Sixty Three Clinton was a fabulous fine dining experience. Their tasting menu is southwestern inspired, given the two owners grew up there. The stand-outs were the cactus-shaped jalapeno cornbread with an assortment of butter, and the choco taco dessert that wonderfully held its structure despite being stuffed with ice cream. Because they give you a bread basket and a good amount of protein, we didn't leave hungry. By the time the tasting wrapped up, we felt perfectly satiated. This was truly great - I would recommend. Lacking other plans, I wanted to find a tasty meal to treat myself for Christmas. Sixty Three Clinton fit the bill. On entry you will immediately see the bar to your left, seats at a bar overlooking the open kitchen, and a room with tables for larger parties. Dining solo, I was sat at the bar. The bartender explained the menu, along with the supplements. I opted for the langoustine with the uni rice and started inspecting the cocktail menu. There were many tempting options, but I settled on the Oolong Island Iced Tea (a play on a Long Island Iced Tea but with Oolong tea, as you might imagine). The first course, to my understanding, is permanent: a breakfast taco with a ramen egg and salmon roe. Delightful. The following was a scallop served with corn masa, which reminded me of shrimp and grits (in a good way). It was at this point I was struck with regret for not ordering the caviar hand roll, which is prepared tableside. My fellow diners seemed to enjoy it immensely. There is no beverage pairing offered with the tasting menu, but the bartender was more than willing to recommend wine. His choices were lovely. A Cabernet Sauvignon with the soft scrambled egg and uni rice, and then a delightful red with the tri tip. Each course was well thought out and delightful. Over the course of the meal, though I had come alone, I found myself chatting with the staff and my fellow diners. The staff were quite friendly and very knowledgeable, and the bar set up lent itself to chatting with your fellow diners. Overall a pleasant set up. With dessert I opted for a vermouth and soda, something you'll rarely see but was much appreciated as a light and refreshing balance to the incredibly rich dessert. The "palate cleanser" was simply incredible, with caviar and goats milk ice cream pairing with the smoked champagne gel and honeycomb beautifully. The tiramisu was a fantastic finish. My bill was quite steep, but overall I was unbothered: the meal had been fantastic and each course tasty. If you've got an occasion or no occasion at all, Sixty Three Clinton is a lovely choice that has well-deserved its Michelin star. read more

Our favorite was the breakfast taco, which is the most consistent thing on their menu. The aji verde sauce ties the egg and hash brown together and it was such a great start to the meal. It was warm and I wish I had more! The caviar hand roll is worth to get as someone who does not need caviar and can live without it. I shared this with my friend so we split the $55 cost. They packed it in and it was so warm with the crispy seaweed and super flavorful rice. We also loved their focaccia bread with butter, one of the best breads I've had in NYC. The dishes look small but man do they fill you up. Even though one piece of tortellini may seem ridiculous, that one piece was so stuffed, I got super full. Went here to celebrate an anniversary and it didnt disappoint! We sat at the front area near the bar and it was a super cute interior. I thought it was a great place for a fancy dinner date! The courses were all amazing. We decided to also to the caviar roll and it was amazing. The waiter made sure to give us a huge portion of it. My favorite is consistent with many other reviewers as the breakfast taco. The restaurant was conducting a celebration for their anniversary and served caviar with the taco on the day! However, all the courses were very strong. The restaurant is also efficient over the course planning, so there is a good pace between courses; we were able to complete the 7 courses within about 90 minutes. Went here for a birthday dinner a little while ago. Definitely a fun atmosphere it fits in very well with the vibe of the lower east side. Amplifying an upscale casual atmosphere. The service was very very friendly and attentive, honestly this is the reason I knocked off a star. I felt like I was almost being watched by how often a server came around. It felt as though our meal was too planned and consistently interrupted. I understand this is a preset menu and that requires timeliness and a schedule moreso than a a la carte meal, however, they could have followed suit with the casual atmosphere and taken it down a notch. The food was very good; however, some dishes felt like they were a little too creative. The add-on hand-roll was delicious. Overall, a