I arranged to have this food delivered to my mom's place for my small birthday get together in late January. My family has lived in the Seattle area since the late 80's. We love Thai Cuisine. We regularly tried places growing up and as a result we've eaten some of the best and some of the worst Thai food around here. This food was phenomenal. Sorry, big disappointment this evening. Ordered (and got confirmation) at 5:23 on line, got there 15 minutes later and waited an hour (literally) for food. Total chaos. Rainy evening. Sadly, the food really suffered. Jasmine rice (2 orders) are a gloppy sticky mess. Pad Thai is SO not like the photo - a mass of flavorless sticky noodles with barely any carrot, sprouts or tofu - and one wedge of lime. The Pad Prateek (sp?) was an oily mess. And the curry - acceptable though watery and just a few goodies. I have been happy before but will reconsider ordering. We had Thai Ocean by Greenlake earlier this week and it was noticeably better - but it varies also by night. Can't someone just get it right - consistently. Not worth $76 for three dishes! read more

The curry was good and lots of tofu! I ordered a 4/5 but could have done 5, not that spicy. The sides of rice are extra sadly. Service was good and I like the ambiance of the place. Crispy tofu is a 10/10 so yum and you get a lot of it. Only downside is that it has a ton of oil in it but as expected for fried tofu. My partner order the duck stir fry I think and liked it a lot. I love this place so much! We came in as a party of 2 on a Monday night at about 7:00 PM. It was pretty quiet, but it was a chill place to be. I have always loved their stylish and unique decor, and great service. This is a great place to dine in-it is comfortable, elegant and relaxed. We split the crab wonton appetizer, which was great! I love the sauce these are served with, and these are crispy, creamy and savory all at once. I ordered the Thai Basil with chicken, 5 stars for spice, and it delivered on the heat. I love the balance of the basil with the vegetables, and the sauce this was prepared in was wonderful. I used all of the rice I got on the side to eat and enjoy this. I always love coming here and recommending them to people-they have some of the best flavors here, and I like the variety of dishes they serve. Phayathai used to be one of my favorite Thai places in Seattle, but with the change in management/ownership, I've definitely noticed some quality issues. A previous review has already stated this, but yes, the inconsistency of dishes. I've ordered a few times since the change and while in the beginning, I barely noticed the difference between the old/new management (except the crab rangoon sourcing--that was definitely different), but each time I returned after that has gone downhill. My 5* Chicken Pad Thai has been really bland the last couple times, and this I can't understand. How does a dish so flavorful turn out like this? But, the worst culprit of all was when I was nursing a cold a while back and ordered a Tom Yum Soup. This was HANDS DOWN the WORST decision, as the chicken they used for this soup was clearly overcooked to rubber. It was SO dry/overcooked that it literally crumbled in the soup and was not edible. It's so disappointing to be served food in this condition, and I haven't been back since, which is a shame since Phayathai is fairly close by. read more

I've only been here once and tried the Papaya Salad. PROS: - Good location easy parking, open late compared to other restaurants in the area - friendly staff easy ordering and lovely interior, I really liked their pairings - prices are reasonable and menu is pretty comprehensive CONS: - Small portion for price which means don't expect leftovers - I asked for extra spicy, they did not give me spicy on my salad. I know Thai styles salads are not very spicy but I've had spicier Papaya Salad in Thailand - the salad tasted fine, did not care for the giant tacky raw cabbage that took up half my portion. Instead of a full papaya salad in a box I felt like I got half of the dish I paid very quickly put together Do not recommend for salads, cannot comment on other menu items. I've driven by this place so many times and have been meaning to try it. They aren't doing dine in right now, but tons of delivery orders. We called to order food for pickup and it was delicious! Glad I read the reviews about how spicy it can be (2 stars was more like a 4 star at most places). We had beef pad see ew, chicken Phayathai fried rice (which was so Inter and tasty - it had shrimp, pineapple, cashews and raisins in it!) and spicy eggplant with tofu - the spicy eggplant was probably my favorite. Glad I got a side of white rice, it was perfect to soak up the sauce from the spicy eggplant. We'll definitely order from here again. read more

Dimly-lit, across from a strip club and underneath some housing, you'll find Phayathai. Upon entry you're welcomed to a large room with some booths and tables and chairs. A friend of mine works nearby and swore the food here was legit! He was not wrong. We ordered family style several dishes including pad-see-ew, rhadnah, Thai fried rice, massaman curry and crab dumplings. Everything we ordered came out quickly and tasted authentic. The portion sizes are very generous and flavors were bold and big. I ordered the noodles at a level five, but our server suggested I back it down to four. Four was hot enough! The service here was also impeccable. Our waters were filled non-stop. The complimentary hot tea was offered to to be refilled as well. Overall Phayathai was some pretty fire Thai (pun intended). If I lived near here, I'd be a regular. read more

