Got a Vietnamese coffee and tea. Didn't get food this time but typically get the grilled pork and the special combination.

We were in the area after doing some shopping and I remembered reading about a banh mi shop nearby. We stopped in late on a weekday and placed our orders at the counter: spring rolls, a combination (dac biet) banh mi and a tofu banh mi. We would have loved some Vietnamese coffee but that would have kept us up. A cute little gentleman brought us the spring rolls and they definitely seemed handmade due to their long shape (I suspect some places reheat frozen spring rolls). He then brought our banh mi and we enjoyed them better than those from another nearby tea lounge. They were good, filling and relatively cheap. The atmosphere is very casual and there looked to be some college students hanging out and other patrons picking up orders. I read this is a family-owned restaurant and I can see the care they put into it. Will definitely be back, perhaps to try other menu items like their beef stew.

Banh mi dac biet with "cold cuts" was so good (they're not cold meats btw). They use pate which is sometimes missing from other Banh mi. To go veggies came in adorable little zip locs. The crispy pork Banh mi was also good just cause it's crispy pork but I prefer cold cuts. We got the grilled pork sub as well which was flavorful. The bread was perfect. Crispy outside and fluffy inside. Wasn't so hard that it crumbles all over you each bite. We also got the popcorn chicken which could've probably used more salt/msg? But still yummy! And they were so kind and patient even though we placed a somewhat large order about 15 minutes before they closed. Such a cutely decorated inside too!

Ok! I fell in love with Bahn Mi in Houston and was sad to leave all that good food and come to Durham.... However, plot twist! Durham has a variety of people, culture and food... and Bahn Mi!!!!!! This was amazing ! The bread was fresh, crispy outside and soft inside. The employees were over the moon nice. The order was delivered fast and fresh. The veggies and tofu was yummy. I would ask for extra "meat" next time. A little light handed on the ingredients but the flavor is there!

Excellent! There isn't a restaurant like this nearby. They mainly serve Banh Mi, coffee, and teas. The bread is homemade and crunchy. The fillings are refreshing and crispy. I recommend a special combo which has pate, pork belly, and pork roast in it. Ambience is casual. I am happy this place decided to open here, and I hope they get a lot of business! The service is timely and friendly

Inside is small but clean & cozy!

This area is getting a lot of bánh mì spots - tried this new place for lunch. I ordered two bánh mìs (crispy pork and egg) along with the popcorn chicken. The chicken portion was smaller than expected and a bit dry, though the flavor was okay. The bánh mìs were more "sparse/empty" than I anticipated. And, the veggies were not pickled (my daikon or pickled carrots...). The bread tasted okay but like standard store-bought white bread (my baguette...). That said, the prices were very affordable, and the quality felt consistent with what you'd expect for the cost and portion size!! I chose my order to go, but the little restaurant is well decorated, cozy, and inviting, and service was relatively fast. Overall, it's a solid option if you're on a budget. Personally if you specifically want bánh mì I think Gossip Tea across the road has better quality bánh mì, though it's also more expensive.

We were in the area and stumbled across this spot on google. I am so glad we stopped by! We came for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and ordered at the counter. we ordered one grilled pork banh mi and one cold cut ($8.99). We decided to eat in and our food came out within 10 mins. We love banh mi and i can definitely say this was one of my favorite banh mis i've had! The bread was warm and perfectly crispy. The cold cut was my favorite. I will definitely be back!

This is the banh mi spot. Finally a banh mi that is truly a banh mi. Banh mi is all about the bread. The bread should be light airy and flaky. This is the holy grail. This is the banh mi that everyone needs. It's a must if you know what a true banh mi is.

We arrived around noon on a busy beautiful Sunday! There's plenty of seating both inside and on their outdoor wrap around patio. Foster's has an old rustic charm, kind of like a general store but on a larger scale. So, you order at the counter with one of their many staffers, they call your name when it's ready if you ordered to go, or they walk around to the tables calling out your name if you choose to dine there! I had the Farm Plate, which was 2 eggs your way, a meat, their famous herb biscuit and your choice of grits or potatoes. I chose scrambled hard with cheese eggs, chicken sausage patties and cheese grits. It was just ok. The food was good, not like OMG! My friend had the Breakfast Burrito and it was again, just ok. They have a variety of options to choose from. Maybe we just picked the most basic ones. Nothing is out of the ordinary. Everything looks delicious and we really should have tried a dessert, but didn't. I would go back to give them another chance, but I'm not rushing. They have local goods, like honey, jams, chocolates, sauces for sale as well as wine and lots of other goods. It's super family friendly and a great place to sit and enjoy someone's company or your own, o just didn't have a spectacular experience.