tasty meal with pretty good service. I wasn't blown away but it was tasty. There was only dish i didn't like, which was the aguachile. Perhaps a bit too experimental. I went with a vegetarian and they were able to accommodate, but i do wish they could try a little harder for vegetarians instead of just taking the meat part out and not subbing anything in. My friend and I were looking to return to a nearby restaurant. They were booked, so I looked on Yelp for any tasting menus for a nice holiday dinner. Found Sixty Three Clinton and thought it looked perfect. When we sat down at 7 on a Thursday, we had a Déjà vu moment when we saw the table that we sat at three years ago. Once I got over the initial disappointment that we had returned to a restaurant we had forgotten about, we went on to have an amazing time! Last time we had been there, we noted the small portions and that is still the case. That said, we both felt that the already solid quality from three years ago had been taken to an even higher level. Each of the 7 courses featured fantastic textures and flavors. Favorites for me were the egg course, scallop, rice dish, and the goat milk ice cream. Frankly, the goat milk ice cream is one of the better dishes I've had recently. Thank you to social media for introducing me to this spot because it was one of the best meals I've ever had and I am not being hyperbolic at all. The bites were each unique flavor bombs that were innovative and balanced, tested my taste buds with spicy and salty flavors, and I loved each and every one! The uni add on to the breakfast taco was a MUST, the tortilla base was even high quality! The bluefin agua chile had a creme fraiche base that gave an incredible experience with the spicy chili granita at the top, what an adventure of a dish. LOVE! I normally hate squid ink pasta but the texture of the pasta and the super briny clam flavor worked perfectly together. The asparagus in the beurre blanc was refined and such a great palate cleanser of sorts after the saltier pasta. Then came out the focaccia which was crispy yet soft and the butter was so good! Paired my final dishes with a delicious pomegranate star anise mocktail which was one of the best mocktails I've ever had. The pork short rib was so flavorful and worked great with the white strawberry flavor. The blueberry sorbet was AWESOME, refreshing and just the right balance of tart and sweet. Finally, the coconut cake was such a comforting finish with a little zest from the lime. Cannot say enough good things about this meal! Also, the staff is INCREDIBLE! The legs of the stools need to be lower. The breakfast taco is ok. I added the Hokkaido uni for $22. Manila clam rice was good. I added langoustine for $44. Then the bartender hyped up the asparagus dish; that one was all right but not all that. I wasn't thrilled with the establishment's choice of music. And the workaround for my request to have less sugar was to give me mango slices with Tajín instead of the standard coconut cake. Underwhelming. read more

The first Michelin starred restaurant I've been to and it definitely was excellent and worth it. There were so many items that had such excellent taste and the construction of the tasting menu itself was also very good. Unfortunately my biggest dislike was the starting menu item, the scallop on what I guess to be the base/core of Kohlrabi (basically the firm white part of a lettuce head). It was crunchy and with nuanced sourness (the dashi?). The scallop sat on top which was of excellent quality, non-fishy, rubbery etc. a perfect scallop, tender and melty in your mouth. The broth though was strongly sour as well, though a nuanced sour, hinted at bitterness and light saltiness. Maybe I ate it wrong and that's why I didn't like it.. I ate the scallop piece first, waited 10 seconds, then I had the broth by itself. I feel like the kohlrabi bottom of the scallop should have been sitting in the broth and then you're supposed to take it out eat it, and finish off with the rest of the broth. My bite of the kohlrabi+scallop tasted off because the texture was so crunchy and the taste was lacking (kohlrabi water taste, scallop no-taste, light guac sauce). After the first dish though every got better and better all the way to excellent. Actually too excellent. At a certain point the food was too good. Too rich at some points and too tasty. Like a taste overload. The next dish of the seasonal taco was good. It was savory and sweet but not too sweet. This dish was like a transition flavor item between the scallop and kohlrabi to the more savory dishes to come. That combination and transition flavor was used well throughout the menu. After that came the breads and butters/spreads. At this point I was suggested to portion out the breads to eat through the next some sets of dishes. This