Kimchi butter for the win! It was my first time ever to try Shootz and I am now a big fan of Kimchi butter. This spot is known as the "original home of kimchi butter" and after you try at least one of their items with it, you will know why it is so amazing. I got to try several different dishes here and I loved each one! I first tried their Mixed Plate. You can choose the Mixed Plate to be regular or spicy. I chose mine as the regular version. It comes with kimchi butter katsu chicken and kimchi butter katsu shrimp, two scoops of steamed rice and one scoop of Mac salad. The kimchi butter katsu chicken was my favorite. The katsu chicken was perfectly crisp outside and juicy inside. Both the chicken and shrimp were smothered in the famous kimchi butter, which made the mains so savory and rich. I also really loved the Mac salad. It was so creamy and comforting. Equal in deliciousness was the Hot Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken Sandwich. The same tasty and crispy katsu chicken was topped with Mac salad, creamy Kimchi aioli and brûlée brown sugar and placed in between two Hawaiian buns. So ono! This is now on the list of some of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. I also tried their Spam Brûlée Musubi. This is a spam musubi drizzled with kimchi aioli and brûlée brown sugar. It was umami packed and seriously addicting. Alongside all the savory food, I got a refreshing Strawberry Pineapple Lemonade. It was the perfect pair to all the delicious food. Last but not least, I had to try their ube beignets. I love both ube and beignets and so this dessert was a true dream come true. It was so airy, pillowy and sweet. Oh Shootz! I am a fan! This spot is amazing. One thing to note is that this spot is located at the Uptown Commons in Long Beach. The seating is all located outside so all the food is takeout. Also one other thing to note is parking can be a bit tough. It's totally worth a visit though.

Shootz was the 3rd stop of my friend's food crawl adventure in Long Beach. Such a unique twist on traditional Hawaiian food that you may be used to, but not lacking in any flavor whatsoever. Shootz was a little hard to find even though the corner sign on Atlantic Ave and E Artesia Blvd displays it's there. The restaurant houses itself in the steel shipping containers, similar to SteelCraft. It's one of two food places, the other one being a hot chicken place. You'll know you're in the right spot when you see the Wendy's outside too. The parking lot shares with Chase Bank and Starbucks, so finding a spot can be difficult. While the kitchen and space to order isn't large there is plenty of shared-covered seating between Shootz and the chicken restaurant. Their menu is simple, their signature Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken, Shrimp, Chicken sandwich, and their Brulee Spam Musubi. They have plate options but we opted for one of the 3 family packs for 6 of us. This was massive, and while it says it feeds up to 4, it was more than enough for 6 with some even left over. Buttery slightly spicy, and every bit of savory this was amazing. Mac Salad was pretty standard, the brulee musubi was ok too (I'm a bit picky about spam musubi). Food was delicious. We also order this on a different occasion for a picnic and everyone loved it. The one downside of it was that the staff would seem to disappear from time to time with literally no one behind the counter or in the kitchen (There is a clear window you can see through from where you order). Because the fans plus music were loud you kind of have to shout which I hate doing, I don't want to sound rude. Really good twist on Hawaiian food.

I ordered the kimchi butter katsu chicken. I opted for the spicy version and in my opinion it was pretty spicy but still delicious! I may get the regular next time since there's no spice level to choose from. The macaroni salad was refreshing as well. It's located in a strange little steelcraft like area behind Wendy's. I actually didn't see it from the parking lot so I left the parking only to see the sign from the street side so I went back in to park. My order was ready on time and nice and hot. Server was very friendly and efficient as well.

do not order take out through their app your order will never get to you and they will not pick up the phone to help you, my order says completed and it still has not gotten here and the dasher isnt given me an eta and he/she is not answering the phone he keeps saying tge order got picked up and then saying he/she is waiting for it.

