Collards said they were made with pork but got plain, unseasoned greens in huge lumps. Scallops also in pieces, not a single whole one. Also got a crab cake and it was overcooked and overseasoned. Although in a modern strip mall, SHACK is a great descriptor of this restaurant. The food is always good. We order the lunch portion usually, with a side if fried okra. You order from a real person at the counter, and pay up front. they call your name with the order is ready, and served in a plastic basket. paper cups for drinks. I'm shocked this is my first review for Skrimp shack. We order from here often. Good , not great fried catfish, fries and super delicious hush puppies!!! The fries are ok. Usually under cooked but ,ok lol. The 4 star is totally for the Cole slaw. Its always fresh crispy not to much vinegar. I usually wait for hubby to serve himself then I empty the rest on my plate. The fish really could use more seasoned meal. This is thr family meal deal. Comes with tarter and cocktail sauce. I appreciate how they add thr packages of sauce to the fish container, so it's not super cold when u use it. The Skrimp shack offers Catfish and whiting fish. An appropriate name. Bare essentials for inside diners. You order at the counter, find a seat, they bring it to you. Food is very good, hot, cooked correctly, wife has oysters and fried okra, I had shrimp and okra. Both ordered lunch portion for dinner as we are senior citizens. Drinks are self serve. First, this is a review for the Chesapeake location only. Second, we have eaten here 3 times in the last 2 years. Each time I have felt the food was good and made in a good time frame. We have always gotten the correct order and although we have always gotten "to go" orders the shop seems nice and clean. This last time we ordered, we got 2 1/2 gallons of tea. One sweet one unsweetened. I am the only person in my home who drinks the unsweetened. Each time I wanted some I would pour it into a cup. The very last cup full poured out with a glop. I looked in my cup, it looked like a loogie. I stuck my finger in a literally picked up this gooey squishy mass. I was grossed out. I called the store and asked to speak to the manager. I did not ask for (or want) a refund, I wasn't rude or hostile. I merely said this is what happened and perhaps you should be aware of either your employees or your machine. The manager immediately shut me down stating no one there would ever!!! Okay whatever you're defending your workers... next she suggested it was something in my cup before I poured the tea....again seriously??? First things first...I am known as the pickiest eater and the one that can make it better girl. This food is absolutely amazing. I just took a few bites and had to stop to write up a quick review. I ordered the Rock Basket with Mac and Cheese, small hushpuppies and their crab bisque soup. I can truly say, I don't think I could have done it better. The inside is so clean and modern. If the po boy looks a bit soupy in the picture, it was. I thought it was a bit strange that if you want any sort of toppings on your sandwich, they charge extra. Lettuce and tomato should come standard on a seafood sandwich, but that is just my opinion. My wife and I both got the mild/ spicy sauce on our po boys; however, it tasted sweet. Shrimp are best served savory, not drowned in a sweet tasting sauce. The sweet potato fries were also very unflattering. They were a bit soggy and had the occasional green bean mixed in there (neither of us ordered green beans) so that was a little off putting. There was no seasoning on the fries, or on my wife's collard greens. After she nibbled at them, I drowned them in Texas Pete and that supplied them with some flavor. For the sweet potato fries, I ate them with a fork and dunked them in ketchup. My wife's macaroni and cheese was the highlight of our experience, as it was really good! Our food was okay, but for the $36 I spent on it, I would've been happier paying less and going to Chic-fil-a or Wendy's. If we come back here (and that's a strong 'maybe' for me) down the road, I would order something fried. Skip the sandwiches and get a basket unless soupy shrimp po boys or bone dry bread with a hunk of fried fish on it is your thing. If you guys read these reviews (and I hope you do) fry your fries, or at least bake them until they are somewhat crispy. Not many people prefer mushy french fries. Next, don't call it mild or spicy sauce because it is neither. It's sweet, and tbh I would've rather had some shrimp stuck in a piece of dry bread. Seafood should be savory. I'm giving this place two stars because my order was ready in a timely manner, and it was edible-- just not worth the money in my opinion. Lettuce and tomato is fairly cheap at the grocery store and customers shouldn't have to pay $2 extra to have it added onto their $11 sandwich. That's just... Dumb. If I were to try this place out again, I'd get a fried basket with the macaroni and cheese. Skip the fries and the super bland collards. Don't order your food with that horrible overly sweet sauce that is supposed to be somewhat spicy. Sweet on seafood? That was a first for me, and it didn't work. Perhaps the fish is better than the po boys. I'll give it like a year or two before I come back. read more

This place is a family favorite. Tonight we ordered food to go. My nephew ordered the chicken basket dinner & did not like it. The dinner only came with 2 chicken strips with was surprising but the receipt says it's based on the weight of the chicken which was 10.5oz. As a grown adult it was not filling, but the fries were decent. Also, we had the fried shrimp basket & the whiting basket with regular and sweet potato fries. This review of strictly for take out only. I called in for a large take out order on a Friday afternoon. Ashley was very helpful and patient while taking my order on the phone. Since it was a large order (8 people) I asked if they could put each order in separate bags with their names on it and she said ok. Everything only took about 20 minutes however, there was a misunderstanding of how it was to be paid. I told her everything was separate but It was totaled together. No worries. It was all fixed and re calculated. I ordered the shrimp and crabmeat po boy with Mac and cheese and a drink. My sub was huge. The mild dressing was very tasty. The shrimp was a very good size and they were very generous with the portion. The Mac and cheese was ok. Everyone else's order was pretty much the same. Me and the wife stopped in for lunch we're looking for some seafood. We did check out their menu before we got there and we also discovered they do grilled also. I ordered one of their dinner entrées whitefish would trump of items were grilled and they hit the mark. My wife ordered the basket with white fish and shrimp also grilled it was not disappointment either. We did try their corn chowder soup it was full of lots of great taste. Sometimes you just get a craving for seafood. When that craving hit I took a look to see what was in the area and found Skrimp Shack. I'll be honest I was a little turned off by the name of the restaurant. But the reviews were good so I decided to give it a try. First things first the service was top notch. We were greeted immediately and told someone would be right with us. We ate our food in the restaurant so someone brought it out and she was super friendly and all smiles. It made me excited about my food. I ordered the basket with whiting and shrimp. For the sides I got hushpuppies and cole slaw. The fish and shrimp were delicious and fried nicely. It only came with 4 shrimp and I could have used 4 more lol. I'm picky about hushpuppies and to me these were just ok. I like mine on the sweet side and these had more of a corn meal texture. The slaw wasn't a hit for me either. It had a little too much pepper and it wasn't really season to my liking. Next time, and there will be a next time, I'll try some different sides. My boyfriend had the catfish and shrimp Po Boy and he couldn't stop raving about it and honestly it looked really good. He devoured it along with the French fries he ordered. The inside of the restaurant is really cute. It's got a red, grey, white, and black decor. Everything was really clean and again the service was great as I saw employees talk and greet other customers while we were sitting. It came with plenty of fries also and both orders came with a drink. Not too bad. I also really enjoyed the flavor of the tarter and cocktail sauce. The restaurant was nice and clean and there was plenty of seating. The only drawback that I saw was that they didn't have any wet naps. I know this is being very picky but it would be a nice touch to include a single wet nap onto every basket in the least. This is, by the way, a seafood establishment where it can get very messy at times. I will definitely be back to try other dishes. read more

The location was clean and the staff were efficient and friendly. I ordered take out and was pleasantly impressed when I got home. Me and my hubby had more than enough to share for dinner.