was also where the mind-blown part of the meal starts. An extra buttery sourdough tortilla alongside a jalapeno flavored cornbread in the shape of a cactus. Both different, and decently good. 1. A koji butter (japanese fungus), 2. jalapeno whipped tallow, and 3. a middle eastern spicy dip made of peppers etc (Muhammara). The koji butter and whipped tallow were CRAZY GOOD. Especially the koji butter. Strong flavor, sharp, deep, but also smooth. I thought the maple butter from Jacob's Pickles (local solid American food restaurant) was the best butter I've ever had until this koji butter. I only ended up eating and using a third of the approximately 3 tablespoons or so of the koji butter. It was just soooo good, that you shouldn't eat so much of a good thing. I feel like you need contrast with something with not so much flavor and taste when you have something as good as the koji butter and the whipped jalapeno tallow. I also only ate a third of my whipped tallow. I wish I could have gave the throwaway left over to other people to experience in this life, lol. At this point I thought the Muhammara was good, but not great. As the other dishes came out and I tried them with the Muhammara I realized the Muhammara was also excellent. Exquisitely excellent. After that was the chicken pate with mole, then a beef trio of 1. tenderloin with beans and avocado sauce?, 2. chili con carne (shaped like a brownie, ended up being too rich for me and I was stuffed at this point I couldn't finish it 3. tender meat slider on a chinese sesame ball like bitesized bun. There were also spiral pastas fried or cooked somehow to be mouth disintegrating that went with the chili con carne. It was texture perfection. The Muhammara showed up here when combined with the pate, the chile con carne, and the tenderloin. It was so much richness and flavor in one place. Almost too much, MAYBE too much. (obviously depends on ones palette) Gotta remember that all these dishes were eaten with the tortilla and cactus corn bread from before.. Considering #1 and #2 were eaten in combination with the breads and spreads from before and also their own sauces/beans, things ended up incredible. The only forgettable one was the bitesized meat slider which I ate without the sauces. The meat was very tender, but the crispy texture of the chinese style sesame bun and oilyness didn't work for me. The deserts were also very good and a savory-sweet transition dish also existed here to a final choco taco with a cold ice cream center? The venue was nice. The ambiance was a dark cellar style with intimate lighting between every few kitchen counter spots. I wish there was about twice the amount of lighting, because it was hard to read my menu card. There were also tables but I was not paying attention to seating and table arrangements. Service-wise the waiter, Christine, and team did a great job filling up my water and getting drinks and removing plates, adding silverware, etc. Personable and generally unpretentious. No complaints. Ambiance: This restaurant is really nice. It's chic fancy. You feel like you're dining in a sophisticated understated elegant restaurant. The chairs are big and comfortable and easy to sit in for a 2-3 hour seated meal. The tables are a good size so the food sits comfortably without feeling cluttered. They made her gluten free tortilla and bread and she very much appreciated it. I really enjoyed the taco. The hash brown and salsa verde was a great complement with the tortilla. The second course was a really nice salad - I loved the vinaigrette. One of my favorite dishes was the arroz mariscos. They added mushrooms for me and used a vegetable broth, it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The mushroom was great addition. I liked the jumbo asparagus, I do feel some pieces were big even for a jumbo size. The sauces that it came with were the perfectly complement to the asparagus. I also LOVED the sourdough bread. It was soft with a crispy top. The salt on top was very strong in flavor. The bread goes well with the sauces of the asparagus dish. The final savory dish was the pork short rib and for me it was a grilled bok choy. It came with a really well seasoned cabbage side. I really liked the cabbage but unfortunately the bok choy was underwhelming as the final savory item. For sweet dishes, we had the sicilian granita. It was really refreshing and I liked the different textures. The carrot cake was probably one of the highlights of the meal. It was probably one of the best carrot cakes we've had. Service: Service was amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful and happy to answer all of our questions. They were quick to fill our water glasses and check on drink refills. They knew exactly when it was time for the next dish and when to come and clear our table between