My husband, Mitchel, and I were looking for a new brunch spot in Clayton and decided to give Skylar a try. I'm so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Aor and B who were so kind, attentive, and made us feel welcome. Mitchel ordered the Benedict Trio (Bacon, Fried Chicken, & Ham Benedict) while I went with the Fried Chicken Benedict, and our dishes were delicious. We also shared the waffles, which were packed with flavor and the perfect sweet addition to our meal. The food, service, and atmosphere all exceeded our expectations. Cute restaurant, nice happy hour and great service. We decided on this place after finding a parking spot next door. We walked in and they had open tables, so we grabbed one. The ladies working here were very kind and attentive and took our order quickly. We grabbed a few items off the happy hour menu, a Thai tea, an Arnold Palmer and a Paloma. It was good and presented in a very attractive manner. Also, not sure if this is a Clayton thing, but everyone was so friendly and kind. One of our favorite weekend spots for a laid-back afternoon. Servers, Aer and Bee, are really sweet and attentive! The Maui Waui beer and Thai iced tea always hits the spot for us! Oh what a find on a lazy. Sunday morning!!! Drove over a windy wooded area around Mt Diablo to reach this area of Clayton which had not quite woken up. The Skylar Bistro was open and inviting! Bee, our waitress, who shares the same same Nickname as my better half, welcomed us with a big smile and funny chatter. A coffee later we orders our breakfast . My Benedict trio was just perfectly cooked and so was the breakfast burrito that my wife ordered. The highlights were the sides my extra crispy hash browns was exactly that - deep brown, extra crispy and so tasty and portion was huge. The country potatoes with the burrito was lightly fried, with just hint of seasoning and soft inside. Exactly the way we love our sides! All this at a place that served Thai cuisine for main meals. It's was a perfect Sunday breakfast place for us ... not too crowded... very relaxing, amazing service , nice music choices & favorite amongst the locals... We started with regular coffee- Breakfast Burritos - Three eggs, bacon, sausage, baby Spanish Cheddar Cheese Served with home fries. Benedict trio Delight - Combination of the three kind eggs Benedict, crispy Parma ham, eggs Florentine and Smoked Salmon Benedict. From the side we added HashBrown extra crispy. Everything was fantastic, loved their ingredient quality & freshness. This was by far the best Hash brown we had... very crispy but not oily at all... very few restaurants can make it perfectly.... For me the burrito was excellent... wanted to taste the sausage so didn't add anything extra for spice...People who like extra kick can ask I think they will accommodate it. Brought my mom here for brunch on Mother's Day. Risky since we did not have a reservation but we took a chance with it just being 2 of us. I'm glad we did! They were swamped but they were able to seat us at a high top counter outside. It was a bit windy that day so we asked if they could turn on the outdoor heater, but they didn't get around to it. Luckily the wind calmed down. Our wait times to order and to receive our food were great, especially with how busy it was. We were checked on an appropriate amount, and all staff we interacted with were friendly. Now the grub! I got the fried chicken benedict and it came with a side of potatoes. I thought the chicken was nicely cooked, moist inside while crispy and flaky on the outside and a good sized portion. One of my eggs was a little tooo runny but the other was good. I thought the potatoes could use a little bit of seasoning but otherwise were cooked nicely. My mom really enjoyed her crispy Parma ham Benedict. She said her eggs were perfectly cooked, medium runny lol, and she liked the flavor of their hollandaise. She also said the coffee was good! I'd say prices are competitive for the area. Overall we enjoyed our experience and it's nice to have a cute lil restaurant like this in the area. We would like to go back to try some Thai lunch or dinner! read more

A little gem in Clayton that my family and I are so happy we found. The staff is extremely helpful and very pleasant. We've gotten to know all of them very well, Aor, Bee, Andrea and the owner Nicki. They aim to please everyone. The ambiance is lovely with beautiful flower bouquets on your table and a laidback atmosphere. The food is delicious. The pad Thai, drunken noodles, crab fried rice and many appetizers. They make wonderful drinks from margaritas, martinis, a good wine selection and my favorite Aperol Spritz. They have a wonderful brunch menu that we've gone to several times. It's definitely worth the visit to downtown Clayton. read more

