Snappy dragon reminds me of a trip to Disneyland Picture sitting on a boat electronically cruising around an imitation jungle river...the plastic Hippo jumps out of the water and snorts at you, spraying water....imitation Crocodiles swish by looking like they want to eat you....the boat captain impersonator jives his way through a hackneyed monologue and you realize the amazing knack Disney Corporation has of turning the entire world into a replica of reality...nothing authentic exists in Disneyland. Now in Disneyland we are going to, or we are supposed to, appreciate the sheer marvel of the thoroughness and creativity of the fantasy, of the facsimiles. That is the kick in it.
Snappy dragon has accomplished the same extreme level of fashioning the inauthentic facsimile as found in Disneyland!
There is not a shred of authentic Chinese cooking ability (Or any cooking ability for that matter) in this kitchen. Undercooked (maybe uncooked would better describe them) vegetables, incredibly weird textured home made noodles (I can still feel the noodle knots that had a bite like pebbles, sitting in my stomach), grease everywhere, tasteless thick starchy doughy dumplings with just a trace of (bitter) vegetable filling, a good stiff shot of MSG (yes, even today after all the revealing research about the detriment to your health) in the Hot and Sour soup, and house made sauces that deliver two weeks worth of sodium in one portion.
The staff people in the restaurant are very sweet and kind. They seem so innocent and apparently have no idea what Chinese cuisine well prepared would look like, smell like or taste like. They all seem ready to take their place smiling broadly on that boat in Disneyland and to guide us through the world of plastic imitations.
Some say there are Chinese restaurants that are traditional and others that we call Americanized, Judy Fu's sets a new standard of tragic ineptitude for which we would have to create a whole new category of restaurant. Bogus Chinese cuisine might be the moniker befitting this farce. If we selected a group of junior high school kids and set them to work in the kitchen, with just a bit of instruction and practice, it is likely they would produce no less acceptable creations than now available in the Snappy Dragon.
There is a joke back on the east coast that all the cooks in the Indian restaurants are actually cab drivers by trade, with no culinary training, moonlighting to boost their income. I actually think that their are no trained cooks in Snappy Dragons kitchen, I am sorry, no insult or offense intended toward those earning an honest living under the employ of Snappy Dragon, however, good people, please consider taking a quick entry level course, maybe Wok cooking 101 or noodle rolling and cutting 101 ???
Five of us dined at Snappy Dragon, we ordered two drinks, soup for 3, one order of vegetable pot stickers, 2 vegetable dishes and a tea duck... $65.00 plus tip....had we each ordered a main dish it would have been close to a $100. meal with the tip.
Help rehabilitate Snappy Dragon by refraining from patronizing...if business dropped precipitously they might have to do some long overdue soul searching...I doubt the owners eat this poor quality of food at home so I wonder, why serve it to us, the Seattle community? It would appear that the inspiration behind the presentation at Snappy Dragon is mercenary and therefor merciless! They are excelling at suppressing their food costs!
Try the food bar at a local supermarket and compare. If you enjoy Snappy Dragon you might be surprised to find supermarket food bar Chinese Cuisine right out of the steam table to be quite a good value. One of the local All you can eat Buffet's might please as well at quite the savings! read more
