I ordered a strawberry sangria looked nothing like the photo and fell flat on taste. To eat I had a BBQ chicken bowl that was so good and a perfect portion size for lunch. Grayson was our server for food and for someone who's only been here a week he is AWESOME ATTENTIVE and Personable. We came here to celebrate my brother-in-laws birthday. Jason was fantastic and we actually started to feel bad for him. He's a customer facing employee, that kept a really great attitude, especially considering he was practically new. As far as the kitchen goes, my mother-in-law wanted to speak to the Manager to express how she really enjoyed this spot, but was disappointed in the outcome of tonight. He could learn a thing or two about how to speak to his customers. He became defensive and shifted the blame to us, but while we were sitting there 1 or 2 parties walked out because they hadn't been acknowledged yet. We waited for over 2 hours to get our wings and Cesar salad. The salad tasted like it had been sitting out because it was warm but the grilled chicken was cold. Fortunately the food is good, but I really can't see this being a place we visit again. I would rate this higher stars SOLELY because our Server was GREAT, but for the way the Manager responded to the situation leads me to only leave 2. Take this as a fair warning. COVID Precautions: Everyone wore masks and hand sanitizer was provided. However, a party was sat in the booth directly behind us, despite many other tables and booths being open. This was extremely upsetting and led to me rushing through my meal. We received plastic silverware. Customer service and location: Our server was very nice and offered excellent recommendations. The food came out amazingly fast. The atmosphere is really nice. The decor was pretty cool. It's amazingly convenient that it's connected to the Mall of Georgia. Food: The brisket sandwich was ten thousand times better than the pulled chicken. Everything (except for the brisket and coleslaw) lacked seasoning and tasted very plain. I found myself eating quickly so I wouldn't taste most of my meal. I don't think the right sauces were matched to our specific protein choices. The buns made the sandwiches worse. They weren't toasted or flavorful, like something you would find in a school cafeteria. I had to add all of our seasoning packets to the Mac and cheese to make it enjoyable. Drinks: The Moscow mule was good. Definitely strong. I loved the bubbleade. It's light and refreshing and has fun little bubbles at the bottom that pop in your mouth! Sadly, the water tasted like it was from the tap. Yuck. Dessert: The name doesn't lie! These donuts were super hot. They burned my fingers a little. Nevertheless, this was the best part of our meal. The donuts were dusted to perfection with cinnamon. My boyfriend said that they "brightened his whole day." I quite liked them with the raspberry dipping sauce but definitely pass on the chocolate. Thanks to my yelp friend Kara M (in Indianapolis), I decided to give this place a visit on her recommendation. "Do they have any Smokey Bones restaurants down where you live? They have great food!" she said. "I don't think I've ever been to a Smokey Bones location (at least not one I can remember), but they do have one at The Mall of Georgia, which is only 15 minutes from my home! I'll check 'em out!" I replied. "Oh you will love it!!! Great place" she exchanged. I was walking through their doors about 3 hours after our conversation, although I must admit I was still very hesitant due to their 2.5 star average rating after 226 reviews. The foodie in me just kept chanting "please be good, please be good, please be good" and honestly, I think I might have said it out loud as I was placing my order! LOL [ THE EXPERIENCE ] Forever the people person, I walked in immediately bantering with the bar staff like I'd been there 100 times. Inevitably the conversation drifted towards baby back or spare ribs, to which I am a spare rib fan. But the staff insisted on the baby backs, which drew the question "where are you from", because I don't trust certain regions of the country to like MY KINDA BBQ!!! After I insisted they were too young to know good BBQ the manager on duty joined the debate and allowed me to sample one bone each of the spare and baby backs to help me decide. I want to just say I was BLOWN AWAY when he brought me a full bone of each fully dressed. I thought I was gonna get maybe a fork full of meat, but he came out guns blazing!!! The bartender staff (whom I had harassed about their knowledge of BBQ) stood arms crossed in front of me waiting for the results of my taste test. The to-go container was super sturdy! Don't think I've ever had such a large container that felt so solid. The ribs were excellent with the brown sugar sauce and the baked bean were just the right amount of sweetness, not too little or too much. The loaded mash was just okay, but a little salt when I got home helped them shine brighter. Overall I was very pleased, but want to contain my excitement with a