We normally love the food but yesterday we went and we ordered the sangria, calamari, steak with blue cheese sauce, bread with tomato marmalade/sausage/salmon, croquettes, papas bravas, garlic mushrooms, and bread service. One of those things gave us food poisoning had to call off both of my jobs and my boyfriend had to call off his. The waiter was extremely nice but I would prefer to not feel like shit after. MY, it's been a while since I've visited Si Tapas, but glad this came across my mind again. I was craving tapas one day, and so here we are. We visited on a Sunday evening and were seated right away for a party of 2 at a table in the front room. The back room is a little more dimly lit, so we opted for a little more sunset lighting. I will say, however, that the food and service are not as great as I remember. Our server seemed a little uncertain about the menu and still new at the job. There was no designated bartender, so our cocktails were made by our server. Overall, service was a little slow and lackluster - our server (didn't catch his name) was soft-spoken and rarely checked in with us during our meal; he would just drop down our dishes one by one. We also had to remind him to bring us some bread so that we could enjoy the sauces a little more. Now, enough complaining... Onto the food! We love ordering variety, so tapas like these are perfect for us. Here's what we got: - summer cocktail with orange juice & mezcal: refreshing and delicious! - pitcher of sangria: a necessity for tapas - Gambas al ajillo (shrimp in garlic): LOOOVE the garlic sauce! And when we were done with the shrimp, of course we dipped our bread into the sauce and enjoyed it some more! This is a must-get! - Coliflor de La Mancha gratinada (Cauliflower gratin w/Manchego and almonds sauce): very creamy, a nice palate-cleansing bite between some of the heavier dishes. - Okra frita con sal de mar y curry (Fresh fried okra w/sea salt & curry): Loved these! A lil spicy, but not too hot! Crispy outer skin. Great bites. - Pulpo a la gallega (Octopus w/boiled potatoes, pimento and E.V.O.O.): These were disappointing, to be honest. We LOOOVE octopus and get it almost everywhere when we see it on the menu. Here, the octopus slices are served on top of slices of potato. The potato was warm, but the octopus were... chilled? We had never had it like this, as it's usually a warm dish at other tapas places, so we were a little taken aback. We asked our server if this was intentional, and he said that that's how the kitchen makes it. So we didn't finish these, but we would have enjoyed if it had been warm all throughout. - Almejas a la marinera (Fresh clams in wine garlic sauce): these clams were... a little fishy. Not only did they have a pungent taste, but some of the clams were closed shut, which suggests they were already dead by the time they were cooked. They just didn't taste very fresh. - Mollejas al limón (Veal sweetbreads w/capers in lemon sauce): I love sweetbreads, and this one doesn't disappoint! A little sour in taste with the capers and lemon sauce, but I think it goes really well with the strong taste of the thymus/pancreas. - Codorniz a la parrilla (Quail on the grill): Honestly, I cannot tell the difference between chicken and quail legs in taste. Obviously a lot smaller, but still.. - Chuletas de cordero a la parrilla (Baby lamb chops on the grill): My favorite dish - simply juicy and delicious! Tender and full of flavor, just the way I like 'em! And they're small enough that they're not too filling. - Vieiras gratinadas con cava (Fresh scallops in a gratin cava sauce): These were very creamy, scallops were very soft and not overcooked. - Empanadillas gallegas (Tuna and tomato empanada): crispy outside, creamy and soft interior - great texture and flavor in every bite! - Dessert: Crema Catalana (Catalan style cream brulee with white chocolate shavings): A little heavy on the white chocolate topping, which made the creme brulee too sweet for me. There was almost no caramelization - very soft top layer, but perhaps that is what is meant by Catalan style. We were unfortunately disappointed by our latest visit here - I remember the food and service being a lot better about a year and a half ago. read more

I live down the street, and walk by this unassuming little house a few times each week without noticing that walking through the front door would whisk me away on an a culinary adventure to Spain. As a large, insatiable man, I never understood the allure of having tiny, expensive dishes served to me on fancy plates. However, once I had that first cauliflower bite (I have never ordered cauliflower from a restaurant before), I knew I was working with something special here. I looked around, and my compadres had turned into famous matadores, encouraging me to try things that I had never ventured into previously. I was eating baby shark, and sipping on hangover-free-guarantee sangria (with the perfect amount of sweetness, I might add). Every bite that I was taking made me think that this had been my best dining experience since moving to the area. I loved my experience here, but I would have been lost without my culinary compass (my good friend Evan) who mapped me through this ordeal. Everything was amazing! I am a huge tapas fan and have had this bookmarked for some time now. They don't accept reservations but I called anyway to check. The gentleman on the phone was so polite and friendly. He advised that we arrive early or after 10pm for less chance of waiting for a table. What happened to this place? Use to be great food and service but this will be my last time going. To start off, service has really plummeted, maybe they can't get good help but on a very slow weekday, early evening with enough help, the servers were too busy talking to each other than to help out the few tables that were occupied. Next, food has lost it's luster. The garlic shrimp lacked any garlic and the shrimp tasted very shrimpy- yea I know they are shrimp but that is all you could taste, like the difference between awesome fish and fish that tastes fishy- well that's what the shrimp were like. Everything else, and we had 10 plates at our small table, was not seasoned well and tasted weeks old. Ugg, so disappointed as this was a go to spot but I will be eating at the many other restaurants around instead. Now I'm usually right about what I'm going to say next, in fact 85% right, I think this place will be gone within a year based on the reactions of the clientele, the service and quality of the food. I hope this is one of the few times I'm wrong but bookmark it and hopefully they will turn it around and I'll be eating my words... and maybe some better food. Some important things to note are we were charged a couple dollars extra on each tapas plate we ordered compared to the online menu prices listed, it closed earlier than listed so we felt a little rushed throughout our dinner, and lastly we got a cheese plate and we saw the menu had a ~$2 bread service to add to the cheese plate so when asked by our server if we wanted bread we said yes but instead we were brought pan con tomate and had to pay $7 for it which was not what we asked for. It was delicious so we just went along with it rather than bringing the fact we felt duped. Lastly, the waiter brought the card reader to pay the bill prior to be being able to take a proper look so when it came it tipping I looked at the bill to do some mental math and the waiter pressured me while I quickly glanced at the bill by saying "I think I did good service." when I was already planning on leaving a good tip despite the upcharging. If all this is a pattern, this definitely needs to be addressed with the waiters cause I felt uneasy about my experience despite loving the food! read more

