My wife and I stopped in for a light tapas snack (merienda). It was a great surprise on how the service, abiance, and food was. We were seated promptly on a Sunday afternoon after a SOHO shopping date. Pan con tomate was airy and crispy with a beautiful drizzles oil. The iberico was lovely. Not overly salty. And the arroz negra had a soft texture and an abundance of squid. We cant wait to return! read more

The food is tapas style and it was good. My favorite dish had to be the scallops and I would suggest all seafood lovers to give it a try. The octopus was cooked well and it was soft once it hit my mouth. The sangria was absolutely delicious and I'm so happy I got a pitcher. I come back just for the sangria!! The service was fine. It took a bit for them to come over to greet us and take our orders, but after that the food just kept coming out one by one and we were able to eat until our next dish was ready. The ambiance of the place is beautiful, and it's pretty quiet so I was able to hear the person I'm with. I come back again another time. read more

I'd say this is one of my fav tapa bars. Everything I've tried was very good! It's on a higher end but very much worth the price tag. Skip touristy Little Spain and come here instead:) I'm a big fan of seafood and they do it well here. Seafood rice dishes are exceptional (I enjoyed black squid rice). Love the octopus bites - very tender. They also do grilled seafood à la plancha. Beautiful presentation and perfect to take someone on a date here. Also they have an extensive wine list! Overall one of the best Spanish restaurants in nyc. read more

Finally a solid Spanish tapas place, that transformed me back to Spain. Food is solid, with the arroz negro being a stand out dish- the best rice dish I've ever had Here is the rating of what we ordered: 1. ***Arroz Negro: hands down my fave of the night, the best rice dish I've ever had. Flavorful, perfect texture, even better than anything I've had in Barcelona 2. Lamb chops 9.5: very flavorful 3. Croquets (9/10): creamy, flavorful 4. Octopus (8.5/10): flavors are subtle, texture is great . Not too heavy 5. Bacalo (salted cod): was never a huge fan of this when I went to Portugal l, but they made it very well here bursting with flavors 6. Bay scallops: great flavors, but felt a bit overcooked . Very chewy 7. Jamon Iberico: personally not a huge fan of cured meats but this is supposed to be top tier of all the cured meats Ambiance: can get quite loud and rowdy since it's also a wine bar read more

Tapas for days. Small plates, big personality. Their menu runs 30+ items deep. The Empanadillas del Día arrived hot, crispy, and deeply satisfying. Next came the Callos- a rich, soulful stew of soft tripe, chorizo, and chickpeas served with bread. Yum! The star though, was the Pulpo a Feira- the best octopus I've ever had. It was perfectly tender, beautifully seasoned, and cut just right. Drinks kept pace. I started with a bright, clean Paloma, then closed things out with the Tomino Horchata dessert cocktail- fucking delicious! Come hungry, order irresponsibly, and yes, get the octopus. NOTES / TIPS **Reserve through Google or Resy. Too easy. **Excellent service. Wheelchair accessible with nice, clean restrooms. **In Little Italy. read more

I went to Tomiño for a work event and had a really great experience. The ambience is beautiful and creates a really nice atmosphere for dinner or drinks. The food was delicious, especially the rice it was definitely my favorite part of the meal! The service was good overall, although I think it could be a little more attentive. My only complaint is the noise level. There doesn't seem to be much to absorb the sound, so if you stay for a long time, it can get a little overwhelming and hard to hear conversations. Other than that, everything was great. I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend it, especially for an event or a nice dinner in NYC. read more

