Such a beautiful restaurant! I loveee Peruvian Japanese fusion, and Papa San has a really interesting menu. Went for HH, had the delicious Paloma, so good for summer!! For bites we had the eeel pizza and the skate cheeks, both were delicious and a perfect bite to snack on.

My friends and I had dinner here last night, recommended by one of us who had been to their sister restaurant. We all love Peruvian food as well as Japanese (raw fish is a staple for our girl's nights), so we showed up hungry and excited. To start, my friend and I ordered Marxxxtinis and my NA friend ordered a couple of Chicha Moradas. I REALLY enjoyed the Marxxxtini's as I love Bombay. Normally sparkling wine is a hit or miss for me but this was a huge hit. Plus the cloud foam at the top of the drink was super fun to sip and mix in, like a matcha drink. We all shared a dish from each section of the food menu, so I'll break each down below. Scallop Ceviche: this was one of my favorites. Scallops being a standout ingredient isn't something I come across often but this was perfection. The dragonfruit and yuzu kept it light and bright. My only qualm is this was a small dish. Wagyu Maki Roll: SO delicious and I want to say 8 pieces, so I felt the value was very much there. The variety of textures were perfect and the Wagyu was so flavorful. Miso Black Cod: Served with savory and comforting nori polenta, this dish could put me to bed it's so good. Again, what they did to the fish in this dish is uncommonly excellent. I've never had cod this tender yet crispy on the outside. This was a close tie to my favorite dish of the night. Wagyu Tri-tip: Surprisingly, I found the Wagyu in this dish to underwhelming. We think the cut of it was just not the best. The yuzu bearnaise was very interesting, but did not pair well with this in my opinion. It felt like it almost was meant to mask the meat and was more overpowering than it should have been for such a delicate meat. Beef Short Rib Estofado: This donabe bowl had the biggest portion out of everything we ordered. The meat and sauce was good but the potatoes were just ok. I thought the spinach was good and the tomato confit was really nice. Rice cooked well. Lucama Soft Serve: I liked the gritty texture (personally) but this was nothing special, the chocolate sauce tasted like Hershey's and there wasn't enough salt to complement that + the olive oil. The place itself is really cute and vibey and our server and host were great, clearing plates and wiping the table for crumbs. Mid meal they brought over shots of something (plus a non-alcoholic one) for all of us to take. For the price, I'd only go back to try the other ceviches. I'm interested to try their other restaurant though!

The first few times we came here we were pretty unimpressed and found the food unmemorable. But on our most recent visit last night we found all the dishes quite good! Pretty unique also. - Sticky pork ribs (3/5): Not bad. Some pieces were good and tender but others were a bit too hard. A little messy to eat but overall not bad. - Shrimp with heads (4/5): This came with bread and I think a side of pickled veggies (wasn't sure what it was but I didn't like it). The shrimp was juicy though and the sauce was nice. - Loaded papa San (5/5): These were like a baked potato sort of. Super delicious! - Scallop ceviche (3.5/5): My husband liked these. I thought they were pretty decent but just a little tart for my taste. - Blue crab roll (5/5): Maybe my favorite dish of the night. Should've ordered two of these. - Vegetable tempura roll (4/5): Also pretty good but had a little too much sauce. The tempura was nice and crispy. - Tofu with shrimp (4/5): Quite tasty especially the shrimp. Overall, a nice addition to the neighborhood with some unique dishes!

Such an underrated gem in hudson yard and super easy to get a reservation last minute - the food was so delicious, ambiance was great, and service was super fast! For drinks - the sake is refreshing and so delicious, and the papa sour is a great choice for a cocktail. Here is everything we got for a group of 4 (note: the portion sizes are on the smaller side here and it is rather expensive) - Scallop ceviche (5/5): the scallop was buttery soft and I loved the nori chips and dragon fruit! - Salmon ceviche (5/5): the broth was so delicious in this ceviche and the crispy quinoa was chef's kiss. I just kept drinking the broth at the end because it was that good - a bit tangy and extremely refreshing - Blue Crab Maki (4/5): this roll has a crispy crust and the blue crab is delicious, but the sauce was slightly overpowering - Wagyu Maki (5/5): this was my favorite maki. I loved the crunchy bits on the top and the maki was savory like lomo saltado - Udon Noodles (4.5/5): these were delicious! not too heavy like caio e pepe normally is and I loved how chewy the noodles were. Squid was good but not my absolute favorite - Crispy Tofu (5/5): I LOVED this dish - it was so crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The sauce is a bit creamier but it paired so well with the tofu and the shrimp - Eel Pizza (4.5/5): I loved how thin and light this pizza was and the eel was delicious - I just wish there was more eel. The crust was extremely crispy - Veggie Skewer (4/5): the mushroom XO sauce on the side was really good. My favorite pieces are the chewy tteokboki and mushroom, though it is really expensive for what it is - Beef Short Rib (4.5/5): really homey and satiating. On the heavier side but the beef is so tender and melts in your mouth, and the sushi rice it came with is delicious - Wagyu Tri tip (3.5/5): probably my least favorite dish of the night since I am not a huge steak lover, but this was pretty tender and juicy. a little chewier though - I wish it was a bit meltier I left feeling extremely food but everything was so delicious! Extremely underrated in my opinion

