Sweet local Bushwick restaurant right off the Myrtle Broadway stop. Thank goodness bank won't be broken coming here as drinks are under $10 for one and food is around $15 or less. The table and plate setting is awesome. I warn against late night drunk bites--though the nachos were good, they didn't seem particularly fresh. Then again, drunk me was too intoxicated to care about top notch quality food. Solid portions that leave you not hungry, but not bloated. The only negative is that it may take a while to get someone's attention to service you depending on how late of an hour you walk in. Thank goodness their kitchen is open until 2! read more

I've been visiting this spot for about a year now and it is a great addition to the Myrtle/Broadway area. It is mainly known for it's bar's late night party vibes but the food here is what really shines... Specifically the egg sandwich with avocado :P The wait can be a little on the longer side on the busier mornings, but the rest of Skytown's merits easily make up for this. But since one of the major draws here is the personable, conversational, and openly friendly staff/patronage, the time is easily passed anyways when you engage in the interpersonal conversations that can and always do arise. It's true that the joint can be pretty loud and it's not for everyone. This is still Myrtle/Broadway after all, you gotta compete against the Subway. I love that it is always diverse in regard to ethnicity, age, and cultural background (perhaps one of the most diverse that I've come across in North Brooklyn). I've had plenty of friendly conversations and meaningful social experiences here, and the chill music and great food is also great of course. Gonna stop going here because this Serbian bartender is a real prick. My girlfriend and i have spent a lot of money here and this guy wants to harp on us over a 5$ dollar glass of wine that we forgot to pay for after already tipping him and the other bartender over 100$ collectively. He approached us and raised the subject, we apologized and offered to pay for it which he turned down but then continued to harass us about it telling us that we should feel stupid and be embarrassed to show our faces there. Finally... Somewhere close to home where I can get delicious and healthy food that I don't need to cook myself! AND coffee to go in the morning en route to the JMZ that doesn't come from dunkin donuts or a bodega. I've been here several times now and have been thrilled with my food and service each time. Everyone here is super friendly and welcoming, no snooty "I'm hipper than you" attitude here (thank heavens). I'm not sure why another reviewer said this place isolates all the people that live in the neighborhood. The prices are super reasonable, and like I said, it's such a warm atmosphere. They must just prefer to eat at Popeyes and hang out on the corner? Anyhow, they have a full bar, breakfast, lunch and dinner and the menu has changed slightly each time I've been in. My last visit I had a bowl with brown rice, red cabbage, some of the best black beans I have ever tasted, and feta. So damn good! From my understanding, most or all of the veggies come from Brooklyn Grange, and they are using local ingredients and fresh, locally baked bread. They also have STUMPTOWN coffee (hooray!!!) and get this, homemade almond milk. What??! Thank you skytown, I look forward to a long and happy relationship. read more

Lets be honest. This place has a cool look. They did a great job renovating and making it their own. But how can you 86 coffee in the morning? Not to mention 20 minutes to make an egg sandwich. I literally saw 7 people that looked like the worked there just wander. Seems kinda silly. I absolutely love this place. Within 5 minutes of my first visit I felt like I was in an extension of my living-room. I sat down at the end of the bar and the barista/bartender/new-bestfriend brought me my drink right away (contrary to some other reviews.) Midway through my drink I was approached, and sadly the little chat we had was not flirting but a tactful request for my food order. Since my usual diet consists of UTZ spicy potato chips and Burritos I didn't recognize any of the ingredients and was weary of what seemed to be another fancy-named-food co-op-vegan-yoga dish that should end up on instagram rather then my stomach. This is probably the worst experience ive had since ive moved to this area. From the nonchalant , less than welcoming greeting to literally being poked to death by patrons (as if I didnt belong) to move out of their way so they could feel comfortable. I guess this place isnt meant for a young poc woman bc i literally felt like a outcast. Down to the point to where I asked for my check the bartender said sure but the non poc man next to me asked for his check as well and was delightedly asked are you sure you dont want another beer? I even tried to make small talk and was met with a not so welcoming responses as if I was annoying them. Wont be coming back or ever recommending. Im also a floor mamager at a popular restaurant and bar so I know what to expect in customer service! They play great music, and have reasonably priced drinks made in more than capable hands. My friends and I also like to come hang for brunch on Sundays too, they have excellent Bloody Marys and an especially delicious egg sandwich. The food is decent but time and time again my meal is ruined by the most inattentive servers. I live in the neighborhood and wish this could be my go to spot but it just always disappoints. You literally have to stand up, wave, and yell at someone to get anything you need. Plus coffee is self serve which is just lazy and lame. Holy god that was good! My WIfe and I had dinner last Friday at Skytown, a new cafe/bar that just opened a couple of weeks ago. Very nicely done interior with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and a really nice overall vibe. Had a couple of interesting beers (the IPA was outstanding!) and a sip of some sort of amazing lemonade cocktail with fresh blueberries that I think the bartender invented right on the spot...if I hadn't been driving later that night I might still be there drinking them! But the food- holy cow. We shared a lamb sausage sandwich and a roasted yellow beet sandwich that was simply and astoundingly good. The beet slices were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and somehow magically I could taste all of the individual flavors of the various fresh greens inside the sandwich. The bread was crispy on the outside, and chewy/yeasty tasting on the inside- just the way I like it. Add in some amazing roasted potato slices and several very tasty dipping sauces, and this was a memorably delicious dinner. Their food artistry and the care they put into selecting and preparing their dishes is evident throughout- very highly recommended. read more

Bartender here (tattoo jerk) is possibly the worst person in Bushwick. Totally rude. Brought me the wrong order. Overcharged my beer. Purposefully was on my case after I asked him to change my order. Hands down my FAVOURITE place on Broadway in Bushwick. Within the first visit, I was greeted like a regular, and have since become one! Staff are very friendly, approachable, and actually interact with their guests like real people, which seems like a lost art in today's hospitality world...but they nail it, every time!!! I mostly come to drink and meet people, but at the same time I've NEVER had a bad meal, in fact I'll make a point to eat there weekly. LOVE THE CHICKEN TACO'S, and the stew, don't even get me started ! Quick and friendly service. Festive atmosphere. Relatively affordable. Handful of customers here on a Thursday evening. Most entrees were about $10-$12. Draft beer for $6-ish. Wine was expensive. Never understood the crazy markup on wine ($9/10/11 a glass?) Guess the restaurant science says to keep wine prices high, but eh, I'll go grab a few bottles down the street. Not a huge fan of this place. It has promise and maybe it was just the night I went & bartender I had but it wasn't very inviting. She barely paid attention to me to order a drink or make conversation. There weren't many other patrons here except a friend of he bartender and a couple of sketchy looking guys in the corner. They were playing reggae music and the ambiance was cute, which is why I'm giving 3 stars, but otherwise I didn't enjoy it. My second time at Skybar and I must say the service was great once again. I just wish there were more items to select off of the brunch menu. The first time I ordered myself an omelet. Although the menu lists just regular eggs they were very accommodating to my preference of just egg whites. This go round I ordered the fried chicken and waffles topped with bananas and a syrup. The food took a while to get to the table, which is my only complaint, but my grilled cheese was delicious and the staff is very friendly. I'll definitely be back soon.