dishes. I want to give a special thanks to our hostess. She had helped us with making changes to our reservation and kept her word, I really appreciated how easy she made things for us. Price: We did the 7 course meal and it cost about $112 per person. Great experience here, food was phenomenal and the pacing of the entrees was top tier. Service was excellent for the most part. The place is beautiful, lighting is great, music at the perfect volume. The menu varied minimally from what they had on the website but it didn't bother me at all. Great balance of light, savory, and sweet courses. Presentation spot on all around. Dish highlights were the breakfast taco and duck leg cassoulet, and the Hokkaido milk bread. Portions are generous but not excessive and we were full but not stuffed by the end of the evening. Great attention to boyfriend's shellfish allergy. Downsides: there were 3 add ons and one supplement on a 7 course menu. Adding all would more than double the cost of the menu. None were pushed excessively, but we were definitely upsold. The only downside of the evening was the oddity around the wines. My partner and I asked to share a wine pairing and the reaction was confusion bordering on hostility. The server seemed to not understand what we were asking despite being a normal request. To get the most bang for your buck, get a caviar handroll to share and you won't exceed 150 per person before tax. The ambiance is soothing and earthy with a modern touch. Looking at the wine bottles that adorn the wall makes you feel like you're admiring a wine connoisseur's collection. The service is friendly but can sometimes come off as robotic. Certain waiters/waitresses will come by to place dishes on your table and bounce while others are more inclined to engage in mini conversations. The pacing is great between dishes and provided us time to talk between courses. It just sucks if you're tired from a day's work and you're going in for a 9pm seating (in our case). Menu highlights include the caviar handroll (simple but so good!), the butternut squash pasta (creamy), and the goat cheese ice cream with caviar. Certain plates, such as the dark rye bread, are great but are overshadowed by the stronger flavors of other courses. I was able to fully appreciate the bread when I brought it home to have it for breakfast the next day. The lamb roulade was also really good but my appreciation for it was diminished by the fact that I had lamb the day prior. The one dish that was strange was the banana sweet potato dessert that featured a strange lukewarm espuma of sweet potato and a caramelized banana in a custardy sauce. But the texture of the foam bothered me and I wasn't a big fan of the combination of flavors either. If you can splurge, sixty three clinton also has some great glasses of wine and my partner and I enjoyed two different glasses of white. They change their menu seasonally which makes it a great place to enjoy different seasonal pix fixes for a decent price with your wine. read more

If you're looking for an incredible, down-to-earth fine-dining experience at a reasonable price look no further than Sixty Three Clinton. Although they've raised their prices a few times over the past few years (most recently $20 to $112 for a 7 course meal) the taste-to-value proposition is still quite strong. Usually, when doing a multi-course tasting menu there are a few stars and a few duds that characterize the meal; not the case here. Their classics continue to shine, such as their breakfast tacos and caviar handroll (+$55) but their more seasonal dishes, such as the grilled sungolds and red crab rice shine on their own as well. The food is a nice mix of Japanese inspired dishes and our favorites were the grilled sungolds and breakfast taco. You can likely do without the additional uni pairing for the breakfast taco but I'd recommend getting the caviar handroll at least once for the experience. Service is also friendly and attentive without being too stuffy or overbearing. You can expect all the classics in fine dining, from the folded napkins when you use the bathroom (which has a bidet!) to the attention to detail (e.g. celebrating an anniversary or birthday). They even brought out a unique punch/juice drink to start us off as they were experimenting with something new. All in all, I think Sixty Three Clinton is a fantastic value proposition and a delicious meal to boot. Whenever I'm about to eat at a Michelin-rated restaurant, I always assume that I'll need a burger afterwards. You will NOT need that here! The tastings have some of the best textured and nuanced flavor that I've ever had and the presentation is beyond amazing. The staff is more than happy to explain to my dumbass self what a Frisée salad is without making me feel like a dumbass and they are genuinely excited to