You know the restaurant in the final episode of the Sopranos? The upscale diner where Tony was killed (or maybe he wasn't)? That's the feel at Born & Raised. The Chef is Bryan Voltaggio (from Top Chef). He took diner food and made it into something extraordinary. I'm from New York. And this is my kind of food. Steak sandwich, "Adult" milkshake, and french fries - probably the best french fries I've ever had. We're careful about COVID so we ate outdoors. They had lots of heat and it was surprisingly comfortable on a cold but sunny afternoon. read more

Call it what you want... I call this place delicious. One of the best breakfasts in Frederick. Goat cheese omelette with caramelized onions, rosemary fried potatoes and dressed greens are my go to. CRAZY good. Sausage gravy is ridiculous along with the deviled eggs. Hope they eventually bring back the pork belly and red eye gravy or the muffuletta omelette. Next level breakfast for sure. read more

We were totally impressed with the quality and presentation of our dinner last night. The marinated hanger steak, served in a brown gravy with a side of Béarnaise sauce, was just exceptional. We ordered one medium rare and one medium and they were cooked perfectly. One of best I have ever had. My wife's swordfish was done equally well. Service was excellent. I highly recommend this local neighborhood restaurant. read more

FOUR STARS: This place was good really no complaints. I went to this place for brunch and got the chicken and eggs, coffee, and expresso. Chicken thigh was blah, but I dont like chicken thighs so its on me. Potatoes were excellent with the aioli sauce. Expresso was the highlight, fresh hot and real good. The setting of this place is calm, clean quite, great service, food came out still hot which is always a plus; overall just a great vibe. I would recommend this place and will return myself. read more

The menu is exactly the same as Family Meal but with less quality. I had the Bryan burger and it was dry and pretty tasteless. Our apps - all which we had previously at FM-- deviled eggs, biscuits, etc.. we're mediocre at best... Seats were very uncomfortable and tables are very tight seating, so your elbow is always digging into your partner On the good side, drinks are different and pretty good and service is great. But it's not enough for us to go back. Too bad I use to really like the casual dining and there is good/lots of parking read more

The food was amazing and great incitement to be in they where super inviting and we sat outside and the heaters made it warm and comfortable

I've been to this restaurant when it was under another name and really liked it. I was very pleased with with everything I got this time. They did not disappoint. Food was great, service was great. Would recommend and will be returning read more

I used to frequent this spot when it was called Family Meal. When I discovered Family Meal was gone, I was sad, but I was also excited to try its replacement. My husband and I dropped by on a Friday morning for brunch. We were greeted and seated quickly outside on the patio. The first thing I noticed was a dirty or shall I say dusty table. We sat and waited 10-15 minutes for someone to come wipe it down after our request was made. When the guy came over, he asked "where do you need me to wipe." Really? I couldn't believe he couldn't see how dirty the table looked. The next thing I noticed was the same dust/dirt that was on the table, was also on the pre-placed cups we were expected to drink from. As my coffee was poured, I noticed particles of hair and dust on the rim of the cup as it started to make its way into my drink. I politely asked for another cup with fresh coffee and the waiter brought me another dusty cup. I didn't complain. I just decided not to drink it. When the food arrived it looked great, but it tasted so bland and flavorless. My steak tasted brunt, even though it was clearly cooked medium, and the potatoes tasted like nothing at all. I was shocked at how dissatisfied I was after eating my meal. My husband didn't have anything bad to say about his pancakes. After all, how can you mess up pancakes? I politely asked for the coffee to be removed from our bill and my request was acknowledged, but when we received the receipt, it was not broken down by item like you would normally see at restaurants, so I was unable to tell if it was actually removed. Overall, my experience wasn't horrible, but it wasn't one I wish to experience again. I don't think I will frequent this spot in the future. read more

In town visiting family for the 4th and since the house is being renovated I had to venture out to find food. This place is deservingly highly rated so I had to pull up for brunch. Pancakes...AWESOME. Home fries...AWESOME. And you may think these are simple items but you'd be surprised how often these are not good when eating out. Not the case here at all. Everything was so delicious I didn't even get pics. It's the cutest spot too. But the service? *chef's kiss* My server was so personable. And prompt. And attentive. And when he was busy with another table, another staff member checked in on me. When a team works together the experience is enhanced. To say I was pleased with my visit is an understatement. I will indeed be back!! read more

Had the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. Fantastic fried chicken breast, tender, juicy. Very good buffalo sauce made with a mix of ranch and spicy oil. Even the pickles were exceptional. My wife had the Chicken Salad stack sandwich. It is huge and delicious. We split an order of duck fat fries. There is a lot of attention to detail in the food and restaurant in general. Highly recommend you try this place. read more

Love the casual atmosphere and extensive menu. Food is great and priced well, and the servers are all so friendly! We love it here.

