unfortunately, this place was pretty underwhelming for me and i really wanted to enjoy it. it really did. tried to do the martini thing, i discovered im just not a martini girl per se. i did end up getting a lychee martini, which was pretty good, i must admit. i ordered 2 of the crab deviled eggs ... did not like. we also ordered the onion dip, no type of seasoning whatsoever. their saving grace for me were the herb rolls. they were delicious. i will say on the other hand, the ambience was very nice. and the service was really good. will i be tempted to go back, no unfortunately. even looking at the overall menu outside of what was ordered, nothing stood out to me. read more

First of all, I'm not sure why this place has such low ratings because we were VERY happy with our food and service Walking into the restaurant, the aroma of fresh buttery seafood hit me in the face. You can tell that the food was going to be amazing. The restaurant was beautiful with very fancy furniture. The oysters were a bit small but came with a delicious tangy mignonette. I wish we had gotten the dozen because I was wanting more. The skirt steak was cooked medium rare and it was very tender. I got a side of chimichurri sauce in case it needed flavor but the herbed butter gave it plenty of flavor and the extra sauce was not needed. The herbed fries were crispy and flavorful. The aioli it came with complimented it very well. My husband got the beef Wellington and he said it was the best beef Wellington he's ever had. For dessert we got the pavlova which was soft and airy. The sorbet it came with was homemade and wonderfully tart. The service was definitely up to standard. I have no idea why other reviews complained about the service. We never had to flag anyone down. When I asked for an opinion on wine, the waitress was honest and said she didn't know much about wine but recommended the ones that sold the most. Our waitress was attentive, quick, and very professional. The manager even stopped by our table to make sure we were doing okay. They weren't busy when I came in on a Monday. Located right near Atlantic surf park it's a great restaurant to try when visiting the oceanfront. Our server was very attentive and service was pretty fast. The low lighting gives the restaurant a modern feel and makes for the perfect dinner/date night location. Everything I tried was to die for. Love all things cheesey so the Mac n cheese and crab dip are some of the best I've had in the area. I was blown away by the Tomahawk. We were recommended the chimchurri accompaniment and it was perfect. I will say it was a pricey dinner but we were splurging for my birthday. We came here for a lunch date and it was a mixed bag - the place was completely empty, except for us. Probably because we were the only people there, they gave us a little sampler appetizer before we actually ordered, which was really nice. Inside of the restaurant was pretty and the bathrooms were nice. We parked next-door at a pay to park spot that was pretty affordable. I think it was $3.50 for two hours of parking. Strangely, the service was slow even though we were the only people there. From beginning to end was an hour and 20 minutes. For food, we got the skirt steak with the shareable mac & cheese, a little side salad, a cup of clam chowder, the herb rolls, a deviled egg and a crabcake. For dessert, we got the flourless chocolate cake. I have to say all the food was very good. The skirt steak was pretty tender for the cut and I think a decent value, the clam chowder and mac & cheese was delicious as were the deviled egg and crabcake. The crabcake was mostly crab and had very little binder so it fell apart a little bit, but that's kind of what you want to maximize amount of crab you're getting. The rolls were a little bit unusual. They were sweet and salty on the outside with large flakes of salt, but on the inside, they were kind of savory because of the herbs, a little unusual but definitely enjoyable. The chocolate cake was very rich and dense and had some nice orange zest with it along with the ice cream on top. Overall, the food was really good, but the service was a little slow and it's a little bit of a pricier restaurant. Honestly, I am sickened by the amount of money we spent here last night. For the service and the amount of mistakes, it was just unacceptable. For the TL;DR version, we won't be back. Eater beware! Word to the wise, if you're really going to eat here, do yourself a favor and download the inKind app to get a $50 off $150 offer. You'll need it. We had a rezzie for 6pm because we had a show at the Dome at 8pm (we told our server this in a conversation when we sat down). We placed our cocktail drinks within 10 minutes of being seated and proceeded to wait 25 MINUTES for them to arrive to the table. Strike one. You need new bartenders. If you can't handle tables and a bar, you've got a long term problem. We ordered the calamari which was pretty good, but they put it on the table and we