simple 4-star first time rating. I'm giving it 5 stars because we've been there 3 times and the 1st 2 were fantastic! Tonight, not so much, but seems it was no doubt short staffed. The sweet tea is usually perfect, I always get the fried pickles because they aren't greasy, just the right texture (I'm sure it's a breading more so than a batter, but feels like a combination of the 2), and it doesn't fall off the pickles, the wings are always nice and crispy no matter what sauce is on them, and fries are great. We've had the garlic parm, Buffalo, and root beer wings (my sons absolute favorite). Garlic is very strong, and careful with buffalo...I usually get their mild; which has a kick, but I didn't even realize our server didn't ask and I got medium which was waaay too spicy for me. I was able to just wipe off excess sauce and it was fine. The kid we had wasn't very in top of it tonight. He kept forgetting things, not refilling beverages unless asked, and was slow, but he said it was his first day and there was only maybe 2 other servers at most. I would eat here way more often if it wasn't for the trouble of parking and navigating around mall traffic. This past weekend was my first time eating at Smokey Bones and I didn't have high expectations since it's a chain and I've eaten at every mom n' pop BBQ place around. Imagine my surprise to find that the food was incredible! It's a large restaurant, and eating there on the earlier side of dinner, I couldn't really gauge whether they were social-distancing their tables because it wasn't busy, but the staff was all wearing masks. Our server was friendly but not terribly prompt with drinks and retrieving our check. The grub!! I don't think I've ever had smoked turkey that was so moist and delicious. I had the 2 protein combo (turkey, pulled pork, onion rings and fire roasted corn) and it came with a side of garlic bread, along with (to my dismay) only one container of barbeque sauce. I really prefer that BBQ joints offer different regional/types/flavors of sauce, and the only option was what tasted like something sticky, dark and sweet from a grocery store squeeze bottle. Smokey Bones was nothing short of a let down... My two friends and I decided on this restaurant after shopping at the Mall of Georgia. We were absolutely starving and from the outside and online menu it looked like it would absolutely hit the spot. We walk in around 6:30, and there was not a soul in sight besides the host. Obviously not a good sign, but we gave it the benefit of the doubt. Which I can say with full confidence, I will never do again. Our waitress takes our drinks and appetizer orders, and about five minutes after we put our entrees in. We get the fried pickles (not pictured), which do not come out until about 15-20 minutes after ordered. At this point we are at the 35 minute mark and still no food. The waitress has came to check on us once or maybe twice. Eventually our food comes out, and we are starving, ready to devour these meals. My two friends got wings with a side of mac&cheese, fries, and I got the green chili burger with fries. The burger was so underwhelming that I thought they had plated a big mac. The wings don't look that bad, but looks obviously aren't everything. They weren't heated well, and hardly rolled in sauce. All food that we had was unseasoned, bland, and overall just not good. I forgot to mention, make sure you bring a flashlight if you want to see/eat because this place makes Apple-bees lighting seem superior. After this very below mid food, we ask for the check. The check comes out and it the tip is included in the check. Not just any included tip...25% TIP!?! A $7 tip for poor service and bad food. Absolutely insane. We had a party of six and was seated pretty quickly. I had the bbq chicken, Mac and cheese, and a salad. My food was good but I couldn't finish it. My kids had lemon pepper wings and Mac and cheese. What happened to the old Smokey Bones that I knew and loved back between 2005-2007?? Back then I think they had one on Pleasanthill Road that I used to love to go to. I would ALWAYS order a full rack of baby back ribs and eat the whole thing by myself because they were so good. I would get back to work and wouldn't be worth anything. They were always on point! I used to go there on my lunch breaks but they closed down for some reason. I never had them again until a few days ago through an Uber order. My order was on time and everything else, but what happened to the ribs?? Order Arrived, Time to Eat: First and foremost, my pet peeve with BBQ is SMOKE!! I NEED to taste that smoke in BBQ because that's what make it BBQ in my eyes. The sides were great, even the ribs tasted good but it was missing the main element that I love tasting in BBQ and that's the smoke. I didn't get what I remembered back in those days. Judgement time while eating: I forgot the type of sauce I asked for, but it was on the ribs. Now I think Smokey Bones has become like some of these other places that want to depend on their sauce while not actually