5 stars, yes fantastic, I will get to that! Wow this was a crazy parking lot! It is a big shopping center with a lot of parking, but clearly not enough, it took me 10 minutes trying to find a spot! My only critique, this should be the kind of place that they ask if you have ever been there, because it is a bit confusing! Ice cream, in the fish waffle, fish waffle on the ice cream, with filling, with out and free toppings, I finally asked and then it all made since! The location is a bit sterile with not much seating, but I get the feeling that place gets packed! The ice cream is great, the texture is amazing. My son got peach ice cream with the fish filled with custard! He loved it, but it was so rich that he couldn't finish it. We will be back when we are in the area! read more

Our experience at the Milpitas location today was disappointing, especially compared to the Thornton, CO location. The atmosphere felt cold and uninviting, there was no table seating, and the staff wasn't very welcoming. Even the napkins had signs asking customers to limit their use. Love it as a franchise! Ice cream is so yummy and smooth and the fish snack is also good. Clean interior but no seating. However, we had a terrible experience with the service. Dropped our spoons on accident and they refused to give us replacement spoons. Very bizarre. Because of this, we couldn't finish our ice cream until it was basically all melted. Really upsetting and weird. Personally, I'd rather drive to the San Jose location if craving this. read more

This seemed like a newer storefront. I have been craving Taiyaki ever since my trip to Korea and was hesitant to try this, incase it did not hit the same or taste as fresh. But this HIT THE SPOT. It tastes so authentic and the flavors of custard and black sesame were so so good. Will be coming back to try the soft serves soon! We just got a couple of the regular taiyaki, so I'm giving this a four-star rating based on that. You order at the counter and wait while they make the little fish-shaped treats. You can watch them prep it--either filling them with sweet, creamy paste like ours, or adding ice cream and toppings. I've only tried taiyaki once before in Osaka, Japan, and these were pretty close, though the batter and cooking heat were a little different. Both flavors we got were good, no complaints there. The waffle part could've been crispier, though--it was kind of soft. Not doughy, just not crunchy enough. It takes a few minutes since they make everything fresh after you order, which is nice. There's no seating inside, but they've got a bench or two outside. I suggest a couple tables or a bar along the wall would be good. I noticed some people got the fish cones on top of ice cream, and that looked awesome. I'll probably try that next time. read more

I usually get the taiyaki, but I've never had the ice cream before. This was my first time trying their ice cream, and honestly it's pretty good! I had the cookies and cream and that was really good. Can never go wrong with somi somi. Whenever I'm in this plaza, I always stop in here for the Taiyaki and soft serve. If you're lactose intolerant, they have lactose free options which is cool! The parking lot here is crazy so be prepared to look for parking. There is no indoor seating at the location but plenty of standing room. My favorite thing to get are the Oreo and Nutella taiyaki. It's crispy on the inside with a chewy mochi texture inside and your choice of filling. My friend showed me the cheddar taiyaki and it was sooo good. Perfect if you love salty and sweet. Adding that into my rotation forsure. For soft serve, I love the cookies and cream. They recently added an earl gray tea and it was delicious. The tea flavor is strong but it also has a nice sweetness to it. I think the soft serve flavors rotate so it might be different every time you go. read more

I'm really glad there is a Somi Somi close to me when I use to travel all the way to Valley Fair to get it. [[ Location ]] It's in the Milpitas Square Plaza with a lot of other good food places in the area. There's also Claw MEEE next door in case you want to extend your outing and have more fun. Parking should be plentiful since the plaza is so big but you may have to walk further if it's busy. [[ Store ]] It's a big store but there is no seating inside. They have two benches outdoors in the walkway area which I guess is okay but it can get crowded and cramped. I would highly prefer if they put some chairs/tables inside as well. (Minus 1 star) [[ Service ]] Friendly staff and good service. I REALLY appreciate that the standard tipping range at the machine is reasonable starting at 8%, 10%, and 12%. I guess it can go lower than that but I appreciate it doesn't start at 15%, 20%, and 25%. I'm more inclined to tip this way. [[ Wrap up ]] Other than that, the soft serve is amazing with good flavor, not too strong in sweetness, and a thick texture. I went to SOMISOMI in Valley Fair and glad that it opened near my hometown here at Milpitas especially when it has its own location rather than being a vendor from a mall or bigger place. Although that there are no seats inside, it looks nice on how it's designed. This place serves Taiyaki and ice cream. I really love their selections of ice cream flavors and fillings for the Taiyaki. Really tastes good especially from the ice cream since I love milk tea so much. They can add toppings to your ice cream, but decided not to since it kinda takes away the flavor of the ice cream. Came here after dinner to try the new sweet corn flavor. I ended up getting the sweet corn and cookies and cream swirl which made it taste delicious. The sweet corn taste can get too "one-dimensional" after a few bites so I'd recommend getting it with toppings or as a swirl with another flavor. The service was fast. Mainly young people working there and given they've newly opened, things were moving along fast so props to them. There are water cups and water near the entrance to help yourself with. Located on the far right side of the plaza near Fantasia! I came here during their grand opening weekend for the sweet corn flavor. It was so good! So glad it's available at all locations now. Employees were super friendly and it felt like going to any other somisomi location Milk tea & sweet corn swirl wasn't as good, it was too milk tea heavy and a little sweet for my taste.
