    Cajun pasta
    Patrick P.

Lockside bar and grill in Chesapeake offers a scenic outdoor seating area and bar and a nice dining area inside. I stopped for diner on a Friday night and unfortunately there were no tables available outside. The menu has a variety of options and they offer drink specials. I thought the Cajun pasta was good. You can tell this place gets busy so don't expect 5 star service. I would go back for drinks only if able to sit in their outside seating area.

My wife and I discovered this charming eatery location on Battlefield Blvd just North of the draw bridge. The atmosphere inside is cozy and relaxing. During the warmer months the outdoor seating is a must as the scenic beauty of the marina adds to the ambience. The food here is amazing as is the wait staff. Possible the best fish and chips I have had in a very long time. Especially when accompanied with their home made Remoulade sauce! Mmmmm My wife and I have returned several times and plan on to continually to return for a fantastic dinning experience.

Standby folks! So we've been in Chesapeake since 2020. I've seen and driven by Lockside numerous times and for some reason just never put it on the "list." Probably due to the street side strip mall vibes... Here to tell you - stop by!! Stop by for the delicious food and the exceptional service annnd the hidden gem in the back... I can say this because we stopped for breakfast this morning - wifey was craving a breakfast burrito, which was delicious. We got the hashbrowns with it and they are super crispy and delicious. I mean crunchy! My daughter had just finished cross country practice, so wanted something small. She did the side "short stack" pancakes. They were $3.50 and rivaled the $16 pancakes from a recently opened Peake restaurant on Hillcrest. My daughter's friend got The American and was very happy. My wife and I cruised the back patio area because we couldn't sit back there when we checked in due to the pressure washing. They had finished while we were eating. What we find next is what makes this place great! The pictures we took don't due this place justice. The restaurant extends outside and then all the way down the waterfront where you come upon "The Backyard" their inside/outside bar with lots of bar seats, booths, outside seating, 2 fire pits with Adirondack's, glider rocker picnic tables, shuffleboard, bands on fri/sat. This place is a hidden gem overlooking the locks waterway with locally procured produce and seafood! A must stop and now our new favorite spot to stop! Beers on tap are cold and the bartenders are great! We had Jesse and Riley - they were very attentive and easy to talk to. Check out The Backyard ASAP! The views are awesome, with the beach decor and palm trees it really makes you think that you are not in Chesapeake.

While this is your ordinary bar and grill, they also take reservations. The seating can be inside or outside which overlooks a water view but nothing to write home about. Upon arriving I was seated and immediately and handed a menu and drink menu. After placing my drink and food order, my drink was brought to me within 3 minutes. My appetizer was brought out within 10 minutes and my entire took 20 minutes to arrive. The wings presentation was nice, but overall, the taste was just okay at best. The blue cheese dressing was also a little thin and lacking in flavor. The French Quarter or Rasta Pasta, was quite bland and the sauce was somewhat watery. However the portion size was nice which I liked. After added salt and pepper to it, the pasta was quite editable. The interior of the place plenty of seating with deem lighting. The place wasn't packed but seemed to be have a handful of adults who may be regulars or those who just wanted to get out of the house. Overall this place won't wow you, but it's good enough that you don't mind coming back to have somewhere to go.

We recently had dinner at Lockside Bar and Grill located just before the Great Bridge Locks in the heart of Chesapeake. The atmosphere here is fantastic and the waterfront setting is amazing.

Wow!!! This was the worst breakfast I've had in years. I ordered the breakfast omelette and requested hash browns with side of bacon. I was brought one slice of bacon that was cut in two to make it appear like two slices when in reality they brought an adult sized portion a one slice piece of bacon. The food was flavorless and my potato's came out cold. I asked to have them hot and the waitress took them and never returned with my order. We would not recommend returning here at all. Unless you simply want drinks. The drink was the only thing that was decent. All in all I would not recommend.

I was so excited to come visit this place that yelpers posted. The place is unassuming and nice looking at it from outside. We got in early for breakfast to meet up with good friends and we were seated right away and orders taken at a good time. The place is cozy, warm and easy on the eyes. So it's a pleasant feel to begin with. Orders came soon and the service was fast and efficient. Now the food was really good. They have some low carbs breakfast and good carb just for pleasure. We all inhaled it. The food I ordered was so good I ordered one to go. After eating we went to go to the back where there's seating to eat while watching boats and water activity. That was pleasant and calming. The breeze was easy so the heat was low. It's so nice out there. The place is clean and the tables are well distanced to go around. I really like this place and I plan to come back in the near future.

