sadly this place lived up to its rating....i just wished we would have checked it before we went in for lunch. the list of issues is long starting off with waiting at the hostess desk for over 5 minutes with not a worker in sight. once we were noticed we were promptly seated and gave our drink and appetizer order. both came out quickly and the fried pickles were really good. their ranch is yummy as well. they have really good deals on lunch specials, too. but the disappointment came when our food took an extremely long time....and when our food came it was only for half of us. my bowl had the wrong protein and the mac and cheese was barely warm and was missing the coleslaw. the grilled cheese with brisket was more of a brisket sandwich with cold cheese...same with the cheeseburger (cold cheese). we also had a to go burger and fries that we ended up canceling as it wasn't ready after an hour at the restaurant. the other tables seemed to be as frustrated as we were. if you aren't in a hurry and want mid food then this place is for you. we won't be back. read more

The first time my boyfriend and I tried Smokey Bones was for dinner, right after it opened- service was lacking but we chalked that up to new servers and still working out the kinks of opening a restaurant. We tried a little bit of everything, and ate off each other's plates. That night/ early morning we spent taking turns in the bathroom... enough said. Tonight, I would say a year later, we decided to give it another shot for a beer, appetizer, and a to-go dinner order after a movie. The attached picture is our appetizer. The soggy pretzel sticks were covered in butter and doused in salt. The "cheese" that came with it had a thick layer of grease/butter(?) floating on top that didn't go away even after stirring. It wasn't a creamy cheese texture, but chunky and weird. It was 6pm on a Sunday night and the place was dead. We sat at the bar and had to grab our own silverware-it was dirty. My beer glass smelled like dirty dishwater. Needless to say we canceled our to-go dinner order and left the appetizer after a few bites. We won't be returning to Smokey Bones. We came here with a massive group and I applaud the service. Granted, it was a weeknight so the restaurant was pretty empty otherwise, but they served our table of 36 quickly, accurately, and politely. We had 1 main server plus 1 "in training" server so basically one server tended to our entire table and that girl killed it. My most recommended items are the wings and sweet potato waffle fries. Omg the wings were amazing!!! Everyone was very happy with their meals. I also splurged on a slice of chocolate cake and I don't care what kind of diet you're on it's worth breaking for that cake!!! They were out of a lot of food and ingredients. I ordered the mahi and they were out of that so I got the salmon. They did not have the pineapple sauce that was supposed to go on top of the salmon. They were rude nobody tried to take 30 seconds to even try and greet us, ask us to have a seat, or even see why we were there. I love their food but the restaurant is a waste of a good product. Went on a Saturday with my partner and our good friend. We're from out of town. Intended to attend an event being held at the mall. Event was rescheduled. Decided to grab a bite here. Lord have mercy where should I start? My buddy's nachos that looked like tortilla chips with a quarter cup shredded cheese thrown in a microwave? Or maybe my $4.29 side of "Big Mac and Cheese"(?) that had virtually no taste? Not to mention the fact that my partner could count the number of fries served with his tough buffalo chicken sandwich. The only positive things I can say were that the tomato soup made me rethink my dislike of tomato soup, though the grilled cheese croutons in the soup tasted like they'd been made weeks ago. We don't live nearby. We will probably visit the mall again but I can guarantee we will not be setting foot in this place. Side note: I knew this place sounded familiar. MEAT-A-PALOOZA !!! Ok, my first review was NOT good (to say the least), but Phil F - Regional Manager for Smokey Bones reached out to me to ask if I could give them another chance. As I said in my first review, I want this restaurant to be good, so I agreed to come back with my family. Phil F and the GM, (Yarrii Barkley), greeted me and the family.They apologized for our previous experience and expressed how they could do better. OK, I thought, Game on! First, Beth, our server, and her trainee Ron were great, great servers. Our drinks were never empty, plates were cleared expeditiously and they were all around pleasant. APPETIZERS... We got several. The Bonfire, loaded nachos, smoked wings and rib sampler. The "Bon Fire". So I don't know if this is on Smokey Bones menus everywhere, but I highly recommend this for groups. It was large for our group of four, but certainly something you