This place was a definite surprise from start to finish. First, it is actually in an old house; this being said it is fairly small. My friend called for reservations for her birthday celebration right after Christmas and they wanted a credit card to hold the reservation and $50pp for each person that didn't show up in the reserved number. I have never heard of this policy and hopefully it was just for the holiday season because that would definitely keep potential customers away. Anyways, we went anyway without a reservation and they made space for us quickly. The menu is all tappas (Hence the name) but it was also very confusing on how it was put together. Combining multiple things to try to create a meal ended up being difficult for many of us. The food came out in clusters so you couldn't eat all of your food together. This may be from our large group though. The food, in my opinion, lacked flavor and was a bit over priced for what it was. My lamb was over cooked and the shrimp was bland. The peppers were actually very good and the warm bread was excellent actually. The drinks were also average. I really wanted to like this place and will try it again with just one or two people instead to see if that changes things. Needless to say it isn't great for large groups. When my boyfriend asked the waiter if he thinks those order would make us full and he said " it would be enough for you to pay". Had a great experience here. Had originally made reservations at a different tapas place, got stuck in terrible traffic, missed my reservation, and came here instead. It really worked out. I lived in Spain for a little while so authenticity of tapas is important to me. I ordered an assortment for me and my friends to try. We had the croquetas, gambas al ajillo, tortilla española, patatas bravas, and solomillo con salsa cabrales. The solomillo was my favorite. Cooked rare, but just perfect. The sauce was divine. The other two loved the gambas-- dipping the bread in the garlic butter sauce was a plus. My least favorite were the patatas bravas-- which was disappointing bc in Spain this is something cheap and usually hard to mess up. The potato's were a little cold and mushy and the sauce was too much. It just made the fried potatoes soft. So paying $8 for it hurt a little bit. We also got a pitcher of sangria. Very good. This was the perfect amount of food for 3 people-- the portions were actually bigger than expected. We probably could've had one less tapa. We were all so full. I will definitely revisit. I went here at around 9pm with my mother that was out of town(the place closes at 10) and the service was horrible. The waiter(about a 5'7 Mexican man) was terrible. Tried to ask him for suggestions and was as helpful as the empty chairs in the restaurant. Food was good but tapas are small eats so you're paying a lot for things that can be made by my 4 yr old son. I ordered a bread with tomato and it barely had any on top, that dish was also around $7. I really wanted to like this place but the considering on how rude the waiter was I will not be going back. I wasted $120 on about 40 min and the waiter couldn't even smile. What an adorable spot! My friend and I sat outside on a beautiful afternoon and the outdoor seating was just lovely. It's cava week so they are having some specials - ordered the house special tapa which is a fried shrimp you get a complementary glass of cava (sparkling wine). The fried shrimp was amazing, it was not overtly battered and you can taste how fresh the shrimp is. The sauce was amazing as well. We ordered the baby eel in garlic sauce and that was such an surprising dish. We honestly didn't know what to expect but it became one of my favorite! The quail was tender. Inside of the restaurant was so quaint and had a feel of a beautiful Spanish home. There's outside seating available, and we choose a table inside. We came for happy hour which is from 4-7pm, Monday-Thursday. We didn't make a reservation and were the the table there. They have filtered water available, but you pay per table. We tried the sangria pitcher and a bottle of their White House wine, both $12. The tapas available on HH are $3 each, and we had the shrimp in garlic, calamari, potatoes with chorizo, fried okra, and olives. All of the portions are small, and I would recommend only sharing between two people at the most. We enjoyed the shrimp, calamari, and fried okra the most. The potatoes with chorizo were really good, however there was only 4-5 pieces of chorizo. In addition to happy hour, we tried the combination paella, which had pork, chicken, and seafood. This was my first time trying paella, and I thought it was really good. The rice was dry and was flavorful. There were small bits of calamari in the rice, which was a pleasant surprise. For the price of $3-4 per dish on their happy hour menu it wasn't bad and I actually got full from it. I would pass on the chicken wings though. We got the combo paella and it was not as great as the ones I had in Spain and thought it was really weird they added chicken wings in it? I have a piping hot banana bread cooking in the oven and it smells delicious in my apartment, but I STILL would rather be eating that paella. Overall, this place is really quaint and delightful. It's a small house in the downtown-ish area, lit up by some Christmas-y lights. There's street parking in the area, so as long as you don't come on a super busy night, you should be fine. It's not a huge place, but there are more tables in a downstairs area. Upstairs seems pretty cramped with the bar and the bathroom and the weird tall table. They have a great wine wall. I would recommend (for a party of 2) getting the paella and one or two other tapas. I'm super excited to head back here to get that paella one more time, and try some of the other small plates. read more
