truffle shuffle - i've never had lemon on a pizza before. it smelled, looked, and tasted mouthwateringly delicious. brooklyn bee - quite spicy and the hot honey was the surprise that kept me going back for more the service was friendly and efficient. pies took about 30 min to prepare so i will be calling in my order next time. there are some seats but not many. this def seems like more of a take out place with neighborhood vibes but next level taste. read more

I live about 1 mile from here. By the time I got home, it was a greasy, wet mess, especially in the center. I couldn't even cut it into a slice because the middle was such a mess. The counter person had about as much personality as a rock. No eye contact, no thank you. Just nothing. I had read about it in the local online sites. I was very disappointed, esp considering the price. read more

This came highly recommended and apparently ranks very well across the globe! However, when we went for our first time *ever* we got a totally burnt pizza! Half of the slices aren't edible. The pizza is decent and the little restaurant is quite cool, but I figured ownership would want to know about the burnt product! read more

I give this place a three for presentation. Customer Service was OK wasn't it's finest. They only make a certain style pizza only on Thursdays why not have it for all days. We're talking sourdough here so coming from A connoisseur. I come from pizza business for over 30 years. I've had their pizza many times . Have to say that their square pizza that you get slices for is way better than the pie itself. They put too much sauce on the pizza takes away the crisp. They use fresh ingredients is like mozzarella and all the sauces but once again the sauces was too much. I brought my roommate here for the first time and she only gave it a five like I said before nobody likes burnt pizza even though this is sourdough you do not have to cook it to her it looks burnt the leopard look read more

It was quick and easy. The pizza was amazing with the sourdough crust. I will definitely order again

For $25 I'm shocked. This was a delivery, FIRST TIME having this place. The reviews convinced me and I'm just.. appalled. It wasn't cut correctly, the pizza is so undercooked but the crust is over cooked? The saving grace is the sauce. I'm 10000% not convinced to try this place again. read more

New to the area and decided to try this place out based on the other favorable reviews. We struck out. First, we tried to order a half mushroom/half cheese pizza and were promptly told "We don't do that." Ok. Whatever. Put mushrooms on the whole thing. We ended up spending $60(!) for two medium pizzas. No biggie if the pizza was good but it wasn't. It was dry. I don't understand how you can do that but they did. And the sauce was bitter. My bet is that it is straight out of a can. That's fine, if that's what you like. Lastly, the crust was tough. Like clinch it in your teeth, close your eyes, turn your head, and pull hard kind of tough. Not for $60, thanks! My recommendation is to skip this place. I will not be back. read more

Ask around what people think about this place and you'll find some curiously polar opinions. Why you ask? It's just pizza right? What happened to that old, albeit cringy, adage "pizza is like sex, even when it's bad it's ok"? I'd love to give a local non-chain business a good review, or even the benefit of the doubt, but the reason for the polar opinions on this place is pretty clear. The premise and sales pitch of Speak Cheezy is that their unique sour dough crust is something special - and this is the problem. I'm really sorry to say, but this must be a mistake. See the attached photo of burnt pizza crust. And this isn't a one-off - this is just their style it seems after trying a few pizzas. The acrid taste of burnt sourdough hitting your tongue might be offset enough by what are objectively quality ingredients, above other pizzerias for sure, but the result then just fluctuates between Meh and Yuck. It's a double whammy at the upscale price they charge - hence the polar opinions. Most people aren't going to come on Yelp and give a mom'n'pop pizza place a bad review, so I'm guessing you get a bunch of reviews here that are swoon by the "idea" of sour dough crust, more than they are by the execution. Particularly after paying so much. And maybe they're just nice family and friends this early in the game. Either way, I just can't imagine the good press so far is from pizza aficionados or your average pizza eater. For the owners of this place - I think you're screwing up your dough/crust. If you've had LB's own Michael's pizza, you'll probably know their dough tends on the floppy side - also an atrocity I won't bother with, but not nearly as disappointing as burnt crust. It's a sad state for the star player in a dish to be. This is the star ingredient. Your pizza should shine without a single topping, instead it is pretty much just ashes. Now I'm not in the pizza business, but I'm no stranger to pizza dough or home made sourdough. So, just a passing along some armchair thoughts on your current practice - I think you need to adjust how much water you have in the dough given how hot your oven's bottom surface is. You seem to be relying on the color of the bubbles on the top of the crust to gauge the doneness of your pies while inadvertently burning the bottom of your crust. Of course - I'll leave it to you to decide if you think you're on to something that some people just won't understand, but honestly, I'd rather have pizza from 7/11 given the choice - and I don't like 7/11 pizza. read more

Speak Cheezy - Burnt crust - serious problems here that are being explained away as some kind of "authenticity." - Pizza Near Me - Long Beach, California

