Our usual go to Chinese spot was closed today, so we opted to try a new place (that had pretty decent reviews, mind you): Spring House Chinese Restaurant. And as much as I hate to be negative of a local place during these hard times, especially since I know so many places are struggling, I gotta say how disappointed I was in my first experience here. . . First, the good parts: The food arrived hot and well packaged, plus nothing was forgotten or missed. Now, the not so good parts: The quantities were very small for the incredibly high price that was paid, and on that high price note, the food was just mediocre. The fried rice actually tasted a little bit stale, and the all veggie dish was basically just steamed cabbages as there were barely any other veggies (broccoli, carrots, etc.) mixed in which was a big bummer. . . Everything that was ordered was there, plus nothing was made incorrectly, so there's not really anything to be fixed. I was just very surprised at the small quantity and the meh taste of the food for the high price that was paid. This was the first time we've ever ordered from here and unfortunately, this will likely be the last time as well. read more

I got my food after a large group got theirs, and the large group ordered after I ordered. When I asked for an explanation for it, they told me some nonsense. After I pointed out that they are telling me nonsense, they told me "if you are not satisfied just don't come back again". Before this I went there almost everyday for lunch. Usually go here to order the duck egg noodle soup, but this time I wanted to try something new. I tried the creamy egg and beef baked rice and it was pretty good. But it's a huge portion, probably fit to share with 3-4 people and I feel they put too much soy sauce so it was salty. Unless you prefer a saltier taste then this dish is perfect for you! read more

My favorite of the chinese restaurants in the block away from campus. Spring house is relatively new and is the only one that boasts roast duck and live fish as well as an assortment of handmade chinese puddings, and desserts. They also have milk tea and avocado smoothies. I brought my mom here and we had a fantastic meal. Me and the Roomie have also gotten a whole fish steamed for us (ahmazing but so expensive). I generally stop by when I'm craving duck (duck noodle soup yum). They do a great sizzling tofu hot pot and some really good soups. The eggplant is also amazing. It's definitely the better than both maple garden or east meets west, the ingredients are really fresh and they boast a super authentic menu. Love it, so glad it openeddd!!! read more

Don't even think about it. We got takeout from Spring House twice over a two-year period since our favorite Chinese restaurant, Jade Palace, closed when the family who owned it retired. Never again. Horrible chow mein with soggy noodles and tons of gravy (since when does chow mein have gravy?). Sweet and sour chicken with--you guessed it--soggy instead of crisp breaded chicken that had been sitting in sauce for too long. Pork fried rice that was nearly charred because it had probably been sitting in some heating unit for who knows how long. In fact the entire meal tasted as if it had been sitting in a hot oven for a couple of hours. Apparently "fresh" is a word this place has never heard of. read more

I really don't get why people write not so great reviews about this restaurant. There's not a ton of excellent Chinese restaurants in this town, and if you need Chinese you really need to try this place. I see pretty much the same owners/workers there, SO polite, nice, friendly, really wanting to do their best. They're fast unless there's a ton of orders in the queue. Great ingredients, hand chopped. Their bbq pork is better than any where I've been and I think they do it themselves. Huge menu. I suppose some people would complain the chow me in is oily, it's probably supposed to be that way, and it's not terrible; it's tasty! read more

I give them a 4.5/5 stars overall. They definitely stand as one of the better Chinese restaurants in the Eugene area. Situated between a Thai restaurant and hair salon, this place is easy to miss, but the lively interior takes you away from the busy streets just outside. The counter has photos of most dishes on their menu, but luckily they have paper on-hand menus to fully look over the extensive list. My party ended up splitting an order of crap puffs, lunch special of roast duck and BBQ pork fried rice, and a plate of Singapore noodles with beef. Everything was quite good. The crap puffs, while a bit overdone, had a delightful filling and good side of sweet and sour sauce. The duck was wonderful; roasted with the bone and skin still on and sitting in a small pool of its juices. It was cooked perfectly and made even better with a given side of (maybe) spicy plum sauce. The pork fried rice was quite good as well, with an abundant amount of great grilled pork. Combined with some of the run-off from the neighboring duck, and it made for a good mix. The Singapore noodles were a tasty gathering of slighty curry flavored noodles with an assortment of grilled veggies and beef. It was difficult not to wolf it down in public. Overall, the staff was wonderful and the food was a hit. This easily makes for one of the best of its kind for the area. read more