didn't even have silverware or plates yet. Oof. Strike two. The power went out for MAYBE 2 minutes and 30 seconds...maybe. Ok, whatever. Things happen. I ordered the skirt steak and fries which came out next to cold. My husband ordered a petit filet mignon with a baked potato and added the fancy stuff (the option for $19.50). Well, it came out without it. Our server kindly returned to the kitchen and said they would prepare it, but at this point it's close to the show, and we were going to have to box it anyway. Strike three. The service here aims to please, but misses the mark. While our waitress was sweet, she disappeared for long periods of time, didn't fill waters adequately (in a 2 hour visit) and didn't pay attention to the fact that we had a deadline. Just inexperienced. Overall employees just weren't smiling and didn't have good demeanor with guests. My cocktail was taken away with drink left it in. Sigh. Also, what is it with these bathrooms? This place is a sister restaurant to Mi Vida down the street and they are SO DARK. And only 2 of them? For the size of the place? Wow. The manager stopped by to ask how things were and I was honest. He seemed to think blaming everything on the power outage was acceptable. People, we are talking about a 2 minute outage. That doesn't put your bar and your kitchen behind by 30 minutes, or excuse mistakes. They did throw in a comp dessert, but I would have preferred they lessened the bill. I went to The Grill because I had an issue with a dish from a previous visit, and the manager was nice enough to assist me. She was very friendly, upbeat, and accommodating!! She even met me outside to bring me my food. Which was really nice!! The restaurant is very modern and sleek with a nice vibe!! I got the grilled branzino, fried lobster fritters, and mac n cheese, and a pineapple mocktail. The lobster fritters are definitely good, a must try for sure! The tartar sauce is delicious!! The mac n cheese was a decent portion and was good, but could have been more flavorful. The Branzino had a beautiful presentation and was a good size portion. The top was grilled well but the bottom of the fish appeared a little undercooked and slimy. It was appealing until I got to that part. There was also a lot of bones. The mocktail was ok, but it kinda fell flat for me. It tasted like it was missing something. I do like the food here but I expect a higher standard because the food is a bit pricey!! Yesterday, I had the pleasure of eating at "The Grill!" I had researched before traveling to VA Beach from Columbus, OH what restaurant I wanted to visit and I couldn't wait! And boy! IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! Darlin (Amazing member of the management team) spoke to us at our table and started everything off right by explaining several great dishes and I felt like we orders it all! We started with All Bites and it was truly amazing! Hitting all the notes, including the dips. I cannot say enough about the Honey Herb rolls! I wanted to order a dozen to go or even as my main dish! No lie! The New England clam chowder was chocked full of clams that were so sumptuous in a delicious chowder that was perfectly seasoned! Liz stepped in after Darlin and continued the experience, bringing out or main dishes which were the Crispy Fish slider special, which INCLUDED Caesar salad, aioli fries AND flourless chocolate cake! The term "slider" is a misnomer because each slider was like a whole sandwich and it was amazing, even on the second day reheated! Now you know that's good! We also had the crab avocado toast and the crab was abundant succulent! I wanted to say a special thank you to Darlin and Liz for making the walk there so well worth it and then some! I cannot wait to return! If you're on the fence about going the grill, get off of it and make your way there! The atmosphere is high profile, yet relaxed. My wife and I shared an anniversary there for an evening dinner. Made reservations on Open Table for 5pm on a Friday. Let me start by saying... man, the customer service was 20/10. I felt like I had stock in the place. Every level of service was provided, our waiter explained the menu to us upon seating which i found to be very informative for the experience, it was like have a tour guide on a museum visit. Tables were set lovely, very clean establishment from the tables, bar, and bathrooms. Everything was tidy and sharp. Now for the food, a good word to describe it was poignant. We enjoyed everything we ordered besides only one thing. Drinks: We order the Rum Me Over and the Without The Punch for a palette cleanser. Both were really good drinks. Appetizers: Whatever you do, never leave this place without ordering the Honey Herb Rolls. I'll just leave you with that information. We also ordered the calamari which I wasn't a fan of at all. The batter they fried it in is tasty but the calamari to me just didn't have a good cook on it. On the rubbery chewy side. Entrees: I had the skirt steak which I think is