The dinner was the best we've had so far this vacation. Even in Las Vegas the food and atmosphere was nothing compared to the atmosphere of this eatery. We came to The Spotted Dog restaurant for dinner on a Sunday night while visiting Zion. We were able to get seats immediately and chose outdoor seating. Both indoor and outdoor seating was available at the time we visited. The service was friendly and welcoming. My husband got the short rib, while I had the elk and bison meatloaf. I don't eat meatloaf very often, so this was a pleasant change, and I thought the meat went great with the sweet sauce. My husband liked his short rib, although I thought the quality was just good rather than amazing. Super solid choice. I had the wild game meatloaf. It was delicious and very nurturing, just what I needed after a long day in the Park. We also had cocktails, also wonderful. Omg Springdale was so crowded!!! We definitely wanted to eat outside so we were seated at a little table off the parking lot, for which the staff was apologetic but we found it charming. Loved the restaurant ambience, food and service. It caught my attention on my way out from Zion national park, it was full of lights and there were good number of customers. Since there was no network to check the rating, just thought of giving it a try with low expectations. For folks looking for parking in front of restaurant while full, do note that this is part of the lodge too and you can use the parking by the lodge. The service can be matched with white tablecloth restaurants, they're experienced. I only wish they could provide wifi to the dine in customers, since the signal is very bad in the area, both AT&T and Tmobile..but they declined to share. Anyway, all that apart, the food was great. The cocktails, the appetizers were slightly different from the other restaurants, positively. I had the southwestern chicken breast for main course , I usually am not a fan of a chunk of bland chicken meat, but the mango salsa tempted me to order it. It was scrumptious on the chicken. Had birthday dinner here after our massage next door. The restaurant had really pretty floral chandeliers. Interesting art on the wall next to us as well. We ordered the fillet special and the pear and sage stuffed pasta purses. Both were excellent. Only complaint is that the steak was more rare than medium rare. We had requested medium rare. We were too full for any dessert but I'm sure it would have been delicious. read more

We are so glad we chose this restaurant to have a dinner. It has multiple outdoor sittings with a mountain view. My husband ordered Lamb shank that was a perfection. I can't praise it enough, so highly recommended, I ordered hummus platter for my son which was again a very healthy and a delicious option for my seven year old it came with a salad and roasted whole garlic again very good. Best Seat in the House. After an amazing day at Angels Landing we were looking forward to a great dinner. Found it at Spotted Dog! Hostess greeted us like family. We like sitting at the bar and like the title, we were all set. Laura was gracious serving as bartender and walking us through the menu. We went here for dinner. What a great find !! It is close to the Zion entrance so we stopped in. The menu was fun and they had a lot of things marked GF : gluten free on the menu which was a plus. We had the sautéed mushrooms and toasted baguette to start. The mushrooms were one of the best things I've ever had, the flat bread served with it was very stale however. The toasted baguette was okay, the sauce was like a canned pasta/tomato sauce. For entrees we had the ahi tuna, shrimp pasta, and purses pasta. Everything was edible but nothing was worth finishing. The combination of ingredients with the ahi tuna didn't pair well and there were just too many different flavors. The addition of the peas and carrots seemed as though they were an afterthought. The purses pasta lacked flavor, as did the butter sauce. My husband said his shrimp pasta was just ok. Lastly, the service was equally mediocre. Not bad but also not good. Came on a summer evening after a long day at Zion National Park. Got a table right away and Kohl our server was kind and helpful. Ordered the roasted chicken and ribs which were both very good. Chicken coupled with wild rice + veggies & the ribs with potatoes and summer veggies. Good portion size for an appropriate price. Large wine menu with beer and cocktails too. Sat outside on the back patio although they do have a patio in the front. Amazing view of the mountains and good scenery on the patio. Hands-down fabulous! From the appetizer (terrific mushrooms sautéed with loads of garlic and bread for dipping), to a Spring salad (w/ blue cheese, toasted walnuts, beets, balsamic), through to Garlicky Scampi and a gorgeously braised lamb shank, topped off with a superbly gooey chocolate lava cake and a Nutty Irish! ... and did I mention the awesome service provided by our waiter, Remiro (sp?). The steak was a STEAL. 12oz New York Strip Steak for like $45?!? And it was delicious. Food is presented beautifully as well. Just a little tip, the parking is scarce and there's a rush between 7 and 8. I would recommend making a reservation. The ambiance is also very comforting. Hostess was amazing! The table she sat us at had a beautiful sunset view of the zion mountains. Our table was also really close to the host stand and I noticed she would seat people, handle reservations and answer phone calls all at the same time. A bit pricy, but it's an OK place for a hot home-style meal. We ordered three entrees which were approximately $20 each after taxes: 1. Meat Loaf - This was about the only entree I recommend out of the three. The meat loaf had good flavor and went really well with the mushroom and gravy sauce. I wasn't a huge fan of the red sweet and spicy sauce but appreciated the different flavor profile. Potatoes were cooked with the right time for good texture. 