Vibes- outdoor seating and bar was great. Nice breeze and beautiful views and space. Service- everyone we interacted with was helpful and friendly. Special shoutout to Tiffany who took great care of us. Drinks- got a glass of wine and Bloody Mary. My guest said it was the best bloody she's had in a while. Food- fries were good, mahi tacos needed more flavor, Maybe season the coleslaw and dish better. And the avocado salad was Fresh.

Had a great time!! Can't wait to go back. It was beautiful there and the food was great. The waitress was sweet as well.

We stopped by for an early dinner on 14 August. My wife had the salmon and risotto and I had the fried flounder, substituted side Caesar for the mashed potatoes. Atmosphere: have beachy - waterside joint, with a dose of sports bar and a tiny hint of elegance. Service: the star of the show. No wait at any stage. Greeted by the hostess as soon as we walked in, and seated immediately. Waitress showed up at the table within 60 seconds and took drink orders. She showed back up 2-3 minutes later with ice cold drinks. Obtw- $2.75 for a miller lite = #winning! Food: my wife loved the salmon. I'm from Louisiana and the courtbouillon is FOR REAL good. I really liked my flounder, and was glad I went with the salad. Good to great food, great service, dinner for 2 for $50. Glad we went!

    Baby it's cold inside!

We love Lockside. Food is always great (burger night is my favorite!) and service is top notch. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because several times we have come in for breakfast during the winter and it is absolutely freezing inside. Today-63 degrees. Eat fast if you want hot food!

Everything was just meh - Mediocre food, mediocre atmosphere inside ...we couldn't get a table outside. My shrimp and grits were too salty, and I only got it because they could not grill or blacken my fish - it only comes deep fried. The service was good though, and can't beat $5 wine and beer during their happy hour.

It is now 2:45PM over an hour later and we are still waiting with no updates from staff. I completely understand that lunch rushes happen, but communication is basic customer service. If the kitchen is running this far behind, customers deserve to be told upfront so they can make an informed decision. I was waiting in the car with my toddler, who fell asleep around 1:30 PM while we were still waiting. Sitting in a parking lot for over an hour with no communication is unacceptable. If you value your time, I would not recommend ordering to-go from here. Respect for customers' time clearly isn't a priority. Updated Finally received our food at 3:45 to only be left more disappointed by the portion sizes. Only received one piece of fish for a dinner, yams are not homemade and Mac and cheese was dry. They offered a free drink at 2:40 pm which doesn't nearly compensate for time. They continued to take orders by phone and in person and couldn't handle demand. At a point when your kitchen is over 2 hours behind, you need to push out the orders you already have and turn people away. I would much rather have been turned away and to try them on a different day with a coupon.

It's in the same group of buildings such as Michael's (around the corner). My visit here was on October 27, 2025. The outside view of the business is simple, but effective. They have a specials chalkboard next to the entrance. Parking wasn't an issue on this visit, but I'm sure it can fill up at busier times. My mom and I were both in the area as she wanted to go to the Michael's store here. When we came inside, it wasn't busy, as it was around 3:30 pm when we got here. We were greeted by the one who would be our server for this visit. He gave us menus to look at and asked us for our drink orders. I generally stick with water with lemon, which I did here. We were there during the time where it was still the lunch menu (though for us, it was more like dinner for us that day). When he came back with the drinks, he asked if we were ready to order, but we weren't just yet. He also asked if we had any questions about the menu and options and gave us more time to mull over the menu. When he came back, we weren't completely ready, but asked a question about the specials of the day. After that, we knew what we would get and placed our food order. My mom ordered the Meatloaf Lunch Special with mashed potatoes and spinach. I went with the Meatball Sub Lunch Special with mashed potatoes, though I don't normally do potatoes that often. After about ten minutes or so, the food came to the table. The food looked really good, and it was hot too. The bread for the Meatball Sub was very soft and easy to eat. The meatballs were huge and made for a worthy meal. The mashed potatoes with gravy was really good and fulfilling too. My mom loved the meatloaf, and their meatloaf doesn't have ketchup on it like some other places do. She loved the meatloaf, spinach, and mashed potatoes too. After we were done, he asked if we wanted any desserts. We both declined as I normally don't do them anymore. Overall, we both had an excellent experience here. The food and service were on point. The food I had that day did spike my blood sugars, but I expected that with bread and mashed potatoes. I don't make a habit of that though. They are a great local business. There are lots of food options to choose from. If you are looking for a place to eat while in this part of Chesapeake, this place is worth coming to.

