A reasonably priced, and well regarded newly minted one Michelin star joint in NYC, Crown Shy is a great addition to any weekend getaway. The server was extremely knowledgeable and fluent in the menu, and had strong recommendations in their selection. My favorites of night include the roasted short ribs, scallops and the pork katsu but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu depending on your tastes! Overall, a solid selection of dishes, and astoundingly straightforward given the michelin star!

Cute and intimate spot that is perfect for date night or small group dinners. The open kitchen adds to the charm. We could hear the kitchen team chanting throughout the meal, which made the whole experience feel personal and lively. We started with the snapper ceviche and it really set the tone. Our server took the time to walk us through the dish, explaining the different elements and its origin, which I really appreciated. It helped frame the flavors and made the dish even more enjoyable. I loved the mix of textures and bright flavors. For entrees, we ordered the pork katsu and the grilled citrus marinated chicken, two popular dishes. Both were solid, but neither really stood out or wowed me. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding for two, which was phenomenal. It was my first time having it with apple sorbet and I was not totally sure how to approach it. After such a great explanation of the ceviche, I do wish the other servers had continued that level of presentation for the remainder of the dishes.

I visited Crown Shy with my family for the holidays, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. We arrived a bit early and enjoyed some time at the bar before being seated. The menu offered so many amazing choices. As a wonderful surprise, we started with their complimentary Pull-Apart Pistachio Pesto Bread with Goat Chive Butter, which truly stole the show--it was warm, flavorful, and unforgettable. For appetizers, we shared the Gruyère Fritters--perfectly crispy and delicious--along with the White Bean Hummus, which had a subtle and yummy flavor. The pear salad was refreshing with generous pear slices. The Snapper Crudo was bright and helped cleanse our palates between bites. For our main courses, we split several dishes. The Ricotta Gnocchi was rich and generously portioned, the filling was so delicious. My personal favorite was the Grilled Citrus-Marinated Chicken--the meat was tender and full of flavor. The Crown Pork Katsu was also good: crispy, flavorful, and delicious. To finish, we shared the Gooseberry Sticky Toffee Pudding with pecans and apple sorbet. It was absolutely divine--the best dessert I've had in awhile. I highly recommend booking a reservation in advance, as Crown Shy does get very busy! Overall, it was an incredible meal, and I highly recommend Crown Shy for a special dining experience!

Crown Shy absolutely lives up to the hype. From the moment you walk in, the space feels warm, buzzy, and effortlessly cool--confident without trying too hard. We visited during Restaurant Week 2026, and it was an excellent showcase of what Crown Shy does best. Every dish felt thoughtful, bold, and beautifully balanced. The flavors were creative without being fussy, and it was clear there was serious technique behind each course. Even on a prix-fixe menu, nothing felt watered down or like an afterthought. Highlights included: * Oysters with sherry consommé and celery * Spiced shrimp cocktail with yuzu and Thai chili sauce * Short rib kulcha with horseradish and black pepper * Grilled citrus-marinated chicken * Key lime sorbet with coconut crumble for dessert This is quintessential Michelin-star dining--refined but approachable. Crown Shy earned its Michelin star just six months after opening in 2019 and has maintained it every year since, and it shows. The fully open kitchen is a great touch; watching the team in action adds to the experience. Service was polished yet relaxed: attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly without ever feeling overbearing. Our servers were happy to walk us through the menu and offer thoughtful recommendations, which made the night even better. Perfect for a special occasion, a celebratory dinner, or just a lunch during a snowstorm. If this is what Crown Shy delivers during Restaurant Week, I can't wait to come back and explore the full menu.

