Artichoke appetizer
Mohamed N.

"Delicious Cajun-inspired food in American Tobacco in Durham" Came here on a Wednesday night with a friend-- the only time we could get a reservation was 5pm, and there were multiple others waiting outside as we were seated, too. This restaurant is immediately beside the parking deck and had a little outdoor area, but it was cold so we sat inside. It's a bit dark but inviting. We ordered the artichoke appetizer. My dining friend had the red drum in etouffee and I had the shrimp and grits (without bacon). I also ordered a pomegranate non-alcoholic drink. The food was DELICIOUS. The artichoke appetizer was amazing-- we both said we'd happily have that as a full meal. It was maybe lightly pickled and with lemon? But absolutely scrumptious. I had a bite of the fish in etouffee, and really really good. And my shrimp & grits we amazing (and the shrimp were pre-peeled, thankfully). The tomato sauce on the shrimp and grits was absolutely delicious, as were the mushrooms. And I loved my drink. Service was excellent-- they left us a bottle of water, but frequently checked on us to ensure we were good, to remove plates, etc. By the end when they were busy, it did seem there was a bit longer of a wait than one might expect for last bits, the bill, etc., but they were doing their best. Definitely not a cheap dinner-- my entree was roughly $25 before tax and tip, for instance. But for an upscale experience, I'd heartily recommend this. I lived in Louisiana for 7 years, and this was "the real deal", too. Try it!

Fried catfish with red beans and rice

Came here for restaurant week and was so happy we did! Started off with the drago oysters, which were super buttery and cheesy. My only complaints is the bread served with it is not good. Too light and crumbly for soaking up sauce and being able to easily pull it apart. Second course was fried catfish with beans and rice and it was so good. Sauce was thick and full of creole flavor and the catfish was crispy and cooked to perfection. Ended off with beignets, which are always incredible. So doughy and sweet, topped with powdered sugar. A delicious meal all around! Service was incredible. Very attentive and helpful with picking out menu items. We will definitely be back to try more!

This place was easy to find with plenty parking. The restaurant is cozy and dimly lit. Had plenty seating inside and out. Our server Imani was great and very attentive. Our table stayed clean, she continued to refill our water with the bottled water left table side. She described everything about the different meals and gave some good suggestions. The food was actually amazing! The oysters came out hot with the cheese melted on top and spinach underneath. Served with the bread/sponge used for the delicious juices! The crispy artichokes were tender and crispy at the same time. The spinach salad was tasty and a big serving. The gumbo was kind of thick and a bit spicy but good. Everything was seasoned just right. The prices are decent and the servings are pretty big. I cannot wait to go back!

I've heard so many positive things about Seraphine and was very excited to try it, but while the restaurant itself was beautiful and the staff members were warm and welcoming, the food fell flat. The croquettes had a strange gasoline-taste to them and the crudo was somehow bland and too fishy at the same time. The best dish I tried was the blackened red drum, but even that one was just okay and tbh for $38 I expected a lot more. The food also came out sporadically; the small plates arrived 10 minuets after ordering and then over an hour later, both the appetizer and the main came out together. I wanted to love this place!! And I'm sad that the meal was such a let down.

Spotted Seraphine on the Triangle Restaurant Week site and decided to try it. Located in the American Tobacco Campus, Seraphine is nestled in the old Tyler's spot, directly adjacent to the South garage. Inside, the entryway has a coat rack (super useful during this weather!) and some chairs before opening another door into the restaurant. The restaurant itself is dark and moody with a nice ambient level of noise and smells that make your mouth instantly water. As soon as we were seated, we were greeted by our absolutely phenomenal waitress who let us know about menu additions and warned us about dishes that were on the spicy side. Never one to shy away from some heat, I appreciated knowing which dishes would satisfy that craving. We started with oyster shooters, which were FANTASTIC. A good oyster shooter is the only situation where I'll drink Bloody Mary mix and man, is this house made mix delicious. I also tried a couple other cocktails, but was most impressed by the Sazerac. For food, we split a bowl of gumbo, which was really good and some oysters Dragos style which may have been the best variation of charbroiled oysters I've had outside of Acme in New Orleans. The dish is interestingly designed to collect all the melted butter and makes it perfect for dipping bread. We selected the cavatappi and shrimp and grits for our entrees--both wonderful. The lemon ricotta cheese paired really well with the spice in the cavatappi sauce. Shrimp and grits gave baked potato vibes in the best possible way with the cheese, bacon, and green onions. I also loved the added mushrooms. For dessert, we had the hot, fluffy, and absolutely covered in a mountain of powdered sugar beignets. Amazing! My only regrets were 1) not saving more space to eat more than one and 2) not thinking to order coffee with them. Our whole experience at Seraphine was wonderful and I've already picked out some dishes I want to try on my next visit!