having the flavor. Case and point, if I would have ordered them with no sauce, I would have really been highly disappointed!! Why?? Because if they were naked, I wouldn't have tasted any smoke, and the seasoning would have been subpar at best. The only thing I tasted was the sweet sauce with no smoke and nothing else. Now, on the website it says smoked for 4 hours. Why did I not taste any smoke at all when your name is Smokey Bones?? Again, the sauce made the ribs good but you cant pass that by everyone. Especially the ones that know BBQ. Post Judgement on Everything: The sides were nice with no problem. I had the baby back ribs 1/3 cut. I don't understand why a lot of these places are trying to get away from smoke. I tried so hard, I mean really tried to taste smoke in those ribs and it got to the point where it reminded me of TGI Friday. Sauce will handle everything they think. They had issues with pick up orders (about 6 people were told food wasn't ready and not sure how long it would take) while we were waiting and we eventually went to another restaurant. We came in on a Sunday morning as they opened. The server was nice. The food came out as ordered and in a timely fashion The food it self was good BUT it was not heated properly. Just warm/ room temperature. Any one who has had a reheated baked potato knows it's a reheated potato. The restroom . I came to Smokey Bones for the first time last night. It was Monday night, and was pretty slow. I had seen the mediocre reviews, and was quite curious as I do remember that this opened with a certain degree of hype and fanfare. It is a nice layout and a nice concept. BBQ with Sports Bar. That said, I do think I will come back here to catch a game at some point at the bar. They have plenty of beers and mixed drink options. The food was hu-hum. The Brisket was good, not great, but good. Sides of grilled corn and mash and gravy were good. In my 2 item combo I also tried their sausage. To my surprise the sausages were "Bangers". I mean, straight up, British or Irish breakfast Sausages. The same ones I frequently receive for breakfast in European or Asian Hotels. The waitress, and I suppose many people in Gwinnett (or in Miami where this chain is based out of?) may not know banger sausages, but for me, banger sausages are not BBQ. The reality is that was really a disappointment. I mean even Dickey's chain BBQ gets their sausages right, with a tremendous Polish Sausage. A banger breakfast sausage at a BBQ place was just such a surprise for me. Bangers are cheap, heavy in fat, and rather bland. Indeed, perfect breakfast fare. Not so much for dinner at a BBQ place. I will try this place out again. Service was great, assortment of four sauces was good. The table next to ours had the Smokey Bones Grilled Platter of Ribs, and Steak and other fare. I will try that next time. There is value in a place that serves food late, and has a cool BBQ Sports Themed Environment. (Heads up this is a sit down and eat in review) The Delivery: Once again another Saturday I was in the mood for something new, some down south BBQ is what I had in mind, little did I know I def got what I asked for. Went to the mall to do some shopping and saw the local "Smokey Bones" restaurant and unlike everything else in the area, it was the only restaurant not packed to the brim with people. We walk in and are immediately seated, noting that the place well-kept and quiet but...that's because no one was in there, but I digress :P. After being seated out drink order were taken but if I recall I don't think everyone was wearing a mask, some people did and some people didn't. The Presentation: When ordering our food, we decided to get the (Loaded Fries) as the appetizer and seeing that it looks like more than the enough for two people, so we stopped at that. As for the main course we got the (SmokeHouse Mac) and the (Brisket Grilled Cheese). All came nicely prepared and on time, no complaints in that department except for one small tid bit which I will get into later when reviewing the food. The Taste: (Loaded Fries) Okay so that tid bit I mentioned above this is where it starts. The loaded fries came out looking nicely but as soon as I decided to dip my fork into it and grab just one, i noticed it was hard and partially cold on top. So, the cheese wasn't melted anymore and had cooled on top to the point that it was just one giant block of cheese stuck together on top. Anything below that warm at best but still too hard to eat so we just ultimately gave up on even attempting to eat it, unless it was on the bottom-bottom of the plate. (2/10) (Brisket Grilled Cheese) So this was my meal mind you, and everything looks all fine and dandy at first but once again.....it taste like oversweet crap. The brisket was dry, and the cheese wasn't melted. Now mind you i could put up with that cause i was starving at the time but then i go to dip it into the tomato bisque, it hits me like a truck. The tomato bisque is too sweet i thought i felt my blood sugar spike through the roof. I get