Shrimp and grits
Eric L.

Continued excellence! Our fabulous server was very helpful and friendly. We started off with some great, perfectly shucked oysters. We don't like them briny, and the ones the shucker selected delivered on that! I chose the Lox Latke, two foods from my childhood. WOW! A crispy latke with some deliciously flavorful smoked salmon on top--very creative and definitely a super dish. My wife got the Shrimp and Grits, always consistently good. Glad we made it over here after touring Artsplosure.

In town for "bidness" and popped in to St. Roch for happy hour 1/2 priced oysters. I enjoyed three varieties from Washington State, paired with Roch's homemade crackers. For the main course I chose the menu for "Raleigh Restaurant Week." I started with three NC oysters. They were very good. The next course was the "No bullshit" salad. The salad was so fresh (greens come in weekly from a farm in SC) with the champagne vinaigrette and goat cheese (I honestly could have added a protein and stopped there). The final course was rice and beans with shrimp and andouille sausage. Wow! Amazing dish, seasoned to Perfection and so filling. Run, don't walk to St. Roch--Wednesday night 1/2 prices oysters!!

Let me get straight to the point, St. Roch is terrific! The restaurant interior has a relaxing, classy vibe to it. It had that perfect noise level where it doesn't feel hushed, but it's not so noisy that you can't hear your date across the table. Also our server was both attentive and extremely helpful. She had an air of confidence and knowledge about the menu and could offer up an explanation for whatever questions we had, but also was not overbearing about imparting her knowledge like some waiters can be. "Enough, enough! What about the food?!" The food was TOP notch. We started with an arancini which came as one large shareable portion instead of several pieces to divvy up. It's perfect for a date night. And it was possibly the best arancini I've ever had. It might have been the highlight of the meal for me. We both then followed that up with seafood platters which were also top notch. Easily some of the best seafood I've had in this city. I'm tempted to get the same exact order next time I go, but I really can't wait to try the red beans and rice dish which has andouille sausage in it. This is now one of my favorite Raleigh spots and I can't wait to go back.

My friend and I had the most amazing time at St Roch. We had creamy espresso martinis and shared the roasted garlic oysters and the greens salad with fried oysters on it. They aren't shown in the pic because they forgot them. I snapped the pic before they came out. Everything was amazing! I can't remember our servers name because of said martinis...he was great though!

I made a reservation for Sunday night for two people with Resy. They do require a credit card and will charge a no show fee of $25 per person. We were seated promptly once arriving. The food and drinks were so good. I got the Harvest mule to drink. I really liked the pumpkin spice and ginger flavors in the drink. We started with the boudin arancini and wow! I didn't expect it to be one giant arancini, but it was delicious. It had a nice kick and was like nothing I've had before. For my main entree, I got the calabash platter with fried shrimp. I don't like fried pickles and they let me get an extra hush puppy instead. The fried shrimp and fries were both great. I liked the aioli with the fries. The one miss for me was the hush puppies. They were kind of dry and didn't have a lot of flavor. Service was fantastic. Our main waitress came around often enough, and other staff came around to clear things/check on things too. All around this is a great place and I will definitely be back to try more!

Oysters are absolutely amazing here! Especially the cooked ones! Although we had a lot of the raw as well. The vibe overall was awesome and trendy. The service is the reason this is a 4 star instead of a 5. Right off the bat, the waiter basically said we take your whole order at once and we will bring it out accordingly. It was very much a "we are too busy for you" message, this was a business dinner: so thankfully the food far exceeded the service, however, I'm Not sure we will be doing another work event here. But I cannot say enough about the oysters. I recommend start here with a drink and oysters... and find dinner elsewhere.

St. Roch is still so good. The food never misses, the bowls are always soo yummy and filling. Staff are always super friendly and patient as well. Even though it was cooler I sat in the window which I love because it feels like a little nook. I'll always return and recommend even if parking for anything in that area is crazy lol..

I came here specifically to try their NC blue crab claws! This is on the appetizer menu. Their menu is well documented and clearly showed what was gluten free and what wasn't which is always a plus! The staff was very friendly and as I was in town for business and dining alone I sat at the bar for convenience. I ordered the appetizer and a drink. The vibe was very fun! The bar was beautiful and was very fun to people watch. Now onto the food, take this review as a single item review rather than a full establishment review. Honestly, I was disappointed in the flavor composition of the crab claws. The menu description says that the dish has "black garlic vinaigrette, scallion, and crispy chili oil". The dish was overcome by the vinaigrette, the claws were swimming in it so much that the flavor of the crab meat was totally lost. That was not ideal for me and frankly wish that they would have let the crab really shine through.