This used to be our favorite Thai restaurant anywhere. The flavors were always so good, the service amazing. They often remembered us when we came in since we tended to order the same dishes. Hadn't had a chance to go for a while so tried take out today and was really looking forward to the wonderful comfort food of Phayathai. Sadly, it was really quite terrible. The soup had chicken that tasted past it's prime, the broth had a different flavor than usual and not nearly as spicy. The eggplant sauce was very thin and not flavorful as usual, as well as undercooked eggplant and overcooked shrimp. The green bean wok was always a favorite and even this dish was a pale comparison to the way it had always been. Limp, flavorless beans, very sad. Even the pad Thai which should be the most consistent was poorly flavored and just sad. Well, I guess it was nice for the years when it was amazing but that will be the last time we go there. Update: I still very love their food, I really love the pad ew. I just got a little chat with the new owner as well. I just know that the new owner have been change for 9 months already and also the new owner themselves have to figure some of the recipes because the old owner didn't tell them so that why thing might taste different but I think it still good some dishes are even better, also kinda shock for me, imagine you brought a business of someone, and they didn't tell all the recipes. We live around the corner and have gotten food twice from here. The first time the pad see ew was delicious, the second time it was just ok. Similar for the pad Thai, great once just ok the next time. I disagree with the reviews with the spice level. I do like spicy foods so there's that caveat, but I was happy with a four spice and my partner thought that mild spice wasn't lacking in spice. Phayathai has officially become my new go-to place for thai food since the quarantine started. Up until today, all my orders were take-out orders; I haven't gotten the chance to dine in. (I will try to avoid ordering through third party delivery platforms if you have the ability to pick it up as ordering through those apps charge a substantial amount of commission fees on every delivery order) I first ordered their PAD THAI a few months back, and it was very standard pad thai flavors you will find: savory, rich flavors. Nothing bad about it; a pad thai should taste like a pad thai. I remember finishing the whole plate all in one go despite the huge portion. After the initial discovery, I went on to order my favorite thai dish--GREEN CURRY CHICKEN from them and It tasted wonderful. The dish had the milky taste from the coconut milk, but not too overwhelming. It's also pretty savory but not as strong as some of the other thai dishes such as pad kee mao or pad thai. With around $14, you get lots of veggies, chicken pieces, and big chucks of eggplants (my fav ) in there as well as a side of well-made white rice (nobody likes saggy mush rice if you know what I am talking about). Their black rice pudding, on the other side, was quite mind-blowingly sweet. Some might dig it, but what I did instead was just diluting it with 1:1 ratio almond milk and enjoyed it in several sittings. For a $3 dessert, I think I got more joy and value out of it. In addition, their staff has always been super friendly, every time I went in to pick up my food, they greeted me with smiles, made small talk, and sanitized my credit card with alcohol wipe before returning it to me. TLDR: Average Thai food. Came to this place after reading reviews and was a little disappointed. This place is pretty average. The flavor proportions seem either too much or off--too strong of one thing compared to another so the flavor isn't properly balanced. Dimly lit dining area with a slight haze in the air--most likely from the kitchen. Radio/pop music playing in the background. Small 4 person bar. There is a saltwater fish tank next to it. Lots of take-out/delivery going on while we were waiting for our food. The majority doesn't sit in to eat here so expect open tables. They do take reservations but I don't think it's necessary. Tom Kha: slightly creamy texture. The taste of lime is stronger than the coconut milk. Pretty good but I've honestly had better. The only real edible things are the meat, cilantro, and mushroom. I wish it would come with rice. Pad See Ew: wide rice noodles, Chinese broccoli, and your choice of meat drenched in sauce. The sauce is a nice flavor but I think it's a bit too much. All you really taste is the sauce. I usually look to the noodles for neutral taste bud relief but everything was covered in sauce. read more

My partner and I used to come to this place two years ago and have not since then. They've made a lot of interior changes and it looks great! Regarding the food, this place has the best fried rice in Seattle! I believe it was cooked by the younger lady with the cute bangs and glasses. She also served us and was very nice! They had a BOGO promotion so my partner and bought more dishes to go. Overall, very satisfied with our chicken fried rice. I had the Thai Basil fried rice with pork. The fried rice and sautéed vegetables it came with absolutely hit the spot, although the pork was a bit dry and there wasn't a ton of it. This was a hidden gem in the lake city! I was shook that all their meal was so tasty and so good! Specially their peanut sauce! I ordered chicken satay absolutely tasty! And yellow curry seafood for my main and I can say it was a legit thai food from all thai restaurant I have been. The thai iced tea is not to sweet not to watered down. Got take out. Good flavors and friendly service earned four stars with minor mishaps. No jasmine rice with my order which I paid for and needed for one of my juicier dishes, so that's a bummer. I ordered pad Thai and Tom kha soup for take out. For the Pad Thai, there were 5 options for spice - 1. Mild, 2. Medium, 3. Spicy, 4. Very Spicy, 5. No spicy. I ordered a 2...it was so spicy I could not eat it. My mouth was on fire and my face was sweating after three bites. I had to throw it away. The Tom Kha was watery with two mushrooms included. Ordered take out from here. Good thing that it had a separate free parking. I didnt really notice the interiors as it was dimly lit. Food wise the pad see ew was quite good 4/5 although much less sweeter than any other Thai place but the Rad Nah was really bad (1/5). The gravy sauce was essentially just soy sauce+cornstarch mixture with not much flavor at all. Also, the tofu ordered with the dishes were fried in stale oil. I might try this place again for stir-fried noodles but will stay far away from the rad nah or the tofu as protein option. read more