Very good meal here! I got the spicy chicken and shrimp, and it was amazing. It comes with rice and mac salad also. It's a nice area they share with the main chicken hot chicken restaurant and other places i saw inside. They have a nice sitting area outside. This place is just pick up orders so no inside seating in the actual restaurant. Customer service was good. Also got the strawberry pineapple lemonade which was refreshing. It's worth a Hoot to eat at Shootz! Shootz located in Long Beach is a hidden Hawaiian gem for your taste buds. You can't see it from the street, so park and walk into the open-air courtyard with lunch tables, and you'll instantly feel the vibe. I ordered the Kimchi Butter Chicken Sandwich with macaroni salad and a 2pc of musubi. If you like spice, go for the spicy version because it will be a perfect balance with the mac salad. No graceful way to eat it, but honestly, that just proves how good it is. If sandwiches aren't your thing, you can also go for a plate: kimchi butter chicken, shrimp, or a half-and-half mix, all served with rice and macaroni salad. I'm definitely coming back for the kimchi butter shrimp plate, it looked and smelled incredible. For drinks, I chose the Mint Peach Limeade, which was refreshing and bright. The cashier even offered me samples of all three flavors before I decided (exceptional service.) Shootz is cashless, so bring your card. My food was ready quickly, and the manager, David, made the experience even better. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely positive. Good music, hot food, and amazing vibes make this spot stand out. I'll absolutely be back with my son who's a fried chicken sandwich fan. I know for a fact he's going to love this place. Shootz does it right, and it's worth every bite.

Had Shootz today for the first time and I must say it is one of the best things I've eaten in a while. Located in a small food hall made of shipping containers which was very cool. Got a variety of things off their menu. The Kimchi Butter Chicken Katsu was soooo good; we got the spicy version which was amazing. The chicken was so juicy and crispy with just the right amount of spice. Served on a bed of rice that absorbs all of the sauce and juice from the chicken, paired with Hawaiian Mac Salad which is something that I absolutely love. We also got the Kimchi Butter Chicken Sando and Spam Brûlée Musubi. The sandwich was delicious, not your typical hot chicken sandwich, it was very juicy and spicy and topped with Hawaiian mac salad instead of slaw which cooled down the spice of the sandwich. It is basically the plate but in sando form...amazing. The Musubi was also very good, it's topped with a creamy kimchi aioli and brûlée brown sugar; the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The strawberry pineapple lemonade was very refreshing as well. If you're anywhere near the Long Beach area this is definitely a must try!!! 100/10

Exceeds expectations every single time!! This is probably one of my top 3 places to eat. I got it delivered and food was hot and service was quick. And I get the same meal every time mixed plate (kimchi butter katsu and shrimp) and 2 pc spam musubi. I mix up the drink every now and again. The mango tea lemonade is so good and refreshing. The mixed plate is really good , hearty. Well seasoned , good portion. Spam musubi has this brûlée mayo on top add a nice flavor

Food always hits the spot! Love getting the family trays as I feel they are worth it for the amount you get. I will say though that the ube beignets were a bit underwhelming as they were tiny and only contained 2 pieces for $6.99. If you compare that to Disneyland beignets, you would get more pieces that are bigger in size for that price. I recommend ordering ahead on their app so that it'll be ready when you arrive. Also you do get points for having an account on their app.

I have yet to have a bad experience here. This trip was more for a quick snack as we ordered the shrimp a la carte, and two sets of the spam brulee musubi. The musubi was good, seaweed was soft and not stale nor soggy despite the 40 minute trip home, but I am not the biggest fan of its sweetness. I do come here more for the shrimp as it's my absolute favorite. I tried it spicy this time and it is just perfect for my spice tolerance, full of flavor, and amazingly crispy. We also tried a side of the kimchi aioli this time and it was so creamy and added a nice change of flavor to dip the shrimp in (although the shrimp is good enough on its own anyway)

First time I had shootz was at the rodeo in Stanton. When I found out there was one in LB I was stoked. My family loves their kimchi butter chicken and shrimp. My daughter and I go for the non spicy, while my husband opts for the spicy version. The chicken and shrimp have a nice crisp to it. If you have leftovers it reheats nicely in an air fryer. I'm not really a fan of their macaroni salad. I just prefer it from other restaurants. We've never had any issues with our orders. I'm already looking forward to ordering it again.

