Love this place when it comes to the food! The appearance isn't much but it's clean, the food is hot and on point as far as taste goes...! I ordered the 3x3x3 (fish, shrimp & oysters) and I chose the coleslaw and fries as my sides. The food came out perfectly and the right temperature. Guys....run, don't walk. This is seriously SO good. The wings were so good, well fried, well sauces. The fried green tomatoes were awesome! Sometimes you can tell when fried green tomatoes have been frozen, these are NOTHING like that. These might be the best fried green tomatoes I've ever had. The fish and shrimp were both delicious. I love you can chose from several types of fish, though that's not clear from the website. I was told they even had whole fish. My husband and I ordered flounder. He said he wasn't sure it was flounder though it could well be baby flounder. In any case, it was mild and good tasting. I love you can choose fried or grilled and ask allergens to be left off. But gluten free people need to note the fries are breaded. I ordered fried flounder and my husband ordered grilled. Yhe grilied had some kind of seasoning I liked. Mixed; the cole slaw was a little spicy which is not to my taste. Given that and the fact other reviewers have said the green beans taste like canned with no seasonings, I wished there were more side options that weren't carb heavy. The negatives. The breading on my fish was extremely salty. I like salty okay so it wasn't a real problem for me. I guess it could have been the batch of breading. I didn't notice the salt as much on the shrimp breading though that could have because the ratio of breading to seafood was higher on them fish. I didn't care for the oysters. This is a franchise operation of a fast food chain that originated in Louisiana about 10 years ago. The food we had, a Shrimp Po'Boy and a Shrimp Platter, were not bad, but not spectacular, either. Nothing seemed especially fresh tasting, in fact the roll for the po'boy was several days past it serve time. This place is soooo good. It took me a while to get over here since it's just a touch further than my usual takeout places, but man do I wish I had come sooner. After I ate here the first time, I kept craving the fried catfish and cajun tartar sauce and ended up returning within the next week. If you're craving fried fish, Sam's is tasty and cheap - what more could you ask for? The fish is lightly coated, fried fresh and flaky, and topped with some salty cajun seasoning. (There's also a shaker of the seasoning at the counter, so you can pile some more on if you'd like.) The seafood comes out crispy, but not greasy. I prefer the catfish because they're heartier, but the other fish is great as well. The jumbo shrimp are pretty meaty too! I only wish they had a combo with catfish and shrimp together. The sides are more meh. The fried okra is only ok, but I love okra so I get it every time. The mac & cheese is a hard pass - it was pretty disappointing - not creamy enough and the pasta was too soft. The potato salad is good though, and can help you feel a little less guilty and greasy after eating a fried entrée. The food can be a bit slow, but that's because the fish is fried to order. It's still much faster than other fish/fried food places in town, so I won't complain. So far, I've only come for dinner, but the lunch specials look amazingly cheap. For just $5.50, you can get two fish, a side, and a drink - which is an absolute steal. I'm definitely coming back for lunch next time. read more

I placed a to-go order from Sam's Southern Eatery recently and I was pleased with my experience. I ordered the seafood meal of fried fish, shrimp, and oysters with fried and col-slaw as sides. I placed the order on-line and was given an estimated time when my order would be ready (It was fulfilled via Grub Hub). When I arrived I just went through the drive-thru and my order was ready with no wait. The portion was huge! (and pricey at $20+ with tax and tip). I was especially impressed with the amount of fish they give you. There weren't many shrimp(3), but the shrimp were very large and delicious. The fried oysters weren't the best, but oysters are better raw or steamed in my opinion (There was an option to get broiled instead of fried, but it's hard not to go with the unhealthy option). I was impressed with my food at Sam's Southern Eatery enough that I would go back again either for the seafood or chicken wings. They offer a pretty wide variety of food so I am sure there are other options on their menu that are delicious as well. read more

