To start, I was able to call and immediately make a reservation for the time I needed on a Friday evening. As soon as I hung up I received a notification text. The night before I received a confirmation text. I appreciate the old school communication. The parking lot is small. I am disabled and had to park in the lot across the street because there was absolutely no parking available. (The missing 5th star) When we arrived we were immediately seated. The restaurant is quaint. The staff is friendly and welcoming. From the guest in our party: The Fried Flounder was DELICIOUS!! On and off the sandwich. Perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection. The Yardbird sandwich was pretty good as well. The jambalaya on the other hand not so much (the chicken was hard). The fries were delicious as well. After we ate we discovered the outside atmosphere which is right on the water. They had a live band which was amazing. They had jenga, cornhole, gliding dinner tables, a fire pit, an entire other bar. It was a great surprise. We came here after a bike ride and needed some caloric replenishment.. and beer because we earned that. I looked at their menu ahead of time and I like that they serve breakfast items well into the day, because sometimes it's 3pm and I'm in the mood for an avocado toast. There were so many delicious looking items on the menu so it was somewhat difficult to choose; they have appetizers, handhelds, seafood, French district, salads, soups, and the tacos. In a seafood mood, we shared the mahi and tuna tacos. They were so perfect, and this is coming from a traditional street taco on a corn tortilla gal. The mahi tacos were not greasy and overly fried, but had crunch and held together. The tuna tacos were seared well and had a pineapple accompaniment. The lime crema on both brought the dishes together. I like that they were served with chips and salsa over fries too, although if another side is more your speed, they do ask you to verify. Tucked at the very end of a shopping center, you might not even notice it's there--but once you do, you'll be glad you stopped in. The interior dining room is pretty basic and nothing particularly memorable at first glance. But don't let that fool you--the magic happens when you step out the side door. The outdoor deck area is the star of the show, lined with palm trees and overlooking the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal. There are covered rocking picnic tables right by the water, a spacious covered bar, and even a second seating area that opens fully to the outdoors, giving it a great breezy, indoor-outdoor vibe. This casual spot is great for a laid-back lunch or a relaxed evening with drinks. The service was friendly and on point--our waitress made a great recommendation that I'll be raving about for a while: the crab-stuffed avocado salad. The avocado halves (yes, four of them!) are packed with crab meat, lightly battered, and fried to golden perfection. Honestly, forget the salad--those avocados deserve their own spotlight and would make a fantastic shareable appetizer. I've visited this place a few times over the past couple of years, and unfortunately every visit has had some kind of issue. I kept giving it another chance, hoping things would improve, but that hasn't been the case. There have been multiple instances where orders were completely wrong. One time, a friend ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and they came out without cheese. She politely asked for it to be fixed, but when it came back, it was still wrong. When she brought it up again, the waitress told her the chef said it was correct, which was frustrating since it very obviously wasn't. After going back and forth, they finally brought out eggs that actually had cheese in them. This was incredibly frustrating because while we waited for our friend to get her food, our own food went cold because we didn't want to eat without her. Having them make her eggs multiple times Tuuk time. On another visit, I ordered pancakes and something was clearly off. It wasn't just that they didn't taste good, it tasted like something used had gone bad. I couldn't tell if it was the batter itself or maybe something like the butter on top, but either way it was enough to make me question the quality of the ingredients being used. The waitress asked if I wanted new pancakes, which I found kind of funny because it was like she completely expected me to finish eating them and that I was just giving her feedback. The last time I went was with my family, and the service was extremely slow. We waited about 10 minutes just to have someone take our drink order, and another 10 minutes to actually get the drinks. After that, we waited again for someone to come back and take our food order, but no one returned. After nearly 30 minutes of just sitting there with drinks and no order taken, we decided to leave. My husband left cash on the table for the sodas and we walked out. The restaurant was completely empty and there was no reason for it to have taken so long. If you've been there, you know that it is a very open dining area which means we could see all of the weight staff just standing around and chatting. if it had been very busy and taken time to get our food or drink drinks we absolutely would have understood because we know the wait staff can only do so much at once. I know this place seems popular, but after multiple visits with CONSTANT issues, it feels like more than just bad luck. The food quality has been very inconsistent, and most of the staff I've interacted with seemed inexperienced and not particularly friendly. My wife and I discovered this charming eatery location on Battlefield Blvd just North of the draw bridge. The atmosphere inside is cozy and relaxing. During the warmer months the outdoor seating is a must as the scenic beauty of the marina adds to the ambience. The food here is amazing as is the wait staff. Possible the best fish and chips I have had in a very long time. Especially when accompanied with their home made Remoulade sauce! Standby folks! So we've been in Chesapeake since 2020. I've seen and driven by Lockside numerous times and for some reason just never put it on the "list." I can say this because we stopped for breakfast this morning - wifey was craving a breakfast burrito, which was delicious. We got the hashbrowns with it and they are super crispy and delicious. I mean crunchy! My daughter had just finished cross country practice, so wanted something small. She did the side "short stack" pancakes. They