Had a great experience at T&B. Decided to stop in for an early lunch on a Saturday afternoon. They have both indoor and outdoor seating (weather permitting). We were seated inside. We noticed that some of the tables were reserved so seems like they take reservations for groups. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. As for the food, we enjoyed a variety of items. They have a traditional menu and a specials menu. We grabbed the salmon bites & wings for apps. I had the burger for my main meal which was delicious! Overall great experience. We dropped by for a drink on our anniversary cocktail crawl last night, the kitchen was already closed (but we'd just had dinner so no problemo) and the only other couple in the bar was just leaving so we had the place to ourselves. They were out of the strawberry-rhubarb for the gin fizz so I ordered a Sandia (Watermelon) Mule w/ vodka, my husband ordered the same with rum. They were both very good but IMNSHO the vodka one wins because it lets the flavor of the watermelon come through more, and if you use rum it's a dark & stormy not a mule. Nyah. The bartender was cool and seemed amused by our banter (and my extremely thoughtful analysis of why the vodka was more suited to the mule, haha). The bathroom art has to be seen. It's hilarious and irreverent. Next time we're in town we'll have to come a little earlier & when hungry to catch the kitchen open and hopefully try the gin fizz! Cutting to the issues: Ambiance is fine except for the menus. They are stained and sticky Food: the deviled eggs looked dull and grey. They were not fresh and they were presented like they were just thrown on the plate. The eggs cost $1.50 per half. Everyone is making deviled eggs, nothing was done to make them stand out. I ordered the crispy pork belly. During my wait, I saw burnt chicken nuggets and fries served to a child. I was told that the fries were dark because they are hand cut. Not sure what that had to do with the cremated chicken nuggets. I guess the thought of blanching the fries was never considered. I saw a woman having to use her knife for a soup. She was having to cut the croutons. The soup was tomato bisque. I saw a sandwich with a slice of tomato, The tomato was pale, probably coming from some big food supplier. It is August, tomatoes are at their best. Instead of looking for good local produce, kitchen has ordered flavorless, colorless tomatoes. This begs the question, was the bisque made from scratch, from a combination of fresh and canned tomatoes, or was it premade-made. As diners, we work hard for our money. I expect restaurants to work hard to earn our business. read more

The server was really nice and helped us make decisions. I ordered a lavender lemon cocktail that was delicious. My husband ordered an IPA that he liked. Visited Truth and Beauty for a late lunch. Small but mighty menu. Each item properly positioned to fulfill a hungry customer. I heard the waitress mentioned the go to's & popular items and she had me at shrimp and grits. Not an item I get to eat often at home (San Diego) and something I'd been craving lately. The shrimp and grits were delicious. A "smaller" portion but executed so well you dont need a larger portion. The restaurant is smaller with just a few tables and a small bar. We have not been here for a while and we were glad it was no wait. Service was excellent. My wife had the Shrimp and Grits and loved it. I tried the Fish and Chips and destroyed it. Stopped in on a Sunday about 1230 and was able to be seated right away. We opted for outside under an umbrella for shade, but there was open seating available inside as well. Outdoor area is small, but there's great people watching along the creek. Inside was cute & bright. We started with the deviled eggs and they were pretty good. Pleasantly pleased that the Old bay was not overpowering. We loved that you ordered how many you wanted and it wasn't a set quantity. Long wait for mains, blamed the wait on the steak but it seemed a bit excessive considering they weren't terribly busy. Even though my friend got her steak well done (who does that?) it was still super tender and flavorful. She opted for sprouts on the side instead of potatoes, especially after the server said they were known for them. They were pretty good, but could have used more sauce. I had an egg special with polenta, prosciutto , and pesto. I was an expecting a burst of flavor but was disappointed. Will it it could have been my fault because I got the egg fried hard since I don't like runny eggs. Maybe that's how the dish pops. Side salad was decent but didn't have nearly enough dressing. This spot in downtown Frederick is perfect for brunch! They open at 11am and we got there at 11:30. Only 15 minute wait and there was a huge presence of people hanging out along Carroll Creek with lots of outdoor seating to wait. Our waitress was Maureen and she was lovely. We got Blackberry Mimosas and a Bloody Mary and they were really good! The special today was Steak and Eggs with the steak being Filet Mignon ... it didn't last long that's for sure haha. I got the Downtown and my friend for the Everything Bagel sandwich and all of us gave the food an average of 7.5 out of 10. The real winner of the meal was the dessert! They have a chocolate cake and raspberry sorbet and the two together were unreal delicious. We all agreed we would come back just for those. Overall, this place is a winner! read more