I love this place. It has a friendly staff, good prices, generous portions and authentic food. We are regulars here and I have never been disappointed. The creamy, egg, beef fried rice is my personal favorite. Though at this point I have has almost everything on the menu. I have a buddy who comes in almost every week. I'm always glad to find authentic Chinese restaurants in Eugene, and particularly one that specializes in Cantonese food, because there are so few. I ordered their BBQ pork and pan-fried noodles, which were both delicious. Their prices are slightly higher, but portions are large. The noodles were easily enough food for three. This place is awesome. They give you a MASSIVE amount of food, and a very authentic menu. The owners cook the food, and older Chinese man and his wife, and they are both very kind. Their staff are great as well. The food has a very genuine and "home style" quality to it. Many Chinese students eat here, so take that as a sign of authenticity. Often you may see slabs of pork or roasted duck hanging from a hook by the kitchen window. Their menu is enormous, and almost all of their lunch specials are great. I've eaten here about 40 times (since I'm always on campus, this is one of my top picks). My recommended dishes: 1. Singapore Noodles 2. Fujian Chow Mei Fun 3. Twice Cooked Pork 4. Hong Kong Pork Fried Rice There are many other interesting dishes as well, so check this place out. read more

Got take out. The food was very low quality. I couldn't even finish it. I got the general tsos chicken was mostly just salty instead of having flavor and there was barely any meat. It was mostly connective tissues. And there was random stuff in the soup it was in like noodles and unidentifiable things. The fried rice was also kinda scary like that. Mediocre food. Got a dinner combo with crab puffs, pork fried rice, and general tsao's chicken. Crab puffs had a weird fishy off taste to it, like they were expired. Rice was bland and tasteless. Chicken was ok. Portion sizes are large and it's pretty cheap but it's not worth it imo. Will not be returning back. read more

This place is pretty small, but they do have several outdoor tables. What amazed me was their food; they are truly authentic Chinese dishes and fresh. Also, you can find many rare Chinese dishes on their menu. Love their beef noodle soup, very tasty. One of the worst Chinese meals I've ever had, except the salt and pepper ribs. The garlic eggplant had the same brown cornstarch googoo sauce as the king pao chicken. The fried noodle were inoffensive in their flavorless. We ordered extra to our hotel to have as leftovers on the road but sadly will leave it in the trash. Those four dishes cost $87 delivered through DoorDash. Hey do you make such terrible food. read more

Chief clientele for this restaurant obviously is students. The set up is minimal, but clean. You ordered the food and pick up your utensils, and pour yourself some water, or buy a soft drink from them. Then the food are delivered to your table. There are doggy bags available. The food is very descent, and mainly Cantonese (they do BBQ meat there), but their Szechuan beef is very good also! I will definitely go, or more likely to order from them to enjoy the food comfortably in my own home! read more

My husband and I LOVE this restaurant! We don't live in Eugene but when we are in town, we generally go to Spring House! The wanton soup is my FAVORITE. It's a very simple soup which I think is the most appealing to me. If I lived in Eugene, I would get this soup all the time, especially when I am feeling under the weather. Had quite a bad experience recently with a takeaway order, they don't give you utensils, and won't even bother to ask, I only got to know after I had walked half a mile away only to walk back, and the food box was leaking. read more

This place was so great! The staff is so incredibly nice. The parking is ok. The chairs and tables aren't very comfortable but once the food gets in front of you, you don't care. The food came out SO quickly and everything was delicious. Apart from the crab puffs which were kind of cold and not that tasty which was unfortunate. But everything else was really great. This was extremely disgusting. The food was super greasy, inedibly greasy. The chicken fried rice and sweet and sour chicken were soggy and mushy. I paid over $100 for dinner for a family of 5. More than 3/4 went into the garbage. No idea where the 4 stars are coming from. I would never recommend this place, nor will I eat here again. My favorite Chinese Restaurant in Eugene. My go to meals: Singapore Noodles - heaping amount of wok-fired spicy curried noodles, with bbq pork. The quality of any of their items coming out of the wok is tops. General Tsao's - Is it authentic Chinese? I have no idea, but it's not the standard over-breaded, mushy/dry chicken from most restaurants. The breading is not over-done but crispy, inside is always hot and moist. The sauce is especially rich in flavor, and they give just enough extra to drape over your fried rice (why are you getting the steamed rice?) BBQ Duck Noodle Soup - big bowl of soup warms you right up. It's bone in, so watch out, but that makes it more fun, yup. Well priced. They have a very large menu. Come around at lunch, and see what other people are ordering, you might find something interesting! I don't know if every item on their menu is a home run, but having been there so many times I know that if the main chef is putting it together, it will be cooked properly. Probably one of my fave Chinese restaurants in town. They mostly do southern Chinese style food, particularly Cantonese style. I recommend any of their duck dishes!
