Visiting from the Bay Area again, I was craving some legit Chinese food. The last time I ate here there was so enjoyable, I wanted to return to fix my craving. Despite the passage of time from my last visit, the food is still consistently good. It was nice to see and hear other patrons speaking Cantonese, it felt like home. We ordered the shrimp curry, Mongolian beef & spicy eggplant. Of the 3 dishes, our favorites were the shrimp curry and the Mongolian beef. The spicy eggplant in garlic sauce, in my opinion, overly sauced and not spicy at all, despite the spicy asterisk and least enjoyable. Overall, it was still a pleasant dining experience and it felt almost like home. I would recommend it for good Hong Kong style Chinese food. Can't go wrong! Note: They never removed the signage offering durian smoothies--I asked again this visit & they said that's an old sign and they don't offer it any longer.

4.5 stars for effort...........Sadly only 3.5 stars for execution........so 4 stars. Eugene has plenty of Szechuan Chinese restaurants which are very good, but authentic Cantonese style Chinese food is harder to find. Spring House attempts to make dishes that you'd find in metro areas that have chinatowns. We had 4 standard Cantonese dishes (beef chow fun, Singapore curry rice noodles, stewed beef noodle soup, & salt & pepper squid) so we could judge how "authentic" they could cook. While the components were there, besides the squid which was scrumptious, something was slightly amiss for the other dishes. The chow fun lacked the "faw hay", the Singapore noodle was too salty, and the noodles in the beef stew (good & tender) wasn't "right." It's a counter serve type place where you get your own water, utensils, etc. And the prices were fair as was the quantity of food. The staff were friendly & helpful, though don't expect a "fine dining" experience. For Eugene, this might be as close as you can get to authentic Chinatown style cooking so it's worth a try and maybe you might like it.

Update: Alright it's a 5/5. We ordered more Cantonese dishes and explored a bit more, and everything has been delicious. The service is so nice, and always helpful. Thinking of the beef and egg dish makes me drool. Pork belly is always a staple. Fried rice - incredible.

We were stoked to try this Cantonese restaurant in the U of O area. Maybe it's legit, but everything was way too salty. The beef brisket noodle soup was definitely not correct. The flavor of the meat was off and it wasn't tender. The noodle texture was not bouncy. The service was awesome, though. The guy who took my order was super friendly. I think I will need to keep looking for a good Cantonese place around here.

Lunch - Pork fried rice with baked eggs. Delightful!

Right at the Campus of U of O! I've been mourning the loss of Spring Garden restaurant on Main at Pioneer Parkway in Springfield since the doors were closed. I wore sack cloth and ashes. I sat on the floor and wept bitter tears. Silly me, they moved to Spring HOUSE! Found this out and had to go. Parking is somewhat limited in the area, but you can buy time on the street in the convenient boxes that suck money from your credit/debit card. An hour cost me $2.00! (It's over $20.00 an hour in San Francisco, so who's complaining?) They have a great menu, and I will be returning to sample more as I can. THIS is a great place for a person dining alone. You get a very reasonable plate of very good food for a very reasonable price. I chose Creamy egg and Pork baked rice. Stupendous! Delicious! Great taste, texture and quantity. The ambience is, in a word, missing. There are a ton of pictures of the dishes on the walls. You get to serve yourself for flatware and/or chopsticks, ice water and napkins. Now go find a table and sit down. Mom and Pop who run the place speak good English, and are great hosts. The lunch menu is well done, with lots of options. I look forward to eating my way through it in the next half decade.

Steamed Chicken is a must try! It's really really delicious and good! You can never have such a smooth and soft and unforgettable chicken taste if you don't try this!

Inside. They take a long time to bus tables, so almost all of the tables had dirty plates/cups.

Had a road trip from LA to Seattle,I passed by this beautiful little town name Eugene today and…read moredecided to try this Chinese restaurant. It's a place that specializes in wheaten food and noodles. Looking at the menu, I noticed a wide variety of options with complex preparation methods. For example, the dough used for regular dumplings is completely different from the dough used for shrimp dumplings (har gow). Shrimp dumplings require wheat starch (cheng mian), which must be kneaded and shaped with water around 70°C (158°F) to form properly. The entire process is incredibly labor-intensive and truly tests the chef's skill level. Ambiance & Environment: You can tell this restaurant has been open for a long time, yet it remains very clean. There is a glass-enclosed prep area where you can watch the staff making the dough and noodles from scratch, which perfectly showcases their specialty. However, I was seated right next to the back door. Since customers have to use this door to access the restrooms, people were constantly walking in and out. The draft was quite strong, causing my food to cool down very quickly. I highly recommend installing a folding screen there. I also overheard other guests asking to switch seats for the same reason, so this is definitely an area management needs to work on. The Food: Since I was dining alone, I only ordered two dishes, but overall, the food deserved high praise: Griddle Cooked Beef (Gan Guo Beef): A classic Sichuan dish. The beef slices were large, the side ingredients were plentiful, and they definitely didn't skimp on the seasoning. It had a rich, robust aroma of spices that burst in your mouth. Delicious! Beef Dumplings: Easily the best dumplings I have ever had on the entire West Coast. The wrappers were thin, the filling was generous, and they were incredibly juicy--literally bursting with flavor with every bite. Highly recommended! Service: Absolutely non-existent! About five minutes after all my food arrived, while I was right in the middle of eating, a server just dropped the bill on my table. I was completely baffled. It wasn't until I pointed out that I still needed rice that they finally took the bill back. Once I finished my meal, I asked for the check. The server gave absolutely no response. Seeing a long line of people waiting outside, I proactively asked a second time because I didn't want to hold up their business. To my surprise, the staff member snapped at me impatiently, saying, "I heard you, I have to go over there to get your bill." It was genuinely infuriating. Good foods. No services

The staff member on the phone assured us it would be fine. However, when we arrived, we were seated and allowed to place our order. Only after we had already ordered did the same staff member inform us that the restaurant only allows service dogs and that we would need to remove our dog. This was extremely frustrating, as we had called in advance specifically to avoid this situation. If this was truly their policy, it should have been clearly communicated over the phone or at least before seating us--not after we had already committed to ordering food. As for the food, it was average and nothing memorable. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed the entire experience. We will not be returning.

I always find that Asian food hits the spot when I'm really hungry, so I looked online for a place that "the locals" rated highly and I came across "Jade Dumpling and Noodles" on Willamette. We ordered 3 different kinds of dumplings, shrimp, pork and a spicy pork and they were All Delicious! These "soup dumplings" were small and bite sized but were packed with huge savory flavors! They are made right there and are amazing! I myself had the mixed noodles. House made noodles with beef, chicken, shrimp and vegetables, stir fried in a delicious lite sauce, that enhanced the flavors of the dish, without overpowering it. You could taste all the ingredients and they were fresh and delicious! I cleaned the plate and now I can't wait to return to Jade Dumplings and Noodles again and try their other dishes, that I know will be tasty! The staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive.