teach you about the different aspects of the meal. And don't get me started on the co-owner/head chef! The rest of menu changes seasonally, and as an optional add on you can get a caviar handroll for $55. Came here for the first time and it exceeded my expectations! I loved this meal, from beginning to end, every single course was amazing! First off nice and inviting atmosphere, wait staff was on point the entire meal and happy to explain each course. They are clearly proud of their menu. Started off with some really good cocktails, tried the oolong island iced tea and the gin based cocktail and both were solid drinks. We got the tasting menu as is except added their signature hand roll. First course was the breakfast tacos and what a start, wonderful, full of flavor and textures. Second came the handroll, what a way to really highlight the caviar. It's a little pricey but I think it was worth it. Third course was bluefin aguachile, this dish was so weird in the best possible way as well as beautiful. Fourth was jumbo asparagus and focaccia and dishes were amazing. The bread was soft and chewy, the asparagus was packed with flavor. Fifth was cavatalli neri, it was a flavor burst of deliciousness. Last savory dish was the pork short rib, it tasted like a French frisée salad but pimped out. For the 2 desserts started with the Blueberry sorbet, the mix of textures and flavors was so good as well as this might be one the most beautiful desserts. Second was coconut cake which tasted like a sophisticated doughnut with gooey coconut and tart lemon curd topping. Meanwhile our server recommended a very nice wine pairing and then also recommended some really great after dinner aperitifs. I'm having trouble writing this review as, while the meal was good, nothing really stood out and there wasn't anything that was really super memorable to write home about. You can tell it's a Michelin-starred restaurant when they fold your napkins after you've gone to the (very fancy) bathroom, but otherwise it wasn't my favorite tasting menu. Not totally sure it was worth the price. What was most troublesome about the meal, though, was how many very pricey add ons there are. The breakfast taco came first. And this was nice. Super warm taco, set the tone for a nice meal. The mackerel next was aesthetically pleasing but I don't even really remember how it tasted. The pasta was divine. However, the ridiculously priced langoustine add on really should have been standard. The whole time I was eating the pasta I was thinking how much it could use some shellfish. But I wasn't willing to pay the (I think) $32 for this. The cabbage dish was technically the most interesting and came around the time of the really delicious bread (wish we had gotten a skosh more butter). The pork loin at the end was really kind of a meh finish to the meal and left me wishing there was just ONE more main course type dish. When the parfait came I didn't even realize it was the parfait- I thought it was a complementary palate cleanser and was a bit too tart for me. Not a huge fan of Guinness cake but this was done nicely. Overall, service was quite nice and they were super friendly. But the entire time I just watched the caviar hand roll being dished out to people and felt like they were really banking on people doing these terribly pricy add-ons, which was a bit off-putting for me. read more

My boyfriend booked this place for our first official dinner as a couple. I would've given it a five star review since everything was super nice until a little episode happened as we were leaving. My boyfriend did make note that it was a special occasion and they even congratulated when we checked in (which we thought was very nice). But there were two parties next to us, that received little cards (like thank you/congratulations cards) but we never got one (one of the parties were two guys that were friends). We were disappointed in this treatment. But the food and atmosphere was great. The breakfast taco? I totally get why everyone recommends it--it's a must-try! We also added the uni and the flavors were on point, and the combination of ingredients made it the perfect start to dinner. The service was great too--friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. If you're in the Lower East Side and craving great food, definitely add 63 Clinton to your list! Service was excellent from checking in through the end of dinner. Food was good, we added the caviar hand roll, but one major call out .. the corn & tomato gazpacho parfait (pictured) was unbearable.. it felt like an obstacle to get through. Pretty disappointing and the only outlier of the menu. Luckily the cornbread cheddar biscuit followed after, and that was a slam dunk :) Almost perfect! We had an exceptional meal at Sixty Three Clinton! This Michelin-starred restaurant in the Lower East Side offers a dinner consisting of seven courses for $112. I was able to snag a reservation on Resy without too much difficulty, not like some places where you fruitlessly search for any opening two years in advance right at midnight. I chose the dining room, but there's an option to sit by the kitchen which sounds pretty cool.  