Lets start off by saying if you are dinning in its perfect, food is amazing ------ Having Never been to this place my roommate and I decided to order delivery for the first time since we had a bad experience with another Thai place on lake city. The wait for average about 30-40 mins we provided a phone number and a door code for our apt building, the driver called and said he couldn't get out of his car and we had to come down ( first time anything we've ever had delivered wasn't able to bring it to our door), we looked past that and paid w/tip. The second time within the same week I decided to order on my own with delivery having a $20.00 minimum (free delivery) I order pad thai noodle and pad see ew with a side of spring rolls totaling $27.00 when I was only ordering for myself, no biggie. This time they were able to bring the food up to the door and I paid without a tip this time due to having order 3x the amount of food in order to meet the delivery requirement. 10 mins later I receive a text stating the following: 12066012503: we do no fee for delivery. You do no tip. Just let's you know please dont order from us for delivery any more. Thank you I will never eat from this place again, since when is tip mandatory when there is a delivery requirement. I called the driver back and ask him how is delivery free if you are requiring a tip, his response was " I don't drive to delivery and waste gas". Enough said. read more

Instructions to write entree names on containers were completely ignored. How are we supposed to know what's what without opening and digging around in each entree? How can I be sure of spice levels in cases where two similar dishes were ordered, even if I poke around? I asked for the entree names for a reason -- not because I just want to be fancy. Super tired of the Thai in Ballard, I ventured out to Maple Leaf after a jaunt to Target. Phayathai had good reviews, so my friend and I checked it out. The location is awful. It's right off of a busy street, the parking situation is really cramped, and there are not too many spaces. If you drive a larger vehicle (as I do), be prepared to hit the other car doors as you're trying to get out. The inside was dead except for a few awkward "dates" and regulars. The food left much to be desired. The chicken in the Tom Kha soup was way overcooked, and we got a noodle dish that was basically glorified chow mein. Not a fan. Maybe I caught them on an off-day? But I probably won't be back since it's out of the way of where I live anyway. read more

We started getting delivery from Phayathai about ten years ago when we lived in Maple Leaf. We moved to Hawthorn Hills five years ago which put us outside of their delivery zone but they graciously continued service for us. Golf and his family always make us feel special. They even keep a Coke stash on hand for me as they usually carry Pepsi. I've had Thai from restaurants all over Seattle and Phayathai is my favorite. My 11-year-old loves the yellow curry and tom kah gai and my 9-year-old loves the cucumber salad and the swimming rama. Pad see ew is a favorite for my husband and me and its perfect here. Additionally, their delivery is always faster than they say it will be and they are reasonably priced. I highly recommend them! read more

So i've come here a few times and this review is more of a 3.5* review, but I rounded down as I'm considering whether or not I'd come here because I was craving anything. The food is good, but I wouldn't say that I crave anything from here. We've tried the pad see eew, pad thai, pad kee mao, panang curry, swiimming rama, and the spicy eggplant. Top dishes are defintiely the spicy eggplant and the pad see eew, but the last time I went, the tofu in my pad see eew seemed a bit tofu as if they had refried left over tofu. The pad see eew also uses chinese broccoli instead of the normal broccoli which I didn't mind, but the bf dislikes. However, the flavor of the dishes are tasty without being overly salty, but every time I go, the spice level is just not as much as I'd like. Last time, I specifically asked for extra super spicy, but it still tasty at about a 3.5-4* level. Prices are also a bit higher than other thai places around the area (~$10/dish). I'm conflicted b/c the couple that runs it is super sweet, but there's equally flavorful thai for cheaper just 5 min away. read more

I've been looking for a really good Tom Yum Soup around U district and I thought I'd try this through Uber Eats. Logistically everything was great but OH MY GOD I have never tasted something spicier than this. And I got a 2 star. I usually get 3 stars anywhere else. The flavor was really good but about 1/4 of the way through my lips were red hot and nearly swollen it was so spicy. I even added 1/4 cup of ice water to cut the spiciness and see if maybe it was the temperature but it didn't help much. Plus there were only 6 mushrooms in the entire soup and anywhere else the top would be completely covered in mushrooms (the best part!). LOVE their food! This is one of the better Thai restaurants in Seattle (IMHO). They have the BEST Pad See Ew... and I love their appetizers - DRAGON BALLS!! :) My only complaint is that they gave us the wrong bag of leftovers to take home, which was a total bummer because I was really looking forward to them the next day.