I heard so many praises for Crown Shy so I decided to check it out for their winter restaurant week - specifically their lunch menu. It's a great deal at $45 for an appetizer, main, and even included a dessert. First, the restaurant was quite difficult to find. We wandered outside the building before finding the entrance inside. The location is definitely more inconspicuous than I expected. Inside, it was pretty vibing but not really in a fine-dining type of way. It felt very casual. We arrived a little early but our table was ready relatively quickly. Service was definitely not as good as I expected. The waitress was friendly but it seemed like she was juggling several tables as it was difficult to get her attention. At times, it felt like we weren't really attended to. I felt a stark difference compared to when I went to the Bar Room at the Modern. When the appetizers came, we were a little worried. The appetizer portion size was extremely small. We were worried that we would need to grab a snack elsewhere afterwards. We got the oysters and the shrimp cocktail. It came with 3 oysters and 3 shrimps. The presentation was quite tacky especially with the shrimp cocktail. I don't quite understand the artistic vision behind the standing lettuce. The taste of both was also quite equally mediocre. With the oyster dish, having a slight edge over the shrimp cocktail. Luckily, the main course saved the meal. We got the pork katsu sandwich which came with roasted potatoes and the short rib kulcha. The short rib kulcha was highly recommended as they recently installed a tandoor oven! Both of the main courses were delicious but the short rib kulcha was especially delicious. The inside filling is a bit spicy but not too bad. The way the flavors went together and the bread layer was so good. The katsu was also nicely breaded and fried. The portion sizes of both entrees were great and we were so full afterwards. I wasn't sure if I even had the room for dessert but luckily I did. The dessert was so refreshing and light. It was like a key lime sorbet over a coconut ice cream with coconut flakes and a pear sauce. It was so delicious. I'm still dreaming of that dessert. If they sold the dessert on its own, I would come just for the dessert. I really wanted to try their famous pistachio pull apart bread but unfortunately, it's only available for dinner. I was quite disappointed as I even wanted to add it on to our meal. I think that gives me another reason to come back for dinner to try their pistachio bread. Overall: the appetizers are mediocre but the entrees and dessert are the highlights of the show. I think it's a great visit during restaurant week.

Came here for a date night because it's always near work but we never made the time to go. We sat down and got to ordering! The restaurant is dimly lightly, perfect for the intimidate moments. Our server Julia explained the menu to us and recommended the tonkatsu over the chicken but we decided to get both for entrees we also got the red snapper as an appetizer. We got started with the complimentary pesto pistachio bread, which was pretty good. The red snapper came first and was our favorite dish. The fish was very fresh, and mixed well with the tarty sauce. Chicken was very juicy but had a big kick, great to keep us warm during the cold. The katsu was crispy in the beginning but got soggy as time went on, it is basted in sauce after all. We got sticky toffee pudding with green apple sorbet as dessert. I'm not a fruit sorbet guy but the apple sorbet was very refreshing at the end of the meal. Our experience was good, and we loved Julia. I think we came in with too high of an expectation as it was a Michelin star restaursnt, and didn't really get too wow'd. Still a great restaurant for date nights regardless!

Visited Crown Shy on my birthday weekend, was excited for my meal. They make you wait at the front bar and get a drink before being seated, so the experience is kind of clunky. Upon being seated, service was decent but the pacing of the courses was terrible. Some courses came out right when I finished the previous one, and others took 20 minutes plus to come out after. Very inconsistent. The oysters didn't taste fresh. The pork chop was delicious and I really enjoyed it. Overall left more to be desired here.

Great recommendation from some frequent travelers and foodies. This restaurant has it all, great food, nice atmosphere, and reasonable prices. For a Michelin star restaurant I expected a much bigger bill. Two things stood in the way of a perfect score: heavy sauce on the pork katsu and underwhelming dessert. The service was also great as the server walked us through each dish. Overall, great food and a perfect date night out.

Originally came during Restaurant Week but realized ordering à la carte would actually be a better value -- larger portions and the ability to try more dishes. Overall, the food was good, though nothing completely blew me away. The appetizers were strong, and the bread was definitely a highlight. The entrées were solid but didn't stand out as much. Dessert ended up being my favorite course of the meal. I'm glad I tried it, though I'm not sure it's somewhere I'd rush back to.