it, tomatoes are naturally a bit sweet but why did it taste like someone dumped sugar in it. Needless to say,....it ruined my whole appetite, I just put it down and ate in the mac & cheese for the rest of the meal since you get a choice of one side, which was surprisingly decent. (3/10) (SmokeHouse Mac) Oh god this was worst thing out of all of them, wait answer this...you like BBQ sauce? If you answered yes, do you like ALOT of BBQ sauce? If it's still a yes, then multiple that by 3, that's what this tasted like. The entire bottom of the bowl was soaked in super sweet BBQ sauce, which ruined the whole meal. I get that it's a BBQ joint but there is a thing as to much! (3/10) The Conclusion: Not worth the time or money tbh, the place looks nice and is clean, plus the service is good butttttt the food is garbage......unless you like ALOT of BBQ...or you just want diabetes :P Covid Safe? I'm honestly appalled this place is still in business. Terrible food, terrible service. The food court in the mall was packed so we went out to get a table at Tin Lizzie's and they were closed so we went to Smokey bones because we needed a place to sit, feed the baby and eat. No hostess at the stand, waited for a hot minute and finally got seated. My mom and dad joined us a bit later and no one had waited on our table yet. Made a bottle, had to go get some ice from the bar and STILL no one had waited on us while the baby was almost done with a 7oz bottle. Finally someone came and said they thought we'd been taken care of because we had a cup of ice. We had been there at least half an hour. Put in drinks and appetizers. Got a soda and cup of water then apps and still no beers. Our 6 big pretzels came with about one or two dips of "beer cheese" which looked and tasted like white sausage gravy. Idk how the cheese fries were because the dip made me feel sick. I got the Brunswick stew and it literally tasted like ketchup, I took two bites. Still no ones food had come and I think we might have gotten our beers at that point. My mom had cold chicken on her salad. The Brunswick grilled cheese made my husband sick. I don't even know what my dad got but it was so smoky in the place I wish I had my inhaler with me. I felt sick the whole time I was in there, we were then rushed to pay our bill and got out of there as fast as we could. I still feel disgusting from just sitting in the place and it's been over 4 hours. I feel like if I had eaten enough of that garbage food I'd have food poisoning right now and my body just knew. Even the beer didn't taste right and I felt like the lines weren't clean. I'll never go in there again and urge others to stay away. We still gave a 20% tip which I slightly regret but I have worked in the industry. I truly think the health department needs to take a close look at this place. Bathrooms were filthy even though the restaurant was empty. Everything about it felt off and nasty. The flavor on the Memphis wings seemed like it would be really good if they were pulled off a little sooner. The broccoli seemed like it was about to turn and should have been tossed. I actually ordered the babyback ribs but they said they were out and only had the St.Louis style. I was ok with that but when I got my bill she still charged me for the babybacks. This place in the Mall of Georgia was a big mistake to visit. First off the place was very beautiful hardly anybody there. We were seated and they cleaned the table, but it still had that sticky feeling. Ordered draft 22oz. beer which was warm, asked and got a frozen 16oz glass which helped a little, also the volume between the 16 oz and 22 oz didn't seem 6 oz different. The only reason we came here was cause we received a text offering all day happy hour, which they were not offering. We decided to pay for our warm beers and blow the joint and I advise anybody else is thinking of coming forget it . I'm not want to write bad reviews. We went to Smokey Bones at the Mall of Georgia tonight. There was no one there. Yet the hostess was not up front and when she did arrive she seemed very sad and didn't seen she wanted to be at work today. We got seated and in about 5 minutes the waitress came over and took our order. She was pleasant. She brought our drinks fairly quick. Our order took 30 minutes for our food to come out and it was Luke warm. We don't complain and ate our Luke warm food. The waitress never came back to check on us. When she did come back she apologized for not coming back because she was working on go orders. Now I feel like go orders are more important than the customers in the rearurant. The problem I have is that I used to manage a resturant and just know way to much. I love giving reviews and raising up hard working people. I can't do it this time. They really need to wake up. We usually have a party of 6+ ... the Mac & good, I love the cinnamon apples! We also get the nachos- ITS HUGE! It comes with everything! I haven't eaten here in quite some time. While it wasn't horrible, just was never overly impressed either. Was thinking to give