As we approached the register, we were greeted by a delightful gentleman! I was sold just by his greeting. Then I asked a few questions about the musubi options and he explained. Ordered both options and then he offered us a cup to drink their well filtered water. Food was hands down exceptional! The rice was so soft, seaweed wrappers were crunchy and the protein/shrimp nice and warm. Oh! And the sauce in both items was sweet, tasty and perfect! Ambiance is quaint; order your food and eat outside. There is a small courtyard in the middle which is surrounded by other restaurants, so, you have food options. Loved everything about my experience at Shootz, if you would like a beer with your meal, there is a little bar only feet away from here. Returning for other meal options! read more

Shootz is located in a cute food court area with 3 other eateries and a central covered courtyard. This Hawaiian style menu is limited. Shrimp or chicken katsu over rice, in a sandwich or in a musubi. They can be ordered spicy or regular. They also have a different Mac Salad version with Tuna and their own tropical juice tea blends. You can order ahead, they have an app, or at the counter. I placed my order at the counter and they text when it's ready. Service was friendly and food was prepared quickly. I got the regular Mix Plate so I could try both chicken and shrimp and a side of Mac salad. The shrimp were big with a crispy outer layer crunch. The chicken katsu was ok. The sauce was pretty good. I liked the Mac salad with the Tuna. I think overall the food was good but expensive for portion you get. I would have preferred a little more rice and maybe a little less salty on seasoning. read more

(Rewriting to correct a typo and inaccuracy): I hate spam email. BUT I LOVE SPAM BRULEE MUSUBI! So do I like spam? No, I'm not going to answer that question in this review, but I will answer the question of "Do I recommend Shootz?" with a resounding YES! The Long Beach Shootz is located at Uptown Commons on the northeast corner of Atlantic and Artesia. If you're not sure what Uptown Commons is, think SteelCraft, but on a smaller scale; there were literally just three restaurants inside. Shootz is one such restaurant, and Main Chick Hot Chicken is another. I actually went to the latter first to get a chicken sandwich, but since I was getting hangry, I also wanted to try either Shootz or the third restaurant, La Super Birria^. While waiting for my order at Main Chick, I stepped inside Shootz, and Brandon was there to greet me. He was ready to take my order, but I told him I was waiting for my order at Main Chick. However, I saw on their menu they offer both Spam Brulee Musubi and the Honey Coconut Shrimp Musubi. I hadn't had musubi before, so I used this opportunity to ask Brandon to describe the two. With the help of some posters on the opposite side of the order counter, he described them well enough that I was interested in trying one of the musubis. But I had to eat my chicken sandwich first! While enjoying my chicken sandwich, I was thinking about the musubis as well as a sign in the far corner that advertised Musubi Mondays where they offer both of their musubis for $3 each. On the menu, the Honey Coconut Shrimp was actually a little more expensive than the Spam Brulee. I also remembered Brandon mentioning that the honey coconut shrimp was actually a shrimp tempura, and I don't believe I like tempura, so it was a pretty easy decision for me: 2 Spam Brulee Musubi. Musubis are sold in ones and twos where the price of two is less than double the price of one. After finishing my sandwich, my hands were greasy, and I didn't have any napkins on me. I returned to Shootz where a couple were getting ready to place their order. After they placed their order, I went up to Brandon again and asked for napkins to clean my hands. I hope that's not considered bad form, but I really needed to clean my hands! He was happy enough to give me not one, but two napkins. He must have really wanted my hands to be clean! haha Anyways, I told him I was sold on the Spam Brulee, thinking that if I like creme brulee, I might like Spam Brulee too! Either my logic was reasonable or way out of whack, but I'm happy to report that it was the former! At least for this visit. Brandon then asked me for my name as well as my phone number so he could text me when my order was ready. It really took only 5 minutes before I got the text, and Brandon handed me my order in a small plastic bag while wishing me a good evening with a smile on his face. I thought about taking the musubi back home to eat, but I decided to eat at the picnic tables in the middle of Uptown Commons. I took out the small plastic container that held not two, but four pieces of musubi! I was expecting two, but got four! A pleasant surprise considering two pieces would have been too little for the price point, but four? Not unreasonable if you ask me. Each musubi was like an oversized piece of sushi. Maybe two regular pieces on top of one another, but the top side has green onions as well as some sauce (Japanese Mayo?) that really makes this musubi a must try! One bite, and my eyes lit up! It tasted so good that I liked it better than the hot chicken sandwich I had minutes earlier! Everything tasted so fresh, and did I mention how good the Japanese Mayo was? I can see my female Yelp friends saying, "Chef's Kiss!" if they were to write a review of this spot. Brandon's demeanor was incredibly superb! Seriously, give that man a raise! Or a promotion! Each year, Yelp offers a set of awards called the Servies, which honor the hard-working front of house staff who don't nearly get as much recognition as they deserve, sometimes even having to deal with angry customers who get upset at even the smallest things. I know my interaction with Brandon was rather fleeting and brief, but if the Servies weren't limited to just table service restaurants, he would definitely earn a nomination from me. Shootz does have a rewards program, but spending $100 for a $5 reward wasn't enough of an incentive for me to sign up. After working a day I don't normally work and going on a rather long shopping trip afterwards, I was honestly expecting to just nap the weekend away. Instead, after my visit to Shootz, I actually had enough energy to avoid napping the next day! If MrBeast says, "To Sheetz! And get a banana!" I'll say, "To Shootz! The Chicken Sando is worth the drive, but the Musubis are a whole-nother vibe. Its Hawaiian style food. What sets it apart from other hot sandos was the flavors and macaroni salad stuffed inside OMGee. Place is tucked inside a small Food court style in the corner off the freeway. I saw a post about this food on Instagram and decided to make the trek from the Valley. Completely worth it!! The place is cute and has plenty of parking. I bought the mixed plate and the spam musubi, as well as a mango lemonade and strawberry pineapple lemonade. All of it was delicious! Cozy Hawaiian-inspired comfort food in Uptown Commons shopping center. Small menu with chicken Katsura chicken sando, spam musubi, and loco moco. Their claim to fame is their kimchi butter which they put on all their proteins. If you like simple flavorful food and not afraid to get your hands dirty, this place may be for you. The katsu is fantastic, but don't sleep on the shrimp. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area. read more