I was there last night for restaurant week. I love the vibe, not too formal but classy. I had the beef tartare app (kubbeh). the beef was a bit interesting. not a traditional tartar- kinda smashed into the plate. but the cracker and cream were great. I opted for the gnocchi main - while it was tasty - and interesting. like 6 huge pillows. i've never had such huge gnocchi in my life. was good. kinda too much of the cheesy texture. since if also had marshmallow cream. it was very good. needed some more texture. (if you go with friends - take it to share - if you need to eat the whole thing. - opt for something else). the dessert of orange ice cream - marshmallow thingy honeycomb was great.

Food was so good. The blend of Asian and caribbean flavors was like a party for the taste buds. My friend and I enjoyed everything. To top it off service was excellent although the restaurant was packed!! I recommend getting a seat by the open kitchen.

Located inside 70 Pine St which shares a bunch of establishments so don't be confused if the GPS leads you into the building. Restaurant is very spacious and has an open concept kitchen where you can see the chefs and staff hard at work. We ordered a variety of dishes to try to cover everyone's appetite. White Bean Hummus, Puff Bread, 'Nduja($17)- Very flaky and buttery bread that was easy to pull apart from its perforated shape. Even though the hummus is a basic dish, it stood out with depth in flavor. We had to order refills on the vegetables since it was so delicious. Gruyere Fritters, Chili, Lime($18)- This was a very tricky one to apprehend because it was shaped like churros but it did not taste like them. So it was a nice surprise when I took a bite into it and expected sweet but got savory. It had a fluffy texture bit I wished the cheese was at a higher temperature to get a nice gooey consistency. Beef Kibbeh Nayeh, Lavash, Labneh($25)- Even though the beef was raw it still had a nice balance of taste and texture with the crisp lavash serving vessel. Pork Katsu, Curry Béarnaise, Fennel, Cherries($48)- Not sure if they forgot to time the fryer but the katsu tasted burnt and tough, the sauce on the other hand was very light and refreshing which helped balance the fattiness of this dish. Grilled Citrus-Marinated Chicken, Crown Shy Hot Sauce($45)- Definitely my favorite dish of the experience, not only was it extremely juicy from being brined but it was tender and flavorful. Adding the hot sauce took it to another level. Sticky Toffee Pudding for Two, Pecans, Apple Sorbet($28)- Definitely more than enough for two people. It had a very balanced sweetness which I thought was great, the apple sorbet was little tart to me but was a nice balance if eaten together. Satsuma Orange, Honey, Toasted Marshmallow($17)- A very well executed dessert that had a nice balance in sweetness between the ingredients. Overall a great welcoming experience where there are so much to try with great chefs and staff members. Visited July 2025 Food- 8/10 Cleanliness- 10/10 Staff- 10/10

While I can't comment on the wine list personally, I know they are well-known for their extensive selection. After placing our order, we were delivered the sesame pizza bianca, which is a complimentary starter bread with dinner. The bread was a nice size and light and airy with a perfect crust and a delicious, crusty sesame seed bottom. The prawns were our starter and came three to a dish. They were sizable, though since they are served with the head and tail, there isn't a ton of meat on them. That said, they were flavorful and juicy with a nice sauce and just the right amount of spice that didn't overwhelm the fish. The snowdance chicken was the star of the show! It was incredibly juicy and tender with perfectly prepared skin, so I was happy to learn they keep this on the menu year-round. It was topped with some spinach that was solid, though nothing special. We also ordered a side of mushrooms which came with a creamy sauce and fish roe intended to be mixed at the table. The roe wasn't fishy at all but added a great element of umami to the flavorful, well-textured mushrooms. Overall, the service was very professional, though I thought the pacing could have been improved as the dishes came out a bit slowly. I would also recommend ordering at least two dishes per person, as the three plates we shared between two people felt like just a touch too little food. I'm already looking forward to going back--I'd try the winter chicories salad or the veal sweetbreads next time, but I'm open to exploring everything since the quality is so high. I noticed a side dish listed on their online menu that wasn't actually offered in person, so it might be worth double-checking if you have your heart set on a specific item.

