Our favorite Chinese restaurant, and my family is Chinese and picky eaters. The food is all really yummy, the prices are affordable, the staff is friendly, street parking is easy and you don't need a reservation. Highly recommend! You should check it out and give this minority owned small business your patronage.

Large Hot and sour soup with share bowls

I was very much in the mood for simple, no frills Chinese food. I was also cold so I definitely was in need of some hot soup. Luckily they serve up some free hot tea upon sitting down. This is a welcome start. To warm up a large shared bowl of 'Hot And Sour Soup' soup was in order. Definitely hot with some tangy-ness to which hit the spot. For an entree I was lured away from the basic fare by their specials menu. One thing that jumped out was the was the Sweet and Sour Pork chop. It reminded me of a similar entree I've had at a Thai restaurant I used to frequent but not quite as good. The flavor was there for the most part but nothing in the way of crispiness. Also I found it kinda lame that they charged an additional $1.50 for a small rice to go with it. The aforementioned Thai spot that has that same meal comes lots of rice and is slightly cheaper actually. The rice is important because the Pork chop is pretty saucy so the rice helps with getting more of the sauce. The service was good, but our server was a "Tablewatcher". The kind of server that typically when it's slow they're just watching the tables for signs they're ready to leave or need something. I appreciate being mindful of the tables you're managing, but staring makes it weird. Overall probably about what you'd expect -- a sizeable eat in Chinese food spot with some free tea, but tacked on prices elsewhere. Wasn't looking for exceptional which is fitting, Yummy did hit the spot, it was exceptionally average.

    Slimy, uncooked, un-fried fried rice.

So I'm a travel nurse from the northeast (DMV) and Chinese takeout is one of my favorites! This place was a hard no for me. Great service and nice people! But the food was not good at all. The pork fried rice I ordered was not fried and the pork inside looked uncooked and slimy. I'm used to chopped pieces of pork spareribs mixed in my fried rice. But this place did something different. I'll show you in a picture attached. The Szechuan style string beans had an odd, sour taste. Similar to it being old or sitting for awhile. They look good! But, the taste was sour and old. I had to throw that away. Overall, I'm disappointed. I had high hopes for this place. I won't be back, unfortunately.

My review is based on one visit, but it was a great visit! We dined in, and the service was great. We were seated and served a pot of tea right away. We shared an order of egg rolls and Szechuan beef with steamed rice. The egg rolls were rolled tight and were crispy with fresh veggie filling and not a bit of greasiness. The Szechuan beef was flavorful and actually had some spice to it which I find lacking at many places. It also had a few veggies in addition to onion with the beef such as celery, carrot, bamboo shoot, and a few snow peas. I have found many places don't seem to want to use vegetables anymore other than onion. To wrap it up, the fortune cookies arrived, and the check was processed in a timely manner with us already talking about coming back to try some other menu items.

    45.00 worth of bland food

This place is not yummy. I had a bad craving for Chinese food and been thinking about trying this place for a while. It is directly across the street from Met Market so when I got done shopping, I walked over. The staff there were very nice so the 1 star is for the food. For takeout, I got chicken chow mein, house fried rice, and Mongolian beef. The portions are large so I knew I could eat off of it for a few days. Unfortunately, when I got home, I was so disappointed and then grew mad as I kept eating. Everything was horrible, just awful. All three items lacked flavor. The rice tasted like nothing and the noodles were very greasy and so so bland. I doused everything I soy sauce and still, it was awful. The Mongolian beef was the worst. Discolored prices of fatty beef, swimming around in a pool of brown watery sauce that looked like diarrhea water. Again, all flavorless but sweet and spicy at the same time. 45.00 in the trash. I did keep the rice, and turned it into kimchi fried rice the next day.

Vivian and Fay are doing an amazing job running this place and serving delicious and simple chinese food. Best Asian food place in the neighborhood. We dropped in for lunch on a rare Seattle snowy day and ordered the lunch special.

