sizeable and well worth the price tag. In fact, since we had gotten a couple other items from other trucks that day, we ended up sharing this and we still couldn't finish all of it. read more

Since i've tried almost every other truck that comes to these Wednesday lunch gatherings, I thought I would order something at this place. After debating between the chipotle chicken grilled cheese sandwich and the Irish spud fries, I went with the fries. They sounded very similar to the cheddar fries at Islands, and when they came out they even looked about the same - bacon, cheddar cheese, chives, and a side of ranch. The first few bites were okay, but after a few fries I started drinking tons of water because they were way too salty and had too much seasoning on them. The french fries themselves weren't quite as good as the ones from Islands either, so I guess compared to their cheddar fries I thought Spudrunners was a bit of a disappointment. Failed my test of "loaded fries"...where you should have at least enough toppings to get you through 75% of your fries. There sort of felt like a weird balance in a sense I felt like I was tasting significantly more tomatoes and dressing than fries and chicken. The staff is very sunny and friendly, especially considering I was ordering near close. Chili Cheese Fries: Pretty big portion, but did not like the chili at all, it tasted like it came out of a can and it was kind of watery to me. The tri-tip were cut into cubes and it was big, but I wasn't really feeling it. It was flavorless and the fries where cut to big, it was like steak fries. Wouldn't get this again. Tonight the Spudrunners truck was parked by my apartment building, and even though I'd already eaten dinner and wasn't even remotely hungry, I'm quite the gluttonous swine and couldn't resist trying it out. I had the Santa Fe fries, without chicken - Cheddar Cheese Blend, Cilantro, Fire Roasted Green Chile, Red Onion, Tomato, and Chipotle Ranch dipping sauce. I'm sure the fact that I was even hungry didn't help, but they were just eh, okay. There wasn't enough cheese, and the dipping sauce lacked any real flavour. When I ordered, I assumed they'd have a tasty bite to them, but there was no heat at all.