Tomino is worth a visit for its nice atmosphere and array of tapas that are not the typical ones you find in the tapas bars commonly found in the States. Overall, the food is pretty well executed, but not all of it was to our taste, with one unpleasant surprise. For the two of us, we ordered the pan con tomate, croquetas with ham, mushrooms with grapes, sea scallops, and arroz negro. The portions were pretty substantial for two people, so we couldn't quite finish. The highlights for us were the croquetas and mushrooms - the croquetas were delicate yet rich, and the combination of roasted mushrooms, grapes, and cheese foam was unique and delicious. In the middle were the tomato bread and the popular arroz negro. Although the squid and rice were perfectly cooked, we found it a bit under-seasoned and flat. The sea scallops dish was not what we expected - while the presentation on the shell was cool, the baked (not seared) scallops were buried under a pretty thick layer of crispy ham and breadcrumbs which completely overwhelmed the flavor of the scallops. It was definitely not for us. While we were not drinking alcohol, the cocktails menu looked pretty fantastic, especially if you like gin cocktails. I opted for their (one) seasonal mocktail, which was pineapple, mint, and ginger beer. It was fresh and excellent. Service was good but pretty hands off. That said, they came by to stabilize our wobbly table without prompting and cleaned our table well after we were finished eating. We asked to take what was left of the mushrooms and rice home, but they put both into one to-go container. While I appreciate not creating much waste, it would have been nicer from a diner's perspective to not let two distinct dishes meld together. All in all, I think Tomino is worth a trip. Not all the flavors were quite our cup of tea, but we still had a nice evening out. read more

Tomiño has a great atmosphere with warm lighting, a lively crowd, and a space that feels welcoming without being too loud. The only downside was the service. Our server wasn't very knowledgeable about the menu and was a bit absent throughout the meal, which stood out given how polished the space feels. We ordered the Ensalada San Simón, Serrano ham croquetas, Churrasco con Chimichurri, Vieiras a la Gallega, and the fish of the day. Overall, the food was good, but not as impressive as expected. The croquetas were one of the highlights of the night: crisp on the outside, soft inside, and full of rich ham flavor. The Churrasco con Chimichurri had great flavor, especially the ribs, but there was very little meat on them, which made the dish less satisfying than it could've been. The clear favorite was the fish of the day, it was perfectly cooked, had a strong flavor, and was easily the most memorable and well-executed dish of the meal. I also tried a seasonal sour cocktail, which unfortunately didn't have much flavor and didn't add much to the experience. Tomiño has a strong atmosphere and some solid dishes, but between the uneven service and a few misses, it didn't fully meet expectations. Still, the fish of the day and the croquetas made the meal worthwhile, and with a bit more consistency, it could be a spot worth returning to. read more

Rating: 3.5 Stars My friend and I stopped by on a Wednesday night for a 8:30 PM reservation. We came around 10 minutes early but our hostess was very kind and took us to a seat with no wait. The space was a bit intimate but it was pretty. It is on the louder side though, so just a heads up. As soon as we sat down, we had our water glasses filled and menus brought over. They also brought over some complimentary bread with olive oil which was ok but cold. Service after this though became much more spotty. Though there were a lot of waiters (?) standing to the side there didn't feel to be much service throughout the meal. No one really stopped by, offered to fill our water glasses, etc. There was one time when a waiter was going around filling water glasses and skipped past our table entirely to fill the fill the table next to us. Our server specifically, was coughing a lot without covering his mouth while walking around and carrying drinks, etc throughout the meal which was just unhygenic. For food, we ended up ordering a lot of dishes to try: -GAZPACHO: Wow, this gazpacho was amazing! Perfect blend of sweet and sour with a couple of thinly sliced toasted bread on top. Definitely a must order. -TUNA TOMATO SALAD: Not sure what the name of this dish was but there were chunks of tuna, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, figs green olives and caramelized onions in a vinaigrette. My friend liked it but I was not as big of a fan of this dish. There was just a lot going on and the flavor was quite overpowering. I do have to say though, the cherry tomatoes were so good - very fresh and sweet. -CROQUETAS: The croquettes were very creamy and tasty. We got half ham and half mushrooms. I enjoyed them. -CHURRASCO CON CHIMICHURRI: The chimichurri it came with was more of a bruschetta, which was very tasty, just not the chimichurri we were expecting. The ribs and sausage was cooked very well; however, the rib salt levels were vastly different. Once rib I took was completely bland, there was barely any flavor, and then the next one I got was super salty, there was a ton of rock salt sprinkled on it. If there was more consistency of salt levels on the ribs, this would have been a top contender of a dish for me! -ARROZ CALDOSO: As I believe many people have said before me, this dish is huge, it can easily feed four people rather than the two people it is advertised for. The rice at first was a bit hard but as it continued to bubble and soak up more of the broth it softened and become much better. I had it for leftovers in the morning and it so tasty. There was an average amount of monkfish which were very soft and the lobster came with two claws and two small tails. All in all, the experience was not as good as I was expecting it from the previous reviews but there were definitely some positive aspects to it. read more