were $3.50 and rivaled the $16 pancakes from a recently opened Peake restaurant on Hillcrest. My daughter's friend got The American and was very happy. My wife and I cruised the back patio area because we couldn't sit back there when we checked in due to the pressure washing. They had finished while we were eating. What we find next is what makes this place great! The pictures we took don't due this place justice. The restaurant extends outside and then all the way down the waterfront where you come upon "The Backyard" their inside/outside bar with lots of bar seats, booths, outside seating, 2 fire pits with Adirondack's, glider rocker picnic tables, shuffleboard, bands on fri/sat. This place is a hidden gem overlooking the locks waterway with locally procured produce and seafood! A must stop and now our new favorite spot to stop! Beers on tap are cold and the bartenders are great! We had Jesse and Riley - they were very attentive and easy to talk to. Check out The Backyard ASAP! While this is your ordinary bar and grill, they also take reservations. The seating can be inside or outside which overlooks a water view but nothing to write home about. Upon arriving I was seated and immediately and handed a menu and drink menu. After placing my drink and food order, my drink was brought to me within 3 minutes. My appetizer was brought out within 10 minutes and my entire took 20 minutes to arrive. The wings presentation was nice, but overall, the taste was just okay at best. The blue cheese dressing was also a little thin and lacking in flavor. The French Quarter or Rasta Pasta, was quite bland and the sauce was somewhat watery. However the portion size was nice which I liked. After added salt and pepper to it, the pasta was quite editable. The interior of the place plenty of seating with deem lighting. The place wasn't packed but seemed to be have a handful of adults who may be regulars or those who just wanted to get out of the house. I was brought one slice of bacon that was cut in two to make it appear like two slices when in reality they brought an adult sized portion a one slice piece of bacon. The food was flavorless and my potato's came out cold. I asked to have them hot and the waitress took them and never returned with my order. We would not recommend returning here at all. I was so excited to come visit this place that yelpers posted. The place is unassuming and nice looking at it from outside. We got in early for breakfast to meet up with good friends and we were seated right away and orders taken at a good time. The place is cozy, warm and easy on the eyes. So it's a pleasant feel to begin with. Orders came soon and the service was fast and efficient. Now the food was really good. They have some low carbs breakfast and good carb just for pleasure. We all inhaled it. The food I ordered was so good I ordered one to go. After eating we went to go to the back where there's seating to eat while watching boats and water activity. That was pleasant and calming. The breeze was easy so the heat was low. It's so nice out there. The place is clean and the tables are well distanced to go around. The server never provided us with dining utensils. We had to get them from another server. The server told us the happy hour price for a beer was $6 a glass. It was really $3.50 a glass. Another server had to deliver our food. Our bill overcharged us for a beer we never had. Had to point that out to the server to get the correct bill. Despite the above incidents, we have the server a 20% tip. However, it will be a long time until we return. Exposing poorly trained servers to the customers is not a good business practice. read more

We wouldn't have needed a refill so badly if the food had not been doused in salt. The flounder sandwich was breaded in salt alone. The burger was premade and flavorless. The jambalaya was fine. The beer battered mahi mahi was the best thing. The chicken nachos were gross. The sweet tea must have been brewed a week earlier. It makes sense why it was so dead on a Friday night. It was very small. It was made with backing, not lump. So the menu description should reflect that. The meat was very very fine and flavorless. The she crap soup had loads of flavor, lots of seafood stock was used and heavy cream, there were large pieces of celery, and looked like bok choy??, hard to tell because it was nice and think. Very little crab. Not even a crab garnish on top. I was extremely disappointed in the amount of crab. But the flavor made up for it honestly. The flavor on its on was fabulous. I honestly feel that I just threw away 50 bucks on the worst food I was served in 10 years. I also threw way 20% to a server that was honestly to busy talking to the other staff members than serving us. We ordered a shrimp pasta dish, and a fish sandwich with fries. Pasta dish was horrible swimming in this weird fluid. It was more like old soup rather than a pasta dish. Shrimp was tiny frozen shrimp overcooked. I took 2 bites. The fish sandwich looked good, but absolutely no seasoning, very bland! French fries were ice cold. Just a terrible experience! This is a great location with beautiful views especially at sunset. I've been coming here for years. Usually for brunch, which is my fav, but occasionally for dinner. I went last week when the weather was nice and wanted to sit outside. Unfortunately, there was no outside availability. We decided to stay and eat in. I got the fried flounder fish sandwich, which looked amazing. However, I was a bit disappointed. It tasted like a mix of flour and panko, with little to no seasoning, and had a very thick bready coating. I ate the fries, they were really good. I ate a third of the fish, after taking a lot of the batter off, and took the rest home. Needless to say I didn't eat the rest. I will try back when the weather is warmer. read more

I had brunch at Lockside for the first time. The weather has low 70s and perfect for outdoor seating. They have a beautiful outside seating area by the water. I ordered the western omelette with home fries and white bread. Their Western includes tomatoes but I removed it & added mushrooms. The omelette was so tasty and hearty. It arrived hot and was a good portion. Our waitress was super friendly and treated us well. My only con is that their card system went down, so it took a while for us to get our cards back. I was not in a rush as I was enjoying brunch with friends, but wanted to share. Hopefully this is not a common issue. I loved that their breakfast & lunch menu ran until 3PM!