a very slept on cut of steak. Ordered it Medium and it came with had a beautiful side of greens and I picked chimichurri as my sauce. Paired it with the Twice Baked Potato. Phenomenal. Wife ordered the Baked Chicken which was juicy and had a good flavorful but felt it needed a smig bit more, it came with a sauce so she did it with the Soy Ponzu and that really added the each flavor i felt it needed. That got paired it with the Spiced Creamed Spinach. Everything was to the point. My only take away is that for how spacious the place is the seating is rather tight but manageable. We were able to be seated outside on the patio and even though the temperature dropped, the overhead heaters did a great job. The service was spectacular! Hubs and I found a small window of quiet time away from family on Christmas Day to have dinner here. I was so glad they were one of the few restaurants open on a holiday. The atmosphere is intimate and the staff complimented the vibe. FYI... the menu is a la carte, so this is what I had for dinner. Cajun branzino - I like that it's grilled and branzino is a beautiful fish. However, it was way too salty and couldn't finish it after 1 bite. Wedge Salad - I love a good wedge salad and when I see it on the menu, I have to get it! The marinated tomatoes/onions that tops this salad were yummy. But it's weird that they pull a full piece of pork belly, I had to cut it up in pieces and at one point I was just dipping it in the salad dressing and eating the pork belly that way! LOL! For dresser I had the Pavlova. I never had it, so I am unsure how it supposed to taste but it was good. It was tarty because of the sorbet and raspberries used, so if you like a tarty sweet dessert, I guess this is for you. The best thing I had was the cappuccino! It was nice and smooth. Honestly, everything could have been better for the price. If you want a better seasoned decently priced branzino that actually comes with sides you're better off going to Bonefish. While the crab fondue is highly recommended, it was nothing special. Just some gooey cheese with crab and no seasoning. If anything I would recommend the herb rolls and the Grill Punch...those were tasty but not enough for a trip back. We came to The Grill for the first time to celebrate a birthday, and overall it was a great experience. Our server, Alphonso, was friendly and had excellent recommendations that really helped guide our ordering. We started with the deviled eggs and the salted honey herb rolls. Both were solid, with the rolls being especially addictive. For my entrée, I had the pan-roasted salmon, which was well prepared and flavorful. A few things to note: entrées are definitely on the expensive side, and everything is served à la carte, so the bill adds up quickly. Cocktails were also pretty pricey- almost entrée-level. I decided to try the Grill Punch, which was enjoyable. That said, the birthday celebration ended on a high note with a thoughtful, sweet birthday treat for the celebrant, which was a really nice touch. The vibes are electric! The staff is super kind and helpful! Donnie was a great server. She answered our questions and gave recommendations on the menu. The food and drinks are simply delicious!! And the presentation is everything! I started with a Cosmo-blanc, which is their spin on a cosmopolitan. It had cranberry foam...just excellent! We had the caramelized onion dip with chips...the dip was delish. They said it came with house chips, but they were actually regular potato chips. I think house chips would have been better as it would've held up better with the dip. We also had the crab deviled eggs. They were good, no wow factor like the rest of the meal. For my meal, I had the crab cake. It's rare I can get a crab cake that's gluten-free so I was excited. It did not disappoint!! It was light and full of lump crabmeat!! We shared the roasted cauliflower, twice baked potato, and grilled sweet potatoes. All of the side was excellent! FYI, they use nuts in most of the garnishes accompanying the sides so ask for it sans nuts if you have an allergy. For dessert l, had the trio of sorbets - lime, mango, and raspberry. I was pretty upset that this place was disappointing. I always feel like I'm a good judge of an establishment by the pictures and things of that nature. This was a big miss for me. I'll start by saying the people are friendly. At least the people outside of my waitress that came by. I usually ask for a lovely table or a nice booth in my comments on my reservation. They put me at a table right in the middle of the floor where everybody walks by and you're just in high traffic. I personally don't like those places because people usually kick your seat. I can say nobody kicked my seat here. We sat down and she asked us if we want to tap or bottled water. I'm with two other guys. I say I want bottled water I don't know about them. That means I want bottled water. Instead, her response was "oh the bottle is big enough for everybody". I basically