My dish was immaculate. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the menu items and their origins and other details. I can't wait to visit again with a group of friends.

Tuna and Market Catch Crudo

Seraphine is an absolute gem for elevated Southern and Gulf Coast flavors here in Durham! There are plenty of great restaurants in this city, but Seraphine has quickly become one of my top choices for a night out filled with vibrant flavors, beautiful presentation, and a lively yet welcoming atmosphere. The decor is modern and stylish with a touch of New Orleans charm. The space feels open and airy but still intimate, with warm lighting and thoughtful details that make it perfect for both a casual dinner or a special night out. The service at Seraphine is another highlight. The staff is attentive and friendly. Everything comes out at a perfect pace, allowing you to relax and really enjoy each course. Now, onto the food! Seraphine delivers bold flavors and spot-on execution across the board. The standouts for me are: The Hurricane Seraphine is the perfect way to start the evening. A mix of dark rum, Cap & Cane white rum, passionfruit, orange, lime, and pineapple juices, it's tropical, refreshing, and just the right amount of boozy. The Crawfish and Shrimp Croquettes are golden and crisp on the outside with a tender, flavorful seafood filling inside. The red remoulade adds a tangy, slightly spicy kick that ties it all together. The Tuna and Market Catch Crudo is incredibly fresh and beautifully plated. On my visit, the market catch included lump crab, which paired perfectly with the cucumber, jalapeño, avocado mousse, and fresh herbs. Light, bright, and full of flavor. The Fried NC Catfish is comfort food perfection. The fish is flaky and moist with a light, crispy coating, and the red beans and rice with smoked ham give the dish that deep, satisfying Southern flavor. The Pan Seared Scallops are seared to perfection, paired with a flavorful succotash and a touch of saffron that adds a beautiful aromatic note. The Benton's bacon and crispy leeks bring a salty, crunchy contrast that makes every bite a treat. Seraphine is the kind of place that makes you want to linger over your meal, enjoy every bite, and then start planning your next visit before you've even left. Between the inviting atmosphere, top-notch service, and unforgettable dishes, it's a Durham dining experience you do not want to miss.

So, my daughter had been raving about Seraphine for the last year, she has been at least 3 times. Seraphine is located in the Tobacco Road area right off the parking deck. There's plenty of patio seating and the inside has a good amount of seating, along with a 20 top bar. We went on a pretty steady Saturday evening around 6, there were seats open at the bar right away, so we grabbed them. Bridgete was our bartender and she was great!! We started with drinks, both so good. We then had the oysters Rockefeller as our shared starter. I've never seen oysters Rockefeller served like this, it was pretty cool. It came with a side of bread because it seems more like a dip. Very tasty. The oysters were a great size, there was so much cheese, and the bacon was so thick and delicious. We both had the fried catfish for our entree, but I had a side spinach salad, instead of the rice and beans it's normally served with. The catfish was seasoned and fried perfectly!!! The spinach salad was good, but would have been even better with some type of nuts, like almonds or walnuts. My daughter loves their rice and beans. I enjoyed my experience at Seraphine.

I've never been to a fine dining establishment, but if I did I would expect the service to be comparable to Seraphine's. Excellent customer service - from the straw provided on a plate, to the food knowledge, and to the attention to detail it was a 10/10 service experience. Additionally, the food was delightful (we use words like delightful for Michelin recommended restaurants - lol). I ordered the catfish and red beans. My friend, Oyster Rockefeller and potatoes of some kind ( not on standard menu). We also ordered the beignets. Overall, the food was fantastic! We love a cornmeal dredge on fish, and that's exactly what we received. The beans were flavorful and cooked to the point of being tender but not overcooked. I'm a novice to Oysters Rockefeller, but what I had was gooey greatness. The biggest letdown were the beignets. While I can't speak to Authentic New Orleans Beignets, there is a French restaurant in Durham that serves fantastic Beignets. Those Beignets are light, airy, and amazing! Finally, whether you are sitting inside or outside it's a vibe. However, be prepared for close quarters and volume can be a bit loud for some. This isn't your G-Momma's home cooking, but it is delicious food with fantastic service. Cajun/Creole: 4.6

Delicious cocktails and dinner! Excellent service and just a lovely atmosphere. Great place for a celebration with family.

We ate here for the first time and as a New Orleans native my expectations weren't high, however this place was incredible! I've had Dragos charbroiled oysters several times and Seraphine's version is far more superior. The oyster shooters were a fun little pre dinner toast, the gumbo was okay, it's not what I would consider a true gumbo but it was still tasty. The red beans and rice and catfish were delicious and the fried shrimp was seasoned great. 100 out of 10 service provided by Matthew's, they were both knowledgeable about the menu, quick service and kind! The beignets were a little too dense and doughy for my taste, traditional beignets are a little more light and airy pastries but we will absolutely be back!

