I checked out Hole in the Wall BBQ and was seriously impressed. You never quite know what you're going to get with a new BBQ spot, but this place delivered. The brisket burnt ends were on point--easily the best I've had. The smoked clam chowder was also outstanding, and honestly the best clam chowder I've come across anywhere. We went back the next day, but the burnt ends and chowder are only served on certain days. I ended up getting the fried okra and a brisket sandwich. The okra was cooked perfectly, and the brisket sandwich was so tender it didn't even need a knife. Pro tip: ask for your brisket "extra juicy." The staff was great. Mary brought us their house-made honey mustard, and it was incredible--we ended up dipping both our fries and okra in it. One of the cooks even came out to talk with us, which was a nice touch. Found this little place while out shopping & LOVED it! The lunch crowd was small mid-week. The waitress was very welcoming & we quickly grabbed onto the Special, BBQ rib sandwich with thin onion rings - SO good! Just the perfect amount of BBQ sauce, they offer additional sauce on the side but I didn't feel it was needed. My husband had their BBQ chicken club w/mac & cheese-he finished every last bite. Hole in the Wall has been in busy for 32 years. It's one of the best BBQ places in town with all of the food being homemade. It has a warm welcoming with a homey feel when you enter with a very hospitable host. I had a side of onion rings, not to be biased but they were probably the best I've ever had. I got the pulled pork platter the pork was juicy and tasted melted in your mouth with side of dill potato salad and coleslaw the dill potato salad was good perfect amount of potato and dill. We stopped by this place while craving BBQ and boy was it worth ruining my diet for. I got the smoked brisket plate with fries, mac and cheese, and a sweet corn muffin, and my partner got the BBQ chicken sandwich special with mac and cheese. The sauces that they have in a bottle are really good, the sweet one was my favorite as I'm not able to have spicy food due to being hypersensitive to it. We got there right when they opened so there was hardly anyone there. The server greeted us and got us a table immediately, and she took our orders and brought our food out quickly. The place was clean and felt like a typical BBQ place. The parking lot is a good size, and I see it completely full during peak hours. There are plenty of other places to park nearby if it is ever full when you go, though. I definitely recommend this place and will be going back. read more

My bbq taste buds were ever so delighted after a visit to this quality BBQ establishment. After analyzing why only 3.5 stars average, I found it is because people are not ordering their specialty. I had the St. Louis half rack and a side of brisket juicy style. My goodness this brisket is flavored so delicately with subtle smoke flavor and rub was perfectly savory. Tenderness throughout the lean and fatty parts of the slices is evidence of slow consistent smoking in a well controlled smoker. The ribs did come apart clean as you would expect and the flavor penetrated beautifully through the light pink smoked meat. The home made original bbq sauce was excellent but I didn't want to put too much because the brisket and ribs had an amazing flavor on their own. I was completely fatisfied. Service was good old fashioned friendly. Parking is ample. Try the Apple crisp with ice cream if you have room. It's buttery delicious as well. read more

We've been going to this place for years. Their food has never disappointed. Unfortunately since the pandemic, they've had to downsize their staff and hours. If you want to eat here, it's best to get there before 6, as it now closes at 7. In my opinion, they have the best pulled pork, ribs, and roasted chicken. They have a good variety of awesome bbq sauces, and if you want a sauce with more kick, they have it on request. Their staff is super friendly, and accommodating. As a side, there is a larger Hole In The Wall in Springfield, which we've never been to, as the W11th place is very close to home. If you're looking for yummy bbq, this is the place to go! I got Long-Horn salad; WOW... the only thing that seemed fresh was the Lettuce, the Carrots seemed dry and came out of a bag, delivered to me on a big flat plate! A PLATE? Really? The Pulled-Pork here was also Dry... and FLAVORLESS!???? How is this even possible? I tried to eat it but it was difficult to make sense of the "Plate" of Salad before me. It felt as if it came out of a salad bag from the store. I asked the waitress about the flavor.... she said they Didn't Flavor the MEAT!?!??! :O I don't Know about You but when I hear Bar-B-Q, I think of Slathered Sauce on everything and Grill marks, etc... We ordered the following: ~3 different fruit CRISPS: Apple crisp: apple sauce from a can and some mushy, tasteless topping. berry & peach are similar but with their respective canned fruit and mushy toppings. ~3 French dip sandwiches: Dry buns, dry sandwich. ~2 Pulled pork sandwiches: dry bun, dry sandwich. ~2 Onion rings: everyone eating them loved them. ~2 French Fries: Not bad. ~2 Chicken Cobb salads: They had a defrosted mush of processed avocado that was disgusting and really low they didn't use real avocados. ~Pint of Green Beans: I could have saved my money and opened a can of the at home. ~Cornbread: Certainly NOT homemade; it was crumbly & dry, old & stale. ~3 Lbs. of Pulled Pork: Excellent. For calibration, we have lived in central and south Texas off and on for 30 years so we have tasted some amazing BBQ. We have been quite disappointed in PNW meats. But HITHW is good! The brisket is soft and juicy. The pulled pork is good. Sides are good - coleslaw, green beans. Generous meat portions. Fair prices. It is not Texas small town BBQ one-for-one but it is good bbq. HITW prepared brisket and pulled pork for our wedding. It was wonderful. Our wedding was on Monday (Hallowe'en), a day they're normally closed. I honestly was a little bit hesitant to try this food based off the reviews! However, when I went inside it was a little shocking to see how good the service was, the food came out in less than 5 minutes, and the food was made deliciously! The lady who served our table was very nice and attentive. She came by a perfect amount of time and didn't treat us like an inconvenience like I saw another review say. The food was super good! I loved the pulled pork! If you come by, you should definitely try out the sweet baked beans. In all honesty the mac and cheese was not the grandest but the main dish is the meat! Regarding all the other reviews, I think it's just a little too much pessimism. We live in Eugene, not in Texas! I think it's nice that the restaurant has a Texas accent to it to give you a different type of feel compared to what we normally have. If your claim is that it's the best in Eugene but give it two stars then you're not rating right. Warm friendly welcoming service. They do serve dinner, but close at 7 pm. On a Friday that kind of surprised me, but they know what their hours should be better than I do. I do not like barbecue, but my other half does. I can usually find a sandwich or a burger that I can eat. The ribs were good, I am told. I had the French dip and found it to be slightly soggy on the bottom as it had sat in spilled au jus before coming out to me. It was kind of overpriced for what I got, in my opinion. But the ribs were reasonably priced and tasted great, I was told. So, I would go back. The two meals, combined, were still reasonably priced. The fry sauce had horseradish in it, at least I think it did. Maybe people who like barbecue also like horseradish, I found it strange and just went with ketchup. This was by far the most disappointing brisket sandwich I have ever eaten. The menu it said the brisket sandwich was "sliced to order", I received something that looked more like a leftover pot roast sandwich with some barbecue sauce on it. There was no bark. None at all. Even if the meat was sliced to order then chopped to fit the bun there should still be some bark, there was none. I ate a sandwich with a very small side of potatoes that really felt like a nice lunch of leftovers, but not at all like real BBQ. Worst "brisket" sandwich I can remember paying for. The server was amazingly friendly. Had the special smoked brisket french dip, and fries. I asked for crispy fries, and they weren't really that crispy...however, they were still really tasty. I just don't think the smoked brisket was the right application for a french dip, the slices were thicker than I'd like, and a bit on the dry side (even through the Au Jus).