You can't come to Tomiño and not get the lobster rice. For $72 dollars, you get at least four servings worth of rice and a whole lobster in a flavorful seafood broth. That's a steal in nyc. And it's not just the rice, the cocktails are hefty and pack a punch. One lychee and basil gin & tonic was almost the size of my face. And while most large drinks don't deliver in quality, this G&T goes down so smooth that you forget you're drinking alcohol. My friend ordered the Grand Street Margarita which wasn't as big but held its own in both taste and alcohol content. To nurse our drinks, my friend and I ordered two tapas as recommended by our server. The croquetas were a classic crispy delight and the chorizo was set ablaze at our table to our happy surprise (and delicious!). Outside of ordering food, service was friendly and consistent. The ambiance is the icing on the cake. The place is modern while still being warm and welcoming. If it weren't for the big and hearty lobster stew, I probably would've tried more of their tapas. But there's always next time. read more

Tomiño Taberna Gallega - Blistered peppers and croquetas - Wine Bars Near Me - New York, New York

Words cannot adequately describe how amazing Tomiño Taberna Gallega is, but I'll try anyway: with my first bite of the croquetas de jamon and first sip of my clara con limon, my eyes watered as I was brought back to the calles in Galicia where endless wine and amazing fresh comfort food flows late into the warm night. I've had croquetas in many Spanish restaurants, both in America and in Spain, but something about drinking an authentic clara and the uniqueness of the flavor of the croquetas at Tomiño (and the quality of the cooking) brought back an immediate nostalgia of being in Galicia. Everything we tried was just incredible. The pan con tomate was super fresh, perfect blend of garlic and oil, and crusty yet simultaneously soft bread. The bellota jamon was just like we get in Galicia, tasted exactly the same and was quite special. So much of the jamon in america is good, but not amazing, but nearly ALL of the jamon in Galicia is amazing. Honestly, I'd judge a spanish restaurant just by this, and Tomiño passes with 10/10. My girlfriend had pulpo a fiera and looked like she was going to cry tears of joy. We have never found pulpo in America like you'd get in Galicia; everyone in America always grills it or cooks it a la plancha but it was amazing to find it a fiera. It was clearly fresh, not frozen, and presented exactly like we find in Spain. She said the flavor was amazing. The arroz negro was by far our absolute favorite dish of the night. It was so rich, perfect in every way (salty and savory at the same time), plenty of calamari and a very good sized portion. This rice was honestly better than we've had in Spain and a dish we have been dreaming of since dining at Tomiño. We tried the chipirones and they were good, but not amazing, mainly because the portion was somewhat small. I think we counted only 6 or 8 pieces of chipis; the rest was this huge pile of potato strings or possibly onion strings. Overall the chipis were just fine. The final dish we ordered was a plancha mixta which was a massive serving of seafood. The seafood was incredibly, amazingly fresh and prepared so minimally and simply so as to highlight the true star(s) of the dish. The scallops were fantastic, cooked perfectly, although a tad more oil than we're used to. The carabineros were so tasty, so tender, cooked to perfection. My girlfriend savored the cigalas and again this is something we've never seen in America until now; this has always been a specialty that we've only been able to enjoy in Spain. Dishes we wished we tried but did not have room for: empanada gallega, tortilla, chuleton. In the online menu they also have a bunch of bocatas that look and sound amazing as well. The service was excellent, although we had a couple different servers, which made it just slightly confusing as we did not really know who to call on for questions. Everyone was very attentive, professional, kind and hospitable. In the end, this was by far the best Spanish food we've ever eaten in the United States, and I'd also say better than 90-95% of most restaurants we've eaten at in Galicia as well. A meal to remember and a place we're already waiting to get back to. read more