We stopped in after my grandson's basketball game. The vast menu has many options including thin crust and sourdough crust. There is also pizza sold by the slice if you're in a hurry. After about 30 minutes our pepperoni, sausage and onion pizza arrived hot out of the oven. Every single bite was a treat. I'd never had sourdough crust but it's definitely my favorite now. I'm not sure what's in their sauce but it's savory and so good! I only wish the place was bigger so the five of us didn't have to wait to sit. Otherwise, I'll be back! read more

Service was great. The LBC was good and the crust was bomb. I think we may have caught them on an off day, but the calabrian buffalo chicken wings were the worst I've ever ordered from any pizza joint. Flavorless and so soggy. read more

I've been meaning to give this place a try and finally got a chance. They were offering $5 cheese slices. To the owner's credit, they responded to my first review by asking that I give them a second chance and I did. I was visiting a friend nearby and we stopped by and the pizzas were great. We ended up doing take out since the city is giving them a hassle over the outdoor seating so there are only a few tables inside. (I know of one other restaurant in LBC having this problem). So bottom line, the pizza is great, worth coming to but its safer to do take out until they solve the seating issue. read more

I just wanted to write a review to shoutout Ed who helped my grandma and I when we came by for lunch a few weeks ago. She is staying in the rehabilitation center across the street and it was the first time she was out and having a real meal in about 3 months, so it really made my day how patient, helpful, kind and generous he was. And the pizza was great too! I had never had sourdough thick pizza like that but I enjoyed it. We got the pepperoni and carbonara flavors. One of the slices came out slightly too crispy and they were quick to make another one for us without me having to ask. Overall a high quality establishment both in food and service! read more

The hubby and I were in Long Beach enjoying a sunny day and decided we had to check out one of the highest rated restaurants in the city: Speak Cheesy. First impressions were a nice little eatery with a couple outdoor tables on the sidewalk with a dog water bowl near the door and bar seating against the inside wall with a new york pizzeria vibe. They had a convenient little parking lot in the back and we spotted a pepper plant growing, which we suspect goes into their house made hot honey and red pepper flakes. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their pizza craft just by talking to the different employees. Since this was our first visit, we went with the tried and true Pepperoni Pizza. It was delicious and everything we wanted in a pizza. Sourdough crust made in house, crispy cupping pepperoni, and a nice mix of mozzarella and parmesan cheeses that were perfectly complimented by their (you guessed it, house made!) dilly ranch and hot honey. Next time we plan on going adventurous and trying their black garlic pizza. read more

Well, after all the raves and the fact that I always want to support my local eatery joints, I finally gave this place a try. My philosophy has always been "pizza is like sex; even when it's bad, it's still pretty good". So, we ordered a Margherita to go. Brought it home, still fresh and warm. That's a win. Basil - fresh Sauce - tangy but not overpowering Mozzarella - meh, came right off the slice Crust - Not bad, but needed some Parmesan seasoning to give it more flavor. So, overall I'd give it a 7/10... maybe next time go for the cheese-lovers. read more

I've officially found my new favorite pizza spot in SoCal. I've been on a hunt for quite some time since I'm a native New Yorker and have high expectations for pizza. Speak Cheezy definitely hit the mark when it comes to flavor, nice airy dough, and unique topping combinations. My favorite pizza so far is the Brooklyn Bee (go figure lol). It packs just the right amount of slight heat and delicious meat flavor. I had family over from out of town and the loved it as well. Now I will say this pizza is on the expensive side for sure especially for the size...but I would say it's worth the splurge to satisfy an occasional pizza craving. read more

I ordered the truffle pizza and the margarita pizza... And let me tell you, this was some of the best margarita pizza I have ever had! This place has gone to shit recently. Used to be one of the best spots in Long Beach for a pie, now it's a joke They don't take cash, pies take 40+ minutes when it's slow, staff is unfriendly as fuck. Literally 0 redeeming qualities, and on top of that the quality of the pies have plummeted. What a shame that a great spot turned into a dumpster fire. If you want a crappy overpriced pie that's ready next Tuesday this is the spot for you. read more

Went for lunch with some coworkers. We each got a Sicilian slice to start and then went with a full pie to share. The staff was friendly, the shop was incredibly clean, and the food was delicious. The garlic herb goat cheese and lemon zest on the full pie was a great addition to the mushrooms. Would definitely eat her often if I lived in LBC. read more

Wanted to love this place and after giving it 3 chances, I still don't. First 2 pizzas were completely black on the bottom (friends had same experience with burnt pizzas) and didn't taste very good. After giving it a few months I went back again and the pizza was terribly tough and chewy making it hard to eat. The flavor was good but that toughness was something else. Maybe just bad luck but 3 times was enough for me. Service wasn't great either. Also very small pizzas for the price. This place is walking distance to me but I'd rather head out to little coyote or 4th horseman instead for some pie. read more