Great food. Love the kimchi butter and the crispiness of the chicken and shrimp. Musubi and the aloe are bomb. Best part is the service, I tried to order online and the asap order pickup somehow placed the order in the next day. I called and the staff and manager were able to adjust and get my order made that evening. Above and beyond the normal operating procedures and I that speaks a lot for customer value. read more

This week is Long Beach Black Restaurant Week January 21-28, 2024. I went to https://blackrestaurantweeklb.com/ Shootz is listed so I gave them a try for dinner. I ordered online and my table was ready when I arrived. The restaurant entrance is from the street and it was difficult to locate navigate where to enter from the parking lot. Uptown Commons appears to be a collection of train box cars turned restaurant. About 4 businesses with a shared dining area. The area is trendy and can seat quite a few people. The cashier was blaze and basically just handed me my food, no more no less. There were two people in line in front of me and ordering for them did not take long. I ordered a Mix plate: Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken & Kimchi Butter Shrimp, Rice and Macaroni Salad. The shrimp was lightly battered and deep fried and the chicken was crispy and juicy. Their signature kimchi butter topped both and both remained crispy. The steamed rice was yummy, with the kimchi butter drippings and furikake on top. I had to look up the definition. LOL). Macaroni salad was made with tuna and boiled egg. Everything was delicious. I suggest you give them a try. PS I believe one of the owners is Black. I couldn't locate a bio. read more