Only rating based on their gin and tonic which was made with Nordes gin and fevertree Indian tonic. Sooo delicious and refreshing. My friends got the huguino spritzer and tinto verano. The spritzer was delicious, especially with that homemade limoncello. The tinto verano was less sweet than the ones I've had in Spain but still enjoyable. The only negative was the price at $15 for a pretty basic drink. The g&t and cocktails were $16 which is pretty standard for NYC. read more

Best Spanish restaurant I've tried in the US (so far)! It has been so difficult to find a restaurant with good food that reminds me to home. I came for a date night with my husband and shared a variety of tapas: zamburiñas (10/10), croquetas de jamon (10/10), pulpo a la gallega (10/10 - the pulpo was so tender), patatas bravas (9/10), presa iberica (10/10), and my least favorite was the mushroom and blue cheese croquetas (it didn't have enough blue cheese flavor - 6/10). We also got a lovely Albariño to go with our food (Albariño de Fefinanes), a dry and light white wine perfect for what we ordered. To end the night and digest our food we decided to get G&T's (nothing like a good Spanish G&T!). I love Nordes so we had to go with the Nordes G&T and the Mango and Juniper Berry. The restaurant is very elegant inside, clean and very attentive service. I couldn't recommend it enough! read more

Very good and authentic Spaniard restaurant, we had too many dishes to remember all the names but my favorite was the arroz negro (calamari ink rice). The service was amazing and everyone friendly, we came for lunch and the back area felt peaceful and family friendly. We had amazing Albariño wine and also a recommendation from the server that was incredible. Price point if high but you get what you pay for. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a chill atmosphere with high quality food. The front part of the restaurant where the bar is seems more lively and has music, perhaps if not for lunch or dinner this area looks nice for drinks and tapas. read more

5 star experience across the board: top tier heart-centered Spaniard dishes. What a marvelous an experience. We ordered the following: - Menestra de Verduras: great appetizer featuring grilled vegetables with almond garlic puree. Lovely presentation and the puree took it to the next level. - Croquetas: these made my taste buds SANG. We opted for ham & La Peral blue cheese. Perfectly balanced and complimentary flavors and ideal for sharing. - Arroz Caldoso: this is the STAR of the menu and a must-order. The lobster was HUGE and the broth was incredibly hearty. Enough to share with a party of 2-3! - Dessert: Tarta de Santiago was spongy and melted in my mouth. - Drink: Ordered the LYCHEE REBUJITO and it was delightful. Loved the touch of the decorative rim. Overall, from the food to the service and ambiance this place was lovely, tasty and impeccable. I will say I loved the music they had as it well as it featured lots of Spanish music I had to Shazam. Perfect date night spot. Why? The food is excellent and unique for New York, a city with 1001 Italian, French and Greek restaurants, this Galician Spanish restaurant shines. There's a warm ambiance, it feels like the place is full of frequent fliers and those who happily stumbled upon Tomiño. It's intimate, the kitchen is in the back and partially open. There is a bar in the front, full and a little rowdier than the back dining room and the division between the front bar and back dining room is welcome. The food is Spanish style, made to share. Some absolute gems include the mussels, croquettes, the pulpa and the lobster rice. The wine, vermouth and drink list is nice as well. The service is what you would expect from a Michelin star. This place is not cheap. It's also not a dive. The portions are also not big - but it's tapas - you knew that ! That being said - this is an oasis, surrounded by Italian tourist traps, & Chinese chickens hanging in the window. And even the Chinese hanging window chickens & bowls of congee have gotten expensive - so that being said - this place is DEF a good value for the in incredible, high-level of food & service. Even at random days & times, there are still very happy patrons here. I don't eat pork (heavy on the menu), but all of the seafood dishes were heavenly. The Spanish Estrella Pilsner on tap is also super fresh here, & they also pull a mean espresso. Overall, the food is good, especially the octopus--it's probably the best dish! We came here for the lobster hot pot, but it was just okay. We went on Valentine's day and got super lucky risking a walk-in since all reservations were gone and they had told us it's pretty busy so they can't guarantee. Upon arrival, we didn't have to wait at all and sat at the bar which offers the full menu service! The waiters were kind and helped explain some special menu drinks they were offering. Tomino seasonal sour - This was a strawberry pomegranate jasmine gin. The fruity flavors came through but the gin was a bit too strong in my opinion since i like sweeter less alcohol forward drinks. I enjoyed and felt it but probably wouldn't order again personally. One thing that was disappointing though is that this is a sour that was not sour at all. 2.5/5 Estrella Galicia - partner got this and liked it! Pulpo a Féira - Very well-seasoned and perfect amount of chewy vs softness octopus bites! it comes with a lot so you could easily share this with 3-4 people. My only wish is that it came with something like rice to offset the seafood and strong spices or that it came out later with our entree so we can eat it together. 4.25/5 Arroz Caldoso - So warm, flavorful, and comforting! it feels like a brothier paella. The rice is soft and soaks up all the super delicious broth, lobster is cooked well and tasty, and monkfish pieces super clean and tender! Would definitely come back for this. The only thing is that around 3/4 way through it does get a bit too repatitive and would've been better with some more seafood read more

