My local friend says their tea is top 3 in the South Bay in terms of strength and flavor. I trust him because he is a psychopath that orders with 0% sweetness. My 8pm Visit (4 stars) Initially when I got my popcorn chicken snack order I was like where's the basil? I found shrunk basil at the bottom. I wish they'd put more just so it balances all of that fried goodness. I had to wait about 10 minutes and it came out piping hot. The popcorn chicken is standard. I was craving Shihlin but they closed. I'd say this is a good second place to Shihlin. Ume's kiosk ordering system is quite intuitive. The screen has big buttons that are easy to tap. The pink decor and cutesy Asian music gives this place an anime ambience. My wife's 9:30pm visit (-3 stars) She ordered 3 drinks - sticky rice yogurt, mango coconut twilight and brown sugar boba fresh milk. It took 40 mins for her to get the drinks. On the screen, her number is supposedly next but the guy managing the drinks keeps skipping her number and gave drinks to others behind her. She asked him the status and he said he's waiting for 1 more drink. She stood there watching and she saw him giving that drink to another person who ordered way after her. She asked again where's her drinks and the guy looks confused. He asked the other girl who's making the drink and she said she already made it. Which means he gave the drink to another customer. The guy who's managing the drinks is slow, inefficient and confused. Either he's not trained properly which is caused by the poor management of the owner or the guy is just not the right fit for the job. After my wife got her drinks, she asked about the free bunny (if you spend over $20), and the guy told her it's sold out. My wife was very upset because if they run out, they should not put a note saying "if you order above $20, you get a free nice-scented bunny". Thats misleading and false advisement. She ordered extra drink, hoping to get the free bunny for the kids. If it's already run out, they should remove the note and not mislead customers. This made her more upset after waiting 40 mins for her drinks! He didn't even offer anything for the poor customer service. Meanwhile, I'm in the car asking her what's taking so long. The drinks are good, consistent with other locations but this location has poor management overall! False advertising and 40 mins for 3 drinks are unacceptable! Absolutely the best service! We had this for Employee Appreciation Day at my job, and it was awesome. We ordered 250 teas--passion fruit, milk tea, and yogurt. The manager personally drove them to us and was so sweet, helping us unload everything and keep it all safe. Somehow, all 250 drinks fit in her Tesla across three boxes and bags! Only 2-3 broke, which honestly isn't bad considering how heavy everything was. The bags were super cute--I even kept one for myself. And the teas were delicious. I tried the Passion Fruit Green Tea with boba and lychee jelly, and it was perfect at 50% sugar. I also took home the UMe Boba Milk Tea for my husband to try. I loooove the mochi topping and this is one of the only places in San Jose that will add mochi topping in a drink. Such a unique addition and I love the added texture, silky, and chewiness. This location can get pretty busy and packed, but they have a kiosk to order or ordering online. Wait times can be kinda long, I've probably waited around 20-25 minutes for a drink when it was busy. A fun gamified experience to tea! On 9pm on a Saturday night, Ume tea was absolutely packed, much to my surprise. Being in the heart of Milpitas does have its benefits I suppose ;). There are two kiosks to order from. The menu selection is pretty large, so it may take a while to wait for others to place their order (talk about option paralysis!). There are 3-4 tables to sit at -- all full on Saturday night -- and some bench seating by the wall. The store is super bright so definitely keeps you awake. I ordered the grape tea with green tea jelly, with the special stuffed animal. Because it was so crowded, it took 20+ minutes to get my drink, which is honestly pretty long considering I expected to just grab and go. The excitement of opening my keychain really eased the wait time though -- added a cute graduation bear to my collection. The tea itself is pretty average -- good sweetness level and can taste the tea, but nothing to rave about. The texture of the green tea jelly was great and paired surprisingly well with the tea. I'd definitely take my friends to Ume for the cute plushy unboxing experience but would probably not wait too long in line if I was only getting the drinks. As one of the only stores open late though, I think it's a good option if you're craving late night tea. read more

I tried UME Tea many times since the last few years and really enjoyed it. The sticky rice tea with yogurt is delicious smooth, comforting, and full of flavor, perfect for the holiday season. The service always is friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was clean, cozy, and relaxing. Definitely a place I'd recommend. One of my favorite boba places! Cute little tea spot, perfect for either ordering to go or if you get lucky, there's a handful of tables to sit, sip, snack and yap! Ordering is easy you can either go to the front or order from a kiosk. The teas are tasty and I love upgrading to the bunny surprise cup to see what cute prize I get. Today I got a strawberry matcha milk tea and it was so fresh and tasty! The boba here is also the best, perfectly chewy. I came here around 5pm on a Tuesday. They had free samples of their oolong milk tea outside so I had some and it was good. Unsure of how long it's just been sitting outside though. Inside was really clean and cute. They had a kiosk right by the door and at the cash register too. I ordered a pistachio jasmine milk tea. It's been a while since I've gone to Ume Tea. I'm happy that I came back. If I recall, I've enjoyed my drinks every time I've come. The prices are reasonable and have a great selection and cute little plushies. Just today, I went to a peach drink tasting event. I was given a seasonal peach drink to pair along side with the popcorn chicken. I got 50 percent sweetness, to me it was the perfect amount. It was very refreshing and I loved the peach oolong flavor! I think the peach bits added a nice touch as a topping for the drink. It really paired well with the popcorn chicken. It's crispy, tender, and they give a good amount of chicken. The seasoning is done just right as well as the amount of batter. I would highly recommend this snack! Overall, the drinks come out fast. I usually enjoy visiting the Ume Tea franchise and have never had an issue at other locations. Unfortunately, my recent visit to the Milpitas Square location was very disappointing. I visited on a Wednesday afternoon around 5 p.m., and the store was not busy--there were only a few customers at the time. I'm currently 8 months pregnant and had a strong craving for their popcorn chicken. When I received my order, I noticed that several pieces looked undercooked and visibly pink inside. Right before taking a bite, I asked my husband if it looked normal and safe to eat. Given my pregnancy, we didn't want to take any risks. My husband informed the cashier about the issue. There was no apology--just the order being taken back. After a few minutes, they returned with a replacement. To be cautious, I opened multiple pieces, and while some were fully cooked with white meat, others were still pink. Since I ordered it spicy, the chili flakes made it difficult to tell which pieces were properly cooked. In the end, my husband advised me not to eat it at all because it didn't feel safe, especially during pregnancy. I was really disappointed--not only because the issue wasn't properly resolved, but also because there was no apology or reassurance from the staff. Food safety is extremely important, especially for pregnant customers. Unfortunately, due to this experience and how it was handled, I don't think I'll be visiting this location again. read more
