Had an excursion at NYC and my sister recommended this place. Never been to any Portuguese style restaurant, so I was stoked to this place out!! From the moment I walked into, I knew this place had it all. The ambience was very upbeat and bright which was very refreshing. Our server at the bar was top notch. He was extremely knowledgeable and helped guide me throughout the meal. For appetizers, we got octopus carpaccio and cod and potatoes croquettes. The octopus had to be the most tender octopus I've ever tried! It was cooked perfectly and was served with potato chips which gave it that "crunch factor". For the main entree I got a Porto Sandwich. Essentially it's a sirloin steak covered in white plum bread served with a beer sauce. The sauce coupled perfectly with the bread. The white plum absorbed the beer sauce which really amped the flavor profile. Of course we saved room for dessert and we got chocolate mousse. The mousse was to die for. I would go back just for that! Overall, this is my favorite place in New York thus far. I reinstalled this app just to put this review in. Will be back in a couple months for round 2!

Amazing experience at Leitao! To start it off, the host Nano was so kind and helpful. I arrived before my friends and had to wait at my table for a bit so he got me champagne while I waited. Then our server Frank was just as friendly. He helped us choose our dishes. The stars of the show were the octopus (both salad and plated but I think the salad was the winner) and the fava bean spinach dip. Randomly, the bread was delicious and fresh. The croquettes were great as well. We also got the fries and ribs. We ended with the chocolate mousse, which was on fire so that was cool. As far as drinks go, the passion fruit margarita was my friend's favorites but I liked the Porto sour. Overall, great experience thanks to Nano and Frank + the food lived up to the hype. It was a busy Friday night and they had to turn a lot of people away from the walk in list -- make your reservations in advance!

I felt like I was back in Portugal! It was all so delicious with rich flavors that hit the spot. The fava con chourico was out of this world and the piri piri was one of the best chicken dishes as someone who doesn't typically order chicken. This pasteis de nata rivals some of the others I've had. This is a repeat place - service was good and food came quickly.

Man, oh man. Their freaking octopus. Jaw on the ground. I didn't think I'd be a fan of octopus, but they grilled it to its most perfect state. Like the outside was crispy, and whatever sauce on it was really good, but the INSIDE. the inside was so tender. It was almost like the texture of a raw mozzarella ball. THAT's how tender it was. Also it was a very large tentacle. The salted cod balls also tasted really good. They were crispy on the outside and light and airy inside. We overheard them saying they had limited quantities of the duck rice, so obviously, we had to get it. But could've passed on that. It was kinda spicy and nothing too special. Service was also really good. they gave us portuguese tarts on the house at the end too! I was too full to finish it tho. But it was warm and fresh

I will definitely return for the delicious menu choices and the Mediterranean ambiance of the restaurant, which truly transports you to another part of the world. We tried the highly recommended Porco Preto (pork ribs), which was generous in size and rich in flavor. The Salad de Polvo (octopus salad) was also substantial, and the incredibly tender octopus exceeded my expectations. Additionally, we had the spinach with fava beans; the smooth fava bean puree topped with garlic-flavored spinach was a masterpiece. The staff here are friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place.

Obsessed. Leitao is a hidden gem Portuguese restaurant -- everything was great: from the food, especially the octopus salad (must get imo), to the drinks! I loved the passion fruit margaritas!

Cannot recommend Leitao higher. Truly amazing. Order everything on the menu!!! The staff was amazing. The restaurant was well appointed. We had a table in the basement, which was cozy but perfect for our larger group. Run. Don't walk to Leitao!!!

The ambience is so cute and cozy, definitely a great spot to warm up and unwind during the winter. We got the octopus salad, piri piri chicken, and egg tarts, and everything was absolutely delicious. I have never eaten a more tender and flavorful octopus, and the bread that came with it was crispy yet soft on the inside. I could eat this everyday. The piri piri chicken was made using a house sauce which was very good, and the chicken came in a decent portion and was tender. I absolutely loved the egg tarts as they were creamy and cinnamony but not too rich. Would definitely come back again!

First time to experience eating Suckling Pig. Was it worth it? My asnwer is, Definitely Yes! First time in Leitao, West Village. The restaurant offers the suckling Pig for a group. The reservations needs to be a month ahead. The restaurant offers us to dine in 30mins before our time with a total of 2 hours and 45mins. The restaurant was small but very clean. The Staff are very kind especially Victor our server. Speaking of Suckling Pig. The flavor was rich. I could tell that it was done well. It was juicy and was clean thoroughly. It was a good experience. Let me just say that it will cost you. My only suggestion for Leitao is properly arrange the table placing the Suckling Pig in the midde and surrounding it with all the side dishes that came with it. Instead of bringing the side dishes one by one then there Suckling Pig was last serve when there was no more space in the the table for it.

Go for dinner and a fire show, but it's super popular so make a reservation beforehand Wowed by the chourico portugues assado - the fire display is spectacular Ambiance was loud, tons of people, a little rowdy, service was rather slow Menu was the chourico portugues assado and octopus carpaccio - lots of protein and all super flavorful

Wow. This is one of the places where I am surprised I can even get a reservation. The staff that work here are incredibly nice and accommodating. I could not ask for better hosts. The food was delicious. Porco Preto - great flavor, personally not one of my favorites, but everyone else loved it Salad de Polvo - amazingly done, very soft octopus salad Bife a Cervejeiro - Sirloin Steak in Garlic sauce - this was my personal favorite. The meat was perfectly cooked and the sauce was umami heaven. Polvo, octopus carpaccio - yes, we ordered two octopus dishes. I can't say one was better than the other. It is more of your mood. If you want some more greens with the octopus, and if you want a more meaty bite, I say go for the salad. If you are sharing with a lot of people, go for the carpaccio, you won't have to cut it up yourself. Bolinhos de Bacalhau - cod and potato croquettes. I did not think I would like this, but this was amazing. The cod was soft and it was not a hard shell. The shell was fried, but still soft. Arroz de Marisco - this was probably not my favorite. It is also in a soupy rice. Will definitely return to try the roast pig!