First time here since this restaurant opened in this space (had been here before when it was Donners). Not much of the interior had changed, which felt nice. Very nice artwork on the walls. Our waitress was also the hostess, I think she may have been the only server in the restaurant. We had several appetizers at the table. I had the beets with an herb yogurt. It was ok, tasted like canned beets. Nothing special. My husband enjoyed the cream of crab soup. For dinner we had a huge variety. I enjoyed the fish and chips, which was a huge amount of yumminess. My husband had the chicken pot pie, and he said it was dry and not the best, he'd order something else when we go again. I'd say the food was good, not great. Outstanding restaurant and bar with food items packed with punch and delish cocktails. This is a small-midsize restaurant with a simple menu, but well thought out. When reading the menu, you can tell they pay attention to detail. I came here for brunch recently and I was impressed. They have both indoor and outdoor dining. We chose indoors. We ordered a bagel breakfast sandwich served with egg, cheese and other fixings, along with a fresh fruit cup sprinkled with powdered sugar. We also had this amazing burger with an egg on top served on a donut!!...with freshly cut, thick fries. The flavors on both items were well balanced and delicious. Cocktails were superb and the coffee was nice and hot. Service was attentive and welcoming. We have lived in Frederick for years and somehow have not eaten here - what a shame. Now we have been twice in two weeks and are planning on coming back next week! They have put together all of the right elements - great food, super service at a fair price. The servers are great, the owner and chef is attentive and the food is awesome. I have had the steak frites twice, my wife two fish dishes. All has been tasty - portions just the right size. And in the age where some places are jumping the shark on pricing its one of the better values in town. (Think entrees in the low $20's rather than the upper 20's) Location is great - the inside seating OK, prefer outside but it was HOT our second visit. This is my sister and my first time here. We wanted a lite lunch and few items to share. This was the perfect place for that. We didn't love everything but definitely left satisfied. It was a unusually warm December day so we opted for outside seating. Only complaint is that the tables outside were very very small so not a great setup when you want to share dishes. The seared scallops were absolutely amazing. The scallops and ginger sauce were a perfect pairing. The deviled eggs were delicious. Fried Pork Belly dish- we loved the pork belly but not together with the corn/cheese. Separately they were good but not together. The grilled ceasar was delightful. Good dressing. Solid dish. My experience at Truth and Beauty was nothing but sub-par. The food was fine, and the service was mediocre. I only say mediocre on the service because there was a larger party of 8, and we didn't get our drinks or our food order in for over 20 minutes until after being seated. The only excellent thing about my visit today was the bacon pickled deviled eggs and $5 mimosa. My "cowboy killer" was to include breakfast tots, white cheddar, bacon, over easy egg, jalepenos, and chipotle sauce. It was missing the white cheddar and bacon. It definitely had the breakfast tots but it overwhelmed the dish that it became a little disappointing. It also had lettuce and tomatoes on the bottom, which was fine but it just felt like I was eating a tater tot salad at the end of the day. The ambiance by the creek was nice today but like I said, the food and service was subpar. Maybe it was just an off day, but I would have to give this place another chance another day. read more