Situated right under the York River bridge, not far from the Yorktown museum, is the cutest village. I'm sorry, they can't claim it as part of the original Yorktown but it is cute. There is a lovely river walk...hence the name of the restaurant. They have some of the BEST views in the area being right there. We had reservations however it being the busiest day for restaurants, we had to chill our heels for a few moments before being taken back. I was more than ok with this as we ended up getting a window seat (see above for reference). Thank heavens they put the name of the server in the receipt cuz y'all know my Swiss cheese brain. Cara was the wonderful server who took care of us. She was always there ready for me to get my mum good & spoiled. Super friendly and very helpful. The buffet, it was impressive for a buffet and while not a big buffet, it was specialized. First up were 3 different kinds of salads, then a fruit platter, and bagels & cream cheese. They had a raw bar with shrimp & oysters next, then breakfast stuff (eggs, potatoes bacon etc) mac & cheese, garlic mashed taters & then a carving station with turkey, ham & lamb. Finally a small but respectful dessert table. If you couldn't find something to fill you, you weren't looking. The single sour note of the buffet was the salmon and Mac & cheese. I'll know better next time. Overall the River Walk has come back with perfect timing and style. I highly recommend a visit. Parking is a pain but patience will help

Since we knew ahead of time what we were ordering, we gave our appetizers orderes first. We ordered the soup of the day which was the she crab soup. It is highly recommended. We only ordered a cup and not a bowl because we were unsure of how it tasted. The Caesar salad had no anchovie flavor like we are use to and was just medicore. We ordered the meatballs which had lamb and pork in it. They were juicy, tender and just needed a little more seasoning. The Calamari was fried to perfection for me and could've used a pinch of salt. The sweet tea was everything and I would recommend it. For the main entrees, we chose the shrimp and scallop risotto and the beef braised Ragau. There were two scallops and four grilled shrimp and few asparagus with some chopped up bacon. This dish I highly recommend as well. The beef was tender, seasoned and pasta was cooked perfect. Overall, this is a nice and quiet place to dine at anytime. I would recommend and will definitely return again. Jason was on point with his promptness.

I still love the OG Bay Local and probably need to visit there again to be reminded of why we fell in love in the first place, but the location on General Booth... hard to beat, especially being so close. Another positive is the food quantity, quality, and price for what you are getting. Sure, almost every food establishment had to raise their price, but Bay Local seem to be very reasonable, ESPECIALLY for what you get. I know several other places that have good food, but you are paying several dollars more for what Bay Local offers that is similar (in some cases) but not slacking on portion control and quality. That is huge! Bay Local is a "well-oiled machine" with management, staff, and operations (not their first rodeo). They accommodated every dietary restriction thrown at them (gluten-free, vegan, keto, "I only eat food that looks like it was prepared by a wizard") -- seriously impressive. No one went home hangry or disappointed. The Ghent itself is gorgeous -- cozy enough for a date night but spacious enough for 80 Perfect for date night, nights out with friends, or casual command socials where you want great food and zero drama. Final verdict: five stars across the board. Highly recommended

Great Place to host an event for any occasion!!!!!…read more We hosted our Command "After the Holiday" Party. We have remote workers throughout the US and Norfolk is where we call home. We decided to host it at this beautiful event and thet did not dissapoint. Everything was done so well from the food to the staff. They made us feel so comfortable and we were even able to have familes with there little ones join. They made sure everyone that was there was able to enjoy and have a great time. The Managers Mr and Mrs. Mayhung made us feel welcomed and taken care of. The staff was tryly remarkable and we are looking forward to many more events with them. Lisa Debouse
