There was a Croutons on UCSD's campus about 11 years ago and when they got rid of it, I was gutted! I thought I lost my go-to spot for good, fresh salads, sandwiches, and ultimate favorite soup! WRONG! I moved back up to LA/OC county and realized they have a location in Irvine! I missed it so much. Their chicken wild rice soup is beyond great and so delicious! And their brownie bites are just to die for. The service was very nice, even handling a lunch rush in Irvine's busy business area. It's located in a center with other food options, and it looks to have plenty chairs and tables for seating.

Closed doors and no one working inside during the hours of operation.

I visited Croutons on two different occasions during their posted business hours (as listed online), and both times the place was closed earlier than the stated closing time without any notice. This is really inconvenient and disappointing, especially when planning lunch/dinner around their listed hours. It would be great if the management could update their hours accurately or communicate any early closures so customers aren't left showing up to a closed restaurant. Not to mention both times I drove a distance to dine there.

Croutons is a solid lunch option if you are in the John Wayne airport area. The restaurant offers a variety of different salads and also sandwiches. I have never ordered a sandwich here as I have always come for the salads. A couple of my favorite salads are the barbecue chicken salad and the Cobb salad. They are very good portioned. I sometimes have one salad for both lunch and dinner. The barbecued chicken in particular is very tasty and has good flavor. The Cobb salad is just loaded with toppings. Their dressings are also good. The restaurant could get very busy so if you want to order ahead, that is a good idea. Easy parking. Good service. Casual and indoor and outdoor seating is available. Please come and create your own adventure.

Yuck. Has the premium tuna sandwich was not good at all. The tuna had an off smell. Reported to the counter and did not ask other questions or an offer to refund my 13.00 sandwich. They may need help here with customer service.

It's so good and light. Never disappoints. Salad is always fresh and the salad dressing is generous.

Located in the Hmart plaza in Portola ~ between Culver Dr and Irvine Blvd, Blueberry Social takes up a decent-sized space, right smack in the middle of the plaza. It's one of those places where you walk up to the counter, order your food & go find a seat to have it delivered. Thankfully, there is plenty of indoor & outdoor seating to choose from, but depending on the time that you dine, I can see how it can get quite crowded. Service is quick & efficient and the staff was friendly ~ providing food & drink recs, since everything looked good and it's hard to decide. The menu is American comfort food w/ a modern twist. The vibe is casual and I love the aesthetically pleasing decor (esp. the cute pinkish suede couches/bench tables inside) ~ it's quite contemporary & calming. The food? Super yums! Everything was very fresh and tasty. It actually felt worth the type (which is rare lol). The portions were solid, and the presentation was definitely IG-worthy..go check out my pics & see for yourself. I've personally been here a couple of times ~ either with friends, w/ the hubs, and/or with my fam, but I always gravitate to ordering the same dish..the SoCal loko moko ($19). Everything..from the island style garlic rice, roasted mushroom onion, brown gravy, angus loco beef patty, Kona mac, and sunny side up golden yolk eggs is just perfection. I've honestly never had a loko moko before (even tho I've been to Hawaii many of times), but I'm sooo glad that THIS was my first, cuz now the bar is set and I have high standards to compare to, moving forward. I just love everything about it..so so YUMS! OMG..get it w/ the blueberry crumble latte and you will die with smile. I swear that coffee is sooo addicting. Who knew blueberry crumble would pair well with coffee, but it does and I'm hooked. 10/10 would come back for another brunch + coffee moment. RxFoodie recommend!!!

The side salad that accompanied the plates was a fresh, tasty touch that I really enjoyed. For my drink, I went with a Matcha with oat milk--while you can't control the sweetness level here, it was still a very enjoyable cup. There is indoor and outdoor seating - we sat outside and enjoyed the greenery. That being said, there were two specific areas where I think they could improve, especially given the premium price point ($18 for the Tamago and $15 for the Pork): * The "Soft" Boiled Egg: The Tamago sandwich is supposed to feature a soft-boiled egg, but mine was definitely hard-boiled. It was a bit of a miss on the execution for an $18 sandwich. * Service Timing: The Pork sandwich arrived well before the Tamago. Since the Pork is a warm sandwich, I had to choose between eating ahead of my party or letting the food get cold while waiting 5 minutes for the second plate. It would be great to see better coordination so all mains arrive together. Bottom line: The flavors are definitely there and the quality is high. I'd certainly come back to try more of the menu, though perhaps as an occasional treat rather than a regular spot.

The matcha is a bit expensive, but it is rich, earthy and creamy - you can definitely taste the quality. (I run here when they have occasional matcha discounts) Other honorable mentions include the teriyaki pork sandwich and cold brew coffee - which I think is from Mameya. Beware that it gets insanely busy during the lunch hour, even on random weekdays. The online ordering system and baked goods pre-order is extremely helpful, since the pastries often get sold out before noon.