I've been to Papa San for a happy hour, which with the decor and vibes-is quite a fitting spot for such an occasion. This time around, I came back here for lunch and experienced the below: Small Plates- Fluke Ceviche Scallop Ceviche Spicy Tuna Tartare Gunkan Bok Choy Salad Cucumber Salad Udon Noodles Cacio E Pepe w/ Squid BBQ Eel Pizza Crispy Pork Belly Bao Papa San Bowls- Tuna Poke Grilled Picanha Steak Dessert- Lucama Soft Serve The portions are quite small, so you either have to ask them to make portion counts the same amount as the number of people at the table. Memorable dishes for us were the pizza, bao, and poke. The udon noodles did not stack up to the images they have on their to go website, they use less of a cacio e pepe sauce and moreso a gochujang sauce. Would recommend for happy hours and less so for an actual sit down meal-you'll end up needing to order multiple just to be full!

Great spot in Hudson yards from the Llama San team (miss that spot) but there were some great dishes that were nostalgic and some new faves! Standouts were the Scallop Ceviche w dragonfruit and the Cacio Pepe Udon w stir fried squid (reminds me of the Llama San version :)). Also tried the blue crab maki, miso black cod, and stuffed squid (very unique). Drink menu is also fun! Vibe inside is nice, good date option but it's a bit out of the way. Our server was helpful with explaining the menu and giving recs, and food comes out quickly with good pacing. Probs a great spot for a post work dinner if you work in Hudson yards!

My coworkers and I happened to walk past Papa San during the day while on a work trip in NYC, and something about it just looked interesting enough for them to warrant a return for dinner, especially the Japanese-Peruvian fusion appeal. I'll admit I had my reservations at first, but the moment we walked in and saw the place packed, I knew we were in for something good. We ended up sitting at the bar since the tables were full, and honestly, it was the best way to experience the night. There's such a great energy watching the kitchen team; they work so seamlessly together and you can tell they are genuinely passionate about what they do. The food absolutely lived up to the Michelin Guide hype. We started with the blue crab roll, which had this melt-in-your-mouth texture. The udon noodles were another standout, they managed to stay light rather than heavy, and the spice was perfect. It gave you all that bold flavor without a lingering heat that burns your palate. Even the squid in the dish was cooked perfectly and wasn't tough at all. We also tried the eel pizza, which was a unique, well-balanced surprise. The highlight of the night for me, though, might have been the drink. Being from LA and a big fan of boba, the "marxxxtini" reminded me of a high-quality iced tea topped with foam. I loved that you could keep the fragrant foam and the sparkling wine separate or mix them together. I went for the mix and it was easily one of my favorite drinks ever. To top everything off, the chef was incredibly kind and treated us to a vanilla soy milk soft serve. The mix of matcha cream and sesame oil with the vanilla soy milk soft serve was such a sophisticated, tasty way to end the meal. Between the amazing hospitality and the unique flavors, I'm already looking forward to my next work trip just so I can come back and try the rest of the menu.

The popular Llama San has closed, and Llama Inn in Williamsburg is also closing soon - which means Papa San in Hudson Yards will soon be the only remaining spot in NYC from the Llama Inn team. Even with the loss of Llama Inn and Llama San, we are blessed to have the team recently open Papa San, bringing their renowned Peruvian fare with a Japanese kick to another neighborhood, this time to the west side of Midtown Manhattan. In a cool, open space adjacent to Hudson Yards, we came in on a Wednesday evening for a friend's birthday and had a fantastic experience. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, along with many of the other staff including management, who helped simply add nothing but positive vibes to our celebratory dinner. Papa San generally serves small plates with a few notable exceptions, and recommends about 2-3 plates per person. They have plenty of options - from maki rolls and ceviches to meats and noodles - providing an opportunity to create your own tasting menu. They also have a chicken yakitori experience for two, that we did not try this visit. Cocktails: Papa Sour - Papa San's take on a pisco sour, really nicely done Lychee de Tigre - a delicious, sweet but balanced mezcal cocktail Notable plates: Lovvved the eel pizza, bok choy salad, scallop ceviche, octopus ceviche/tiradito, the blue crab maki roll, and the cold rice noodles. Others really liked the crispy pork belly, although it wasn't my personal favorite. The grilled picanha was okay, but the additions it comes with and the beef broth make the dish. The tuna robataya with fava beans was not great (the tuna/ponzu dish is not currently on menu), and the kimchi side was missing flavor or any spice. Overall, the meal was still fantastic and it was great to be able to try so many things on the menu.