HIGH WAY ROBBERY!!!!!! Just bought two pizzas and wanted some marinara sauce to dip the crust. They were CHARGING $2 per cup (around 1 ounce)!! $6.60 FOR 3 tiny cups! Almost $7!!! I feel the pizza is good BUT the prices are gauging us pizza lovers!!! read more

The pizza is phenomenal, the bread/dough is sooo good. I've never had pizza dough like this before. I actually devour the crust, something I never do. Came here when they first opened and got the shroom pizza- delicious. Came back today and they had an all new menu, so I tried the Baby Kale pizza. Wow, so friggen good. you don't feel as guilty either because of the kale lol. Its perfect crunch to softness ratio. It's hard to eat this pizza slowly, it's that good. A little pricer than the average pizza for the size- but honestly, it's worth it. They have vegetarian, vegan and meat options. I like that the menu is simple yet the ingredients they use are pretty unique. read more

As someone who grew up in New York City literally above a pizzeria, I was skeptical of this upstart pizza company with the funny name. As we locals mourned the loss of Scratch Baked Goods, we waited impatiently for this place to open. It seemed to take owner and Chef Jason Winters forever to get his first store front up and running after a success with a gourmet pizza truck. Tonight was the night. With out of town guests to impress, we ordered the Tie-Dye pie, the Meatza, Shroomsday Button and the Bloomsdale. We had a small problem with our order, and the staff and Chef Jason's graciousness in making everything right more than made up for it. Taste: Each pizza is a symphony of gourmet flavors and ingredients, a unique take on an old favorite or something entirely new. Chef Jason has created a lineup of 13 inch masterpieces. The ever-so-slightly sourdough tang of the crust makes even the little burnt edges savory and delightful. Welcome to Belmont Heights, Jason Winters and Speak Cheezy--we locals (and friends) are glad you're here. NOTE: As we had leftovers, our out-of-town guests demanded to eat them for breakfast. No kidding. That's what they wanted. read more

Had a phenomenal pizza. The wait time surprisingly quick. The person who took my order over the phone was a little strange. The wings I ordered were the color black and tasted like fish. They were the black garlic wings. The chicken itself though was good. Just not a good flavor profile. The pizza blew away many other places in Long Beach, instantly. Will return. read more

Good pizza!!! Good location with plenty of street parking. They also sell some store merchandise (like t-shirts). The shop is a small size.

Flies were all over the pizza inside the case. Not to mention kept out at room temperature with no visible cooling/heating system.

Last night we went to Speak Cheezy on 4th St at Termino. First off, EXCELLENT customer service! We had the Shroomday Button (Oyster and Maitake Mushrooms, Leeks, truffle cheese, and mozzarella). Per their suggestion, I added the Hobbs Sausage. It was delicious sausage and we loved that pizza! We also had the Bloomsdale (garlicky bloomsdale spinach, mozzarella, pecorino, smoked ricotta, and feta salsa verde)... and YUM! And we decided to try the Garden of Farms Little Gem Caesar Salad (little gems, caesar dressing, pizza croutons, anchovies, Fiscalini Gold cheese, and soft cooked egg). Again, tasty, tasty, tasty. Speak Cheezy sure seems to use high-end products in the creation of their incredible pizzas and salads. Everything was top notch. That salad was so yummy with that incredible salad dressing and the jammy soft cooked egg. I want another one to eat with my lovely pizza leftovers. :) read more

We've been wanting to try this place for a while, and when another unnamed 4th Street pizza joint was unexpectedly closed on "Pi Day," we finally decided to give Speak Cheezy a try. We are so glad we did! They were super busy for a Thursday night, but the team handled it like champs. We got the "Sausage Neat" with two sides of Dilly Ranch. The pizza was gorgeous, and the ranch was sooo good - the perfect amount of dill, perfect consistency, yum. The cashier thanked every customer for their patience as they were a little backed up due to the rush, but she was holding down the fort. We will be back for sure! read more

The reasons I won't be back: 1) They do not accept cash. 2) The Margherita pizza tasted very good but I added extra cheese, olives and mushrooms. It would be an exaggeration to say they didn't provide a microscope with which to find these, but let's just say all the ingredients were sparse including the cheese (extra? methinks not). The pizza was cut into six normal sized slices which ended up costing me 5.75 each including tip. Simply not worth it. read more

I have been trying this place since the first day it opened. Quality is hit or miss. Came by today because it is so close to my house. Pepperoni pizza on the wall is $24. I ordered it and their system charged me 25. Then I was interested and I looked online and it's 25.50. I guess knuckleheads keep paying these guys so business is good. Looks pretty shitty when you can't get your pricing together. Read a bunch of reviews. This owner seems to be in denial. Maybe it's time to get out of the neighborhood... Lastly...the food. Seriously under cheesed, under sauced and lacked toppings. On top of that. HALF of the bottom was burned black! (See picture) If you like trendy, go here. Fool yourself into thinking it's good.