want an experience. It is essentially a sampler. Its got smokey grilled chicken breast, sausage, ribs, grilled peppers, chicken wings and potato wedges on it's own grill! Yes, they bring a tabletop grill and put it on your table. If that doesnt gets some oohs and ahhs from your group...get rid of them. All the meats were very, very good. The loaded nachos are in a word...loaded. Pulled pork, jalapeno, salsa, sour cream, tomato, and COVERED in cheese. We also got grilled wings with BBQ sauce, baby back and St. Louis style ribs. First the grilled wings. Normally I do NOT like grilled wings because the skin isnt crispy. These wings were grilled fantastically. Charred edges, semi-crispy skin, and a tangy sauce. And NOT overcooked. The ribs were pull off the bone, both types. In my book, ribs shouldnt fall apart, but you should be able to pull them apart by hand. The baby backs were pre-sauced and the St. Louis were more dry rubbed. Neither style too overpowering, but good amount of smoke, meat that was not over-done, which is easy to do with ribs. ENTREES... My daughters ordered the Morning Glory burger and Baby Back ribs. Already gave an A to the ribs, but the Morning Glory looked awesome. I didnt try it, but my daughter loved it, with the fried egg yoke slowly oozing down the burger. she commented that the burger meat was awesome on it's own, which cant be said for a lot of burgers. My wife got the Salmon, which she does not eat just seared or medium. In other words, you have to cook her fish fully. For some reason, restaurants cant seem to do this anymore. Smokey Bones hit it out of the park. Her salmon was smokey, slightly charred and on the outside, but just completely cooked on the inside which kept it juicy. I ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye. OH MY GOD it was good. It's marinated in pineapple juice and soy sauce. this will be one of my go to steaks from now on. Medium well is my preferred temperature and it was well cooked. Kudos on the steak. Desserts... HOT BAG OF DONUTS. Nuff' said. You know they are good. Extra points for the rasberry and Hot Fudge dipping sauces which tasted expensive and not runny. This is important to me. Dont serve me heated Chocolate Syrup and call it Hot Fudge. This was the real thing. Fried Krispy cookies. It was explained to me that this is an Oreo style cookie dipped in donut batter, the coated in Cocoa Kripies...then deep fried. It's served with vanilla ice cream. Normally, I wouldnt order this type of thing, but it was recommended. Glad I did! It's not super sweet or greasy at all. The interior cookie becomes molten like a hot cookies and creme and the cocoa krispies give some texture. Extra points for using quality vanilla ice cream. It makes a difference. I can honestly say I'm glad I went back. Great job and kudos to the staff of Smokey Bones Buford/Mall of Ga. If you had a bad experience before, go back, give them another shot. Smokey Bones has been at the MOG for a little while now and every time we have been by there, it smells pretty good. So we decided to give it a try today. The hostess was being helped by a manager (thankfully) bc she looked like she just woke outta bed and didn't have any idea how to go about seating people. After about 10 mins of a half empty restaurant, a nice lady came and took us to be seated in the bar area. She also turned out to be our server. She was the only bright spot in this experience. The menu is diverse, and maybe it was just what we ordered, but the food taste and portion isn't worth the pricing. Husband had a pick three so he got smoked sausage, pulled pork and 1/4 bbq chicken with potato wedges and cole slaw. The slaw had zero flavor. There were 3 potato wedges but they look deep fried verses baked. The meat portion was small and the flavor was far from expected. I had the Turkey plate with fries and beans. The beans were great. The fries weren't anything special and the taste and portion of the turkey weren't anything I would want again. Overall, we appreciate the server but the food vs the price doesn't add up. read more

We said we "wanted to sit at the bar", she said "she was overwhelmed, so we couldn't sit at the bar and to just wait at the front like she asked". I said no thank you, we'll go somewhere else and the F bombs started before she proceeded to get sassy with my lady while yelling over the people already sitting at the bar. Then she had the audacity to say to us " if we know anyone who needs a job to come see her " This place has continued to go down hill since Babbs left( former manager). Based off of what I saw today, not hard to see why people are not wanting to work there, her attitude was less than unprofessional. We will not be coming here again. We have been coming here for years and have given them multiple times to get it together and they just can't seem to do it. A one star rating is too generous for this outfit.