Food 8/10 A solid spot if you're craving tapas! Their octopus was seasoned very thoroughly and came out extremely tender-might be my favorite dish of the meal. I also really enjoyed the croquetas, even though I usually view potatoes as having no value add. The salad was also very refreshing, full of tomatoes and olives, while the iberica was my least favorite, simply because it didn't stand out as much as the others. Atmosphere 8/10 Located on Grand Street, the restaurant has quite a good number of seats. There's a bar at the front, with tables in the back. Ceilings were high, and I recall getting some natural sunlight. Service 8/10 Good service, fast and efficient. read more

A really great restaurant that focuses on an upper scale, Galician Spanish food. Tomiño brings me back to my times in Spain and I think it might be the best Spanish restaurant in the city. The place is fairly lively and is great for drinks as well as food. It's a good date spot. The house made limoncello cocktail is incredible. The food features some fancy plating, and the menu is largely comprised of small plates (though they aren't that small frankly). Everything was cooked well, but the highlight was the Arroz Negro. I ran into this restaurant when I was planning my trip to Little Italy. It's definitely a hidden gem among rows of Italian restaurants. Amazing Spanish food. Not surprised that it received Michelin star in 2020. Since coming back from Spain, I have been craving for a Spanish food that can transport me back to the moment when I was enjoying an authentic Spanish food. Tomińo definitely exceeds my expectations. Pimientos pardon is a great way to start. Spanish tortilla is made in perfection. Better than the one I had in Madrid. Runny center as it's supposed to be. Not too salty and has some sweetness. Octopus aka Pulpo is another winner. Well seasoned and perfectly executed with good quality of olive oil and some smokiness. I cannot wait to come back. It's worth it to travel from Philly to enjoy a delicious authentic Spanish food. Not too formal ambiance. There's a bar area where you can watch sports. Several jamón are also hanging by the bar area. Great service. My food came out right away. read more