drink my two glasses in 5 minutes and the bottle was already empty. Because she wanted to share it, which is not what I asked. I'm not paying for bottled water for everybody. I'm paying for it for me. Then she lets 20 minutes go by and she just comes back and goes, Are you ready to order? She didn't even take our liquor drink drinks. I said to her I mean, I'm ready to get a cocktail if that's what you mean and she said oh I didn't come over and ask you that already. Then when we do get our cocktails, she's like OK what would you like to place for food. I was like, i've never been here. Can you explain the menu? All she could really tell me is that that bread is made in house and it's good. Like no special, no this is my favorite, nothing. Side bar: when I was looking at the menu, I was thinking to myself usually a ribeye is just like 5-10 dollars more than a strip. But at this place, it was 20 more dollars. Was it a better cut of beef? Like wagyu or something to have that price differing My waitress couldn't tell me. We get the bread in the crab dip. The crab dip was super cheesy and I wish it had just a little bit more crab. Then for dinner, I get a steak with a twice baked potato. When ordering I asked if I could get my steak medium plus. My waitress had no idea what that was and I said that's fine. I said are they gonna cook it a little bit more under or over do you know your cook? She said they're gonna cook it to order and if it's under, I'll just take it back. I ordered medium, and the thing came out more rare than I can tell you. The waitress never came back to check on the food. After sitting there for 15 minutes, a manager just randomly comes over and says how's everything going? Everything tasting great. I told the manager I don't send things back, but I'm just not gonna eat this. I'll pay for it but I'm not gonna eat it because it's too rare. It's still mooing on the plate. And it wasn't just mine. The other guys was undercooked as well. They were just eating it. She's like we'll just let me get an opportunity to make it right. I'm like no I don't like sending things back. I don't trust it. You know I'm good. She's super insistent so I let her. She comes back and there's no butter. There's no nothing on the steak anymore and it's just barely medium. Because that's how rare it was before. I just told her it was fine and I picked around it. I couldn't finish my food because this is too rare and my friends were shocked that mine was under mostly still The waitress finally came back and said oh was your steak under I didn't know. Did it come out better? I said it was really bland because they didn't put any more butter on it. They put it back on and cooked all the butter off. She was like oh did you want me to get you a cup of melted butter? Dude, I wish I could tell you the thoughts that were going through my head. Because this place is trying to be an upscale establishment. And the waitresses just lost and the Cooking Staff doesn't seem like they know what they're doing because they can't guarantee anything over medium. But the real kicker is that they automatically put 20% gratuity on my tab. And I tip $50 on 200 all the time and if you're bad I tip you about $30 on 200. That waitress was not worth the amount of money that she got out of me and neither was that establishment. Usually I feel like I'm paying for an experience and I accept that, but this was the first time that I was thoroughly disappointed in myself that I thought I would enjoy something and I ended up feeling like I got got. For my entree i had the lobster roll, it has a good amount of lobster but the bread is a lil disappointing it was not warm and the sides were hard not buttered well and for the price $37 for one it was not a good choice. Went to the grill for date night last night and had a great experience. It was our first time there, and everyone from the hostess station, to our waitress, to the manager was very nice. We shared the mussels as an appetizer and the sauce was delicious! We ordered the crabcake and the rockfish as our dinners, with a side of fries to share, and everything was cooked to perfection. I wish I would've taken pictures because the plates came out so beautiful. As expected on a Saturday night, it was busy, but it didn't take away from our experience at all. My only complaint was with the leftovers. I hadn't even finished half of my meal, but when they boxed it up, they only packed about half of the remaining main course and didn't include any of my sides. I took my sister to The Grill as a Galentine's/early Birthday date. The venue is very nice! However, I do not like how the seating is set up. It's hard to be intimate when it's almost family-style seating in some areas. For food, we tried "all the bites" that included crab deviled eggs, fried lobster bites, bacon wrapped dates, and lamb skewers. The lamb was very gamey and mushy in texture. Not palatable at all. The egg whites of the deviled eggs were rubbery. The fried lobster