Papa san is a Peruvian-Japanese restaurant. The spicy miso ramen - I asked if they could do not spicy, and they mentioned the spicy comes on the side and you could put it in. Turns out, that's not the case or they didn't make it that way, so it was spicy and it was already in the soup. Potatoes in the soup - also not great. The eel over rice bowl looked much better, though the veggies looked off (green beans, etc.) in the mix there. BBQ eel pizza wasn't bad, a bit greasy but a nice crisp and good eel sauce flavor.

Stopped in for lunch and it was quiet. We were seated right away. No wait, no crowd, which made for a relaxed start. They offer a printed cocktail menu, but the food menu is accessed through a QR code. You can order as an individual or as a group from your phone. That feature worked well and made splitting items simple. Orders went straight to the kitchen without any confusion. Food breakdown. Spicy Miso Ramen. This bowl brought real heat. If you like spice, you will get it here. The broth had depth and flavor, but the spice level was strong enough that I could not fully enjoy sipping it on its own. The egg was cooked well, noodles had good texture, and the toppings were fresh. Salmon Teriyaki Bowl. Excellent. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Moist inside with a nice sear on the outside. The sauce complemented the fish without overpowering it. Easily one of the best items we ordered. Pichana Bowl. Great flavor throughout. The beef was tender and well seasoned. The edamame and vegetables added balance and texture. A solid choice. Pork Belly Bao. Just ok. Flavor was there, but the pork belly leaned a bit dry. I expected more richness and moisture. The space itself is modern with an open bar and hanging greenery, which gives it a clean and inviting look. Overall, a good lunch spot with some strong dishes. I would come back for the salmon bowl and to explore more of the menu.

Great spot for dinner after work in the Hudson yards area! The eel pizza was delicious and so unique and the other dishes were also very good. Ambiance was very cool, kind of like a bar

This is a Peruvian/Japanese fusion restaurant in the Hudson Yards area of Manhattan. Cool upscale/eclectic feel to it. Food (4.25/5) - went there for dinner and it had a nice mix of small plates, bowls, grills and ceviches on the menu. Ideally suited for a group of 3-4 to taste enough of the menu items. - Spanish Octopus Ceviche - this was pretty good... nice flavour from the Togarashi spices which mixed nicely with the juices. Normally don't like breaded octopus but this was cooked well and properly tender. - Crispy Pork Belly - was not bad... cooked properly with not a lot of fat. Tonkatsu sauce for flavour. - Udon Noodles - this was the best dish for sure. Unique mix of udon noodles with a black pepper pecorino emulsion and tender squid. Really liked this one. Service (4.5/5) - friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Server took the time to explain all of the options, provide recommendations and explain how the dishes were constructed. Dishes came out pretty quickly. Atmosphere (4.25/5) - cool, eclectic feel to it with the open kitchen and grill and neon lighting. Vibey music in the background and mix of tables and bar seats. Overall (4.25/5) - a good spot definitely worth trying out... especially with a small group for a lot of variety. Will definitely repeat to try out more of the menu items!

Came for quick bite and drinks. We like the fried fish more than octopus ceviche (a bit dry), drinks were good. Okay?

The energy is right there, hovering, but it never actually lands. It's giving "almost iconic" but not quite--like a party that never fully starts. And that's what gets me. Because this bar could EASILY be that spot. The kind people plan their week around. Where are the themed nights? Where's the drama? The chaos? Give me a reason to come back on a random Wednesday. Do a city-event tie-in, a holiday takeover, literally anything that makes it feel alive instead of just... existing. Because right now it feels like a missed opportunity wearing a cute outfit. BUT--let's talk about the one thing they absolutely did not fumble: the view. The VIEW??? Insane. Genuinely stunning. The kind of view that makes you pause mid-sentence and remember you're in New York and not just spiraling in your own life choices. It's carrying the entire experience on its back, respectfully. So yeah. I'd come back... but mostly for the view and the potential. If they ever decide to actually do something with this space? It could be dangerous (in a good way).