Come for the space, they've got an open, brightly lit dining room that feels incredibly spacious -- good for groups and entertaining out of town guests, perhaps. Service was also excellent, the staff were so friendly and professional throughout our meal. The food itself, however, didn't blow me away. We had an octopus dish that was far too salty, and the octopus itself was almost mealy with each bite. Not a great start. The scallops dish was great, that was the highlight for me. They were prepared nicely and full of flavor. Finally, the arroz dish, almost like a soupy paella, was fine, but didn't stand out. The lobster was a really nice touch, and prepared perfectly, but overall, the dish isn't going to have me racing to come back. Overall: I went here on a Friday night with my girlfriend. Reservations can sometimes be difficult to get for peak times, so I recommend booking a couple weeks in advance if possible. Most of the food was delicious, though some dishes were a much better than others. The octopus in particular was a very large portion and some of the most tender we have tried. We're looking forward to going back! Food: 5 Drinks: 4 Service: 4 Value: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Food: We ordered several tapas (listed below). Our waitress recommended ~3 dishes per person, but that seemed to be on the high side - we probably could have done with 4-5 between the two of us. The octopus was fantastic (some of our favorite we've tried) and the tortilla and churrasco were highlights. The sardines tasted good, but were full of tiny bones that were near impossible to remove. In hindsight, I wish we had tried some of the tinned fish instead of the grilled sardines. But overall, all of the food ranged from good to great. - Pan con Tomate - Churrasco con Chimichurri - Sardinas a la Brasa - Tortilla de Betanzos - Tomate, Higos, y Ventresca - Pulpo a Feira Drinks: The drink menu here is dominated by a large gin and tonic menu. We each ordered one, and they came in enormous goblets. The drink itself was just alright, but at least the portion was good. We spent the entire meal trying to finish them. Service: Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, though not the most attentive. There were several times that we were completely left alone for long stretches of the meal, and there was a ~30 minute gap at one point between some of our dishes. We still had a good time and the slow pace was probably good considering the amount of food that was provided, but the service had potential to be more prompt and attentive. Value: Each of the tapas that we ordered ranged from $9-$20. They were generally all good portion sizes for a tapas place, but tapas in general tend not to be the most efficient for value purposes. Atmosphere: The place was very lively. We were seated near the kitchen and could see all of the hustle and bustle of the staff. It was a fun place to be without being so loud that we couldn't hear each other. read more

Service was nice, space was pretty and clean, but food was definitely lacking. We got six items and the bill was already $203 after taxes and tip - worse is leaving unsatisfied and still hungry haha. But I knew it was tapas before coming, so I already expected to just have a taste of the food, but I was still pretty disappointed. Zamburinas $16: bay scallops on the shell, my favorite out of everything ordered. It was pretty tiny, but more heavily seasoned and delicious. Pulpo A Fiera $24: loved the texture of the octopus here, but too drenched in oil that I couldn't taste anything else Arroz Caldoso Con Bogavante $68: I was pretty surprised by how soupy this was (we were saying the whole time it was like we were eating congee). This wasn't bad for sure, all the ingredients in it were good, but I think we just expected to be hit more with a "wowww sooo good" kinda feeling, and none of the dishes here did that for us. It says for 2 people but can easily be for 4 people Picana $19: wow, for this price, the pieces offered were minimal and worse, it was so tough and chewy Patatas Bravas $11: as expected Tortilla de Betanzos $12: this was something we didn't even bother finishing. The description said runny egg, but runny egg there was none. You're just getting potatoes. Lightly seasoned potatoes. Hard pass. read more

This used to be my favorite tapas place in the city. Our last visit made it my least favorite. We were seated promptly, we ordered our usual (octopus, Spanish omelet) and some dishes we haven't tried. Waiter was fast and everything was great... until we noticed table around us that were seated after us got food, and we got nothing. What was worse was that we could see the kitchen, and kitchen staff wasn't cooking anything. We waved down our waiter, he went to "check something", and came back and said "there's some confusion on your order". NO, that's not confusion, he forgot to put order in. I could see him putting things in on the screen and the kitchen staff started moving around. Guess what, people make mistakes, that's okay. What is not okay is someone cannot own up to their mistakes. For a popular place like this, forgetting to put orders in can happen, just say "sorry I forgot to put your order in, they are working on it now, my apologies". Take responsibility. Anyways, please train your staff better. Maybe we will recover from this experience somehow and come back. read more

Absolutely delicious. Everything was yummy. Missing my patatas bravas though hahaha! Very loud restaurant, would be hard for a meeting or date. read more

One of my new favorite places. Everything was really wonderful, our favorites were the croquetas, the pan con tomate, and the octopus. I see why this place is so well renowned with the Michelin Bib Gourmand status! The only thing I would have skipped was the crepe. Couldn't recommend more! read more