We happened on this place after going to another place where we couldn't find parking. Luckily this is near a Chase with a parking lot. It's located next to Wendy's and is in a communal space- There's a taco, hot chicken, and used to be ramen shop near it. The cashier was really patient as we decided what we should order and gave us samples of the drinks...which were way too sweet for us lol. My husband ordered the Hot Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken Sandwich and I got the Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken Plate, both were combos - one with Brulee and one with coconut shrimp musubi's. Instead of a sandwich, he got a plate. The Brulee musubi's were my favorite out of the two. The rice was fresh and bouncy, and the spam had a nice layer of sweetness to it. It wasn't too salty, which I enjoyed. The shrimp one was too doughy and it didn't taste like they had just fried it. The white coconut sauce on it didn't add much flavor to the overall dish. As for the katsu, that was pretty good. Not too sweet, crispy, warm, and whatever their brulee sauce is is really good with with meat and rice. I thought the spicy katsu was a little too spicy for me, but my husband didn't think there was any spice lol. Experiment with that one. We agreed that this katsu is way better than anything around where we live. Our only complaint is how thin each strip was for being chicken instead of pork. Seating is in an open area at the center of all the eateries I mentioned above and next to a pretty busy intersection. There's loud music, and it looks like there's additional lighting and heaters surrounding the tables. read more

Omg my new favorite I live in dt Long Beach I drove 15 min to check it out. So worth it. Portions on point flavor is all in. Best Asian Hawaiian food o have had in a minute. We went to go sit in the car. The bathroom also had an Out of Order Sign on it and we were told by the person at the register that it was broken but then were let in by another employee. Lived around the corner from here for years and I never thought to stop by until today! Vibes here are chill with plenty of seating and parking. There's a bodyguard in the area too which is a bit sketch, but we ball. The are quick, efficient and get you what you need! The food here is BOMB! Me and the hubby have been to the Rodeo 309 location and this was our first time to the Long Beach location. This location is apt smaller, Its located in the Uptown Commons. There's outside seating kind of enclosed but you can still hear traffic nearby. It's a pretty busy street and right off the 710 and 91 fwy interchange. We only had one person in front of us and ordered within a couple minutes. I ordered Kimchi butter shrimp plate comes with Mac and white rice. The hubby Stephen ordered Kimchi chicken sandwich and hot chicken masubi. The Fountain drink station didn't work at first and it took a few minutes until our cashier came back to plug it in but once it was plugged in it worked. For a Saturday I would have liked more staff available but maybe someone was on break?? The lady that took our order also was helping in the back with orders. Our order took almost 20 minutes and the Cost with tip was $39. Overall the food was good but It just felt heavy in my stomach later on. Maybe it was the butter?? This place is my go-to spot. If you get the 2 sandwich 2 musubi combo, it comes out to ~$12 per person after tax, which is a great deal nowadays considering thats about the price of a McDonald's meal. But Shootz has hands down the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. I can't get enough, and everybody I've recommended this place to has become a convert to the Shootz religion. Mac salad on the chicken sandwich is so good! Not the fault of the restaurant, but I had a bad experience where one person (clearly on drugs) ended up harassing me and my friends while we were trying to eat. After about 5 mins Shootz staff intervened and apologized. The eating space outdoors is public and shared with other restaurants, but it would've been nice if they had stepped in earlier or compensated us in some way. A couple things to know before you go: parking isn't great, and the restaurant gets busy. With how much delicious curry and sauce you get, I found myself wishing there was just a little more rice to soak everything up. I also noticed that the green beans in the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant are very al dente. Personally, I'd prefer if they were blanched just a bit so they were slightly more tender. If the goal is to add texture, I'd almost rather see crunch come from something like cashews instead--but that's just my preference. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice and another dessert with sweet milk dumplings and red beans. Both were fantastic and a great way to end the meal. Vibes of the restaurant are great. It's a small venue, but they work quickly, and a staff was very welcoming. Overall, Chiang Rai continues to be my favorite Thai spot in Southern California. If it's your first visit, the Khao Soi with sliced rib-eye is absolutely the dish I'd tell you to order.

I ordered medium spice, which turned out to be "medium if you breathe fire for fun." The papaya was also a little more raw than I personally like. The tom kha soup was decent, but the real MVP was the drunken noodles with beef. Those noodles were absolutely swimming in savory goodness and perfectly soft. I would've happily ordered a second plate and called it "dessert." Overall, I'd definitely come back--mostly because those drunken noodles are already living rent-free in my head.
