Croutons is a popular spot that lots of workers in the area including my coworkers go to for lunch. My coworkers usually ordered the tomato soup, buffalo chicken salad, or barbeque chicken sandwich. Buffalo chicken salad includes romaine with diced chicken breast, zesty buffalo sauce, celery, carrots, and cornbread croutons. I choose ranch to pair with this salad, but the option of blue cheese is available. Prior to this place, I've never had a buffalo chicken salad before. But I liked the idea and enjoyed it overall. The greens were fresh and well balanced. The buffalo sauce is pretty good and not too spicy. The cornbread croutons were sweet and paired well with the salad. Overall, a pretty nice spot for lunch. I was introduced to this place by my old boss and i loved it. Their chicken and wild rice soup is a must try and their sandwiches/wraps as well. I popped into Croutons for a quick lunch before an appointment and I was incredibly impressed with my meal. I ordered a Chicken Caesar salad from the very friendly staff and before I knew it, my meal was ready to go. My meal was about $12 but the portion and amount of chicken was an amazing value. In addition, the dressing was tasty and chicken was perfect. Also, the restaurant was miraculously clean really helping set a cozy ambiance. This place is easy to find off a main street. The strip mall has plenty of parking,therefore easy access to enter this establishment. Above all, upon entering I found it clean, spacious,and most importantly friendly customer service. Lunch crowd had subsided, and the owner was quick to take our order. Went as far as to speak Spanish to accommodate one of my colleagues in her order. That was generous and very unexpected. The food was delightful and perfect for me,1 cup of potatoes with broccoli soup. My colleagues shared a salad that had pears,feta cheese,and walnuts. I've been here a few times already with some coworkers and I always enjoy their food. It's your typical food on the go place where you follow an assembly line and you tell them what you want and they place the order in the back. If you want soup, its scooped out in the front. I have tried their tomato soup, BBQ chicken salad, pear and blue cheese salad, and the southwest sandwich. They were all really good and I didn't feel bad eating it. We both got the Chicken Pesto Sandwich and the Sundance Salad Combo ($9.00). Chicken Pesto Sandwich was juicy, not overly cheesy and heavy on the pesto mayo, a little greasy but overall solid quality sandwich. The Sundance Salad was refreshing and had a good balance of spring mix, cranberries, avocado, almonds, and feta cheese. Dressing on the side was similar to a red wine vinaigrette, they give you a huge container so only used half of it. Portion size is reasonable for the price! I love the wild rice chicken soup and the Granny Smith chicken salad sandwich. I've had it as a flatini and as a lettuce wrap. So delicious! This week, I ordered lunch for my team of six. LOCATION: Croutons is located in a small community of food restaurants (poke, sushi, Starbucks, etc). Parking can be tricky if you come during lunch; I just recommend you park far away. There is actually seating inside but in this SoCal weather, you'll want to sit outside in the ample patio seating. SERVICE: Friendly! The lady at the cash register honored my free drink with my check-in :) And gave me an extra brownie when I ordered for only one. FOOD: The brownies are delish! My fav salad is the Sundance. I had the mixed berry salad. These are usually hit or miss whenever you get one, depending on where you go. Well this place was definitely a hit with me. The salad was very fresh tasting. The berries were fresh and lots of flavor. I was surprised by the quality of blue cheese chunks topping the salad. Me and my wife shared a chicken margherita sandwich. Older lady, a cashier, who usually has a bright red nose and cheeks seemed to be having a rough day. She lashed out at me at 10:50 am while the store was empty. When ordering at the register I asked her to charge me for 2 sides of cornbread croutons but she obviously didn't hear me because she came back with 2 bags of herbs croutons. I politely asked her "Can I please have cornbread croutons instead?" to which she replied, "Next time you need to let me know while placing your order at the register". She replied in a loud and nasty tone then proceeded to ask the cooks to swap the herb croutons for cornbread croutons while blaming her mistake on me. Keep in mind that I speak spanish so I was able to understand what she was telling them. She got mad at me when she was the one who didn't take my order properly to begin with. read more

I've tried the Southwestern salad, Asian chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad, tomato soup, chicken panini, and roast beef sandwich. They are fairly generous portions. You can opt for a 2-item combo for a half sandwich, cup of soup, or half salad. The food is good and they've been pretty good at getting our orders correct. Tried Croutons for the first time yesterday and all I've got to say is if you are looking for a great sandwich/salad cafe this is not it. If anything it is a casual restaurant in the center of one of the busiest (right next to John Wanye Airport) Irvine Districts. I visited around 12:30 pm (not the ideal time to go) and of course during the lunch traffic there was a lot of people in line. The wait was about 10 minutes and I ordered the two combos for $8.95 the Chicken Pesto Panini and their classic Caesar Salad. I dined and my food arrived within 15 minutes. Also the place is small, they did have enough seats but it is because most of their customers are desk jockeys and order their food to go. Their salads are fresh which is great but come on you can't mess up a salad. The panini was alright and even though the portions are large the chicken was seasoned well but dry between two toasted sourdough. Which I might ass was not a very pleasant experience once I bit into it. As well as there was barely any pesto inside the sandwich. The price for the portion size is probably the only thing I like most about Croutons.Their sandwiches and salads are priced around $8.00 which you can't go wrong when grabbing a quick bite to eat on the go. Whether it be for your work lunch or before your trip to Airport or just a casual dining afternoon. Overall 3/5 stars based on experience, price, and taste of their food. ---------------------- Update: Came here after 1:00 pm (the most ideal time) it was not busy. So many places in this center. Felt like salad so I chose this but I was in a hurry catching a flight. The menu is large. So many salad choices. What I noted was half salads were available. As I approached the order taker I saw there were 3 choices for salad wraps. Egg , tuna, chicken. Chose the egg salad and so happy I did. I also ordered the cup of tomato basil. Made it a combo and it was about $9. No complaints. Egg salad had great taste. Nice red pepper slices and red onion. Lovely Bibb lettuce. Really nice portion. The soup was good.
