Waimea Combo Plate with mashed potatoes and veggies
    Arielle M.

    1. Tasty - soft chicken and veggies. Perfect tenderness. Teriyaki Sauce too thin for my liking though. Fell off the chicken. 2. Mashed potatoes - flavor not so great. Added butter and pepper at home = better. Nice and fluffy texture. 3. Did not eat in person so service and ambience unknown. 4. Spam musubi LOTS of rice. Seaweed not strong flavor. Good sauce inside.

Being from Hawaii I was wanting to eat local breakfast. It was just like being at home on Oahu! Service was super good, wait help was friendly and food came out fast. The place felt comfortable and a welcoming atmosphere. When we are back in Seattle we will definitely be back

My first time came here. It's a bit challenging to get a parking spot. I need to go around one block and find a way to get into the parking lot behind the building. All the staff were pretty chill and nice. Love all their smiles. I got my favorite, Beef Stew. I ordered this often in Lynnwood site, especially when I was sick. Regarless, it's on different location, the taste is the same! So, I'm happy about it. The vibe is completely different than Lynnwood one. This restaurant is darker and guests are way louder. Mostly, university students, I think. I like dim light atmosphere, unfortunately, I can't enjoy it much here. Too loud? Too dark? Or it's just not the right light bulbs, it got me dizzy. It was at night, it made the room even gloomy. Upon returning to the parking lot, the atmosphere is somewhat unsettling. This is particularly true for a woman walking alone. To access the parking lot, I had to walk through the darkness to the back of the building. Unfortunately, due to the narrow parking lot, one car was parked in a manner that blocked the exit way, requiring me to reverse all the way out. Overall fantastic staff, fantastic food, but I may not comeback because the vibe just doesn't suit me. This restaurant will most likely be very busy in the better location and fresh look.

My favorite karaoke spot. I've been going for years. Their bar is cozy and the bartenders make great cocktails. Got to try their Mothers Day brunch and now it's my favorite brunch spot. The advantage of a buffet was that I was able to try a variety of dishes. Their coconut syrup was very good as well as the coconut jelly. Fave was the moco loco with kimchi. The slightly funky sour cabbage cut through the savory patty and gravy, such a tasty combination. Liliko'i mimosas were also very good. Although busy staff were very attentive.

My husband and I moved into the area almost 3 years ago. The Kona Kitchen is one of our staples! Everything they have is delicious! My go to is the mochico chicken. The crispiness and the flavor is to die for! I've ordered the teriyaki chicken several times. Although when I switch to chicken breast, get considerably less chicken than the standard dark meat teriyaki. The breakfast fare is standard, but the option of Portuguese sausage takes it to a different level! (I typically don't order breakfast here, but when I do, I would choose this or Moco loco). Delicious Hawaiian fare, on the mainland. No complaints here! Mahalo!

Chicken Katsu Loco Moco with gravy on the side and grilled onions.

2 stars might be kinda harsh, but the food really wasn't that great this time. It's been years since I've been at this location (the Lynnwood location seems to be the better of the two). I got the fried rice loco moco, upgraded to chicken katsu and added grilled onions. I got it to go so I asked for the gravy on the side so it wouldn't make the katsu soggy. They put the gravy in a tiny dipping cup. For as expensive as this cost, I would hope for a better serving size on my gravy. The fried rice and katsu were virtually tasteless and the grilled onions weren't really cooked. Oh, and my overeasy egg was overcooked to an overhard. Really disappointing, especially considering they aren't all that cheap. I hope it was just a bad night. I've never had any problems with the food from the Lynnwood location.

We enjoyed a lovely family brunch at Kona Kitchen on a recent Sunday--my first time here. First impressions? The old-school vibe was welcoming, the place was busy, and I knew we were in for some great food (and dessert). We were greeted and seated by Jordan, who provided top-notch service. He answered all our questions, offered helpful suggestions, and checked in on us throughout our meal. You can tell customer care is a priority here. We ordered a variety of brunch dishes along with coffee: * Mochiko Chicken (4/5): tasty and well-seasoned, but we would've preferred chunkier cuts for more crunch. * Kalbi Beef (5/5): tender, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. * Da Kanak Attack! (5/5): lived up to the name--super satisfying. * Biscuits & Gravy (4/5): delicious but came with just a little gravy (we're gravy lovers, so we asked for extra). * Another breakfast plate (??) that was equally hearty. Portions were generous, and the mac salad that came with our meals was the way I like it- not too mayo-y. We couldn't resist dessert especially after a bit of encouragement from Jordan. We ordered two slices of haupia cake (a must-try!) and a slice of each of the rainbow and guava cake. The haupia was my favorite: light, coconut-y, moist, and not overly sweet. It was also my first time trying Hawaiian-style rainbow cake--fun and delicious! Kona Kitchen is a gem, especially if you're craving local-style comfort food and warm service.

Good lunch spot! My friends and I ordered two of da kanak attack and saimin. I thought the da kanak attack portions were generous! Personal standouts from da kanak attack were the teriyaki beef and macaroni salad; I thought the mochiko chicken had too much breading and not enough chicken. Service was attentive. I'll be back to order the same thing or try something new.

Came here on a Sunday for lunch and it was wuite busy! First time here and im quite surprised to see they have Hawaiian buffet for $32.50 (?) per person. I would say it's quite a popular option here as many tables were doing it. I ordered their loco moco with fried rice (+$$) with katsu chicken (+$$). First impression, looks good smells good. I appreciate the gravy looks a little darker than most places that look quite light and bland. The fried rice is quite flavorful and savory from the chopped ham, balanced with the gravy. The katsu chicken was great and flavorful, but i find it definitely on the dry side and already cold when served. It needs a little more gravy in my opinion because of that.