2. Spaghetti w/ Meatball - The spaghetti was just so so. The noodles were a bit under cooked, the sauce was good but not enough for a to-go order (came in a plastic container), and the garlic bread wasn't that great (we actually didn't care to finish it). The meat balls were good but it didn't save the dish. 3. Trout - Appearance was great and looked promising. After the first bite though, we were a bit let down because it truly lacked seasoning. There was barely any "wilted greens" and only 2 black berries. The rice was really good though. But again, it did not save the dish. I would not recommend. First, the positives - Our services was very friendly and helpful; The Spotted Dog was clean and bright with a small bar area was pleasant; The bathroom were nice and clean as well; The presentation was done very well; The crab cakes were a hit and so was the molten Lava Cake ... yummy. The rest of our meals weren't bad, just not as great as the reviews led me to believe. I had the duck, which was a bit over cooked and dry. The roasted chicken was dry as well. We enjoyed one entree of lamb shank with broccoli and carrots and a meatloaf entree consisting of different game meat with fingerling potatoes and vegetables. I would have preferred some potatoes added to the lamb shank meal in addition to the petite vegetable side. We added a couple of glasses of red wine and a crème brûlée to round out our meal. (Unfortunately, the crème brûlée wasn't freshly torched/warm which is how I like it). The restaurant was busy with casually dressed park visitors, some large and some small parties. The walls are covered with pictures and baskets, adding a cozy feel. The food is more 'fine dining' and the atmosphere and decor is more 'casual nice'. Staff and service were pleasant, but not overly personable. The restaurant is very close to Zion park entrance and within walking distance of the Best Western where we stayed. I have been going to Spotted Dog Restaurant for years as my best friend in Springdale one Larry McKown built it and ran it for a long time before his passing and believe me he ran " The Dog " with masterful precision it was and I believe still is the best restaurant in Springdale Utah home of Zion National Park. He taught James Wolken his young protege the right way to run a successful restaurant and James is carrying on in the tradition that Larry would live. Good food served by good people with fair prices for what you get . Many of the best have worked here over the years and I will not even try to name them for fear of leaving someone out . This place was very accommodating to my fiancés extreme allergies to gluten, dairy and more. They were able to make him a steak with a side of potatoes and said they make everything to order. His steak was slightly more done than he ordered but we were just grateful we could find a place for him or eat in the park! Service was very good. This is a great place for a farm to table upscale dinner. Wine selection is excellent as well as their cocktails. Menu has you thinking, what should I try as it all sounds unique. I had the wild game meatloaf (I know right), and it was excellent. My wife had a beet salad and added chicken as the protein. She got picky and dropped the pepperoncini and onions and they got it right. Service was excellent , food was fresh and flavored correctly as well, it was presented very pleasingly. Portions are huge, and I'll be honest, I looked around, and nobody in the place left anything on their plates. We went here twice for dinner, the atmosphere was great and the service was excellent both time. The food was good the first night but the second night the chicken breast was extremely dried. I mentioned it to our waitress and she told her manager and they not only replace it but gave us an entire new meal. But again the breast was just dry but the leg part was moist. I don't think this have anything to do with the how it is cook just the part of the chicken. But the first night the trout and the short ribs was excellent and so was the lava cake dessert. I added vanilla ice cream to it and it was perfect. I would highly recommend this place. read more

We ate here last night after a long day in the park. Absolutely fabulous! It has been a while since I experienced such a treat. Everything is on point. The service is friendly and genuine. Passionate peeps that make you feel welcome. The ambiance is homey. The food is just nothing short of delicious. It is one of those few times I would just want to go hug the chef for creating wonderfully balanced dishes that are wonderfully balanced in flavors. We had the yummy crab cakes. Then the Pesto Pasta with pine seeds and basil that was everything it should be with parmesan grated at the table to your liking. You can choose to add a protein. I chose grilled chicken. Then we tried the day special was Bison Medaillon with pine nut couscous and zucchini-squash spaghetti. See picture. I love it cooked "bleu" (rare) and let me tell you the meat was super soft and the cuisson was perfectly executed. The all natural Water Canyon Winery red wine 2023 Field blend went perfectly with our meal. Every bite of everything I ate was humming from the pleasure of experiencing the mouth wateringly deliciousness. To top it all off with desert we took the homemade cheese Cake with raspberry coulis and an Affogato (ice cream with espresso coffee). I say look no further this is the spot that will satisfy your appetite after a day hike in Zion. Love it. Love it. love it.