"Sandwich shop just off University Dr in Durham"…read more Came here for an evening dinner with a friend. We arrived around 5:45pm, and there was ample parking, but I will say the place was HOPPING by the time we left at 6:30pm. The decor is very cute-- old-style, good seating and a bar area as well. You order at the table, and food comes to you. My dining mate got the Cypriot (Halloumi, Fig, Arugula, Tomato, Pesto) with a side of curly fries, and I wasn't very hungry so I got the Beyond Meat Chicken Tenders kids meal with a side salad. I also got a delicious bottled sparkling lemonade. Service was fine-- food comes after order, but you're mostly on your own once food is delivered, as expected. We got a couple of napkins with the food, but there are more self-serve up in the counter. Just don't expect someone to check on you or anything. The food was GREAT. My dining partner loved her sandwich (commented especially on the fig spread) and fries, and I really liked my meal as well. The side salad was surprisingly delicious, especially the addition of pickled red onion. The place was clean-- I went to the restroom, too, and everything was stocked well. Price was very fair. Overall, I'd happily come back. Easy, priced well, delicious. Not a place where you get a lot of "attention", but great for a simple meal.

I've been going to this particular location at New Hope Commons for more than a decade now, not as frequently as before, but not rarely, and I notice there seems to be a slight downgrade when it comes to their food quality in recent years. I remember when in my first visits in Jason's Deli, every time I ordered a Reuben, the cashier would ask if I'd want regular or baked chips and my choice of side (usually I get French Onion soup, a fruit cup, or a side salad), but in my latest visit, I was not asked any of those. And what happened to the pickle dill that they usually include with the sandwich? Jason's Deli doesn't put that anymore. Yeah, sure you can get it from the Salad Bar, but it's usually included on your sandwich plate. I also prefer baked chips over regular, so when I got the regular chips I was slightly disappointed. I usually order the full Original Reuben (Corned Beef, not Pastrami) sandwich but they also have Manager's Special which comes with half of any sandwich of your choice + a cup of soup, which is not a bad combo for a slightly cheaper price. While the amount of beef in my latest visit was good, the Reuben in my sandwich tasted a bit cold as if it wasn't heated enough. The amount of kraut was good, and the Thousand Island dressing in the sandwich was fine. However, one corner of the rye bread was soggy, leaving me disappointed as I pondered how better Jason's Deli used to be. Jason's Deli's salad bar is decent with a good variety of toppings, cheeses, and dressings you can add. You'll have to pay additional if you want to add protein though. I tried having chicken breasts in the salad, and it tasted okay. You can get the Side Salad added to your sandwich order for about $6 or if you want a bigger plate, you can get the Garden Fresh Salad Bar for about $11.45. Both options are fairly price. They also have other specialty salads I haven't tried, so if you enjoy eating salads, you might enjoy Jason's Deli. Fettuccini Alfredo is not bad but not great. Don't expect it to be like Carabba's; it's a cheaper pasta but fairly priced; it comes with chicken and two pieces of bread, sauce is creamy enough. Chicken quality is better than its Italian neighbor, NY Pizza at New Hope Commons. My girl also enjoyed the penne with meatballs and marinara sauce. I also tried their wraps a few times such as the Ranchero Wrap, which is a Mexican-style wrap Southwest spices. Wraps and most of the foods in their menu are healthier than an average fast food chain. They also have a good variety of typical soups like Broccoli & Cheese, French Onion, Chili, and some Noodle Soups, so overall, menu items are what you'd expect from a deli chain. This Jason Deli location is at the center of New Hope Commons, close to the bus stop where many homeless people wait, and at one time, I saw a couple of them freely enter the restaurant without paying for food, and just eating the complimentary ice cream Jason Deli has for its customers. This is probably why they put coded locks for the bathroom doors: To prevent non-customers from accessing them. Overall, place looks spacious enough, even if it could get packed during Sunday lunchtime. Jason's Deli's soda machine and sweet tea options are convenient. Sweet teas are freshly-brewed, and fantastic with lemon. The complimentary soft-served ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, or a mix of both) with the small cones or cup is nice but at one of our more recent visits, the ice cream machine was down. Food was served fast, and someone brings it to your table, and someone also cleans them up, so overall, customer service is fine. The main reason we go to a Jason's Deli is for the Great Reuben, which is sadly, no longer great; hopefully, management will be able to improve overall quality of it. Back in the day, I used to have lunch breaks here every time I hang out in the Barnes & Noble nearby. It's still the best place to get food in this New Hope Commons shopping area but that's not saying much since there's not a lot of other options here: There's a NY Pizza place, a Subway inside Walmart, a Philly Steak spot that seemed to have shut down, so I'm thankful that there's still a Jason's Deli here.

We both ordered a bubble tea. I ordered a Banh mi, while she ordered what looked like dumplings and a green looking dessert. I had really high hopes for the Banh mi, but what didn't sit right with me was that there was red onion in the Banh mi. I wish I knew this beforehand, otherwise I would have opted out. I do always wonder what the Banh mi would have tasted like without.. since the onion did greatly overpower the Banh mi. Despite that, the Tea Lounge was a nice place to hang out and even play some games. There is a wall of activities to partake in, which makes it inviting for people to want to chill and stay a while. While we were there, there were several people treating it like a coffee shop, with their laptops in full work-from-cafe mode. I like that a lot, because that means the wait staff aren't trying to push you out, instead, it's a place to truly enjoy the company of others, or yourself.