The atmosphere was chic but welcoming and non-snobby, with servers who seemed like individuals I could be friends with in real life. When describing each course, they tell you where the ingredients were sourced, many very local. And every dish was presented quite nicely too, really photogenic. Here was the menu at the time of my visit. It was impossible to decide which one was my favorite!  1) Breakfast taco--This is their signature dish and is always on the menu, we were told. I recommend adding the Hokkaido uni ($22)!  2) Grilled sungolds 3) Red crab rice 4) Tarte flambée 5) Milk-fed veal striploin 6) Fruit salad--I thought maybe the desserts weren't quite as wowing as the savory dishes but they were still lovely.  7) Cruller *Caviar hand roll ($55)--We didn't order this extra but it appeared to be pretty popular, and they roll it right at your table.  Sixty Three Clinton is perfect for celebrating special events. They even give you a signed card by the team which is a thoughtful touch! Judging by all the cards I observed, I'm pretty sure 99% of us were there for an important occasion. I came here for my birthday and had the absolute BEST experience! From the second I walked through the door, I knew it was going to be a special night. Every single person working there was so friendly and really rounded out the experience. Since they knew it was my birthday thanks to Resy, they all signed a happy birthday card, and included a candle on my red bean baked Alaska! Now onto the food: every single dish was a perfectly balanced experience. My one recommendation - don't skip the caviar hand roll. It was so good and I am still thinking about it weeks later! The shrimp toast also had no business being as tasty as it was! The fun thing about this place is that the menu is regularly changing and I cannot wait to see what the menu is next time I visit. Great restaurant, delicious food, amazing service and hospitality. Everyone we interacted with was super personable and fun. More laidback atmosphere, tasty menu. Standouts from the current menu (12/2023) were the - soft scrambled eggs with chicken liver mousse, chicken skin furikake, with a supplement of white alba truffles - so good. The budae jjigae was also delicious, perfectly cooked pork, good heat and flavor, tasty rice on the side. Loved Sixty Three Clinton! Heard a lot of great things about this place from friends and finally got the chance to try. Booked about 2 weeks prior and only 1 time slot was available for multiple days, so make sure you book as early as possible! The place was a little difficult to find like many Michelin star restaurants but we managed to find it ok. Food was amazing, service was great! I can really see why this place deserves a Michelin star. We were attended very attentively from the moment we walked in, there was not a single moment when I felt like I couldn't find someone to fill my water or answer my questions. And like all upscale restaurants, they had very thorough explanations for the food. The food was so delicious, and very worth it for the price in terms of fancy restaurants, $112/person. Each course had an amazing mixture of flavors and honestly decent amount as well. My favorites were the scallop, perfectly fresh and great combination with peanuts in their sauce; followed by the lamb dish, it was so tender and really brings out the natural flavor of the lamb. Went here for an anniversary dinner and it was the perfect spot! The staff were super nice and even offered us a complimentary cocktail and a signed card for our anniversary. We went with the standard 7 course tasting menu without add ons. It was the perfect amount of food for me without ending with feeling too full. My favorite courses were the breakfast taco and the grilled lobster mushroom. The lobster mushroom was meaty, the sauce was smokey and it was served with delicious potatoes. I don't feel like I missed out on the caviar hand roll because one of the dessert courses comes with caviar. The service was amazing and very attentive, I just wish that the pacing between courses was a little better because we were waiting for quite a while between courses and the meal took around 2 hours. But maybe this is a feature not a bug if you have a lot of talking / catching up to do. Random bonus is that their bathroom is one of the nicest restaurant bathrooms I've ever been to! I would highly recommend for an anniversary dinner and think the tasting menu is worth the price! read more
