The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

It's a popular spot located in Markham where tons of people enjoy coming here for dim sum and for dinner. Once we were seated, we got the ordering sheet where you can check off all the items you want to order. We ordered a bunch of items: Deep Fried Octopus Tentacles, Deep Fried Shrimp Ball with Almond, Salt and Pepper Fish, Baiyun Phoenix Claws, E-Fu Noodles and the Ginger Scallion Beef Tripe. Most of the items were very well made. Not too salty and quite flavourful. You can taste MSG but it wouldn't be dim sum if you didn't taste it. Special mentions go to the Deep Fried Shrimp Ball with Almond because I love how it is coated with Almond Slices and it was not too oily. I also really liked the Deep Fried Octopus Tentacles since it was not battered like crazy and I loved the Salt and Pepper Fish. The E-Fu Noodles were a bit bland, but it might have been because everything else had more flavour to it. We originally ordered their duck, but since we came later in the day, it was sold out. I would recommend getting it when you visit. The customer service was not too bad. They had multiple servers walking around but you have to ask specific ones if you wanted to have more hot water for your tea or wanted to add an order. Standard customer service in a Chinese restaurant. I like the look of the restaurant since it is more of a banquet hall type with a bunch of tanks with fresh fish and assorted seafood. Good spot for big groups and for a family gathering.

It's missing the juice thot accumulates inside Pork and veggie dumpling; average. No big deal Siu Mai: also massive. Loosely put together so it falls apart which is annoying. Tastes poor Beef tendon : huge pieces that are intact. Excellent Octopus in curry sauce : exactly the way it should be. Plump and good flavour. Sticky rice with chicken in lotus leaves: small portion. I don't like chicken only versions Shrimp and pork spring rolls: these suck Pan fried turnip cake: huge but way too much filler. Didn't taste like turnip and more like filler. Deep fried seaweed roll with fish and shrimp: delicious cuz it's fried. Tastes like the fish portion of the lobster claws you can get at dinner. Pan fried pork and chive dumplings: mediocre Bbq pork rice roll: above average. But not spectacular Bbq pork rice: huge portion and a great value. Didn't taste like the dinner one I had before which I considered among the best in the city. Service was ok but they were too aggressive trying to clear the tables and giving me the bill. They kept getting in the way as I tried to pack my leftovers. Overall the know what people look for and push towards it (size) but they do lose on flavour execution as some things are so bad it's upsetting (turnip cake, Siu Mai, spring roll)

We ordered a set menu that included soup, lobster and also added a few additional dishes to share family style. The service was friendly but they were busy, and we were seated near an air vent so it was also quite chilly. The portions were reasonable and the taste was pretty decent and average. The fish was quite nice and the lobster was cooked well. The efu noodles was probably the least fav dish but it was okay. The oyster clay pot was quite good too, not too salty and just the right seasoning.

I recommend trying to get here before or after the lunch rush, because this line gets LONG, so much so that they have a dedicated line on weekends for their boxed rice specials. The BBQ is worth it though! Recently, we decided to visit for yum cha because, well, that's what they actually sell haha. It's best to arrive before 10:30am on weekends for reduced wait times. We ordered our usual: har gow, siu mai, cheung fun, turnip cake, sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, and steamed BBQ pork bao. We also got some of their more unique items like their recommended BBQ pork buns (they look like mini pineapple buns), deep fried milk curd, and deep fried shrimp salad rolls. Overall, I found that their deep fried items and BBQ pork buns were pretty good, but their siu mai and cheung fun weren't up to par. Although this spot isn't a top pick for dim sum for me, I'd still keep coming back for their Chinese BBQ and for the convenience of parking & location.

Since this Chef 88 is opened until 1am, I think this place will get busier as the night progresses. We weren't super hungry as well ate something for tea time. So we ordered Maggi Lobster (~3lbs) for $34/lb, and stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). The lobster was cooked perfectly, with the Maggi sauce not being too salty. They definitely gave us all the pieces of the 3lbs lobster. The gai lan had a bitter aftertaste, which is common for this vegetable. I wished they had a way to get rid of that. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. What we were most impressive was with the service. The waiters were very attentive, changing our plates twice during our 1ish hour meal. The also gave us wet wipes and more napkins without us requesting it. They even offered us additional soup, which we declined as we were quite full.

