    Mixed berries French toast

Great food with above and beyond service. For a homemade taste in their their dishes and some I can't make at home ones are all excellent. This time tried something different out of their extensive menu. Wonderful coffee, decaf or regular. Great variety in their breakfast and lunch menu. Even special offerings for children. Even a couple of outside tables for the nicer days. Which we are starting to enjoy. Give them a try. Easy parking in front or on the side of the building.

Downtown Cafe's Manager (green shirt), and waitress (in black). And an empty restaurant, for seemingly obvious reasons.

Second time going, after the first experience felt lacking; both due to the food preparation, and service. But since there aren't many family style restaurants in the area -- I decided to give the spot another try about (4) months later. Regretful decision. Orded a simple mixed-berry waffle combo & asked that my eggs be prepared "fried hard". Why were the eggs literally jiggling, as the waitress set the plate down? She even noticed, but tried to walk away anyhow. I politely requested the eggs be prepped correctly, but kept the waffle. BTW: there's a $2 upcharge for fruit (which is common). But, why did my plate only come with EXACTLY (8) blueberries and the equivalent of 1.5 sliced strawberries?? To make matters worse, the waitress returned my plate with still runny egg yolks -- which I didn't eat, as I don't eat runny eggs. The biggest issue, besides the ill-prepared simple breakfast, was the attitude of the heavily-tattooed flamboyant guy managing the place. As the waitress explained to him why I was sending my plate back, he would look over at me / my table -- flailing his hands with a look of disgust. And at this point, I was the only one on that side of the little restaurant, so there was no mistaking the vibes. To cap it off, he later comes over to my table, literally leaning over my plate to arrogantly explain the 'fruity issue' (pun intended). I'd had enough, and asked him to give me some space, the bill, and a 'to go' box. A mild argument ensued, where he tried to belittle me by asking how long I've been in California, to not understand the price of fruit -- claiming "I've been here for (7) years, so even I know..." Buddy: I'm born & raised "Cali". But your attitude, lack of professionalism, and an inability to get a simple breakfast right are the real issues. I explained how this was my 2nd--and likely, last--time coming; to which he arrogantly suggested it should be. (If we were 'on the streets' this is the kind of behavior that might get you smacked in the mouth.) My suggestion: go to the Lighthouse Cafe (literally only a block away) for your Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, snacks...whatever. But "Caveat emptor" (may the buyer beware) if you choose to eat at this establishment. Not only is the food prep an issue, but the flamboyant arrogance of the little manager guy officially ensured I'll never patronize the Downtown Cafe EVER again. Interesting enough: I also haven't had a conflict with anyone regarding services--for at least (4+) years. Way to go, guy. No wonder the place was almost empty, when there's already very few eateries around.

Well my first time here. Pittsburgh's a little bit out of the way but I like to go to some nearby places sometimes.. nice little downtown area. Comfortable atmosphere relaxed. First of all probably the best coffee I've had anywhere very delicious I don't know what kind it is but I like it I wanted to get some more to go Was initially disappointed because it didn't have biscuits and gravy, the only thing that had gravy was the chicken fried steak and I wasn't going to try that it looked a little bit too heavy. I had the bacon and eggs with a country potatoes. The potatoes were delicious perfect cooked right. The eggs were okay bacon nice portions I like mine cooked a little more though. I asked for sourdough bread toast and it wasn't toasted so I was a little bit curious about that. But it worked. Staff was nice and attentive and I like the ambiance Have a nice diverse menu a lot of selections for a place that small I would recommend it

Decided to get out for some breakfast and tried the new cafe. You seat yourself & wait. The server was engaged in convo w/the cook & closing a tab so it took a couple mins to get a menu. There's quite a bit to choose from. I went w/a waffle combo. Waffle was fluffy & moist inside but could have used some crunch on the exterior. The berries were good. Over-medium eggs were cooked nicely, a minute longer would've been perfect for me. I asked for bacon but also got a sausage. The bacon was cooked nicely but it had that off aftertaste found in some bacon. It didn't ruin the meal, it's just one of those things that you get from time to time. Overall it was a good meal.

OMG! If you want great service and a great meal that won't break you bank, this is the spot in downtown Pittsburg. The Bistro Burger had my husband humming a tune and the Tuna melt was flavorful and the sourdough toast was crunchy but did not hurt the top of my mouth.(If you know you know). The place is clean, the kitchen is an open concept and the service was super friendly and attentive. 10/10.

The food was good. The service was great. Our server/waiter was very friendly. He was fun to talk to! The place is not so big but it is very homey and clean including the restroom! I would definitely go back there...

We ran across this gem as we were in the area. Wait time was short and everyone was so pleasant and friendly. The food was delicious and definitely would love to go back. They have two table to sit on the outside and it was perfect on the sunny day we were there. Everyone in this establishment is friendly, professional and helpful.

Absolutely recommend! 5 stars…read more Don't let the industrial area or the tucked-away spot on Harbor St fool you--this place is a straight-up hidden gem! A lot of folks probably drive right by because it's not in the fancy part of town, but man, once you step inside (or order ahead), you're in for some of the best Italian subs and homemade sausage around. The sausage is made in-house and it's unreal--juicy, perfectly seasoned, with that authentic bold flavor you can't fake. We got the Italian Dip (loaded with their pork/beef sausage blend, onions, garlic, mushrooms) and it was next-level: rich, savory, and the bread soaks up every bit of that au jus goodness without falling apart. The cold Italian sub was stacked high with premium meats, fresh veggies, and just the right balance--total classic done right. Service was super friendly and welcoming, like family running the spot. The ambiance is no-frills (think casual counter, quick grab-and-go or eat nearby), but that's part of the charm--it's all about the food, not the flash. If you're craving real-deal Italian sandwiches and homemade sausage without the crowds or hype, make the detour. This small family-owned spot is worth it every time. We'll be back for more! This time I got the Italian cold cut and the dip . Also a few of the sausages . She always has a nice welcoming vibe to her and they were playing classics inside . Cute clean per usual . But the sandwiches !!!! Did I say last time they make the bread fresh every day ! The Italian cold cut was so fresh . Meat thinly sliced and stacked to perfection. Literally you don't need to add nothing to their sandwiches what's so ever ! And every bite it's like biting into a cloud ! The bread is so soft , perfect amount of cheese like . So big it lasted me till the next day ! They are my favorite Italian deli as of right now !!! Actually I don't think I've ever been to one like this at all ! Also tried the dip . It's smaller than the cold cut but sooo rich in flavor like robust! Meat was tender . The sauce was perfect not salty at all . The sausages we used for breakfast and everyone loved them ! Honorable mention : whatever they do to the arugula is lowkey but high key what sets it off with the freshness of everything ... but the dressing on that arugula = yummy !!! Come come come if you haven't yet come and if you have before, come and try them again because I can't see them failing in my eyes !!!

The woman I spoke to on the phone said they're made around 9:45 AM, so I came back around 9:30 to pick them up. They were piping hot when I got them but unfortunately we ate them about 2 hours later because we brought them to an Alcatraz tour. These seem different from the ones I had when I went to PHS. They're definitely bigger and don't remember them being so dense (then again I haven't had one in ages). It's basically a Sloppy Joe with ground beef, a lot of ketchup, onions, cheese, and bread. Very simple ingredients but a ton of nostalgia. Anyone who went to PHS would say they adored the Pittsburger, so if you're feeling nostalgic on a Friday morning, definitely order one.
