Now I did arrive on a Monday Afternoon, place was empty and very quiet. It's pretty much set up as a bar with tables around it. The bar is the focal point. But they do have plenty of seats and tables. They have outside seating but it's right at the mall entrance. I don't see that being a pleasant way to eat with people walking past you all day. Now the food... During lunchtime they have 2 options for portions: lunch or dinner size. We got the dinner size. HUGE PORTION. And the food was very good. I was pleasantly surprised. My single malt scotch was priced cheaper than any place I've been to this week. We got the popcorn chicken. Fresh Cut breasts meat. It comes in a popcorn box, cool presentation. They were tender and good. Next up was the fish and chips. 6 pieces of fish and a mountain of fries. Very good as well. Not very bready with lots of fish. Then came the fried chicken dinner. Mercy.... 2 huge chicken breasts, a mound of mashed potatoes, and vegetables. The chicken was seasoned well and fork tender. The picture I posted gives the portion sizes no justice. We struggled to get seating at any of the restaurants near the beach for dinner, but this place was roomy and comfortable to sit down for dinner. The food looked really good and hot when it came out. I don't normally do a waffle, but that waffle was really good. I only put butter on it as I didn't want to add even more sugar to the meal already. The bacon was nice and crispy as requested. I wasn't sure how the Cheese Grits would be, but they were surprisingly good. The last item I had was the Fried Biscuit. Wow that one was a highlight for sure, though I won't do that one too often. My mom said the entree she had was good too and there were no issues. Overall, this was a good visit. I would give it 3.5 stars but rounding to 4 in this case due to the great food. The biggest negatives were the noise levels, as it was hard to talk to anyone there, and they automatically add an 18% tip for all transactions, regardless of party size. Given the circumstances, the service was good too. I will come back in the future, but maybe not on a weekend or around a holiday where it gets busier than normal. This place is worth checking out if you are in the area and looking for something to choose from to eat at.

For my dining pleasure, I tried something new and went with the Bennie & the Grits. This dish piqued my interest because I never heard of grits cakes in the four decades of living on this planet. For about 20 bucks, the dish included three fried grit cakes with ground sausage, grilled shrimp, more sausage, two poached eggs and a side. Although the serving size was HUGE, I was not a bit fan of the dish. Note, I didn't think the dish was prepared badly, I just didn't get the concept of the fried grits (this from a grits lover); however, everything else with the dish was pretty good. If you are a Bloody Mary lover, you might some interesting varieties of Bloody Marys here. Additionally, I really appreciated that The Egg Bistro ranks the Bloody Marys based on spice level. Overall, I definitely would not mind visiting this location during a future trip to Va Beach. We tried: -Veggie and cheese omelette with breakfast potatoes and toast -Corned beef skillet with potatoes and egg -Egg white omelette with tomato and spinach and biscuit The biscuits were extremely good and fresh and soft and breakfast potatoes were really, really good.
