We were hankering for dessert after a seafood dinner in Milpitas. Café 86 looked enticing after a quick Yelp search. Easy parking on a Friday night in this small commercial complex. The shop had a few tables for fours and twos but we managed to snag the sofa with the low table for our party of 5. The shop was clean and adorned with Filipino themed decor. We ordered via the self-order kiosk then waited for our orders. The Upside Down Halo Halo was what I was looking forward to. In hindsight, I should've gotten the ube ice cream upgrade as that would've made this dessert taste a 110%. The desserts we got were the Ube Leche Flan Cupcake and Ube Crack Cheesecake. These desserts were just as impressive. Soft and flavorful without being too indulgent. You can really taste the quality in every bite. Absolutely loved everything from our first visit at Café 86! The drinks were also delicious, rich and creamy without being overly sweet. This is a decent destination for Filipino desserts, gloriously overloaded with ube. Came here to study as it was close to where I live and it was nice. I ordered the Ube Matcha and I really loved how I could taste the Ube flavor. It was unique in a way that it was a paste more than a syrup and the Matcha was rich, so it blended well together. I do think it was on the sweeter side so was the Thai tea that we got. But the Thai tea was only $3.50 so that was really worth it, and it was bigger. The place is cozy. There is a there's a couch and some tables. I would still come back to try the other desserts and pastries that they have they look really good! read more

I loved the mais con yelo. It was sweet, refreshing, and exactly what I needed to cool down on a hot, humid afternoon. My parents and I also took advantage of the buy-one-get-one-free deal on July 4th, and we were thrilled with both the quantity and the quality of the drinks. A friend told me about this little bakery. It was new to me, but found out they had other Bay Area locations and I saw a YOUTUBE blogger said they actually started in Southern California. My friend recommended the Ube butter bars and also mentioned desserts with an Ube forward names. But they also had other items like Filipino halo halo etc. Staff was friendly and accommodating and basically you walk in and you order from a tablet and then dessert is brought to the front and bagged. Very simple concept it allows people to come in and come out quickly. The last I had Cafe 86 was when I was in So-Cal and that was many years ago and I had forgotten about this chain until recently. We ordered the ube tres leches, flan with ube cupcake, and turon poptart. The ube tres leches was almost perfection aside from the icing tasting chalky. The flan was great but the cupcake was dense. The turon poptart was amazing. It was slightly busy and we had already waited nearly half an hour for our to-go order. Prices will be based on their website Got the ube monster milkshake w boba 24 oz ($9.5) Which was an additional +1.05. There were def some ube flavors and I think it worked well w the Oreos inside. The boba was decently chewy but a bit bland. However, it was pricy for this drink and especially when I got an allergy reaction to it. I didn't drink or eat anything else since consuming this particular drink at 2 pm and now it's 8 pm, got some minor hives (allergy). I am allergic to un-fresh seafood, dust, food coloring, some animal fur... but this is odd. If the Ube is fresh w no additive or food coloring, it should not have affected me... thus. I am deeply questioning the quality of the drink and the high prices. The Ube crinkles ($4.5) was slightly disappointing. As u can see it was small but good to taste. Despite the red flag of the extreme purple Ube drink, I tried it since this shop is well known for its Ube food and drink. Plus, Ube is naturally very purple. Came here cause I was wanting halo halo and it was just average. We ordered in the self kiosk but it took 30 mins to get our order. Those who ordered after us got their order first. Limited seating but if there's big groups it can get loud. As far as the halo halo, I miss the traditional one. The corn flakes replace the pinipig which was ok. The pandan flavors hits I would order this drink again. The Ube milk tea unfortunately was overwhelmed by the lychee jelly. Next time I would get it without add one. The Ube crinkle cookie was good, but had very little Ube flavor. The mais con yelo bar is a milk corn bar. It was interesting, good butter crust with a cream corn custard. A lot of corn flavor came through. There was only one person working the kitchen but she still got our order out pretty quickly. We came in while the cafe was empty so we got lucky. It's been a while since I've been to a Cafe 86, but with one now close to home, we were excited to go check it out because who doesn't love dessert! They have a person to take your order and also a "self service" ordering kiosk. We chose to order from the register. (FYI - they are a cashless place.). First item to choose is the upside down halo halo comprised of beans, jack fruits, boba, frosted flakes and top it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and second item on the list is the Thai tea monster milkshake thick creamy with bits of oreo toppings. Bro's famous drink for its richness flavor creamy with a delightful taste. Timing wasn't so bad as we were the only customers and wait time was very short. The food was good, but it took SO LONG to come out! We walked in shortly before 1pm on a weekday for a quick lunch snack. Little did we know, it'd take 45 minutes for us to get our order, with only two small parties in front of us. (And they really only got three drinks and a snack between them.) Upon walking in, the pastry display case was completely empty except for one slice of ube tres leches cake. It had a sign from a few days ago saying they were completely sold out, and separate sticky notes saying "sold out" on the glass - but they'd only just opened 1.5 hours prior. We asked the only staff member there, who looked like he was busy prepping a drink, and he stated that he had pastries, but didn't go into details about what he had or why the display case said they were sold out. He didn't tell us how to order or ask if we needed help, so we stood around awkwardly for a few minutes before deciding to use the self-service kiosk (I always prefer ordering with staff so that I can ask about items and allergens, especially if it's my first time there.) We ordered a couple drinks and a couple of food items, then sat down to wait. After about 15 minutes, the other parties had been served. Another 15 after that, the employee gave us our two drinks, but said the food was still being made. We didn't get our food for *another* 15 minutes. I've never been to a cafe where it's taken 15 minutes to make 2 items. If we'd been warned about the wait, we probably would have gone somewhere else. The drinks were mid. I got the strawberry calamansi, which tasted artificial, like gummy bears, and not like fresh strawberry or calamansi. The freeze-dried strawberries in it fully rehydrated by the time we got our food. The food was tasty, but totally not worth an unexpected 45-minute wait. We got a churrochi and an ube pop tart. The pop tart apparently took the employee 20 seconds to heat up, but was served last - I really don't know why he didn't multitask. The churrochi was pictured on the self-serve kiosk with ube ice cream, but was served without it. When I asked where the ice cream was, the employee said it was an additional charge (an extra $3.25, which is crazy on top of a $6.50 charge for a small dessert). Apparently, the item description on the kiosk cut off right before the disclaimer that the ice cream was sold separately, and the option on the item for "no ice cream" wasn't actually an option, but the default. There were options to add ice cream, but given the ice cream pictured and the lack of a complete item description, we'd assumed they were options for extra scoops, not that we had to piecemeal together our own dessert if we wanted it as pictured. Overall, a super disappointing and wild experience. I entered hungry and left incredibly annoyed. Not worth the visit, even if the food was fun and tasty. read more

They were kinda like cake pops, soft and moist on the inside with oreo crumbs all over the outside. Fantastic cafe with friendly people. The desserts are amazing the sampler with the ube flan, cheesecake. Truffle, ube shortbread is outstanding not too sweet and not overwhelming. Finally a place besides seafood City where it's not crowded. Finally the 3.00 calamnsi is refreshing and my wife got the hibiscus cooler which comes free with the combo sampler is also not too sweet.