We had a delicious brunch. There was a bit of a wait to be seated. Our server was good but they were understaffed (as almost everyone is right now). Still he ran around and worked hard. The chicken & waffles was delicious. The eggs were amazingly fresh. The biscuits and gravy were good but far from the best I've had. We are looking forward to going back and trying dinner. read more

Let me tell you about this spot. I came here today for brunch and the they DID NOT disappoint. The food, service and ambiance was great. If your ever visiting Fredrick like I was you definitely should stop here. Btw we had a set of 4 year old twins and the food portions were plentiful. My son had a cookies and cream milkshake that he love. All round great place. Definitely plan stop in next time I'm in Fredrick. read more

Messed up order. Bit of a disappointment. Live an hour away and was unable to eat my meal.

This place was amazing. Stopped here on our way back to DC and it did not disappoint. We sat at the bar which honestly, was the best place to sit so we could see what all the food looked like coming out. The food was delicious, if you get anything on the menu, you won't be disappointed. But the one thing that really impressed me most, was how the staff was extremely diligent and friendly. Some restaurants you come into and it seems like total chaos, but this place moved at a steady flow on sync, and it showed. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more

Good food, well prepared and presented. Prompt efficient service. Nice atmosphere in a place that used to be an auto showroom. Try it.

Always great..only complaint maybe lower the lights a little in eve!! Love the food, the people the drinks!! Excelllent !

We had a fun dinner at Showroom tonight. It happened to be their 2nd anniversary so it was extra festive. Our waiter Den was great and the wonderful chef accommodated our special request. A favorite at the table was the Bryan Burger. read more

I'm not sure what I missed as I had high hopes for Showroom but this was one of the single most disappointing Fathers Day meals I've ever treated my dad to. Everything we had was terrible. The beer was room temperature, the appetizers were subpar and the main dishes all lacked any real flavor and good cooking techniques. And $20 for a soggy chicken sandwich with fries seems a little outrageous for the location. The place was also extremely hot and our table and chairs were filthy when we sat. What an absolute waste of $188. read more

Great service and prices. Cozy and nice place with a lot of space, but still pretty crowded. Chives in the biscuits is amazing. Definitely 5 stars. read more

It was great service yummy foods, the chicken pot pie fritters off the hook. Mimosa could have been better. Atmosphere was just perfect. Great for any type group. read more

We're new to Frederick and wanted to treat ourselves and we're so glad we did! The breakfast was fantastic! My pancakes were light and fluffy and if you listened closely you could hear angels singing. The blueberry compote was a good balance of tart and sweet. My husband had the omelette with andouille sausage and onions and it really packed a kick! So good. I tried to devour his home fries, but he was not having it. Although they were extremely busy, the staff managed to keep pace and never dropped the ball. Best breakfast we've ever had. We'll be back. You should go. read more

LOVE this place. It was kind of a long trip from DC but worth it. Bryan Voltaggio (from Top Chef) has created a contemporary diner that serves upscale mid-Atlantic diner food.  Meatloaf, fried chicken, pastrami sandwiches--all made with fresh local ingredients. The Onion Soup is thick with short-rib and the Chicken Stack Sandwich was decadent: fried chicken salad, bacon, lettuce, and tomato.  We were fans of Volt and were sad to see it go. This place is so different.  And just as good. read more

Really disappointed as I was excited to check this place out and now surprised by all the positive reviews. Staff were inattentive and did nothing when 2 out of 4 people ate very little of their food and said we didn't like the food when asked about it. The waitress just said oh. Any other time this feedback was given at other restaurants the manager came out and asked what they could do to make it better and/ or offered to comp the meals that were not eaten/ enjoyed. The onion rings and milk shake were tasty but not much else. The chicken was over fried and over salted, the pickled veggies were overpowering, the fish was half breading and tasted frozen under salted and bland, the Cole slaw looked and tasted like it had been sitting out for days, the meatloaf was overworked and not tasty. I really would recommend folks go elsewhere to eat. I've had better service and food at a diner or fast food restaurant. We definitely expect more when paying more. read more

Very good atmosphere and good food. The server was attentive. Convenient and ample parking

Omg!Just have to let you know the fried chicken was so beautiful seasoned amazing crispy even the second day. Food is really yummy! I don't like kale But we order the salad and I couldn't stop eating it ..you have to try it read more

