Spicy fried flounder sandwich with collard greens
Victoria M.

Had to update my review ... Okay so the first time I went here during a weekday I was so excited and was super impressed by pretty much everything that I kept bragging about it so much my dad eventually wanted to go. Well we took him on a Friday evening and as we're ordering we asked if we could get tartar sauce with our meal but the lady informs us they didn't have any ... pause ... how are you going to run out of tarter sauce at a FISH PLACE on a FRIDAY!!!! My dad said when she said that he knew it wasn't going to be good ... so we go to sit down as we wait for our food and I go use the restroom. As I go to wash my hands there's no soap or any paper towels. Literally the soap dispenser was gone ... so then that made me raise an eyebrow on the hygiene of the employees. So I come out of the bathroom and go to sit when the lady at the register (who was nice and was trying her best despite seeming tired and busy) calls me up and informs me they ran out of chicken (my husband ordered a chicken sandwich). At this point I was ready to honestly just ask for a refund but we just stuck it out. When we get our food it was okay, but I think in our minds because of everything prior it affected the taste of the food. I definitely won't be back here for a while which sucks because I was so excited about it the first time but I'm learning not to brag on places until I've eaten there at least 3 times.

Big Cat, massive, fresh and delicious!

Can't believe I've been working in this neighborhood and just found Skrimp Shack. Went with a coworker and decided to split the Oyster Po Boy and The Big Cat. Big Cat was a winner, a huge sandwich piled with fresh fried catfish, cheese, pickles, lettuce and tomatoes. Po Boy a little underwhelming but still good. Both came with fried okra and a spicy dipping sauce. Derrick who took our order was super friendly and helpful. Would definitely return here if craving a fish sandwich.

The best seafood and the best customer service. Best fried shrimp I ever ate. Even the iced tea is great! Reasonable pricing.

Listen! My hair stylist referred me and when I say they did not disappoint!!! Baby!!! The food was tasty and piping HOT! I couldn't eat much but if I were a person with a big tummy...nom nom would be the answer! The ambiance was nice and chill...very southern and I adore it so so much! Thank you for such warm regards and attention to your customers!

These were super good! I asked for them extra extra crispy, and this is what I got. I'll visit these folks for shrimp in Durham.....bc they were really good, but I don't think they understood the assignment. The service was really good, and the manager came around a few times to make sure everything was great. This is the best shrimp I've eaten in a while. The fries were crispy and tasty. The slaw wasn't the greatest to me, but the coworker I was with ate all of it. It was a great basket for a great price.

We walked in, ordered, sat down and the food was ready within 10 minutes! The food, environment and service were phenomenal. Very friendly staff! Will definitely be returning!

A good place for reasonably priced seafood. Really enjoyed how the fried taste wasn't too strong and balanced well with the light taste of the seafood. Definitely recommend if you're into fried seafood!

This is the best fish restaurant in a 2000 mile radius of Durham NC. If you haven't tried their fish, then you haven't had the most amazing fried fish in the world.

Supposed to be Catfish.

This is NOT catfish. I have no clue what kind of fish it is, but it's catfish. I took it back once and they said it was. It was very thin. Kind of flavorless. I suggest a different type of fish if you go there.

It was good! Nos as good as I was expecting but I enjoyed it. The fish was a lil dry but the shrimp were big and the sauces ok.

That's the first thing you notice--plenty of parking. I had no trouble finding a spot on two separate visits this week. Inside, it's a cozy setup with a bar, table seating, and an outdoor patio area. It has that laid-back oyster shack feel. The patio looks like it could be dog-friendly, though I didn't confirm. The place is clean, and the staff are genuinely friendly across the board--welcoming without being overbearing. Food-wise, it delivers. On my first visit, I had steamed clams and steamed Gulf shrimp. Both were phenomenal. The clams were sweet and perfectly cooked, and the shrimp was just as impressive--simple, fresh, and done right. Second visit, I went a different route and ordered a hamburger--yes, at a seafood spot. Running keto, I skipped the bun, and it turned out to be a great call. Cooked exactly to order and full of flavor, it held its own against the seafood. Whether you're coming in for oysters on the half shell, fresh seafood, or even a solid burger, this place covers it. Make sure to check the chalkboard specials--that's really where the menu shines, with daily deals that are worth the visit.

It's small, but comfortable and inviting. Renee single handedly with ease and a smile served 6 tables while I was there. She never seemed rushed or overwhelmed. We started with the Happy Hour special (4pm - 6pm) raw oysters (or steamed) for $1.50 each. They were good. We then ordered our entrees. I had the Fried combo with oysters, shrimp and fries...absolutely delicious and fried perfectly. My daughter had the Lobster Roll and fries. She said it was really good and was pleasantly surprised. We had a great dinner and loved the service Renee provided!

The ceviche was bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced, and the chips served alongside it were oh so good. The tortilla soup was the next course...and it was nicely spiced, comforting, and warming. The braised beef short rib tacos were great--the pickled veggies really added a punch of flavor that tied everything together beautifully. As far as the cocktails go...the winter pearita was delightful--I could have happily had a few more of those. Dessert surprised me the most. I'm usually not a tiramisu person since I'm not big on coffee, but their Mexican chocolate tiramisu won me over. The coffee flavor wasn't overpowering at all and it had almost horchata-like vibes. Overall, the menu felt incredibly thoughtful, cohesive, and delicious from start to finish. The restaurant itself is super cute and perfect for a date night. Service was fantastic as well--our server, Mikayla, was attentive, on top of everything, and made the experience even better. Would absolutely recommend.

It was a little confusing finding the restaurant and the hosts kindly walked me through how to get there. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were very attentive. They frequently checked in and made sure my water never got too low. I got the broiled oysters drogos style and they were AMAZING. There was so much parmesan cheese and the garlic butter was so good I could almost drink it. I just wish I got more bread so I could enjoy the cheese and butter more. Not that it matters too much but I was expecting charbroiled oysters on the half shell like in New Orleans, but these oysters come already shucked without the shell. The NC Catfish on the other hand was good, but not great. The catfish was crispy. The beans, rice, and pork were perfectly cooked. However, the meal tasted very bland and underseasoned, which was so surprising for a New Orleans inspired restaurant, and the pork portion was extremely small