Let me start by saying the customer service was great. My food was ready when I got there (ordered through grub hub). Those were the only two things good about the experience. My Grilled Chicken salad was not good.. at all. There was lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers ( a few ) and pickles ( a few ). The chicken had a little bit of flavor to it.. which was probably the most appetizing thing about the salad. The ranch was DISGUSTING and came straight from a bottle. And my mozz sticks tasted like straight up oil. After tip and ordering from Grub hub.. for just myself on TWO items, I spent about $30.. for nothing. Thought we would try the Montgomery store out. Went online and it doesn't say anything about dine in, only Carryout. & No delivery. Order single burger with no pickle, onion, & bell pepper. Ordered a double burger with onions only, NO Mayonnaise. Doesn't state it comes with fries, so we order a lg order of fries plus Cole slaw. Was going to order other appetizers but figure had enough money wise. Picked up order and that's when we see we could have dined in. Get home and find that the double burger HAD mayonnaise on it plus it comes with fries. Got NO receipt, called them to let them know the order was wrong, gal says hold on. Finally, as I'm driving back a gal comes on and says yes? I said, ok? and she like what are we talking about (same gal)! So, tell her and she goes well if you want to come back, we will remake it. So, I say OK, just no Mayo, and suggest they put on website that they have dine in and that the orders come with fries. Get there and tell the gal that we would have dined in if the website stated it...she comes back with WELL of course we have Dine in. Didn't offer any type of appetizers for my extra trouble. Outside Sam's is nothing to look inside either but it's extremely clean and the food is exceptional!! I had the #37 Combo "Oysters and Shrimp", with a side salad and french fries. It was really good and fresh but what I loved most is that it wasn't greasy and the oil wasn't burnt/old. My friend had the same but choose grilled shrimp vs friend. I'm a fan of s good tarter/remoulade sauce and their's is a cajun starter made homemade and it's so delicious. No I couldn't tell you about the Mac&Cheese because I don't eat everyone 's but it didn't look that great and my friend said the coleslaw was ok. We LOVED everything else. Just picked up my Fried Gizzard 2/18/23 at 9pm. Horrible! Taste like they were cooked in 2wk old oil. No salt, pepper, no seasoning at all. If you don't know how to cook the item...86 it. The corn on the cob is delicious along with their French fries, potato salad, cold slaw, green beans. Hands down the best place for a relaxing lunch or dinner. Today was my 1st time at this restaurant, probably my last. The drive-through wait was very long considering there were only 2 cars ahead of me. If you need a good place to take a nap this might be the one. The employees at the window were extremely rude. The young kid (his name was on my receipt) at the window was not polite at all and said nothing other than taking my card and handing my food back out the window with a blank stare. My issue with the staff at the window were that said kid turned his back to the window and said something to other staff people who all made a point to look out the window at me and laugh. Not sure what was funny but apparently it was to them. Not a good impression nor would I recommend this place for for others. The food was mediocre for the price that I paid at best. read more

Let me start off by saying that I don't give reviews at all! But I had to make this review to save potential buyers their money. What I ordered was a 10 piece chicken wing meal with a side of mac and cheese, green beans, and fries that also came with 3 hush puppies. I'll start off with the chicken; the chicken was okay at best, I've had better chicken at other small southern businesses and at chain fast food restaurants like popeyes, bojangles, etc. The best thing about the chicken was that they are HUGE, so that's the only plus they have, but they were pretty dry and just very underwhelming, but they're not *bad*. Next is the mac and cheese which is extremely disappointing coming from a self-proclaimed southern eatery. The mac and cheese had no seasoning whatsoever and tasted like the "chefs" relied on the cheese alone to flavor it up which doesn't work at all. Also, I expected it to be baked (although I don't mind any sort of mac and cheese preparation as long as it is good!) and instead seemed like it was made on a stovetop which, again, is fine, but if you're going to call yourself a southern eatery, at least put some salt and pepper in it before you serve it. How does Kraft mac and cheese taste better than this? Next are the green beans. Now I love me some green beans whether it's canned or fresh and right off the bat, I could tell that these green beans were canned, which is fine by me! You can really spruce up some canned green beans if you really want to. However, these green beans literally had NO seasoning whatsoever, not even salt or pepper. NOTHING! All the chefs did was put this in a pot and boil them until they were hot which is completely unacceptable and such an insult! What do you take your customers for?? I was so upset because I love green beans so much and this just disappointed the heck out of me. You can also tell there was no seasoning by the color of the canned green bean's juice. It was a clear green, the same color as the green beans. The fries tasted regular, nothing spectacular, just regular degular fries. The hush puppies it came with tasted exactly like onion rings and if you had a blindfold on and someone told you to eat their hush puppies and eat some onion rings, you would not be able to tell the difference at all which is just sad. I don't even think they sell onion rings, so it can't be because it was fried in the same oil. I'm glad it came with the meal and I didn't have to buy it because I'd be so mad if I bit into that and tasted an onion ring. Also they were pretty hard, not soft at all like a regular hush puppy. In conclusion, the meal was horrible, and I only ate almost half of it because I haven't ate all day and my boyfriend bought me the food and I didn't want to waste his money. DO NOT spend your money here on this overpriced crap! You're better off going to a fast food chicken place than here. Side note: their ranch is really good! read more