Bathroom so clean, you can eat off it (at lease when we got there early). Tea service was good, they kept it full often. Ordered dimsum only. All were good-great. Most interesting was the dumplings with the bottom crust that looked like crepes. All the dishes were on the high side for the area. Our bill came to 100 CAD for just dimsum for 2. We saw others order fried rice and noodles dishes. They were massive, and we understood why they were pricy. Not a place we'd come regularly, but good for a splurge/ special occasion meal. The karaoke music and vid were too loud, and the waiter lowered it at our request.

A good premium version for what is the most important dim sum dish. Siu Mai : medium sized and average. They used to be way bigger. Chicken feet: good portion and whole prices. Nowadays, most Chinese dim sum restaurants will cut these in half and serve you when I announced it only be 2 to 3 pieces in total. This dish had six full chicken feet if not more. Good value. Shanghai soup dumplings: mediocre. I will not get these again. Pan fried turnip cake: nice and thick and delicious. You could definitely tell that there's actual turnip in there. I've noticed that many dim sum restaurants have dramatically reduced the amount of turnip inside of these because the turnip is getting more expensive. This place did not. Chiu Chou dumplings: these were solid. I would get these again. Beef balls with bean curd skin: these tasted decent and I think the quality is there. However they are quite small. Pang fried chives dumplings: two oily and a taste wasn't there. I won't order these again. Feels like this Restaurant change ownership as well as all the chefs. Looking at the dinner menu there's a lot of hot pot and surprisingly karaoke options as well. It looks like they have changed to cater towards chinese rich kids. Just like your typical Chinese banquet style restaurant. We ordered their BBQ pork pineapple bun, pork ribs, pig feet, siu mai, chiu chow dumplings, chicken feet, octopus tentacles and their rice noodles. Everything tasted pretty good besides their rice noodles. I thought the skin was just too thick and it came warm. The octopus tentacles was crispy and delicious but it was $13.88 which I thought is quite expensive for the amount you get. My favorites were definitely the siu mai and the pork ribs. The siu mai's were so massive. I don't think I've ever seen them that big lol. They were also very juicy and deliciously filled with shrimp pieces inside and a good amount of fish roe on top. The pork ribs were very tender and flavorful. We would definitely come back. I saw reviews of their Tofu pudding and mango cream crepe which I am very interested to try next time. The food came out quickly, which was a nice plus, but it's worth noting that they don't offer any weekend dim sum specials. The tea was pretty weak and lacked flavour, especially considering it's $2.50 per person, which is more expensive than many nearby dim sum restaurants. We ordered 3 dishes. One of the more unique dishes we tried was the deep-fried pumpkin and sweet potato. It seemed like an uncommon order because several staff members came over to look at it as it was served. The portion was huge for a dim sum dish, with thick slices of pumpkin and sweet potato. Unfortunately, the batter was also thick, which made the dish feel a bit heavy. The fried glutinous dumpling was really good. The wrapper wasn't overly thick, and the filling-to-dough ratio was well balanced. The beef balls were enjoyable, but nothing to particularly write about. Overall, the food was pretty good, and the restaurant was bright and clean, but the value wasn't there. With no weekend specials and the extra tea charge, our bill came to about $30 for just three dishes between the two of us. At most other dim sum spots, that same amount usually gets us a much larger meal. As it got closer to noon, the restaurant started filling up quickly, so it seems like they're more popular for their lunch menu than for dim sum. I probably wouldn't come back for dim sum since there are other places nearby with comparable food at much better prices, but I'd still be open to returning to try their lunch menu!

Nicely cooked duck, crispy skin, very thin wraps. It comes with onions and cantaloupe. Cantaloupe was a first for me and I didn't like it. Lobster was cooked with garlic and green onions. Delicious. However they only gave us the pieces with a lot of meat and the lesser meat pieces were nowhere to be found. Didn't like that as we would still want to eat it.