Unfortunately, the quality has declined to the point where it no longer feels worth the effort. The food is now significantly overpriced for what you get. Service is generally friendly, but inconsistent. One visit about six months ago stands out: we waited over 10 minutes after being seated with no acknowledgment, and eventually walked out. It wasn't even busy. Most recently, we were seated near the window when someone came in and asked to watch the baseball game. The staff turned the bar TV volume up so loud it was difficult to have a conversation. While we understand it's a sports-friendly environment, that level of noise didn't match the pricing or atmosphere we expected. Sports bars don't usually serve burgers that cost $26. We could have moved, but didn't anticipate such a dramatic change for one patron. We're grateful for the great memories over the years, but it's clear the experience has shifted, and not in a direction that works for us anymore.

The black cod was not the center of the dish literally or figuratively: it should have been labeled a black cod salad because for 35 dollars it was a giant pile of salad with a tiny sliver of cod served on the side. It is offensive to call this a main course with how the dish is plated and portioned. The rest of the menu suffers from similar compromises: the lobster rolls are pretty good but very small for 33 dollars. Some of the other menu items were a lot better in presentation and value. The mushroom risotto and the cheeseburger were some of the better items on the menu. The oysters were also very good. There's some bright spots here but the overall experience is very compromised by some landmines on the menu. I would come here specifically to sample a few oysters and for the cheeseburger but not for any other items if you are expecting an actual meal. You can easily drop 80+ dollars and leave feeling like something was missing.

We came mostly for happy hour but there wasn't much that intrigued us on the menu. We did split half a dozen oysters that were served with the most boring and basic mignonette and no lemon. I'd come back for the burger and salad and that's it. The server left much to be desired and really impacted our experience. I know it's hard for restaurants to survive in Seattle with how expensive everything is. It's also expensive for people to go out to eat in this city. It's as though you were eating the outdoors. The owner met with us and gave us a history of the place, followed by his chef's cuisine philosophy. Just a really pleasant conversation. My only personal gripe is that some of the elevated presentations of the cuisine itself did not meld well with some of the rustic dishes; I think their presentation should appear slightly more 'nouvelle cuisine française' and less road-side diner in some dishes. Overall however, R Christine reminds me of the wonderful little hidden locovore spots throughout France that oftentime prove to be borderline Michelin star operations. I'm pretty sure I saw someone taking one home that they drank a few bottles out of also, which is a first. I was impressed by the creativity of the dishes as well. I'm not one to be impressed by cabbage, or ever order it, but the charred cabbage looked enticing. The cheese on the bottom, seasoning, and dates transformed this ordinary vegetable into a star. And of course you gotta see what they're doing with the seasonal veggies. I can't seem to ever cook squash the right way, but they crafted it into the ideal consistency where it was almost meaty. That New York Strip was out of this world though... the garlic sauce that accompanied it was just enough of a flavor enhancer that it didn't take away from a steak that was cooked to the ideal temp. There's a cushioned banquette and chairs, and you have a view of the bar. To drink, my parents had their essentials wine flight. It's 3 wines: One sparkling white, one rose, and one lighter red. All of them were delicious! The favorite was the sparkling white. I had a non-alcoholic rose that was perfectly bubbly and fruity without being too sweet. To eat, we started with a half dozen oysters. They were on the briny and salty side, which we like! The mignonette served along was yummy too. We then had the following entrees: Croque Monsieur with a sunny egg, Lobster Benedict (special), and the quiche Lorraine. The Croque sandwich was decadent and the side salad was a great complement to it. I had to remind them about the egg, but it was brought out promptly. The lobster Benedict was rich and luxurious, and the potatoes paired nicely. The quiche Lorraine was custardy (as advertised) and had a nice balance of bacon and other flavors. We ended our meal with dessert and coffee. We enjoyed the pistachio Mille Feuille and the Opera cake. The Mille feuille was recommended by Maddie and I see why! However, it still tasted like it had a really nice flavor, and had a soft interior. It being actually spicy would've moved this dish up a lot, though each taco was primarily made out of this chicken - and there was so much of it it was practically insane - but I loved this amount shoutout to the onions as well - they were great I asked for the habanero sauce - which i thought was ok - wasn't spicy at all and didn't add much flavor. will go with another sauce next time tried mixing in some taco bell fire sauce which was interesting i love that these came wrapped in aluminium foil to preserve heat. a great touch overall, as far as taste, these were pretty good, but when you consider the amount of meat you're getting, along with overall portion size - it's simply a fantastic meal.