We were driving through town and found this through yelp. The food was delicious, we were able to sit outside felt like we had good distance and were COVID safe. The staff were lovely and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend and go again if we are in town. read more

Me and my pal went here on a whim. Totally blew our expectations away! Our waitress Nella was fun, helpful, and incredibly courteous. She recommended the cheesesteak, Bryan's burger, and the duck fat fries - each of which we got! Boy oh boy, was she damn right! If you don't get one of these when you go, I guess you'll have to go again! If we had to put one thumb up for how much we enjoyed it, you'd be seeing FOUR thumbs! That's the max amount of thumbs! Wow! Go to the Showroom, you won't be disappointed! read more

Went in last Friday about 7pm to meet my family. Ordered an appetizer. It took about 20 minutes to get out. When arrived, looked like things were just thrown on the plate, pimento cheese. Ordered a beer the same time. After the appetizer arrived, had to remind the server about it. She came back a few minutes later and said they were out.vout if a menu beer at the start of the weekend? A big let down... read more

I love this place. We've been here multiple times and it never disappoints. The food (brunch, lunch and dinner) is tasty. I'd say classic with a twist. The portions are large. And the service is always efficient and pleasant. I get the feeling that the staff is happy to work here. read more

Sooooo good! The menu was so varied that it was hard to choose but we had the duck fat home fries, mushroom soup, shrimp and grits and the nashville hot, along with cocktails. All were perfect! Add this place to your itinerary! read more

We loved the food, and the cocktails. The service was spot on, friendly and efficient. We will definitely go back. Frederick is a charming place to spend an afternoon. And Showroom makes it worth the drive.  Delicious food, and cocktails and they kept the feeling of Family Meal.  The Onion Soup has chunks of short rib, that together with the chilled shrimp appetizer makes a fantastic meal. The boozy milkshakes sound really good.  I'll have to try one next time.  My big complaint? They don't have Chicken Pot Pie Fritters anymore. I mean, come on. They were amazing!! read more

This place used to be Family Meal and we were pretty disappointed when it closed due to COVID and didn't reopen. Luckily they rebranded and re-opened as showroom. The food is very similar to Family meal. Everything was great, but the desserts really shone. It's impressive when a restaurant goes beyond just the regular cheesecake and brownie options. They only loose one star because service was quite slow. Overall, I'll be back and I recommend the place! read more

We're from Virginia and well south of Bryan Voltaggio's "Family Meal" restaurant in Frederick, MD, now called "Showroom." We're just now getting out and about after being confined by the COVID-19 pandemic and one of our first stops was to visit this restaurant. Before the pandemic, it was a favorite of ours for its informality and industrial chic setting. When we arrived today for our reservation," we found its interior and furnishings essentially the same but a bit worn when compared to its former incarnation--and service is definitely diminished. Food, previously excellent, was good but not up to its former standards judging by our meals today. Two stars...sort of. read more

The atmosphere at Born & Raised was very enjoyable. The environment was extremely clean and the hostess even took our temperature before being seated which I haven't experienced during covid, but thought it was a nice precautionary measure. Our waitress was extremely sweet and helpful. She knew what she was talking about and made good suggestions. We started off with the pimento cheese and corn cakes and, wow. The fries were delicious and seasoned well and our drinks, the Amare-Rita and The Keys Knees were satisfying. Everything we had tried so far was tasty and left us anticipating the rest of the meal with excitement. Like another review mentioned, I really feel bad mentioning the negatives because I know how bad restaurants are struggling right now. I'm wishing that my husband and I had read other reviews before ordering our main meals. My husband ordered the fried chicken and I ordered the salmon. The Chicken was cooked well, however it was very bland. The breading lacked flavor and salt. The hot honey helped with the flavor. The chicken was underwhelming, however, he did enjoy the biscuits. I don't know where to begin on the salmon. The meat itself was cooked well and the crispy skin on the top was a nice texture. But the flavor was completely off. The salmon seemed to be sitting in a pool of brackish water and gave off a Chesapeake bay scent. The dark brown purée left me confused and actually didn't know what it was until I looked at another review that mentioned the salmon to find out it was caper butter. The broccoli was sad and had the same, overpowering, salty/oceanic taste that the rest of the dish had. I highly suggest taking this dish off the menu until it can be tweaked. I have never been to Family Meal and have nothing to compare it to. I moved away before I was able to visit either of Bryan's restaurants. But as someone who watched and cheered for Bryan on every season of Top Chef he was on and dreamed of visiting one of his restaurant, I was left underwhelmed and disappointed. I hope that things can be adjusted and Born & Raised can be a successful restaurant. read more