Service was great. I sat at the bar and I had four different people come by to check on me. Came specifically for the oyster happy hour which is a good thing cause they were serving a prix fixe menu that night aside from the bar menu. It was odd for a Wednesday night so I wonder what was up with that. No worries cause like I said I was only getting oysters. Got a quick seat at the bar. Oysters were a great deal - 1/2 dozen for $9. Odd that they charge extra for all the fixings like the cocktail sauce, horseradish and mignonette sauce but it was just $0.50 each. Odd but not a deal breaker. Again maybe I had high expectations but the oysters were just mediocre. The saltine crackers that came with it was surprisingly good though. They also didn't have their full drink menu but the bartender was able to make me the "Hurricane." It was good but definitely not need up being stronger that I expected. I mean I have high tolerance and this felt like I had just drank at least 3-4 drinks. Good on a normal relaxing day but I had an early flight to catch so I was chugging water like krazi at the hotel and hoping I don't sleep through my alarm. All in all, I'd probably come again for the happy hour deal. Only con was I asked for separate checks for my drink since I couldn't put that on our company card and they forgot so I had to ask again.

I love St Roch. One of my go to spots for oysters. This time around we tried something new in addition to the oysters. We got the blue crab claws that come in a black garlic vinaigrette and chili oil. It was a flavor explosion. The crab and the garlic vinaigrette in chilli oil complement each other. Next we got the seared scallops that come with a potato pavé. Scallops were seared to a tender perfection. It was my first time trying a potato pavé and i like it. The potato with the tomato buerre blanc sauce was so delicious! Tip: Wednesdays are 50% off oysters so definitely worth going!

What a delight! I came here after a few late nights at Hopscotch and was craving some high-quality protein. St. Roch hit the spot. The restaurant boasts a clean, high-end ambiance with large windows, ample seating, and a lengthy oyster bar where you can observe the shucking process. It's energetic without being chaotic, though not really ideal for kids. Parking is limited to street parking only, so plan ahead. The oysters were excellent--though, as always, a bit pricey. On my visit, they offered three North Carolina varieties and three from the Pacific Northwest. I tried both and everything was fresh, well-shucked, and served with classic accoutrements. Pro tip: on Tuesdays, you can get six NC oysters for $9, and on Wednesdays, six PNW oysters for $15--killer deals if you're an oyster fan. For the main, I had the BBQ shrimp and grits. The grits were creamy with just the right kick of spice. The shrimp were slightly firmer than my preference, but overall, the dish was flavorful and satisfying. The real standout was the service. My server was attentive and warm, despite my being seated in a tricky spot, and the oyster shucker took the time to share his knowledge and even chat about his time on the Outer Banks--a great personal touch. Overall, I left happy, full, and energized for the day. Expect to spend around $40-50 per person, which feels fair for the quality, vibe, and service. If you're looking for a well-appointed spot for seafood in downtown Raleigh, this place is an easy recommendation. We will be back!

The Michelin guide did not miss! This was such a great experience. We went for 50% off oyster night- one thing to do differently is to go earlier as they do run out of things later in the evening. However the food and drinks were awesome, the servers were super friendly, and would love to go back!

BBQ Shrimp

My husband and I came here on a date night. This is a great date spot but we did see several people with young kids there as well. We ordered a dozen oysters to share (main reason we went lol) and they were really good. I got the bbq shrimp and I loved it! It tasted more like a Thai curry. My only complaint was I wish it came with rice so I could have more of that gravy/sauce. My husband had the calabash which was also good. Service is really good and our waiter was great.

Dying to go for the oysters but I have friends that are vegan I want to bring with. Any choices for them?

Pickings are slim for vegans there! I suggest calling them. I am a pescatarian so I am aware of vegetable options too but that's a little hard there too.

Does St. Roch have outside dining?

Yes! We have a series of tables by our front door

Her recommendations for pairing the drinks with the food were flawless, and each drink was prepared like a work of art. I started with the raw oysters, paired with a glass of Rose, which I loved. They switched from the Halibut with Fennel to Mahi with Forbidden Rice. The rice is black and inky and potent and extraordinary, but it overwhelmed the fish completely. Still greatful I got to experience it, but I would pair it with something more gamy like lamb or goat. The Pecan pie with warm salted caramel ice cream was nothing short of a spiritual experience, and Hayley's recommendation to pair it with Rum Flip was perfect. Yes, I Ubered. Overall, this one is going to be a frequent hangout.

We sat outside this day, as the weather was mild and there wasn't any available seats inside. We ordered a fried combo and a grilled combo. TrySeafood does a lot of things right. Portion size was fairly generous. We especially love the fact they serve cleaned jumbo shrimp. Food was cooked well, shrimp was tender as was scallops. The broccoli was not tender crisp nor mushy. The potatoes and corn were delicious. While service was friendly, it was a bit slow. Also, I'm not an Old Bay fan. The grilled shrimp were seasoned with Old Bay. While the fish was crispy, I prefer a cornmeal dredge to a flour dredge. Finally, (and this could have been a me thing) the tip percentage on the screen doesn't align with the math. I intended to tip 15% - which is standard especially considering slow service. That should have been approx $8 and when I got home I realized it was approximately $16. You're not given a printed receipt and if you're in a rush and going through the process quickly it's easy to miss. Again I may have missed something, but I'm pretty sure I selected the %15 option. Additionally, I've seen other restaurants that have intentionally include this practice. Would I go again, sure. I'd request a different seasoning blend or a light seasoning and check that math!