it another shot. But seeing their health rating, I'm gonna have to pass. They haven't had a decent score in quite a while. In fact some if the scores are terribly low. How are they still in business. Management needs to go back to serve safe and learn proper procedures and make sure employees are being compliant. Had to order from these guys because our order from an actually *good* place got cancelled. We've ordered from them once before and weren't impressed, but we just needed some barbecue. The good: The brisket was genuinely pretty good. Some of the better brisket I've had recently. The bad: Literally everything else. The ribs are mediocre and their barbecue sauce tastes worse than most grocery store sauces. The sides are ok but they're tiny. The garlic bread is ok but it's tiny. The ribs are tiny. They're actually baby back rib-sized. They're pretty awful, too. Maybe the small portion size is a blessing in disguise here. The brisket portion was tiny. $35+ for a few ounces of brisket? The sauce cups are tiny and you only get a couple. The cake was about 1/8 of the size of the picture they showed. It was a corner of half of a slice cake. A couple bites. Seeing a theme here? Don't order the nachos. Menu says they are covered in homemade queso. My daughter ordered nachos. Shredded melted dried up cheese on top layer. No cheese or cheese sauce below that. She had to order "extra" queso. Not good. Not worth the money. Nachos were so bad the manager took them off the bill. But better check your bill, too. They added someone else's drink to our order. Also. It would be good if wait staff knows what veggie burgers are made of. Our waitress told us that theY don't know what they're made of. That the come frozen in a big box. I see why the restaurant is always empty, it's because the customer service is POOR. I had to hog down the servers just for the check, a to go box and a cup?? That's pitiful! Not only that but the excuse was that they were understaffed. Well, that is not my problem. If I was told the moment that I stepped into this TERRIBLE restaurant, I would have had the option to wait for hours or not. But instead im sitting outside waiting for my food and confused as to why I am not being served. You people deserve no tips, they aren't going to just be handed to you while you can't even do the bare minimum. Communication is key that is the LEAST you could have done. Simply just notified us that we would be waiting a long period of time and that you guys were short staffed from the JUMP. And the waiter had the audacity to hand me a pen to give him a tip??? Being short staffed isn't the problem here. It's the lack of communication and the lack of team work. If you can see that your team member is struggling to serve as many table as they are serving, why sit at the bar and laugh with people ? What's funny?? My wife and I ordered a to go dinner today. She got the pulled pork tacos and I got the regular wings. The tacos tasted good, but the bottoms were soaked and not worth eating. My wife only ate about half of the tortillas, but the filling was good. The wings were definitely large. That is a positive. Beyond that, they were not great. The order was wrong. I ordered the regular (non smoked) and got the smoked wings. There was so little sauce that I could barely tell what flavor I picked. Also, they did not include the blue cheese. Ate here first week of May '21 so keep in mind how Covid May have affected our experience. Overall it was awful. Everything tasted as if it was out of a can or jar and simply reheated in the microwave. Our order of ribs was so dry, totally inedible end to end; we had no choice really but to send it back. Loved the patio area!! We were able to sit outside and watch the fountain without being in the direct sun. The inside was very nice and large as well. I liked that you could sit at the bar outside as well. The bbq beans were a little sweet but I loved them. The season corn was excellent. I was bummed you couldn't get brisket until 4pm but the baby back ribs & St. Louis ribs were both good. They messed up and brought the ribs with sauce instead of dry rub which I'm glad we had them fix because they were much better with dry rub. The Brunswick stew was a bit soupy and not thick like I prefer but it tasted good. The drinks were strong and great price plus there are a lot of options! The men's bathroom needed cleaning-paper towels were all over the floor. Service was good. We would definitely come back. read more

We went really late and we were the only people there lol. But the service was excellent. Friendly bartender. My food was excellent. I had salmon which was phonomenal. Sweet potato fries and fries green tomatoes. It was all good!!!! I don't understand why the ratings are so low. I highly recommend this place. Plus they are open until 2am. The food is delicious. I ordered the Texas brisket plate for ~$17. The brisket was pulled - you don't pull brisket. You slice it to keep the juices in the meat. This pile of pulled brisket was sticky and dry.