Let's start with Pros: Locally owned. Always a win for me. Staff seems nice and have good relations. It's a vintage spot. Food: :/... I had the traditional loco Moco. I really hate to trash small business.. but guys... come on. 1. The flavor is extremely underwhelming. The beef doesn't have any salt or pepper taste. I'm glad I ordered a side of sausage because that's what saved this dish. Can't can't really complain about eggs and rice, but for whatever reason.. this version didn't have much flavor. I've had much better. 2. Second photo shows you what I looked at mid review.. raw burger meat. I've had a long day and don't feel like driving back over. I will call tomorrow to speak with manager about a refund but.. come on. 3. I know that your business structure is set up the way that you want to run it but consider fresh ingredients.. that patty taste like a frozen patty from Walmart. --- Again, I hate to trash small business, but this was a really bad experience and I'm hoping that you guys will consider giving me a refund

I got the Banzai pipeline w/ Teri chicken. Portions are big and contains lots of rice. The chicken was tender and had good flavor. The spring rolls were ok, not super crispy. I liked the sweet and sour sauce on the side, it went well with the dish. Restaurant itself has quite a lot of seating and there was no wait time. Overall, solid Hawaiian spot in seattle with reasonable prices.

    Da Kanak Attack!

I can't compare to any other Hawaiian restaurants but Kona Kitchen was great. The Da Kanak Attack! dish gives you a taste of everything. The staff is great and the interior is unique.

Thankfully dine-in is back open again, so we got here on a Saturday morning around 11:20am to indoor seating that was nearly full and a small line that was forming at the front counter. Walls have a bunch of photo frames, and overall place felt very homely. They have a ton of Hawaiian style plates and even burgers and some seafood, though we and most others got the former to eat. I ordered their chicken and pork combo Hawaiian style plate, and my bestie got their chicken katsu Hawaiian style plate. Portions are huge for both plates and both also came with macaroni salad. They give you sooooo much meat no matter what you get. To go in slightly more detail: - Chicken and pork combo: both meats were flavored very well, and a little sweet too though pretty salty without using the rice as a palette cleanser. Chicken had more depth in its flavor; the pork's flavor was a little too much for my liking, and was slightly harder to chew. Both meats had some sauce hat went onto the rice itself. This didn't detract from my overall experience here, though. - Chicken katsu: we both agreed this was our favorite after exchanging pieces of each other's dish. The katsu is crispy and crunchy, and the chicken itself retained a lot of its juiciness. Katsu sauce on the side is honestly optional since the meat itself is already salty enough. This place does share extremely limited parking with Cakes of Paradise next door, so get here early or be prepared to drive around the area to find some. Just get here, it's a place you can't pass up when you hit up Georgetown!

Parking is scarce, so plan ahead and be patient. We came on a Wednesday and happened to score a parking spot right in front of the bakery. Once you arrive, get in line immediately--there will be one. The woman taking our order was incredibly peppy and friendly, even while juggling everything: taking in-person orders, answering phones, serving customers, and bagging food. Seriously impressive. All the seats were filled, so we ordered everything to-go. We got the famous crispy ginger chicken, spam musubi, and chicken long rice. I was hoping for oxtail soup and asked about it--she explained they only offer it on certain days and recommended calling early in the morning to check, then getting there quickly because it sells out fast. Can't wait to come back and try it. Back at the hotel, we feasted. The crispy ginger chicken is famous for a reason--so flavorful, perfectly crispy, and somehow even better the next day. The chicken long rice was packed with noodles directly in the soup (not separately) so the broth had mostly soaked into the noodles, but it was still deeply flavorful and comforting. The spam musubi leans on the sweeter side, which is great if that's your thing. Overall, this place is all about heart, hustle, and seriously satisfying Hawaiian comfort food. Come early, expect a line, plan for parking--and you'll be rewarded.

This was at 12:30PM and there was a long line out the door and around the corner, taking almost 30 minutes. I had previously visited on a rainy winter weekday for lunch and there wasn't a line at all. What a difference the day and weather can make! While in line we could see the chefs cutting up ahi fresh right in front. The longer line gave me time to chat with the owner as he was trimming off the skin and other bits. I learned that tuna skin is much tougher than salmon skin so can't be eaten like salmon skin chips. He also said that the trimmed parts can be taken for free if anyone wants them. Apparently they make good crab bait! Medium w/ Rice, Traditional Limu Ahi, Hamachi, Mac Salad ($21.50) - I love the Hamachi poke mix. It's fresh, tender, and buttery fish tossed in a creamy and slightly spicy sauce, filled with little briny pearls and plenty of aromatics giving a super umami bite. The Limu Ahi is very fresh as well - I mean, it's sliced right in front, and there's so much turnover of the food that's it's pretty much guaranteed fresh. The tuna is fresh and tender, but there's noticeably more sinew compared to the hamachi. The Mac Salad is also really good. It's super creamy and the macaroni isn't overcooked so it still has some bite. The rice is unfortunately the weakest item in the bowl. It's a little too dry for my tastes and is only lightly tossed with rice vinegar, giving a tangy flavor. Overall all the poke is fresh, the flavors all meld together into a delightful balanced bite, and the sauces are not overwhelming. Ono Poke definitely serves some great poke! It's definitely not the cheapest meal option, but the poke is absolutely delicious and the fish is unbelievably fresh I tried the Shoyu Salmon, Spicy Tuna, and the Hamachi; all of them were incredible. The Hamachi is only available on weekends and the fish is so fatty it almost melts in your mouth with the creamy and tangy sauce. The Shoyu Salmon is incredibly succulent and just a classic knocked out of the park with a great balance of fresh, salty, and slightly sweet. I'm normally a tuna hater, but the texture is excellent with a nice bite and great spice level.