was good and surprisingly, the bacon wrapped dates were the best thing on the platter! We both had the Salmon and crab cake from the grill along with the roasted cauliflower and Mac and cheese. The salmon was underwhelming and seemed more baked than grilled. The crab cake was extremely salty; same with the Mac and cheese. The cauliflower had tree nuts and an arugula pesto. It wasn't bad, just an acquired taste. My sister loved it! I had the sunset sangria which was a red sangria with orange juice and raspberry! It was very good. To celebrate my sister's birthday, they gave a complimentary piece of their flourless chocolate cake with a sparkler! Very cute! And the cake was very good. Our waitress, Ceara B, was very nice but came to the table a little too much. She was actually kind of disruptive. I understand she was trying to be attentive, but she needs to find balance. The experience/food was not at all worth the $260 spent. Also, be mindful that all seasons after 4PM have a 20% gratuity automatically added regardless of party size. All the appetizers were good, but two stood out for different reasons. The deviled eggs are only good if you like capers,the flavor can be overwhelming for some. Now the rolls... omg, the rolls need their own review. Talk about delicious. I would literally go back just to order the rolls alone. We also had the house version of a lemon drop. I can't remember the name, but I think it was the Sour Puss. It was a quality lemon drop and perfect for lightweights. For the main course, we all ordered different entrées: skirt steak, branzino, a HUGE 9oz lump crab cake, and salmon. I paired my steak with the twice-baked potato,and yes, another order of rolls. I tried everyone's meal, and I honestly can't pick the best one. Everything was a 10/10. The interior of the restaurant was very high-end. It gave Miami vibes, not Virginia Beach. Between the service, the ambiance, and the food, this place is worth the money. And coming from someone who lives in NYC, the check for four people with drinks, appetizers, and entrées was super affordable. My husband and I came to this restaurant on a whim, and I was satisfied but he wasn't. We ordered the rolls which were good but had too much salt so I just brushed the chunks off the top. I ordered the Ora King salmon and really liked it. I liked the cook of it and the sauce it came with was phenomenal. We also got a side of fries which was a very large portion. We both shared them and still maybe got through half of them. We enjoyed the aioli they came with. My husband got the New York strip steak and it was more done than he had asked for. It was also cooked a bit unevenly. The waitress asked how the food was soon after we got it so we could've mentioned it, but my husband didn't want to. The decor and ambiance are really nice. The staff and service were friendly and good, not as polished as the restaurant would suggest though. We ordered the All the Bites dish and all of the bites were really good. The Bacon wrapped dates were a nice surprise, deviled eggs were really good with a nice amount of crab. Lamb skewers were tasty, but the lobster fritters were a little over fried and took away from the flavor. We intended on ordering the Beef Wellington, but it was sold out this evening. Nothing else really appealed to us, so we didn't order anything else. That's not to say it is a bad menu though. I few items that I didn't like. We made reservations for two, and we were sat in a position where I was on the beach seat half of which was backed up to a pole, which was very uncomfortable. The table next to us was available and we were able to move. That spot in particular was uncomfortable and I wouldn't recommend seating people there. The tables for two are really small also. Too small in my opinion. We didn't order a lot and we ran out of room really fast. It's a place I'd try again, I get the impression that they're still working out the kinks. This was our first time visiting this restaurant , My husband surprised me with a dinner date. The waitress which was assigned to our table seemed very nervous , confused and not attentive at all , she was attending too many tables at once. Didn't introduce herself , or welcome us to the restaurant or go over the menu or specials if any. We started out with drinks I ordered a Coke and my husband ordered a crown and Coke and it had a weird taste , the Coke was not sweet at all and although it was a bottle , the portion that was served in a glass with ice had a weird taste , my husbands drink the same there was no taste of Coke only the crown and weird taste of the soda portion. We were not sure if it was the ice cubes or soda. We addressed the situation with the waitress and she seemed baffled and confused, she then asked if I wanted anything else and I asked for recommendation of non-alcoholic beverages, I chose without the punch drink and had the same experience no sweetness and it actually had a seltzer taste. Drinks 3/10, appetizers ( crab