Spicy mezcal margarita, passion fruit margarita

We stumbled upon this cute little Portuguese spot and decided to give it a try because of the European and chic ambiance. So glad we did because we had the best dinner and drinks and time here! We sat at the bar and ordered spicy mezcal margaritas. The bartender told us it'll take a little longer because he wanted to wait for fresh lime juice, so in the interim he gave us the most delicious passionfruit cocktail on the house. We ordered a steak dish and the fries. I truly never knew fries can taste that delicious. The meal came with complimentary bread and we devoured it entirely. The bread was so fresh and warm and toasted perfectly with a drizzle of olive oil. Chatting with the bartender was a huge plus as well. He was so kind and gave great recs. We'll definitely be back here! I do recommend making a reservation as this place gets very busy (and rightfully so)

This was recommend to me by my friend. We came here as a farewell dinner to me as I'm moving. She said it's been on her list for a while. For starters we got the linguica and the steak. The wait staff recommended we share an entree because they are designed to be large and shared family style. So we got the Arroz con Marisco, which is a seafood stew with rice. All of the dishes were freaking awesome. It had just the right amount of heat when it wanted to, tons of flavor, and if my stomach was bottomless, I would've eaten everything. It was that good. The linguica comes out flambeed and the staff cut it up for you and do more flambee tableside. It wasn't too busy when we first got there but by the time we left, it was full with a line outside. So make a reservation. It's one of the best Portuguese places I have been to and I hope everyone gets to a chance to try it.

Actually, I'm so glad we stumbled in because their cute and short food menu is PERFECTION for lovers of small bites -- crab dumplings, caviar deviled eggs, spicy tuna crispy rice, shrimp cocktail, oysters, sardines, etc... Things I dream of all in one sexy, cozy place that whisks you far away from the streets of Manhattan. Our chairs were comfy, and there were many seating areas that looked equally as inviting. The bar was gorgeous, lighting was super moody. The room was daaark and not very busy on a Friday around 8-8:30 P.M which we appreciated. While I can't comment on the wine list personally, I know they are well-known for their extensive selection. After placing our order, we were delivered the sesame pizza bianca, which is a complimentary starter bread with dinner. The bread was a nice size and light and airy with a perfect crust and a delicious, crusty sesame seed bottom. The prawns were our starter and came three to a dish. They were sizable, though since they are served with the head and tail, there isn't a ton of meat on them. That said, they were flavorful and juicy with a nice sauce and just the right amount of spice that didn't overwhelm the fish. The snowdance chicken was the star of the show! It was incredibly juicy and tender with perfectly prepared skin, so I was happy to learn they keep this on the menu year-round. It was topped with some spinach that was solid, though nothing special. We also ordered a side of mushrooms which came with a creamy sauce and fish roe intended to be mixed at the table. The roe wasn't fishy at all but added a great element of umami to the flavorful, well-textured mushrooms. Overall, the service was very professional, though I thought the pacing could have been improved as the dishes came out a bit slowly. I would also recommend ordering at least two dishes per person, as the three plates we shared between two people felt like just a touch too little food. I'm already looking forward to going back--I'd try the winter chicories salad or the veal sweetbreads next time, but I'm open to exploring everything since the quality is so high. I noticed a side dish listed on their online menu that wasn't actually offered in person, so it might be worth double-checking if you have your heart set on a specific item.

I made reservations after seeing their special hot chocolate on social media and had a wonderful meal! Started off with the hiramasa which was fresh and went deliciously well with the citrus-y and sweet cara cara orange, as well as the aji peppers! The castelfranco chickory salad was fresh, crunchy, slightly creamy and slightly tangy - basically everything you need in an appetizing salad! Their house sesame bread was fluffy and chewy with a good amount of sesame flavor without having too many seeds. For mains, the farfelle was very interesting and tasty! The pasta was al dente and the sauce was addicting! At first I was wondering if it would resemble a nut butter, but it was creamy with very prominent walnut flavors and interesting texture (perhaps from the blended walnut skin component?). The addition of burrata and other cheeses was perfect for a cheese-lover like me. The pork chop was flavorful, well-seasoned, and juicy. The leek and cabbage mixture soaked up all the sauce and I wish there was more! Their special hot chocolate with an espresso martini marshmallow was fire!!!! Hot chocolate was decadent, not too thick, and not too sweet. The toasted marshmallow melted quickly but definitely had coffee and alcohol flavors. The amount per serving doesn't appear a lot but appropriate considering how rich it is. The mascarpone dessert had a great balance of fluffy cream, extremely crispy phyllo, and crunchy nuts with a touch of chocolate and vanilla! For drinks, I was really curious about the bi lemongrass but they ran out. Staff recommended the semiplume, which felt like a beer, tea, and sparkling wine all at once! Loved the floral aroma and bitter tea notes. My partner's cocktails were also well executed. Staff were nice and friendly. We got seats right by the kitchen so staff often checked in with us, including the chef!! Vibes were intimate with the dim lighting and minimalist decor. Definitely want to come back to check out their chicken and other dishes!!

We came in on a Friday evening and it was pretty quiet inside. After we were sat down upstairs, it took a long time for our waitress to come to take our order. All three had very strong flavors that were not balanced with the rest of the drink. After we finished our drinks, we waited an especially long time for the waitress to come back, check on us, and give us our bill. It was especially frustrating because we were the only ones in the bar at this point and we could hear them chatting downstairs. Overall, both service and the drinks need improvement.