My husband, my friend, and I (along with our dogs) were walking around downtown Clayton and decided to check this place out for brunch. It was pretty quiet downtown in general (Saturday around 1pm) so it was a low-key environment when we arrived. They offer 2 different menus for brunch and dinner. For brunch they offer a lot of classics - egg dishes, waffles, sandwiches. For dinner, they serve Thai food. Since we had our dogs with us, we chose a nice shaded table outside. The server immediately brought water to the table. We all admired the one large cube of ice in our glasses which was a nice aesthetic touch. She saw our dogs and she was kind enough to bring out a water bowl for them too without us even having to ask. She was very attentive to keep refilling our water glasses (it was very hot today) and even left a pitcher of water for us on the table per request. My husband ordered the Salmon Benedict. My friend ordered the 3-egg omelet. I ordered the Turkey Club sandwich. All the dishes came out beautifully plated. The turkey club was quite big- stacked with turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on toasted sliced white bread. It wasn't anything super fancy but it was done very well. It also came with fries that were seasoned and served hot! A very filling lunch meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice to have a good brunch spot in downtown Clayton. I came here with my husband around 11AM on a Sunday. The place was a decent size, not very big with some nice decoration. There were a lot of flies inside though. It wasn't that crowded and getting seated was quick, but ordering and getting the food took an extremely long time. They look very understaffed and most people working there seems very new as well. I got the loco moco and my husband got the crab omelet. The loco moco meat was undercooked and the sauce was a bit sour. The crab omelet was very fishy and the egg was overcooked. I wanted to let a waitress know the meat was a bit too raw for me to eat, but none of them looked up to help. It took awhile to get someone to come to our table, but Sai (sp?) saw me with my hand up and was very helpful. She took the plate to get it redone. Getting the new one took awhile, but she even gave us complimentary unsweetened iced tea. The new one was cooked better, but they forwent the garnish. Sai wasn't our original waitress as our waitress didn't come back to help us after we received our food. Looking around, we could see a lot of people just sitting at their table waiting for someone to take their orders or waiting for their food to arrive. Overall the food & service was 3/5. Sai was the contributing factor of raising the service score up for us. read more

This is my second visit, and I continue to be impressed by their beautiful outdoor seating. It's now a great spot for brunch, offering lots of delicious options on the menu. Been here 3x and the new ownership did a fantastic job listening to the feedback, change up the menu and hired a new team and chef. Place is nicely decorated and super cute. I went for breakfast and dinner so far and my fav is seafood noodles. Good portion and pair it with wine made it a lovely Saturday dinner. I had the thai fusion before and I really liked the chicken skewers. Breakfast I had the all American and I asked for a bit more potatoes and bacon, owner was super accommodating to ensure I enjoyed the meal. Place is super clean, excellent staff and gives me a cozy neighborhood vibes type of restaurant. New bistro in Clayton that has Thai food in the afternoon starting at 4pm! They are open at 10:00am and with a party of 7, with only 1-2 capacity tables for a large party, my suggestion first off is to come early if you are coming with family. Most of the tables are small, so we luckily got the only large table they can really accommodate (maybe 1 more large party). Food came out fairly quickly, customer service is great. I just think the food needs a bit more wow factor to it! our critiques include more sauces for almost everything and while the flower and very small bid of lettuce was aesthetically pleasing, the balsamic taste just did not make sense personally with breakfast and it was really small lettuce so it didn't feel at all like a side. Portions are fair, not huge for a bistro/breakfast spot. I'd love to see different sides instead of salad. Would I come again? Yes absolutely to support local, but I didn't feel our typical "I'm full" for mom and pop breakfast grubbing as you may feel at other breakfast spots. Nonetheless still enjoyed it, but we do see room for improvement in menu. More syrup please!!! The breakfast burrito had tomatoes (despite not on menu) and no hash-browns inside despite assuming it was an American style breakfast burrito they would be. Kid friendly? Very clean highchair but no crayons or paperwork, oddly the kids menu did not have breakfast items so I'd probably come back without my kiddo. read more

This place is great! A quaint little bistro in Clayton, cozy with seating either inside or out. I usually come for breakfast/brunch on Sunday mornings. Today I had loco moco, with a rich sauce and a sunny side egg on top. Very flavorful and filling, though I personally add salt. I also had an order of calamari, which was chewy without being rubbery. And not heavily breaded. Service is wonderful. Today Bee waited on me, coming by every so often to check on me without feeling like she was hovering like some places have. She always had a smile on her face, whether bringing food or mixing a flavored milk. Nikki also sometimes comes out to interact with customers, which is pleasant to see the face behind the food. Overall, a cute bistro in a nice area to stop by for some breakfast, or Thai food. I'd recommend you give it a try. read more