Our first -- but not last -- visit to Truth and Beauty. We don't make it to DTF very often, but how we've missed this gem so far is a mystery. The food was good: hearty where it needed to be and light and refreshing where that was the right call. The drinks were tasty and packed a wallop. Food was just average. I ordered the breakfast BLT on gluten free bread and it came with homecut fries. It was fine, but nothing special, definitely not worth the $15. My husband ordered the Cowboy Killer. It's literally 1 egg on top of tater tots with a spoon of topping. It came out ice cold. He sent it back. A new order came out about 4 mins later. The server seemed annoyed when he asked for a remake. But you could tell the tots were cooked the second time. Sounded like the table next to us was having a similar issue. I came here for my birthday lunch with my family and sister. We ordered fish and chips which were out of this world. Fish was crispy, tasty and fresh . I usually have a hard time with the smell of the fish but there fish didn't have any smell at all and we enjoyed it. Fries reminded me of my childhood when my mom made me all from scratch homemade fries . It was actually one of my lunch highlight. We also ordered black bean burger which I didn't like it because the patty was very thin and it was crumbling making it hard to eat. We also had fries with bacon and came with a fried egg on top of it (sorry, forgot the name) which was really good. My husband and I love this little gem on Carroll Creek. The food is always fresh and the menu is revolving. Doug and Heather and the staff are always pleasant, accommodating, and provide excellent service. They have a fun menu and a nice wine list. We love that the menu changes frequently while still keeping things consistently delicious. I truly have never left feeling like I had an average meal. It's honestly always delicious, unique and fun. I moved back to the DC area a few months ago and this restaurant had the best tasting food I've experienced thus far. Everything we had was amazing!!! We tried the deviled eggs, scallops with basil icecream (oh my goodness this was tasty!!!), beats, burger, rainbow trout, salmon bites and the chocolate cake was heavenly! Meh. It was just okay. The pork belly needs to come OFF the menu. It's just fried bacon chunks that are dry and flavorless. The fish and chips were great but service was slow (blame it on the pandemic). Nice people working there, and the chef came to check on us. I was caught off guard and wish I had told him the truth when he asked about the pork belly. I just said everything was good. We were really looking forward to trying this place after seeing the menu. The first time we tried to go they were closed, even though the hours on the door said they should be open - no note or anything. We decided to give it another shot when we were walking by this weekend. The outdoor seating was nice, but unfortunately there were a lot of let downs. The beers came in cans, which isn't listed on the menu and is kind of dissapointing given the prices. Some are 12oz and some 16oz but that's also not on the menu, so you don't really know what you're getting. My wife and I got an entree and a salad to share. When the waitress brought out the food, she said it was a side salad. Since it was pretty small, we asked our waiter and he said that was the full salad and it just doesn't come with much. It also didn't have the toppings listed on the menu, but he said he's not surprised cause they are always changing things. Given that it wasn't really what we ordered and the portion was tiny, we weren't too happy. The salmon in the entree was also overcooked and pretty chewy. The portion was again pretty small. We could tell it was not fresh. I will say though, the Thai chili Brussels sprouts were amazing. However, given the rest of the experience, we probably wouldn't go back since there are tons of great options in Frederick. I hope this was a one-off experience because it seems to have a lot of potential. read more

Went to Funky Fridays Drag Show here. It was absolutely amazing! The food was excellent and quick for how packed it was. And the drink service was great too! The drinks were strong and uniquely crafted. The queens were excellent performers and I can't wait for the next show! This was awesome! Also got a chance to meet the owner and the lead bartender! Five of us had dinner on Saturday and we couldn't have been more pleased. The menu was great and the food was delicious. It very upscale but at a reasonable price. The staff was genuinely friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our party. Everyone loved their meals and was impressed with the service. This gem is right off Market Street and right on Carroll Creek. Situated across from Alive at Five events, it's a great place to stop into before, during, or after. So I had heard of this place before, but I assumed it was a salon or something based on the name. Then I actually was walking Carroll Creek, saw it, and was like oh I guess it's a restaurant. Glad I stopped in because wow the food was amazing. I had the hanger steak that was cooked perfect medium rare as requested. I also got the meatballs and also the scallops as apps and the flavor was dead on perfect and the scallops were super tender with a good crust. So many places have gone in and out of that spot over the years and I hope this place does great because their food and service made it totally worth it. read more
