Clams topped with bacon and garlic. And drawn butter.

This is a homey dive in every sense of the word. You have a bar in the back with a good supply of locals enjoying each other's stories and tv's. Up front is the dining room, very dated, but that was ok, it all fit together. I ordered something I had not had before...clams with garlic and bacon. It was really good and gone too fast. The drawn butter was petfect with this dish. My only comment was to wish the bacon was crisper. The service was excellent, just the right amount.

The last time I gave The Beach Pub a review it was not a good one. As we walked out because we never got helped. We decided after some time to give them another try. The difference was night and day. 180 degree turnaround. Greeted as soon as we walked in the door. We sat down menus were right there. In just minutes a waitress was there to get our drink order and asked if we questions and explained the specials for the afternoon. This was a 100% better experience.

After a full day, my wife and I decided on visiting the beach pub for our dinner. With only a few days to spend in the area I am so happy we chose this place over others. We sat at the bar while having college games on the TVs. It brought back so many wonderful memories. Our bartender made a wonderful Manhattan for me and a cocktail for my wife. For our main courses, my wife decided on the lasagna special while I ordered their shrimp and crab dinner. Our meals came out relatively quickly. My shrimp and crab was absolutely delicious with wonderful hush puppies! My wife enjoyed a lasagna as well it was huge and delicious. If you're in the area, you will not be disappointed, trying the beach pub!

My family and I stopped by the Beach Pub while we were visiting VAB because my grandfather helped open the restaurant years ago before he passed. Since the last time we had visited (~20 years ago), quite a bit has changed and we were a little disappointed. There is quite a bit of coast guard/surf and rescue/military memorabilia inside the restaurant that pays tribute to my family's heritage which is a nice touch. However, we sat outside in a large booth that rocked back and forth, and the environment was pretty loud due to road/air noise. My family ordered the Barco Clams to share (clams, garlic, bacon, but they were just meh), and my dad and I split the 1 lb of shrimp which was the daily special - there is no way I would've been able to eat all of the shrimp by myself (huge portion!). We added a side of potato salad to our meal which was a little smaller than what I was expecting, so the side was hard to share. Most of the food tasted great. Our waitress was lovely and really tried her best to be attentive during the evening since she told us the restaurant was pretty busy inside. We were in no rush to leave, but if you needed to get in and out quickly, you may have had some trouble with the service.

We decided to visit here based on the recommendation of a local who said the She crab soup is delicious. The restaurant has been around since the 70s and by the looks of it the place hasn't been updated since then. We were seated as soon as we arrived and Theresa was our server - she was great! We loved the crab dip and the house made chips! The she crab soup - well ... that really wasn't love - it lacked flavor I would say using a bit of sherry in it would change it completely and make it delicious! The flounder was a HUGE portion and included the skin under the breading - ok, but not fabulous since I didn't love the skin on it and it was pretty greasy. Loved the variety of sides - including broccoli salad and beets! I didn't picture the crab in butter that was ordered as it was pretty disappointing. It is a nice idea, but there was a bunch of cartilage in it so it was crunchy - would not recommend (note- when using canned crab meat it really needs to be sifted through before serving). I think this is a nice local stop that has a big menu and loads of potential. I have a feeling maybe we just picked some of the wrong things because the things we enjoyed were delicious.

Brilliant idea. The hostess took our name and phone number and we received a txt when our table was ready. The hostess was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was amazing. They had a great seating area for patrons who were waiting for a table. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Since it was our first time at this restaurant we were unsure about what we should order. She gave great suggestions. We ordered the fried oysters, oyster burger, and shrimp with vegetables and eggs. We also ordered a pineapple crush and the localizer. The food was very flavorful and fresh. The oyster burger was very unique it had a fried oyster on top of the patty which was great. It was cooked to perfection and very juicy. The fried oysters were great as well. They came with Pita bread and spinach dip to make an oyster sandwich. Amazing!!! The drinks were on point as well. They weren't too strong but they weren't weak either. I recommend trying out this restaurant if you are in the area. It is totally worth the wait.

HISTORY ON AN ONION ROLL | THE EYE OPENER CONTINUES TO TEMPT TASTEBUDS, DECADES LATER…read more By Patrick Evans-Hylton For decades, the Belvedere Hotel was more than a place to stay. It was a familiar presence along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, a backdrop for everyday rituals and seaside routines. Tucked inside was the Belvedere Coffee Shop & Diner, a true neighborhood constant since opening in 1969. It was where mornings began with hot coffee and friendly nods, where breakfast and lunch meant dependable comfort, and where the pace of the beach slowed just enough to savor it. When the Belvedere was torn down, it felt like losing a quietly important piece of the Oceanfront's collective memory. That sense of memory carries forward at Belvedere South inside the tony Moxy Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel. The new space honors the past without freezing it in time. Bright blue walls set against crisp white instantly recall the diner's cheerful spirit. Large windows allow light to flood the space. Cushy banquettes are a comfortable welcome, inviting you to settle in and linger. The menu stays true to its roots with classic breakfast and lunch dishes that feel familiar and reassuring. Anchoring it all is the legendary Eye Opener sandwich, returned to its rightful place as both signature and symbol. In this new setting, the Belvedere legacy lives on, refreshed but recognizable, a reminder that some traditions deserve to be carried forward with care and confidence. The Eye Opener remains the heart of the menu, and one bite explains its legend. A perfectly fried egg anchors the sandwich, its yolk just rich enough to soften the layers beneath. From a choice of bacon, sausage, or ham, we chose the latter; each brings its own salty, savory character. Melted cheese binds everything together, draping the egg and meat in comfort. All of it is tucked into a lightly toasted onion roll that adds a gentle sweetness and just enough bite to stand up to the fillings. Chef Ray Ray Labuen, who wore the tall toque at the former Belvedere, is closely tied to the Eye Opener its careful steward. Then there are the tomatoes, the detail that elevates the whole affair. Thick slices are grilled, seasoned lightly, and finished with a generous snowfall of parmesan cheese. As they cook, the tomatoes soften and turn luscious while the cheese melts and lightly browns, creating a savory crust that clings to the fruit. They are warm, juicy, and deeply flavorful, adding richness and balance to the sandwich. It is indulgent without being heavy, familiar yet special, and exactly the kind of dish that earns its name at the Oceanfront. We also enjoyed rich, creamy grits and a damn fine cup of coffee. Service was exceptional. - I've been covering the cuisine scene in Coastal Virginia and beyond for 30-plus years, and have dined out at thousands and thousands times. I base my scores on the SAVORY system, which attributes values to six distinct attributes: Service, Ambiance, Value, Offerings, Repeatability, and Sensory Experience. That translates to 1 star = 59 or below ; 2 stars = 60 - 69 ; 3 stars = 70-79 ; 4 stars = 80-89 ; and 5 stars = 90 or above. Based on that, this restaurant receives my 5 star rating. This is based on a visit on Jan. 7, 2026 - I'm a Johnson & Wales-trained chef reporting on food and foodways in print (magazines, The Virginian-Pilot), television (morning shows, Food Network, WTKR TV-3), radio (PBS, AM 790 WNIS), and more.