Not good. We had 6 piece wings with fries and okra, plus 6 piece fried shrimp with corn and salad. Plus a fried green tomato appetizer. The tomatoes were good as were the okra, but the rest ranged from bad to horrible. The shrimp had a weird not fresh taste and the chicken wings were overcooked. The corn was even dirty water tasting. I am a admitted addict of Southern fried anything, and Sam's gives me my fix. I tried Sam's for the first time this fall, and it was love at first bite! My fried wings were perfection, the fried shrimp were fat, lovingly seasoned, and finger-lickingly crispy. AND--they deliver through GrubHub. Some people turn their noses up at the idea of GrubHub having sketchy deliverers, but I've never had a problem, so getting my food delivered from Sam's is the order of the day. The food here was delicious. I would have given them 5 stars except for a couple of things... The green beans are obviously canned, how hard is it to get and cook fresh or frozen green beans? That would make such a big difference. The other thing is the tartar sauce only comes spicy and that didn't work for this wimpy white girl who is allergic to red pepper. One other thing, the hush puppies were a little too oniony and spicy for my taste... there's nothing on this plate that is cooling my palette...!!! I got the fried shrimp and oysters plate and they were absolutely perfectly cooked with a salty golden brown cornmeal coating... just what I was craving! The side salad was decent, but I've got to rave about their honey mustard dressing ...it was awesome! They should package that up and sell it in the stores or at least at their restaurant. All in all I highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely come back. I'm surprised there were so few customers here on a Sunday early evening. Maybe it's because there's very little atmosphere here. Most of their customers got the food to go. It would be great if there was some music playing, like reggae or zydeco or country or something... they have two TVs in the place and only one was on and it was playing the football game, but the volume was down. We were pleasantly surprised to find this little gem while riding through Durham one night. The service here was really good, but most importantly, the food was both cheap and delicious! The highlights here are definitely their crispy fried fish and fried shrimp. The batter is light but super flavorful, and both the fish and shrimp came out super crispy but not greasy, and tasted very fresh. Excellent! They also do a good fried chicken wing. The fixin's were average. The potato salad was quite good, but the mac'n'cheese and fried okra were very forgettable. Honestly though, the fish and shrimp here are so good that I could overlook the fixin's (and I love me some good fixin's!). Would definitely visit again! read more

I finally gave Sam's a try and feel just ok. I tried their 3 fish/3 jumbo shrimp/3 oyster dinner with macaroni and cheese and green beans. The fish/shrimp were pretty good, I'd order them again. Not heavily seasoned, hold el used a little more actually, but it was ok. The green beans tasted like they were poured out of the can and simply reheated, Mac & cheese may have been boxed velveeta, unseasoned. Do the sides don't appear to be homemade and I would not recommend them but the fish was pretty good, decent, nothing to write home about. read more
