Bourbon street drums ($24) seasonal menu
Krisha B.

My husband and I came to The Butcher's Son for our anniversary and had such a great first experience. Lindsey took care of us and she was awesome--super attentive, easy to talk to, and gave solid recommendations that we were really happy with. You can tell this place takes pride in what they do. They focus on high quality ingredients and locally sourced vegetables, really leaning into the whole farm-to-table, support local mindset. We started with the BBQ nachos special as an appetizer and honestly... it was huge. Easily enough to share with 5-6 people. The portion of pulled pork surprised us (in a good way). The pico de gallo was fresh and garlicky, the BBQ sauce had a nice sweetness, and it all worked really well with the American cheese. For my entrée, I ordered the Bourbon Street Drums ($24) from the seasonal menu. It's bacon-wrapped chicken legs with a sweet BBQ sauce, served with broccolini and gouda mac and cheese. Everything on the plate was so good. I would've kept eating if I hadn't already filled up on the nachos. My husband got the French dip sandwich. Lindsey recommended adding the jalapeño bacon jam (which is also paired with their French dipping spring rolls appetizer), and he said it was a great call. It added a little extra kick and flavor that worked really well with the sandwich. He didn't care for the au jus too much, so the other sauce made up for it! Overall, such a good experience from start to finish. Great food, generous portions, and excellent service. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

This is such a delicious and classic steak restaurant. They have the best "early bird special" if you go Sunday-Thursday from 4-5:30. It's $15 for a steak, salmon or pork chop and 2 sides. All are delicious. Also they have the best steak butter or sauce choices that are to die for. I love the peppercorn one. You can't go wrong with any food selection here, it's all fresh and good! The service has always been top notch too, at least at the Chesapeake location.

Guinness Steak, corned beef and hash

For St Patrick's Day, a couple of guys from work wanted to go here for dinner. We missed the happy hour Tuesday specials, but sat down to enjoy a cold IPA and heard the special of Tenerloin steak in Guinness with corn beef and some hash. Decided to go with the 12-oz and it was a solid plate. The potatoes were a little dry but the mixture of these were a perfect way to enjoy St Patty's without getting beer spilled on me!

We recently had dinner at The Butcher's Son located on South Battlefield Boulevard in the heart of Great Bridge in Chesapeake. They have a fantastic Happy Hour menu and I opted for the Cheeseburger. It was cooked perfectly and it was very tasty. The staff is fantastic here and the food aside, they are reason enough to come back again and again...

Food was nothing short of amazing! Everything came out in such perfect timing from the appetizers. The staff was super helpful and insanely welcoming! I personally ordered the Brian's Classic which was a delicious assortment of Surf & Turf with a perfectly baked potato and salad topped with just the right amount of toppings.

Came for dinner with family on a Sunday evening so it wasn't crowded. Started with the French dip roll and calamari, the rolls were very tasty but the calamari was dry and less great. The portion size was less than expected. For dinner, I had the ribeye med rare and hubby had the filet special. Steaks were all cooked as ordered. Others had the sirloin and the steak pasta. Everyone enjoy their meal except for the person who ordered the French dip sandwich they said it was too salty and couldn't finish it. All in all good visit with good service.

We had reservations for dinner on Father's Day. I wasn't the one who made them, so we were a bit surprised that it was only buffet for the night. Great buffet dinner though! They had prime rib, sirloin, pork loin, mac and cheese, salmon, green beans, shrimp, oysters, salad, assorted desserts. Everything was great. The service was even better! Can't wait to go again!

Ribeye crabcakes

The food was excellent. I ordered crabcakes and my husband ordered ribeye. We also had two appetizers, one of which was the double eggs and the other was the stuffed mushrooms. They were excellent as well. The service was spectacular and the ambience. Well, it's nice, but it isn't as nice as the food and the service

Super small and EXPENSIVE oysters.

Ask the Community - The Butcher's Son

Do they still have brunch buffets?

I dined most recently on a Sunday & they offered brunch service - not a brunch buffet. I'm not sure about the Chesapeake location, though, since I haven't dined there.

What's the dress code?

Basically anything decent. I wouldn't wear flip flop or gym/workout apparel. In the summer, I've… Read more

How is their brunch?

Awesome but right now they are only taking take out orders... Call them, they will take your order and bring it to your car...

How should you dress for Sunday brunch?

Anything goes. Some straight from church all dressed up; others in flip-flops and shorts.