deviled eggs and crispy calamari ) 10/10, the sauce for the calamari was delicious. Entree 10/10 my husband had Skirt steak with twice baked potato's and I had ribeye with garlic fries. To end the nice we had the cheesecake which was actually great. Also a young lady came to our table to apologize for the service and issues with the drinks which was very nice of her , the ambiance was 10/10. The appetizer's were good (lamb, bacon wrapped dates...) but my entree (steak) came out cold as well as the rest of my parties food. We were seated at the bar and I had four female friends with me. The bartender was very attentive to them but my experience was lacking (waiting on refills, food). We asked for a manager by name because she came to our table a week prior and we had a great conversation. He told us that she was gone for the day. We told him that she was right there, we could see her in the kitchen. She greeted us earlier upon our arrival and made sure our pitcher of sangria was remade after we told her that it was very different from the one we had on our last visit. read more

Hubby and I checked out this spot on our recent date night. The vibes are 10/10. A beautiful designed space perfect for date night, girls night or special occasion. We passed by this place and the atmosphere looked great. Made a reservation for a Saturday evening, date night. Ran late so called to let them know. The greeting and seating was pleasant. We ordered food and drink, was told that the food was going to be delayed. 15 min later we still waiting on the alcohol. The food finally came out. I picked up my napkin, out popped out a slice of steak, I ordered chicken. I was disgusted and my mood changed. Barely ate my food. The spinach side was tasty. Came here for Restaurant Week because it was way less expensive. We sat at the bar so I didn't get to see much of the restaurant but the bar was a good size. Very clean inside and bright. Cool vibe. The bartender was very nice. And also busy. She was not only making drinks for us but also for restaurant guests. You will pay a lot for a cocktail. We started with the Crab Deviled Eggs and the Salted Honey Herb Rolls. The eggs were good but the real star were those rolls. OMG fire!!!! I would go back for just those. It came with 5 rolls in a mini cast iron pan. Flaky salt on top....perfection! We both ordered the skirt steak which came with fries and salad. And we both got ice cream for dessert. They recommended medium rare for the steak....it was more rare but it was good. The fries were delicious and the salad was a nice spring mix with a hint of dressing. I ate every last bite!!! I ordered the coconut ice cream and it was so good! The standouts were the rolls and ice cream for me. The service was good.....new silverware for the main. Very 1st class. I definitely recommend checking them out....maybe for HH. They are pricy. Make sure you are aware of the tipping policy after 4pm. The only reason why I wouldn't go back is money. Even HH is pricy. But you get what you pay for and I am glad I experienced this new restaurant for restaurant week. read more

I had a reservation for lunch prior to the potential winter storm. Since the roads were clear today my husband & l had a lunch date. When we got there we were the only guest. Halfway through our meal other guest started to arrive. We got the restaurant week special and also tried the crab deviled eggs and lamb skewers. The service was great!! Our server brought out plates and silverware for the appetizers then replaced them before our entrees came. The deviled eggs were good. I thought the crab would be on top, but was pleasantly surprised to find limp crab meat underneath the egg mixture. It also had a slight kick to it which I enjoyed. The lamb skewers were so yummy!! My husband loves lamb so he was very pleased. They were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. My husband got the chicken and I got the skirt steak. You definitely get your moneys worth. My husband had a half chicken which was juicy and the steak was cooked well and a nice size. I loved the fries & aioli!! The salad was very good too, had a light lemon type vinaigrette on it. I tried the coffee cream which had a distinct coffee taste which I enjoyed. Definitely a great spot for date night or ladies night. Can't wait to come back at nighttime to see the ambiance with the lighting and try more yummy food options!! read more

3 main complaints. 1) The service was bad -- waitress ignored us and drinks served after main courses arrived. 2). The steaks were *drenched* in butter so very moist but it was too much butter and certainly not healthy. 3). More annoying that all of that was the mandatory $4 "platform fee" to pay the bill via the QR code that they supplied. No paper bill just a QR code, fine but then you charge me $4 to pay the bill!?!! The biggest disappointment was that I brought a cake for my dad's birthday and they told us if we cut the cake, they would charge us $3.50 per person.