Their house sesame bread was fluffy and chewy with a good amount of sesame flavor without having too many seeds. For mains, the farfelle was very interesting and tasty! The pasta was al dente and the sauce was addicting! At first I was wondering if it would resemble a nut butter, but it was creamy with very prominent walnut flavors and interesting texture (perhaps from the blended walnut skin component?). The addition of burrata and other cheeses was perfect for a cheese-lover like me. The pork chop was flavorful, well-seasoned, and juicy. The leek and cabbage mixture soaked up all the sauce and I wish there was more! Their special hot chocolate with an espresso martini marshmallow was fire!!!! Hot chocolate was decadent, not too thick, and not too sweet. The toasted marshmallow melted quickly but definitely had coffee and alcohol flavors. The amount per serving doesn't appear a lot but appropriate considering how rich it is. The mascarpone dessert had a great balance of fluffy cream, extremely crispy phyllo, and crunchy nuts with a touch of chocolate and vanilla! For drinks, I was really curious about the bi lemongrass but they ran out. Staff recommended the semiplume, which felt like a beer, tea, and sparkling wine all at once! Loved the floral aroma and bitter tea notes. My partner's cocktails were also well executed. Staff were nice and friendly. Our cocktails were delicious, music was on point, service didn't feel rushed at all. I was feeling adventurous and asked for a boozy gin-based cocktail.. loved it! My friend really enjoyed her drink as well. At $19 per cocktail, it's not the cheapest in the area, but also not the priciest either. Would absolutely recommend Split Eights to anyone looking for craft cocktails in the area.

He is the best mixologist in NYC. He danced with lemon slices cutting through pours of clear liquids from heights. He tossed and shook, and was precise and caring. A true artist. David made our night. The only reason I would ever walk back into this place is to sit at the bar and let David mesmerize me. FOOD: Broccoli rabe was fresh, but I needed a steak knife to cut through it. It was very al dente. Not cut properly, which is to cut crosses in the stems. Salad was fresh and crisp, high quality fennel and greens. Lovely. Agnoletti was divine. Home made. Focaccia very good with subtle flavors and just the right crust. Olive oil, good. The front of house staff was lovely, two ladies, and a friendly guy. Super lovely. Treated us like friends. Also the busboys were all gentlemen. I loved them. They brushed crumbs off the table with panache. The only complaint is the waiter was robotic, and issued rule after rule. No smile. EX: It was a freezing night. We wanted to order appetizer's first, and have a chance to look at the menu. He couldn't do that. "I need the whole order." Then one of us wanted to order the pre fixe dinner. "You can't do that. You both have to order it." He was very cold, a robot. To enjoy ourselves, we had to push through the horrible treatment. Too bad for the waiter, when I asked about the special pasta, he butchered the pronunciation, giving me a soft pitch to teach him Italian. I blasted him. C'est la vie.

Started light with the Caesar salad -- crispy, chilled, and judging me silently for how fast I inhaled it. That cacio e pepe came out looking so good I almost stood up and clapped. Fresh truffles on top, giant block of cheese on the side... bro, it wasn't a dish -- it was a flex. I took one bite and immediately understood why Italians talk with their hands. Closed the night with the ricotta cheesecake -- soft, rich, and honestly one of the few things sweeter than me. Place has the vibe on lock. Decor? Classy. Environment? Smooth. Staff? Incredibly welcoming... like "you sure you don't work here?" level friendly. Perfect spot for a date or a meetup -- trust me, you'll look fancy without even trying. foodieinthebigapple2025