Can someone explain the Sunday brunch to me please like what exactly is it how does it work, and what kind of food options are there is it only meats or are there veggie and fruits too?

Brunch runs from 9am - 2pm, the brunch Buffet is stocked with turkey sausage, applewood smoked bacon, biscuits and gravy, assorted cooked vegetables, home fries, eggs Benedict with ham, a soup of the day, cheesy breakfast Mac and cheese, sliced… Read more

Are the portion size pretty big or is it a reasonable size?

The steaks depend on ounce. The seafood and sides are a good portion. I usually have left overs.

I kept giving it another chance, hoping things would improve, but that hasn't been the case. There have been multiple instances where orders were completely wrong. One time, a friend ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and they came out without cheese. She politely asked for it to be fixed, but when it came back, it was still wrong. When she brought it up again, the waitress told her the chef said it was correct, which was frustrating since it very obviously wasn't. After going back and forth, they finally brought out eggs that actually had cheese in them. This was incredibly frustrating because while we waited for our friend to get her food, our own food went cold because we didn't want to eat without her. Having them make her eggs multiple times Tuuk time. On another visit, I ordered pancakes and something was clearly off. It wasn't just that they didn't taste good, it tasted like something used had gone bad. I couldn't tell if it was the batter itself or maybe something like the butter on top, but either way it was enough to make me question the quality of the ingredients being used. The waitress asked if I wanted new pancakes, which I found kind of funny because it was like she completely expected me to finish eating them and that I was just giving her feedback. The last time I went was with my family, and the service was extremely slow. We waited about 10 minutes just to have someone take our drink order, and another 10 minutes to actually get the drinks. After that, we waited again for someone to come back and take our food order, but no one returned. After nearly 30 minutes of just sitting there with drinks and no order taken, we decided to leave. My husband left cash on the table for the sodas and we walked out. The restaurant was completely empty and there was no reason for it to have taken so long. If you've been there, you know that it is a very open dining area which means we could see all of the weight staff just standing around and chatting. if it had been very busy and taken time to get our food or drink drinks we absolutely would have understood because we know the wait staff can only do so much at once. I know this place seems popular, but after multiple visits with CONSTANT issues, it feels like more than just bad luck. The food quality has been very inconsistent, and most of the staff I've interacted with seemed inexperienced and not particularly friendly. Despite having been in there at least seven times I have never once left there without something being wrong or having terrible service.

The bar was definitely catering to regulars and most of the patrons look like they are there daily for their drinks. The bartenders and waitstaff are mainly made of good looking girls that are the main draw to regulars. There were enough TVs available to appease sports fans and there were some gaming machines on the other side of the bar. There is outdoor seating and I think it is mainly for smokers. The seating was mainly bar seating with a few available bench type tables. The actual reason why I came here was for the pork chops that I saw on the online menu which were unfortunately not available at this restaurant as the menu was changed recently. I ordered the fried cheese curds and a burger with a salad. The food was only ok and nothing to write home about. Service was mainly for the regulars as they were drinking more which added to their tabs. I ate my food and I was out of there, pretty disappointed. The bathrooms were kind of gross as well but I guess normal for a bar. I definitely don't recommend it here if you want to have a nice dinner. It's ok if you want to look at pretty girls while having some drinks and bar food.

Consistency--both in the kitchen and in the dining room--has made this longtime favorite a reliable choice for those who value substance over flash. The service reflects that same steadiness. The staff is welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing--always ready with thoughtful suggestions for anyone navigating the menu. I began with the garden salad, a straightforward but well-executed mix of fresh greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sweet Vidalia onions, finished with housemade croutons and a balanced balsamic vinaigrette. It's a simple dish done right, which sets the tone for what follows. The she-crab soup--an award-winning staple--delivers exactly what you hope for in a classic rendition. Rich, velvety, and deeply satisfying, it's best enjoyed in a cup unless you plan on making it the centerpiece of your meal. For the entrée, the French Dip stands out as a clear highlight. Built on a soft roll and filled with thinly sliced prime rib--slow-roasted to achieve both tenderness and depth of flavor--it's served with a properly seasoned au jus that brings the entire sandwich together. It's a dish that leans on quality ingredients and careful execution rather than unnecessary embellishment, and it succeeds because of it. Court House Café continues to earn its reputation the right way: consistent food, thoughtful service, and an atmosphere that feels rooted in the community it serves.