I've been searching high and low for broiled oysters, and I finally found the spot! This is the first restaurant in North Carolina where I've found oysters so good, I'd come back again and again--and I already have. I've been here two weeks in a row and stuffed myself both times! The first time I had oysters like these was in New Orleans, so my expectations were very high... but this place did not disappoint. I've tried a few different dishes here, and while everything's been good, I just can't stop ordering those oysters. The service is always great, and the atmosphere is super cute and welcoming. It's a little tucked away, so I had trouble finding it the first time--but now that I know where it is, I'm a regular in the making. If you're looking for New Orleans-inspired food, this place is a must. I'm always recommending it to people--and now I'm telling you: GO, GO, GO!

I absolutely LOVED this place. We came here for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. We used OpenTable to secure a reservation, which I highly recommend as they're normally booked. We parked behind the restaurant (which was free). It was early on a Saturday and no game that day so we lucked out. The ambiance and decor was so amazing...very art nouveau...and very much my vibe. We chose this place for the Cajun/Creole influence but were happy that it was so much more than that. We started out with six raw Chesapeake oysters which the waitress kept referring to as smedium. (It took us longer than I would like to admit that she meant they were small to medium in size! LOL) They were delightful. Small but salty. Definitely some of the best I had in awhile. My husband got an IPA and I got an Herb Your Enthusiasm ($17)...This drink was so good. I've had some "fancy" drinks in Downtown Durham that were not worth the price they charge...this one is probably the most worth it. (PS. I ended up having two!) The fried okra was the biggest and best surprise of the evening. Cut lengthwise and lightly fried with a remoulade...Favorite dish of the evening. We shared the boudin which I was not very impressed with. I have good friends from Louisiana and hers is better. Then we had the crudo which was good but a little bland. We also ordered the duck fat fingerlings because our eyes were bigger than our stomach and they were delicious but we couldn't finish them because we were STUFFED. And since it was our anniversary my husband ordered the beignets and they brought them to us with a candle...so sweet! One more thing I have to mention...the service...TOP NOTCH. Stellar! They wished us a happy anniversary, there were no mistakes or issues, it seems like they entire wait staff knew our orders and chipped in to take care of us. Best service I've had in a LONG long time. I will definitely be back because there are so many other dishes I want to try~

We first came for brunch... I had the 'Brisket and Grits'. It was a very tender brisket with cheesy, garlicky grits, scallions with fried egg. The best part? They drizzle some of the brisket gravy over the grits... Oh man this was delish. We got talking about South Louisiana food with our server and he told us they bring in Leidenheimers french bread from New Orleans for their po-boy's. What's the big deal? ...I'll tell you! The bakery was founded in 1896 and it is the ONLY bread that marks a true po-boy to New Orleans natives. Why? Because of it's unique texture. Their loaves have a pillowy soft interior and a crunchy crust that isn't found in most french breads. It's the gold standard for po-boys. So today, I came back to Succotash for an Oyster po-boy. And the Verdict? Five stars mon ami! Leidenheimers bread with a very generous amount of perfectly fried oysters. ...I like mine simple with just lettuce, tomato and a little hot sauce. This was I can honestly say, the very best oyster po-boy I have found outside of NOLA. ... so yeah, I've found a new home... thanks and a tip o' the hat to Chef Juan DiGiulio and the great staff he has brought together!

I had made a reservation but it was probably unnecessary as it was pretty empty when we arrived (it was about 5pm on a Saturday.) The waitress brought a bottle of water to the table and took our drink order. And I know that this place is literally call it's a Southern thing but can I mention how much I dislike drinking out of mason jars? I ordered the chicken n biscuits, my husband got the country hamburger steak plate, my BiL got wings, and my SiL got the crabcakes. We also orders charred jalapeno & sweet corn hushpuppies and frickles as an appetizer. I was VERY excited about my food. Y'all...the only thing that impressed me were the Frickles. Everything else was distinctly underwhelming. I also ordered Blackberry Betta Have My Money which was not that great. My SiL ordered a espresso martini that they said didn't come from a mix but she said it tasted like it was. The bathrooms were very clean. The decor and the vibe were great. Cute even. I really enjoyed that part of it. After dropping off our food, we never saw our waitress again unless we flagged her down for drink refills. It was especially frustrating since there was automatic gratuity added. And since the place wasn't that busy, it felt like she didn't feel the need to earn her automatic tip. Overall I was disappointed in my birthday dinner. I won't be coming back here.
